Thanks for your suggestions re hospital food. My experience has been that they gave me a low fat/high carb diet whether I wanted it or not, but I guess that was when I was in unexpectedly, not for a planned visit.

Oh I also ask for real mayo and real butter, otherwise you will get margaine or maybe even light mayo.

Great Plan Maw! 150 carb grams a day? YIKES! That has to be gross. When I think back of all the food I ate without paying attention to carbs . . . shudder. I'm content between 25 - 40 net grams a day. I eat a lot of veggies, fish, chicken, cheese & eggs.

Wow. That's what I get for posting late in the day. Too many interesting comments and not enough time to get to all of them! How about I just post a lot of emotes and you guys can figure out which one relates to which person!

Work is killing me, and the rest of the next two weeks will probably be more of the same, so I might not be popping in as regularly as usual.

As I was going to St. Ives,
I met a man with seven wives,
Each wife had seven sacks,
Each sack had seven cats,
Each cat had seven kits:
Kits, cats, sacks, and wives,
How many were there going to St. Ives?

Maw - that's good thinking. You're ahead of the game on the hospital eating plan.

Faith - good advice and tips. These are things we all can remember when faced with a hospital stay.

Maybe the doctors and hospitals are getting used to the ever increasing numbers of lowcarbers. I know I am notified everytime someone joins our team, and we are getting more and more team members. We are going viral. (Is that how they say it on the Internet?) emoticon

Don't let them give you a diavetic diet. You will get lots of fruit and bread and cereal etc. I don't know about all the hospital but lots of them now let you choose your own foods from the menu and will even send a dietician in to see you. You do need a "Regular" diet ordered by the doctor. Then just tell them what you want. I told them no bread with my meals. I chose eggs for breakfast and I asked for at least 3. I always ordered salad, veggies and meat whatever it was. They tend to be very accomodating these days. Because the customer satisfaction is important to them. So have the MD order a regular diet and tell them you want to talk with someone there about your choices. It shouldn't be a problem. You will control it. Don't even have to mention how many carbs. Just get what you want and eat what you want.

I called the surgeon's office about some other stuff, and told the nurse that I eat very low carb and have heard that it is hard to get that in the hospital. If it's going to be a problem, I want to start addressing it now, so it's in place when I get there. She said that if I've been doing it for 8 years, then obviously I can "tolerate" it, so the doctor will just write that into the orders. She said they lowest diabetic orders they've written is for 150 carbs a day (not sure whether that's net or total), but if that's what I need, he'll do it. Now to see whether he follows through. I have another appointment the week before the surgery, and I'll bring it up again then. I was surprised it was so easy. (If it happens.)

Some of you may know that I am back from my South Dakota vacation - it was sooo much fun. Loved it! Stayed in Keystone. I missed everyone here on this team and have spent the last 24 hours reading all of the posts.

Colleen - Your new recipe sounds delish.
Jim - It's nice that you can go to work a little later, and they won't have a fit.
Connie - Hope the humidity lets up for your breathing.
Steamy - Those forest fires can be very scary.
Faith - Congrats on the weight loss! - It's a good idea to have your thyroid checked out - you never know if your meds need to be changed.
Debb - Congrats on not eating the apple and blackberry crumble. (Apple pie is my weakness in the Fall.)
Suzanne - I had one child (a girl). Hubby and I always wondered what it would be like to have a son. And you have two! I bet they love their Mom.
Maw - Don't forget your knee exercises - I'm sure the physical therapist knows what's good for you.
Leslie - I'm glad you have a friend that can help you out. Hope things go well for you.
Heidi - I couldn't make the calculator work either.

Well, I gained 2 pounds on vacation, but they are coming off pretty quickly. Glad about that.

I also like the term of food plan. The difference between a 'diet' and a 'food plan' is one is for temporary and the other is for long term. The man I date still calls it a diet & talks it to death. His surgeon suggested he get all the processed food, wheat & sugar out of his 'diet' to clean out his body & lose 36#. After the weight is off (for good not just to get the surgery) then he'll consider resurfacing the right hip.

My friend goes on and on about what he's doing without. Then he goes on and on about who is doing which diet & how much weight they each have lost. I'm attempting to stay out of the voices in his head. Seriously . . . hour after hour after hour . . . breathe in . . . breathe out. He talks and talks and talks & asks the same questions over an over. I've given him so much material to read . . . he doesn't want to read. He wants to put the responsibility on anyone but himself. Shudder!

I'm leaving to teach out in an area that will be over 100 degrees. LOL! I've been hydrating all day. I made a veggie soup for dinner. I'll put Parmesan cheese in the chicken broth based soup. Yummmmmm!

I think this eating plan is simple. I don't go hungry. I don't have cravings. I can sit with people that are eating lots of carbs & be happy with the cheese, chicken, & a smaller butt.
When I'm a fast food place, I order egg & bacon; or hamburger & I don't eat the muffin, processed cheese, etc. Most places have salads . . . I'm not sure about the age of the salads but it's better than eating the buns & muffins.

If I don't lose another # I'm happy with how I feel & how my clothes fit. I'm wearing most all of my kicky summer clothes. My thighs are tighter & smaller. My waist & abs still will need time to adjust but they are both smaller & tighter.

When I was at the doctor's office last week she was congratulatory re: the weight loss. She & I talked about the LC plan & my goal. She agrees that all the processed foods, flour, sugar, etc is causing a lot of illness & side effects. I'll have a cholesterol test before the middle of September to make sure there aren't any challenges.

Breathe in . . . breathe out . . .Here's a visit to La La Land & sometimes I like to visit for long lengths of time. It's a land of my design & has my colors, my viewpoints, my optimism & my hopes. So . . . .while I wander around in my own La La Land . . . I get stronger & happier to face the real world .

YIPPEE! Connie

To be fair, Faith, they were all in the kitchen, and I was here, the other end of the house, in my office. So it really wasn't a temptation. Thank GOD they didn't ask me to join them! LOL

hi, it's already after 7:30 pm here! It's been really busy, with more unpacking and setting up.
Man, am I tired.

Neil and Sarah went back to their house, and return this weekend for 1-2 weeks, and then go back to their place to pack more and bring it down here.

Sarah made a lovely-looking apple (from our trees) and blackberry (wild, picked) crumble, but I didn't have any. YAY, ME!

Hope you're all well!

Glad you're sort of feeling better, Connie!

Your regular doctor can't pull the tooth, Leslie? Most of mine were pulled by the regular doctor, not an oral surgeon. Of course, I don't think any of them were infected like yours is. Hope someone can get to it soon. It would be nice if it could be done while things are slow at work.

Faith, I hear you about bouncing around in the same range. Me too! My weight actually isn't much different than it was a few months ago, but my pants don't fit. I guess not walking really made a difference inches-wise. I'm hoping to get rid of some pounds and some inches over the next couple of months. Sure seems like all the knee exercises - which are basically to strengthen the glutes and the the muscles in the legs - ought to help make my pants fit better.

I'm glad it was "just" the forest fires, Steamy! Where do you live that has fires that close? Or that big?

Jim, a lot of us find that it's better to call this a way of eating rather than a diet. Diet has such negative connotations! And we usually use diet to mean something that one does until one has lost the weight, then quits and goes back to "normal" eating. I'm glad you were able to stay low carb in spite of getting a late start!

Yikes, Colleen! I hope it wasn't raining very hard!

Started the day with some housekeeping and a nice walk, then bridge. Haven't done my knee exercises yet, but will get them in, along with more tidying and decluttering.

I'm back at my desk at work and I'm not exactly buried. That's frustrating because there's lots I'd rather be doing elsewhere.

I called my dentist because my tooth infection has gone down but is still there. I think I'll have to have the tooth pulled before it goes away, so the receptionist is going to follow up with my dentist about more antibiotics and a referral to an oral surgeon. This is all new territory for me and I'm really trying not to get anxious. I think I have a friend who can drop me off at the oral surgeon and then pick me up to sober up at her house before I drive home. This is one of those times when a spouse or a significant other would sure be nice...

Good mornin g everyone. I was making low carb pancakes with the Muffin in a Minute recipe and just cooking it on a griddle. I realized that the sugar free pancake syrup was triggering sugar cravings for me so I have cut down on those. I had a really good weekend as far as my food plan and am in fact down a few pounds to day. In the 220's which I have not made much progress in the 220's. Was at one time down to 225 but keep going back into the 230's. Well that has to stop.
Over the weekend I read something about Thyroids stuff and wondered if that may be some of my problem with not losing weight and feeling so tired and drained all of the time. I am going to have that checked out when I get and appt with my primary MD.

Well have a great day everyone!

It sounds as if everyone had a unique start to their day. I woke up to a house filled with smoke. I thought OMG - then I realized it was from the forest fires that started last week. The air quality hasn't been great - but wow. I'm off now - red, watering eyes and all.

I found a recipe for low carb pancakes, using almond flour. I think I'm going to give it a try when I'm off induction. Today's is a sausage and egg muffin I found here on SP.

Wishing one and all a good rest of your day.

Breathe in . . . breathe out. I let the emotions settle down all day yesterday. Today when I awoke I realized there was a little business to check with the person I've been dating. So, I made the phone call to check. Now I can release it & move on. Good thing I waited until I was not emotional. Whewwwwwwwww! My perception was correct and it was frustrating. Now I can stay away from that subject & I know where I stand.

Food plan yesterday may have been out of whack. It was my decision so I take responsibility. I added Malbec to my day and that, in itself, is a way to prohibit fat loss.

I'm going to do without predisone today. I'll assess my breathing over the day to decide if I need to take the drug before I teach tonight. It's hot & humid here in WI.

YIPPEE! My body works . . .I have fish & veggies in my refreg. I have friends, interests, family, passion for moving the body and this site to assist & hold me up when I'm foo-foo.

Monday . . . another day to show up & do it all over again! YIPPEE! Connie

Well, here's to a better rest-of-the-day. I'm looking forward to a good diet day today. Started off pretty good. I was a bit slow getting my breakfast together in time to get ready for work and take my son to school. Had a good breakfast; but ended up having to return home to finish getting ready or work. Aw well. It won't hurt to get into work a bit late. Just have to work a bit late to compensate.

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it!
