IMLOCOLINDA - Missed the Corn Palace! Darn. Went to Sturgis because it was so close to Deadwood. We wanted to say that we had been there. There was still quite a few motorcylists in the area. I was surprised that most of the guys had white hair.

Kris - I loved being able to drive that fast on the Interstate - not much traffic really. And we made really good time. South Dakota just seemed like a really friendly place to live. Next year, we hope to make it to Wyoming.

Glad you enjoyed your trip! You went at a good time, the weather has turned hot and humid and it's just miserable right now. High of 95 today but heat index will be around 103. Yuck. I don't do well with temperature extremes. So why do I live in South Dakota?! Well, I guess everything else about my city and state is wonderful. But I will say I'm surprised people were driving that fast, that's not been my experience on the interstate. Crazy people.

I missed my trip to South Dakota this year because harvest started...and is still continuing. My friend lives in Piedmont and works in Sturgis. Did you see lots of Harleys on your way?? I hope you stopped in Mitchell and saw the Corn Palace. Rapid seems bigger every time I go there. Glad you had a good time. Have a great week everyone!

I just got home from South Dakota and am getting caught up on my emails.

Maw and Kris - We stayed in Keystone and saw Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, Wind Cave National Park, Hill City, Deadwood, Sturgis. Saw the Black Hills National Forest and on the way back home saw the Badlands.

Loved every minute of it! Weather was about 80 degrees. Never saw a policemen on the Interstate and everyone was driving about 85 to 90 miles per hour. I live in Kansas City, Missouri - so we drove north on I-29 through Sioux City, Iowa and then through Sioux Falls. Then it was a long, long drive to Keystone. Wanted to go to the Wyoming border, but ran out of time.

My doggies were glad to see me when I got home. I had my daughter stop by twice a day to feed and water them. They don't like to be boarded at the Vet's.

And I DO live in South Dakota! Curious where you will be visiting here as well. You mentioned monuments so I'm guessing Mount Rushmore and places in the Black Hills. I live in Sioux Falls, opposite end of the state. But the Black Hills are my favorite place, especially the Spearfish area.

Where in South Dakota are you going, Joy? I used to live in Rapid City, at the foot of the Black Hills.

Maw - all that fresh food sounds so healthy. I can't believe how fast you are recovering.

Suzanne - I guess you are at all the games this weekend. Hope your weather is mild wherever you are.

I am still cleaning and getting ready for a much needed vacation with hubby to South Dakota. Never been there, but am excited to see all the monuments and such. Daughter is watching my Schnauzies - she has a Schnauzie also. They all get along well.

I booked a room at a lodge with a two - person jacuzzi in the room (as if we both could actually fit in it) and a granite fireplace. Sounds very relaxing and outdoorish. I'm not a wilderness gal, but looking forward to the adventure. Trimming my roses and sitting on my patio swing is about all the outdoor activities I do lately. Hope the buffalos are friendly this time of year.

Well, back to the housework.

Andrew has three soccer games today, three more tomorrow. So, guess where I am all weekend? Everything else is good. I got sick last week and still not 100%.

Went to the Farmers Market this morning for the first time in probably a month and a half. Between not having a fridge, waiting for the plumber, going back to Idaho, and then being sick last week, I was pretty much out of everything. Not anymore. As usual, I way overdid it. Big beautiful red and yellow peppers, heirloom tomatoes to make old-fashioned made-without-sugar ketchup, regular tomatoes for cooking and casseroles, a couple of big zucchini to make zoodles out of, okra to toss with bacon grease and then roast, green beans to cook with bacon, and brussels sprouts to probably fry in bacon grease. And a couple of chickens from a Mennonite(?) woman who said that they aren't organic, but they don't use antibiotics or hormones and they butcher and pack their own chickens so there's none of the junk that gets added to commercially prepared chickens. Oh, and a bunch of eggs from pastured chickens (and they really are pastured, too - right outdoors in a big field with just a roof that they can get under if it rains. Oh frabjuous day! Of course, now I have to do something will all this yumminess.
