My email preferences are set to always email me, but I never get any emails. Must be a bug. August was fairly productive for me with decluttering, but I still have work to do so will continue that in September.

Damn email preferences got set to 'never email me again'. How does it do that?

august wasn't much of a success for me. It never really had a lot of chance, between the weird work hours and lack of drive to do anything when I'm not working. Unfortunately, September is starting out the same. If I could just sleep well, I could maybe have some energy to spare for cooking, etc. Oh well, just keep plugging. Anything is better than nothing.

August did not go as planned for me but in hindsight I think I adapted and went with it all as best I could. I'm glad to leave it behind and move forward though...

Maw, did you start our September challenge thread? I'm thinking about how to frame my version of it.

The month is over! My spreadsheet really helped get things done, though I've slacked off the past few days. I worked a full (6 hour) day at the library for probably the first time in over 2 months, and I'm tired! So are my knees.

A cricket without rhythm?! Nay, only you... LOL

Today was a partial day at work and the rest of it was spent on the sofa at home! I can't believe it but I still don't have any pain. There's a little discomfort and since I slept badly last night I'm going to take a pain pill tonight.

Food bad. Fitness nonexistant (other than the mandatory dog walk). Self-care best possible under current conditions!

Well, I got my dog clipped short again. It's been so warm, he was always panting. If fall is anything like spring, we're good for another couple months of warm, so his short hair won't be a problem.

Going to spend most of tonight organizing my desk. I've have several things that I know are here, but I can't find them. File Ho!

Haven't checked in for a couple days. No decluttering going on, just been too busy. Food has been awful, especially yesterday and I am up almost 3 pounds! That is enough to get me back on track and I'm eating very LC today and trying to exercise more to get back into ketosis. Tomorrow my DD and I are heading to Omaha for a girls only shopping trip, coming back Sunday. Hoping to have time to get to Trader Joe's while there.

Leslie, glad your tooth extraction went well. Hopefully today isn't too bad for pain.

I did zilch today too! Had my cracked tooth pulled and I was happily doped up on the way there, got gassed and IV'd once I was in place in a chair, and woke up normal! Awesome experience, and the friend who took me cracked up a lot and kept saying something about posting YouTube videos but I'm pretty sure I was in decent shape mentally when I was done. If a tooth extraction could be fun and relaxing this was it.

Mind you, the dope of the day may have not worn fully off, and I have been warned that I will need the pain pills tomorrow. Today was a good day! Dog walk done. Food was almost nonexistant, and self-care... uh, does an anesthesia-induced nap count?? (I LOVE anesthesia! It's my new favorite thing!)

I'm going to bed now.

Did practically zilch today. I guess I did two days' worth yesterday. I did get my Christmas reservations made, and asked some questions of my surgeon's nurse. Got some answers from her, too. That's about it. More tomorrow.

Had a good day today. Did two double sets of knee exercises (may do another this evening in front of the boob tube), vacuumed the whole house, cleaned up the house from last night, did about 2 hours of grocery-type shopping (Pet Smart, Walmart and Sam's take a long time each, even if I don't buy much), cleaned up the kitchen from last night, tried a new recipe that I am adapting, and a few other little things. Haven't done tonight's dishes and kitchen patrol yet, but it will get done. It feels good to get things accomplished! Of course, I had to wake up at 5:30 to get it all done, which was not intentional, but I did get things done. I hate to admit it, but I almost seem to be turning in to a morning person. Seems like I get a lot more accomplished in the morning than I do in the afternoon.

I didn't do anything yesterday- no cleaning, no laundry and Maw, I didn't clean my sink either. And I don't care- I was wrung out when I got off work yesterday. Tonight I will do more because it needs it.

I need to FlyLady again, my motivation is waning.

Swept thru and gathered up old magazines and other recyclables and got them out of the house. I'm definitely going to keep decluttering on my challenge list next month. Didn't do it often, but what I did do made a remarkable difference.

A lazy day yesterday. Didn't even Swish & Swipe or shine the kitchen sink! But I did last night's shining this morning and got in my Swishing & Swiping. Wednesday is vacuum day, and I got that done already. That's also my cardio type exercise for the day!

Yes, even a little progress is still forward momentum.

Didn't do any simplifying tonight, got together with some friends from church so just no time. Food and exercise good today, but had to walk in the parking garage on my lunch break because it's just too hot and humid here, heat index at 100.

What an active team we were today. Took me awhile to get caught up on all the threads, good stuff going on here!

Just squeaked by with the veggies. Didn't even finish tracking. I was just so swamped all day. Ugh. But, an ugly win is still a win.

As I was going to St. Ives,
I met a man with seven wives,
Each wife had seven sacks,
Each sack had seven cats,
Each cat had seven kits:
Kits, cats, sacks, and wives,
How many were there going to St. Ives?

Yesterday was a pretty good day. Did two double sets of knee exercises, went for a nice walk (even climbed up a set of stairs by the school!), stayed Whole29, cleaned up the messes in two corners of my bedroom (shoes get/got flung in one corner, and clothes in another), made an eggplant and sausage casserole for the freezer (though I did eat two servings and should have only had one), and had a good time playing bridge.

When I got to the library this morning, there was nothing for me to do. I forgot that I had told them I would be gone this week. The did find something for me, so it wasn't a complete waste of time.

Maw, you're becoming "flywashed"! At some point all these things become so routine that once in a while you find yourself wondering when you did something, since you don't actually remember doing it.

It's scary, but this simplifying/tidying/decluttering business seems to be sinking in! I got up intending to work in the den (Tuesday is Den Day), but I looked at the living room and decided I just couldn't stand the mess anymore! So I cleared of (completely!) the couches and the coffee table, and not only moved them, but actually put them away or threw then away! Most of it, anyway. Some of it needs something done with, and some of it I didn't know what to do with, so those are piled neatly in the den.

What's scary is that normally I don't even notice the mess, and if I do it doesn't bother me, and even if it did bother me, I certainly wouldn't do anything about it!

Heidi, I can't believe what a ball of fire you are!

No fitness stuff today - other than the dog walk, food wasn't so great, and self-care? Well, I did not have enough work to do today so I played Candy Crush Saga at work!! I wish I didn't have to sit there but everyone else is pretty busy right now so bailing out would be rude. It's an odd industry... Anyway, I seem to be doing better with self-care right now but I guess that's because of this tooth infection and no energy!

Heidi, it would take me a year to get as much done as you have around the house. It took me a good 9 months to decide on a paint color for the living room and we lived with big swatches of different colors on the wall in the meantime.

Went out to a hibachi buffet place for DH's birthday tonight. Did pretty well although not sure what's in the sauces so I'm sure it was more sodium and carbs than I would like. Fortunately none of it was fabulous so I didn't overdo it on anything. Didn't get any decluttering done and just remembered I have towels in the washer that need to get to the dryer, better get to it.

Well, no decluttering yesterday, but I did track my food and stayed under 100 NC. Just.

I had a dream last night that I went out with the pooper scooper to clean up the kennel, and I couldn't walk for all the land mines the dogs had left. Guess my subconscious is telling me I'd better get on it (been a while).

Steady gets my vote too. I'm still doing "simple" as well. Just two habits but two that I have a tough time with. Veggies. Again. Still. Yet. Etc. And I want to increase my daytime water from 2 liters to 3. Think it might help with a bunch of different things.

Steady sounds good to me- I'd like to stay on this path.

Not sure where all I left off, I had no net yesterday so couldn't check in.

The bathroom is painted- I'll check for holidays tonight after work- after looking at the color in the same light for so long I couldn't see anything. The mirror is on it's way, the new lights are waiting to be installed (can't do that till the mirror goes up so we know where to put them), and the new ceiling light/fan is operational.

The living room is put back together, hallway completed- all sockets/switches and plates up plus replaced the ones in 2 of the 3 bedrooms and my bathroom. Looks nice- next weekend will be trim- that is daunting and looks like a bit more expensive than I'd planned but it has to be done. Never did coping joints before so this should be interesting. I'd seriously like to get the new tile, tub and vanity but just don't have the $$ for it now. The hub is doing pretty good fishing so maybe when he sees how nice it looks he'll spring for the tub & tile.

In addition to the above- I did 98% of the laundry, including the putting away part of which I have a hard time. I'd get a lot more done if I didn't have to be here.

Happy Monday.

I'm admitting to a carb binge today - I fully planned on staying in control but that did not happen... Moving on.

No fitness today other than the dog walk. And no squeaky toys for me yet, Maw! I'm not very perky and I only have one day of antibiotics left. I suspect I'm going to need more.

My other daily focus item is self-care and I have to say I did pretty well. Did some client work, loaded the boys in the car and did a nice relaxing drive to return her paperwork, read two magazines, played some Facebook games, exfoliated with my favorite body scrub, and just generally relaxed!

I also made breakfast for the work week - I took about a half pound of breakfast sausage, divided it into six chunks and smooshed each chunk into a muffin tin across the bottom and up the sides. Then I cracked an egg in each one, added red pepper flakes, sea salt, and Penzey's chives! Yum!

Maw, I love Steady in September!! I feel like I need a do-over for August, but in lieu of that I'll go for holding steady. My three items (food, fitness, and self-care) are primary concerns in my life - I need to repeat all three as focus items next month.

I have to confess to a carb binge last night. But surprisingly I don't have the usual hangover today. Maybe because it was just one meal? With my luck it will hit tomorrow when I have to be at work. Anyway, back on track today and woke up early enough to go for a walk/jog before church and before the insane humidity makes me melt. Also trying to drink a lot to flush the bad stuff out if that's even possible. Scale didn't move today, but it always goes up the second day after too many carbs so I expect a few pounds tomorrow. I know it's not worth it, but I still sometimes give in.

Got a good amount of shredding done yesterday and today. I'm at least 3/4 done with the file drawer. I've made a lot of progress this week.

Whew, Leslie! I'm glad to hear that you're not pouncing on chewy toys yet!

What do you think of Steady in September for a theme? That's what I'm planning on, anyway. Of course my situation is a bit different because I'm taking August, September and October to get ready for my surgery. This includes food, exercise and housekeeping/decluttering/tidying/etc.

I'm thinking that Steady includes keeping on with what's working, but also includes not going overboard on things. Not plan on excessive exercise or excessively restricted eating or excessive cleaning or excessive anything else.

Or, any other ideas for next month?

Got my veggies in yesterday. I like this not-tracking-on-weekends. I hate feeling guilty and stressed over stuff that's supposed to make life easier.

I feel like I should have accomplished more yesterday, but almost the only de-cluttering I did was on a couple of my toons in World of Warcraft. I cleaned their bags, reset their secondary specs, and changed out some glyphs and talents. All in all, a good day in Azeroth, lol! It counts!

Today I'll do my Weekly Home Blessing, á la FlyLady. I got started on it yesterday but didn't really follow through.

As I was going to St. Ives,
I met a man with seven wives,
Each wife had seven sacks,
Each sack had seven cats,
Each cat had seven kits:
Kits, cats, sacks, and wives,
How many were there going to St. Ives?

Simple? NOT! I was a Dervish! Living room- done. Hallway - done. New ceiling fan in bathroom - in progress. The layers of mud had to dry, the old fan system was much bigger (and ugly) so a 1' section had to be patched- the ceiling I'd done except for sanding and painting the patch. I cheated and called in Friday so I'd have more time emoticon

New mirror ordered, light fixtures on their way. I'll do the walls tomorrow. Some of the plug-ins and switches replaced. Still have quite a few of those to go...

3 loads of laundry DONE, the bane of my existence. Some summer stuff moved to the alternate dresser.

I'm tired- more tomorrow.

I'm definitely feeling better today and my face is almost back to normal in appearance. I can still feel a knot of infection on the side. This month just totally got away from me. I was so tired last night that I couldn't remember what I was supposed to do besides feed the boys, take my antibiotic, and swish my mouth with salt water! I'm pretty sure that's all I did before tipping over in bed.

Today I did some client work and went to my mom's to notarize a document for my uncle relative to the family partnership. No matter what I do for her I have to talk her down from the wild conclusions and bad assumptions she's come to by trying to work over an issue in her own head! It makes me nuts because she prefers her drama to my reasonable solutions... Even Whiskey ran out of the room and took a nap on her bed... LOL

My eating wasn't great but it's been really hard to plan and fix food that appealed and I could eat. I think I partially eat more than I need to sometimes because there's too much food in my fridge! I threw away two hamburger patties today because I couldn't remember when I cooked them and my stomach sorta clutched at the thought. I don't like guilt food!

I'm definitely feeling better but so is Whiskey - he got up from his afternoon nap, snarfed down his dinner, did two fast laps around the living room, and then pounced on a squeaky toy! I still don't feel like doing the same though... :)

The spreadsheet I printed out with what I need to be doing each day is a big help at simplifying. It doesn't necessarily all get done, but at least it's there where I can see it.

One reason for not decluttering - my knee brace is so bulky that I can't wear my regular pants. Fortunately, I have clothes in many sizes, and I found some that would fit over the brace without being impossibly huge. You know how it is - whatever you get rid of, you're going to discover you need it after all.

Did a double set of knee exercises today and will do another set tonight while I watch tv. Walked around the Farmers Market for over an hour, and spent about half an hour watering the gardens. I haven't cleaned up the kitchen yet, but I will before I go to bed.

Tomorrow I will make a big batch or two of pepper stuffing, using some of the veggies I got at the Farmers Market, and freeze it in individual servings. I need to look through last summer's recipes and see what else I should be making with the zucchini, eggplant, tomatoes, peppers, etc.

Food was good yesterday. Only OK today. But I did get 2 walks in.

Did quite a bit of shredding last night. Went through one more hanging file tonight but there wasn't much in that one to get rid of. And my label maker only came with a small sample cartridge so I need to go buy a full size one tomorrow since I've used it up already.

Gotta do my tracking before the day gets away from me.

Got my 3 veg in, but it was a weird food day. I got sidetracked with my backlog of work this morning, and missed breakfast. I had been planning to splurge and get an omelet with spinach and such. I didn't have much else on hand to eat and I didn't want to raid the vending machines so I decided to see how long I could comfortably go without eating anything besides the half and half in my coffee. I actually made it to 11:30!! My stomach was empty and growling, but I felt fine otherwise. Definitely couldn't have done that pre-low-carb!

I've been making up the carb/calorie deficit since, though, so I don't expect to have a great total by the end of the day. Maybe I should hit the hay now (8:52) and then I won't be tempted!

As I was going to St. Ives,
I met a man with seven wives,
Each wife had seven sacks,
Each sack had seven cats,
Each cat had seven kits:
Kits, cats, sacks, and wives,
How many were there going to St. Ives?

I didn't know you had a daughter, Naypooie.

Did one double set of knee exercises today, and may do another tonight. Finished up my estate planning and got it all into the hands of the attorney. Chatted outside for a few minutes this evening with my neighbor and ended up with at least 6 really itchy bites. (I rubbed them with alcohol and that usually takes care of them.) Downloaded a bunch more cookbooks from Project Gutenberg. Food was much better today. It was mostly veggies, so more carbs than usual, but at least the quantities were appropriate.

Do you realize the month is almost over? Any ideas for September?

Maw, your filing system made me LOL!

I had a funky day. My face is definitely less puffy and it feels a little better but my energy isn't back yet. I stayed at the office until about 11:30 and then stopped at the vet clinic to return the unused funnel for Whiskey (he isn't limber enough to lick his seam so the funnel wasn't necessary!), and then I got some groceries before coming home. I worked here remotely and did not take a nap (really!), and I ate badly. I had tomato bisque soup and grilled cheese!! I don't feel like I can digest a load of meat right now. I really do feel off. I got a roast chicken and picked at it a little so I did get some protein.

I'm glad Whiskey's back to full bounce status (even with staples in his tummy) but I can't wait 'til I can bounce again too!

Heidi, you sound like a ball of fire with your painting and home improvement projects! :)

Was very lazy today. Swished & Swiped and cleaned the kitchen but that was about it. No exercise, no cleaning or tidying or decluttering. I did eat Whole29, though again I ate too much. I think I am regressing cold/pneumonia/whatever-wise. Grrrrr.

My filing system is very simple. I pile up mail on the coffee table and sofa until someone is coming over, then sweep everything into a box and hide it in my spare room.

I have a binder too, for bill paying. But I realized today that I have 3 different places where I keep files! This HAS to stop. I am going through the filing cabinet which is small and just has one drawer now. There's also a large filing tub under the desk in the office and a stacking file holder on top of the desk. Since getting my laptop a couple years ago I never use this desk anymore and someday it will go away since my son is the only one using the PC on it now. So my goal is to fit everything in the small filing drawer. Not sure if that's realistic...

I just got back from Office Max. Bought a label maker and some colored file folders. I figure if I am going through all this work it's at least going to look good, I hate file folders with handwritten labels, they just look messy to me. So, off to shred and play with the label maker!

Filing. Pah, I actually resorted to taking some of my personal filing to work with me. I stayed 10 minutes late and got my bank statements printed and filed and a bunch of old stuff shredded.

I keep all my current stuff in a binder with clear plastic sleeves, and if I would just (as Fitkris says) put it away immediately when it was one measly little receipt it would be no problem. I like the binder, but, now that I think about it, I don't like the sleeves, so I'm going to blow the budget tomorrow and get some plastic folders that snap in there more easily. Office Max has them, I'll stop after work. The whole shebang is really for my DH's benefit. If anything ever happened to me he'd be clueless. Back when he did the bills it was all by mail. At this point in time he would have no idea how to make any payments or stop them!

Veggie report: good today and yesterday, but WAY over on calories today at least. Meh.

The kids did nothing to help- my daughter had worked all day and was tired- what ever. and My son played with my grandson and kept him out of my hair. I made dinner, fed them and put the little guy to bed; today was the first day of school for him, it was sort of sad to see him like that. Anyway, he spent the night with me and his mom brought his clothes and lunch over and we all went to school. Tonight I have the place to myself again so I'll start picking up and finish the cutting in on the paint. I didn't shine my sink yesterday- I didn't do anything, I was too tired. emoticon

Ha! I made my daughter take her four sweatshirts that had somehow migrated onto the top of my dryer away. Amazing how much space that freed up. I also got rid of a garbage bag full of comic books that have been hanging around for years. Two declutters in one day.

Leslie, I probably do have too complicated of a system. I finally stopped filing monthly bills like utilities and instead shred them as soon as I pay them. But I have a file drawer full of alphabetized files for the cars, mortgage, bank statements, etc. And it seems like I always have stuff to add to them which is where I'm getting bogged down. I know it would take all of 30 seconds to file it immediately instead of letting it pile up, it's just that I hate doing it and so it piles up. I don't think I went through my files at the beginning of the year, so i am starting with that tonight. Just going to go through 1 hanging file a day. I may be able to keep some of this stuff in my bill paying binder instead once I get things weeded out. Then I'd have to be better about tossing stuff regularly so it doesn't get too full.

I like the idea to put the receipts in a monthly file, that may help immensely! I am also going to sign up to get my bills by email instead. That would eliminate a lot of shredding not to mention mail pile up on my kitchen counter. Simplify!

Hope everyone is feeling better! Take care of yourselves and REST.

Goodness but it's dark out - and not yet 9 o'clock!

Did two double sets of knee exercises today. Cleaned the kitchen, vacuumed, Swish & Swiped, did some decluttering, made an appointment with an estate attorney. Had a pretty good day, though ate way too much.

Glad you caught your bronchitis before it turned into pneumonia, Connie!

Fitkris, do you have an overly complicated filing system?? I think most people do at home. You could finish your bill paying, walk the stack back to the file cabinet (same day!!), and stuff all the receipts in a single file by month. I don't keep that junk longer than a year since once the check/payment clears the bank, the vendor has cleared the charge as well. I have one file for each month and a set of alphabetical files I keep year after year for stuff like owners' manuals, appliance purchase receipts, and other major items. I purge the monthly files once a year and shred like crazy! I think I got that system from a book called "Confessions of an Organized Homemaker"... I think.

My day was spent at home swishing hot salt water around my mouth... BUT.... my awesome news was that the vet called and Whiskey's mass is NOT cancerous! The vet sounded like he was amped out on joy too and said that the entire clinic staff cheered! Whiskey is a happy, mellow little charmer and I think he's got a clinic full of fans now. I'm so relieved. Now all I have left to tackle is my tooth and the fading infection! My face is still puffy and my gums are irritated, but I'm so relieved to be healing and to know that my boy is okay!

No exercise (other than a fairly sedate dog walk), food was not great, and yet the self-care thing went pretty well. :) I have a remote connection to my desktop at work so I answered emails and did stuff from home. I hope I'm perkier tomorrow. I miss being perky.

Fun Topic to streamline our lives.

I went to the doctor & now am on antibiotics, additional probiotics, & predisone. Seriously, she gave me a sticker for coming in with a weight loss & before the bronchitis turned to pneumonia. LOL! I love stickers. Where I vote I know all the volunteers so I get there early & they have stickers set aside for me. LOL!

I enjoy celebrating with something that breaks the habit of years' behavior. Stickers, pins, dancing, walking backwards, pretty greeting cards, a new coffee cup, (which I bought 2 & will now go back soon to purchase 2 more). Myy throat & head still hurt but I no longer cough! TG! Drinking water . . . drinking water . . . .drinking water.

The predisone has a side effect of energy. I still need to lay down so my throat doesn't hurt. LOL! The antibiotic has a side effect of increased hunger & diarrhea . That should be interesting.

I went to my Zen healer also today. He concentrated on congestion in my face, ears, nose & chest. I only coughed once during the process. I can breathe shallowly. It's amazing how his energy can open channels for me. He visual cues help me release/relief & let it go.

YIPPEE! It's Wednesday & by this time tomorrow I may feel like riding my bike again. Fingers crossed. I teach a relaxation class on Friday @ noon. I teach 2 high powered aerobic classes each day of Saturday & Sunday. I pray that my Angels care & heal me so that I don't cough up a lung. 48 hours is to make a big difference in my breathing & my neck & throat should be feeling 'normal'. LOL!

Streamline . . simplify . . .heal . . .veggies set to be eaten if uncontrollably hunger sets in. Nothing else matters for the next 24-36 hours.

Hugs to Surround Us All as a Group! Connie, in WI

I ate.....a dumpling. I'm over it now.

No reason to just say no- that's a good thing.

Tried to get some stuff picked up and put away while my friend worked ont he *(%^$*&() door. Didn't get far. I managed to get the dishes done and the sink shined and I had been given an EAster basket that was on the cookbook shelf that still had candy (I only eat dark chocolate IF I eat candy), easter grass and assorted junk that was tossed into it since it's been sitting there for the last 4 months. Took out the bath products that were in it and put them away, threw out the grass and junk and put the candy in a bg for the grandson and/or Hub to eat.

I really want to get the living room put back together- after the hallway, the bathroom is on my radar.

Last night I set my Flylady timer and worked on sanding the dresser for 15 minutes, then did another 5. My carton of Chai that I bought on Saturday is gone, and I'm not missing it. So I think I can call my experiment a success and my supposed addiction broken. I've still not been turning on the TV much either.

This simplify challenge has been good for me too. I still need to figure out a way to simplify my filing though. The filing cabinet is in the office/craft/junk room, but I have a writing desk in the living room where I keep the bill paying things and pay bills/update the checking account on my laptop while watching TV, then toss the receipts and bills on the coffee table where they tend to stay. I think if I had a place to file stuff in the living room that was either camouflaged in some way or looked like furniture instead of a filing cabinet I would actually file it. Any ideas? Maybe I'm just too lazy.

Stayed with Whole30 again today, but ate too much. For some reason, the Whole30 food isn't satisfying. Don't know why. It should be. Did one set of knee exercises this morning, will do another this evening. Did a modified Swish and Swipe (I need to get the bathroom really cleaned up to do a proper S&S - but cleaning off around the sink yesterday was a good start). Cleaned off my desk and actually put most of the stuff away, instead of just moving it around. I set up chores du jour, kind of like they used to do in the olden days, except I just set up a different room to work on for 30 minutes or so each day. Tuesdays it's the den/office. So I got that checked off on my Daily Schedule. Will get the kitchen cleaned up, and that will give me four more items checked off of my Daily Schedule, which I think will make my ten for the day. All very low key and easy, and naps were included.

Oops! I just remembered that I forgot to take my last antibiotic! I'd best go take it right away.

Nay, you never fail to crack me up: decrepit undies one day and then SAD the next day! You would be a hoot to follow around... LOL

I'm glad the challenge this month was to keep it simple. With all the chaos in my life right now simple is a good coping mechanism. Had the follow-up mammo today - all clear. Whew. Then I called the endo office and said I was having a full-blown anxiety meltdown over my face blowing up, so they fit me in to a cancellation today. End result: tooth must come out. And I am so miserable that I don't even care!! I just want this infection gone - the tooth doesn't hurt a bit. So I'm swishing with hot salt water and taking antibiotics until it's down enough that my own dentist can yank the tooth out.

This valley I live in has a sorta backwoods, redneck kind of reputation and having a tooth pulled makes me think I've fully integrated... This is the part that is not a good thing.

On my challenge items today:

1) fitness - meh. I walked the boys this morning. Have to lift Whiskey in and out of the car so he doesn't bust his incision and he thinks that's degrading. He's 21 lbs so there's my ST!!

2) food - couldn't eat from anxiety. Had a protein bar after the good mammo news, a cup of unsweetened applesauce out of my desk, and then a double cheeseburger (bad, but it's my Sick Food when my stomach is all wonky). Not really motivated to eat anything else or cook.

3) self-care - did not go back to work after the endo appointment. Came home and put on my jammies at 3:30. Going to read, play Facebook games, and swish my mouth!

Yesterday went well- stuck to the eating plan, did as much of my routine as I could in the mess.

I got the second coat of paint on in the living room and got the cut in parts half way done. I stopped at 7:00 so I could do my routine, eat and spend a little time with the dog before I went in to read. I managed to get to bed at 8:30, read for about 45 minutes and had to turn the light out. I have an appointment this afternoon which gets me out of this hell hole early, then I'm meeting a friend back at the house to hang the new door. I won't get any painting done tonight- darn it. I want to get that done and put all the furniture back where it belongs and put the paint stuff away till the weekend when I take on the hall bathroom.
I am making a rich chicken soup tonight for the guy hangning the door. I'll take mine out before I put any carby stuff in it.

Food was Whole30 yesterday. Unfortunately, part of the program is that you are not allowed to weigh or measure yourself until it's over. The idea is that it is for health not for weight loss, and weighing and measuring would make you focus on the wrong things. Many people do loss on a Whole30, though. I keep telling myself that I am specifically doing it for weight loss so I should be able to weigh and measure, but then I tell myself that if I cheat in one thing I'm more likely to cheat in another. Oh, the arguments I have!

Did two sets of knee exercises while watching tv, and spent about an hour cleaning out drawers in the bathroom vanity and my night stand. Will try to get rid of all the old meds today. And that's about it for yesterday. I did most of the dishes last night (two days' worth), but didn't get all the pots and pans done or clean the counter, etc. I spent a very lazy day, and still was beat by the time I got to bed.

I'm taking it easy again today, though I do have a few errands that need to be done. One of them is seeing about getting another cat to foster. Also need to pick up some meds and do some grocery shopping. And try to get rid of the old meds.

Have a great day everyone!

Woohoo, Naypooie!

My mother, who has a hard time throwing ANYTHING out, moved to a new small house a couple or three years ago and my sister and I and our families hauled SO much stuff there that we were all exhausted. It was my niece who moved "the new family joke" - a cardboard box labeled "Old Underwear". Granted, we were pretty punchy at the time, but there was literally some Rolling on the Floor Laughing Various A$$e$ Off!

Still don't have my biopsy results and I'm getting a little cranky about it. I'm not too worried, just annoyed that my results aren't showing up yet - I called at the end of the day and the nurse checked again, but nothing. Sigh.

Food was good today. Didn't do any work on the dresser - too hot and humid outside. But I did declutter my dresser top and brought a bunch of magazines to the library. I am going to update the checkbook next, then if there's time do some reading before bed.

Maw, just reading about your day wears me out.

I got rid of some decrepit underwear that I'd been keeping "just in case I need them". I never need them. Clutter away!

Got my three veggies today.

As I was going to St. Ives,
I met a man with seven wives,
Each wife had seven sacks,
Each sack had seven cats,
Each cat had seven kits:
Kits, cats, sacks, and wives,
How many were there going to St. Ives?

I think I overdid yesterday, not that I did a lot or anything at all strenuous. I crashed about 9 last night. Not only didn't shine the kitchen sink, I didn't even wash the dishes, and I left an almost full can of coconut milk out on the counter.

This morning I was going to clean off the bathroom counter, and I ended up cleaning out the three drawers of the vanity and two drawers of my night stand. I put up two very full plastic grocery bags of outdated meds! Some prescription, some not. I think I can take at least the prescription meds to the hospital, police department or hazardous waste place. I hope they'll take the non-prescription stuff, too - some of it is things like Vitamin C, other is tylenol, cold medicine, and even some old fashioned sudafed.

Food was ok yesterday. Stayed with Whole30, but had too many snacks.

Just said no and was a whirling dervish. Tossed, painted and cooked. Accomplished some stuff, didn't others. Shined the sink but not washing my face, this is the last task. Night all.

I'm home from a fun weekend with friends. Chaser and I went to the friend's cabin and Whiskey stayed in the hospital but I suspect he thought it was a really fun, high-end spa... He's so social that I'm sure he had a great time. It's good to have him home - but I can tell he's exhausted. Gotta get some pills in him with his dinner so I hope he'll eat.

I ate badly but I did not overeat this weekend. Can't call it a win. I didn't workout at all but we did walk Chaser around the private lots... It was a short, sedate walk - can't count it! I do count the whole weekend as self-care though!!

Ugh, Connie, I hope you're feeling better! Not fun...

Well, the first 2 weeks of August I gave something up each week. Chai and mindless TV watching. Doing OK on both. I did buy some Chai yesterday, but used my blow money and not the grocery money, and don't feel like I'm addicted anymore. Still trying to decide what to do this week, debating about maybe adding something instead of giving something up, probably 15 minutes daily of working on a dresser I'm stripping, I haven't worked on it since June. I found my Flylady timer back, I had to put it away after I got it because the high pitched beeping sent the dog into terrified shaking mode. Now that she's gone I can use it again. And the toaster oven too.

Hope you feel better, Connie. Seems like lots of us have been sick lately.

Take care of yourself, Connie! Mine turned into pneumonia. That's great that your boyfriend is nutritionally on more or less the same page you are, and that his doctor recommends wheat-free, if not totally low carb.

I started with a cold on Friday & kept going. Yesterday was tough and today, I STOPPED.

The good thing is that the man I'm dating invited me to go to his orthopedic doctor on Friday. The dr invited him to read Wheat Belly. With that invitation and the suggestion for him to lose 30-40#s he is now on a food plan similiar to mine.

I'm taking throat lozenges, & antihistamines & decongestants, etc so the body will be out of fat burning for a few days. I think I gained 1# over the weekend. It's just the yucky stuff that comes from taking these drugs.

I want to read what's shakin in everyone's life. I'm going to stay down & out. I do need to run to a store to pick up more of the meds that work for me. I haven't had a cold in a longggggggggggg time. . . oh I remember . . .I got colds all the time when I was working full-time & under stress. I've been retired for a little over 2 years.
YIPPEE! In a few days . . .the throat will feel better. Connie

Saturday only got 2 veg in. I've decided to make it official that I don't track on Saturday and Sunday. When I do track the trend is to actually be a bit low on both calories and carbs, so, unless I see any major change, I don't really need to track every morsel. Monday through Friday, however, is critical. I can get so distracted by so many things that I completely lose track unless I DO track.

Sunday is shaping up OK so far. My chicken salad for breakfast has tomatoes and celery, so I'm counting that as one serving down, and two more to go.

EDIT: Dinner's over and DH managed to put a whole bunch of veggies together in one dish. It wasn't the greatest, but it was OK and I got AT LEAST 4 different veggies in.

Food wasn't so good today, mindless TV watching was fine. Didn't turn it on except to watch a planned show with DH. Finally got to Goodwill and dropped off 4 bags of stuff, happy to be rid of it. DH and I went hiking today in one of our state parks for about 90 minutes. Laundry done and groceries bought, calling it a day.

Stayed Whole30 today. I may actually make it the whole way. I had planned a trip to visit my SIL and nieces the end of this month, but I may skip that. In which case i can stick with the Whole30 thing instead of doing a Part30.

I did 10 things on my daily schedule, but only 2 exercise things. I got in lots of exercise, though, including almost an hour at the Farmers Market and a couple of hours on my feet supervising the dog program at the library.

Poor Tater, anytime an animal has to go breaks my heart, but his days with you were good ones so at least he knew love (and a syringe of medicine emoticon ). Maw take care of yourself! That can get real serious real fast and what would we do without you?

Woubbie you crack me up!

I'm saying NO today! After last week I'm staying HOME. A friend down the road we don't see very often came up yesterday and invited everyone for a BBQ, ordinarily I'd have gone but I have things to do here and if I left I know I'd not get back to them. As it is I'm getting a slow start. I slept in till 7:00, which I never do but I needed it. I sat around drinking coffee for over an hour (playing solitaire no less) then made little H and my breakfast- I make extra for him on weekends- we had a semi-proper English fry up, bacon, eggs, a nice heirloom yellow tomato grilled and some sliced mushrooms all cooked in coconut oil- yum! Now it dishes, shampoo the living room carpet, scrub the nasty kitchen floor and throw yet another load of the *€£|!#%,€~'never ending laundry in. Next it's off to hose out my sewing room and sit at the machine for a few hours.

The shopping will have to keep till tomorrow. Not sure when I'll get Hannibal out for his run.

Leslie - I have two Schnauzies, and the vet told me that they tend to lose their teeth more than some other dog breeds. Two years ago, I had to spend $1,800 because both of them needed quite a few teeth pulled. (That amount included their yearly shots and meds, too.) I almost had a heart attack when I paid the bill. I should brush their teeth more often than I do, but sometimes I feel lucky to get my own teeth brushed in the morning.

Will spend the weekend decluttering again. Where does all this junk come from? I guess me. I run errands and go to the store and put things down. And then if something else comes up, I forget about the stuff I put down and it doesn't get put away. Will try harder.

Maw... Part30, which is Whole30 except when you're not doing it?? Classic!! LOL And pneumonia?? AND Tater?? Yeowza, please take care of yourself - Nay's right, we DO need you!

I didn't track food but I didn't do too badly. Oh wait, never mind. I just remembered something Unfortunate.

Moving on.

No exercise and I didn't even walk Chaser - figured he could probably use a day off after his dental. No telling how old he is and he seemed content to follow me from room to room today. He had to stay home alone while I ran to a client's office (okay, more like 'drove responsibly') and got some groceries, and he did fine. He's never been here by himself before - always has Whiskey around for company and we all say Chaser learned how to be a Schnauzer by watching Whiskey!

Derailed there.

Self-care was not bad - I didn't push myself too hard. I'll have a lot to do when I get home Sunday night and I will have Whiskey home so I'll have to watch him too. Tomorrow Chaser and I are leaving around 8:30 to go hang with a couple of girlfriends (Chaser's neutered so close enough) for overnight. I'll check back in on Sunday!

Maw - sorry to hear about poor Tater. So sad.

I can't believe you have pneumonia - maybe you need to start taking care of yourself for now. You have been so busy helping others, maybe you got your immune system depressed.

Keep us updated as to your condition and how you are feeling.

The clutter is still trying to grow again. Lord help me.

Technically got my 3 veg in, but it was two meals of fast food. McBurger minus McBun and Taco Bell salad - which, when you eliminated the rice, the beans, and the shell was a total waste of money and I'm still starving. Have a couple of chicken thighs in the convection oven.

I checked with the shelter about Tater, and was told that they had had to euthanize him. He went downhill fast this week, and his lungs got congested, and they decided that with everything that was going on it was in his best interest to have him put to sleep. Poor Tater. I'm really impressed with how far they will go to keep an animal with health issues (someone said that they had had a dog's leg amputated, and were treating it post-op), but I'm also glad that they are willing to have an animal euthanized when it's in the animals best interest.

I have pneumonia.

What a day.

Progress is progress no matter how modest.

As I said in the daily update, I rather blew the Just Say No thing and had no time for organization or anything else for that matter. While in the salon chair I did manage to read the August issue of Real Simple- the organizing tip of the month was organizing your dressing- good Heavens, if I used all the slots, bins and compartmentalizers they did, I'd not be able to get anything in there!

Today when my brain shuts down and I can no longer function, I'l FL a bit and get myself centered.

1. Stop wasting money- Save money

2. Exercise- do something every day

3. Get organized- mise en place

4. Write a letter by hand at least once a week.

Did pretty well with my daily schedule. There are 15 items on it, and I've decided that I've done well if I've done at least 10 of them, including at least 3 of the 5 exercise items. (The exercise items are doing the exercises the doctor gave me 3 times a day, plus doing my own stretching etc. and doing some sort of cardio type exercising - walking, swimming, active gardening, etc.) The rest are all cleaning type things - wash the dishes, clean off the stove, 15 minutes of decluttering/tidying, etc. Nothing major, just things that need to be done if I'm to be ready for surgery month after next. (That sounds so much closer than October, which sounds a long way off!)

Food was good, too. I've decided to do a Part30, which is a Whole30 except for when I'm not doing it. I will do the Whole30 (very strict Paleo) when I'm in Bloomington, but won't worry about it when I'm gone - which will be the last week of August and another week in September. That's not exactly how a Whole30 is supposed to work, as it's pretty much an elimination diet, but it will give me a structure for how I eat for the next couple of months.

The house is showing definite signs of improvement, at least to me. There's actually room on my kitchen counters to put things when I take them out of the fridge or to do things! How novel. There's a long way to go, though. Fortunately my goal for having a clean, clear, tidy, uncluttered house is two and a half months out, so just a few minutes a day of new stuff plus a few minutes a day of keeping up with what's been done should do it.

Aw, Fitkris, I'm so sad for the loss of Cloe. She's now hanging out with new friends: Gypsy, Annie, Lexie, and Bo. They're all Schnauzers and are glad to see her.

I posted on the daily thread about my day, so I won't repeat it all here. I'm just tired and going to bed very soon! I didn't do so great with my three simple challenge items today, but maybe I get self-care points for not overdoing anything tonight.

Thank you, Joy!

I have done well this week with not watching TV mindlessly. I haven't really replaced it with anything productive though, but have to give myself a pass on that given my week. I'm also not going to worry too much about decluttering until the weekend. Still have not had any chai either - was going to buy some with my blow money but gave my son my last $3 for a cheap meal on the way to band camp Tuesday night.

Leslie and Kris -

Hope everything goes okay with your results. Keeping you in my prayers.

Kris - Sorry to hear about the loss of your pet. Be kind to yourself today.

Need to remotivate myself about declutter - I feel things could start backing up on me again if I don't keep pushing myself.

I've had a good day. I got almost everything on my list for today done. Exercising, cleaning, tidying. And I ate well, today. Good food, and also appropriately low carb and healthy. I'm not tracking my food, and I probably ate more carbs than I really intended, but almost all of them were veggies. But the carbs in tomatoes that I grow myself and eat right off the vine don't count, right?

I put a big box of books - mostly cookbooks - in the car to take to the library book sale. And I put an overflowing big box of newspapers and other paper recycling in the recycling bin. Those parts of the living room look much better. And while I didn't shine my sink, I did empty it and wipe it clean. The kitchen looks lots better, too.

Glad you're taking it easy, Kris. You deserve it.

Leslie, sounds like you've got a good boss.

Well, Cloe is gone and the house seems very wrong without her. DH and I are going to give a donation in her memory to the Humane Society where we got her. Seems like a good way to celebrate the wonderful dog she was. My biopsy was today, I should have results Friday. Just taking it easy tonight with little ice packs and will probably go to bed early, feeling tired and emotionally drained. My daughter leaves tomorrow morning to go back to college and I'm sad about that too. Food has not been that great today. Tomorrow will be better!

Okay, Maw's had a bunch of teeth pulled (gads, Maw, you got some left??) and Heidi's got an implant so I'm feeling a lot better! Turns out there's more people walking around with molar gaps than I suspected - my boss is one of them! I scheduled the follow-up mammo/ultrasound for next Tuesday, the endo exam for Thursday, and then told my boss the whole thing and he told me not to even bother to come in the morning of the mammo... :) It's another hour+ drive down and back, so I'll relax, listen to my music, and maybe stop at Trader Joe's on the way back to get some goodies for the office!

I found some old (and I do mean OLD) antibiotics in my bathroom so I'm taking them twice a day and my lymph node is feeling lots better. I also did some basic research into my dental coverage and it's enough to cover a little! I'm not freaking out because I've got more in an HSA and I can find other ways to cover the rest. Not freaking out is a good thing. :)

So today was good on food (so far), no fitness other than the dog walk, and self-care involves doing nothing but puttering on dinner, tomorrow's lunch, and folding some laundry before going to bed on time or early!

Ah, the bad stuff. See What I Ate.

My challenge is to get rid of some clutter in my house, or do some organizing in my office or Mom's house. I think I've done something twice now.

Other good things. I tracked my eating yesterday. And apparently I stayed under 100 NC.

It'll be o.k. Leslie- teeth can go at anytime. There used to be an adage "for every child a tooth is lost" or something to that effect. I have an implant and I love it. Getting the post and what not put in didn't hurt either.

See Woubbie- you can do it! Veggies and a whole lot more!

Nay, report the bad stuff too- that's what we're here for and perhpas we could help???

No cause to Just Say No- perhaps everyone knows that is what I'm going to say and have just stopped asking? It could happen. I also haven't been out of the house to run into anyone that could ask for anything.

Didn't read FlyLady (too busy confusing myself with nutritional studies) but did put ideas into practice- went to put some pans away and wound up pulling everything out, cleaning the shelf, restacking and putting away- it looks great and there's room but I'm in toss mode so will NOT be adding to the collection.

1. Stop wasting money- Save money

2. Exercise- do something every day

3. Get organized- mise en place

4. Write a letter by hand at least once a week.

Every day this side of the sod is a good day-
not sure who said it

My animals make me happy, some people not so much- a bumper sticker
