Terr, I don't know how you managed to not say "I told you so!" emoticon I'd still give her the book, save her a few dollars so she can have another treatment.

Joy- HE insisted then CHARGED you? Trees might look a bit funny but if it lived it would eventually spring back and with judicious pruning, would be fine. Instead of a tree, have the DH plant a lovely, tall hedge!

A guy came to the door this morning and noticed my redbud tree was half dead from the draught we had last year. He and his crew were in my neighborhood this week, cutting down dead trees for people. I wanted to give the tree one more year to recover since it was my favorite tree, but he said it wouldn't look right with all the dead branches gone. So they cut it down and hauled it away for $150.00. I almost cried. And what's worse is now I can see my neighbor's house really good. And he has always been a thorn in my side. I need hubby to plant another tree right away! And I think the birds I have in the yard are a little confused as to where they should perch now. My female redbird is sitting on our basketball hoop by the driveway.

LOL, Terr - she teases you about your fad diet and then goes for liposuction? LOL again!

I'm all excited! I've been experimenting with my outdoor walking program here at work for the last couple of weeks and I think it's a success! I found a discreet route where I can alternate walking and jogging on grass as well as asphalt/concrete. It has a decent amount of uphill/downhill sections. And it's almost exactly the right length for me to get it done in 25 minutes and be back to my desk in time to punch back in from lunch. (I hardly even break a sweat, so I only change tops and shoes, and leave the slacks on.)

So, I'm slowly working up to adopting Primal Blueprint exercise methods, and every time I read the word "sprint" I cringe. I mean, I barely JOG more than a few yards at a time let alone sprint.

As of yesterday, I can sprint! I only ran the length of a tennis court, but I went flat out as fast as I could. Even better, I walked straight uphill immediately afterwards for about a minute, and by the time I hit the level parking lot I wasn't even out of breath.

What IS this magic!?!?!

Hot (99) and muggy today. Ran a few errands this morning then planned on puttering around the house and working a bit from home, but I am having a hard time getting in gear. Just tired today and would rather sit an read.

Got a laugh this morning, my daughter in law (who thinks my WOE is nuts and is very vocal about my 'fad' dieting) decided to try LaserLipo and went for her first session. During the session they had her watch a video about 'eating smart'. She stopped by on the way home totally excited. Their aftercare plan -- avoid refined carbs, total daily carbs - 120, total daily sugar - 15g. The Dr also recommended she read Gary Taubes book. I was proud of myself -- I didn't laugh or say I have been talking about and living this way for 10 years, or even hand her my book.

I have to say though, I am happy that living low carb is starting to become more accepted in the mainstream and that more and more medical professionals are at least mentioning it as an option for their patients.

Have a great day!

Maw, you're sorta 'next door' to me - can you see me waving?!

I'm so dang sick. Yesterday I went home early, cancelled with a client, and lay down in my work clothes on my bed for about five hours. It progressed fast - swollen lymph node, sore throat, irritated sinuses, then probably a fever (didn't check - didn't want to know!), and now it's all better except for my sinuses and my energy level! Ugh. I'm at work but I won't make it all day - just need to keep the critical stuff moving.

I have no patience for people who will not help themselves! My mom is sort of like that - continually victimized by circumstances (of her own making) that prevent her from doing the right thing, the healthy thing, or even living better. I have a very good friend who has Crohn's and she won't give up her junk cereal every morning. I really think that her flare-ups would die down with better eating, but she eats the way her doctor tells her to eat.

Gonna tip back in my chair and close my eyes for a little bit... :) I'm the only one in the office for a while and it's peaceful.

Go Maw! Keep the dog walking and do something after the trip north and once back south again- sitting on planes and cars for that long is bad for you. I pity you next to the little kid- EVERYTIME I get on a plane I am surrounded by crying babies, kids kicking my seat, screaming brats- it's enough to drive you to drink and on the way to HI we did and it was complimentary because the nasty little girl behind us screamed the entire way! No one could get her to shut up so the flight attends just kept bringing cocktails. 5 hours of sheer hell.

Today is an o.k day thus far, still early- ask me later. Botched my peperoni (see fat fast post) but put my egg on the plate to get some of the fat.

My back hurts today, worse than usual so I'll try to get up and move more. IF it clears off as it has the last few days (until I wlaked the dog and got stuck in the rain over a mile from home) I'll go outside.

Pretty much just a normal day here. . .

Had a good trip out to Idaho. On the long leg I sat next to a woman and her 21 month old boy. He was pretty good considering he had to stay confined for so long, but was very high energy and active. His poor mother! It was definitely a full time job keeping him entertained.

Took the dog for a walk last night and again this morning. She loves it, and it's definitely good for me. Tomorrow we drive 9 hours to northern Idaho to spend a day with my brother, then 9 hours back here. Sigh.

I wouldn't say that Mom is supportive of my WOE, but she accepts it, which is nice. And, as I have said before, I'd be too embarrassed to eat off plan in front of her after all these years of insisting on eating low carb! I usually end up losing weight while I'm here.

I am on the Managing Diabetes team, and they seem pretty receptive to low carb as an idea. As diabetics, we are told to cut carbs already to manage glucose, so the only thing in question is how far to drop it, and the worry of low blood sugars. Convincing them to drop to 100 g a day is possible, but try 50g, and they start to think " Danger!! ". I think it is just easier for a doctor to prescribe a pill and know you will stay at 140, than to actually fix the problem, by changing diet, and teaching the patient to eat a few carbs at each meal to avoid low blood sugars. They seem to be worried about low blood sugars, but I was more worried about amputation and blindness from high blood sugars. Even after 3 years without any pills for diabetes, it is hard to convince them to try something new. After all, they have to trust their doctor more than a total stranger.

Today I have to go back to the hospital to get my brother's PT/INR checked. That's his Coumadin levels/ how thin his blood is. Supposed to be between 2 and 3. He has been averaging 3.5, and last week it was 5.6, which almost got him put in hospital. So they cut his Coumadin for two days, and the dose down, and hopefully he is low today. He also had 3 huge salads to help get that lower. He has to take Coumadin for his A-fib, same as I do, but this is why I hate pills. As our weight drops, the meds get too much, and they wait so long to get rid of/cut dose of their beloved pills, that we end up almost going to hospital because we are getting healthier. It just makes losing weight more complicated. Today I just have to pay for a doctor visit, but a hospital stay would be a big problem, since my brother only works part time on the weekend, so he works the next 3 days, and because of the cost of this extra visit, I am $20 short on my rent. So I need him to work...lol.

I took an hour walk, and have to do a resistance band workout. Then the hospital at noon, and the ball game is on TV at 1 p.m. All I have to do after that is clean kitchen and cook lunch/dinner.

I have gained weight on higher carb for a week now, even while eating just 1600 calories. So I cut the peas, and plums, and lost 1.6 since yesterday, while eating 1736 cals. Today I am eating almost 2000 calories, due to higher fat in the meat. My back pain seems to be gone also. Not sure if it was from eating too little? Could just be old age. Been hurting about the same amount of time as I started eating more carbs, and cut calories to 1600.

Sunny and 70 here. Another beautiful morning. It has been a nice summer so far. Hope everyone is having a wonderful day.

Work out morning at the gym today! Next week, I hope to add another day and make it 3 times a week at least. I really feel good and productive after these work outs, which in turn, help me to keep going on the low carb. Not quite back on t full time yet, but very close! Going to shoot for next Monday when my 'food journal' starts. lol

Overcast day here and nothing else planned. Might get on the bicycle and do a mile or so. Thank goodness the road in front of my house is flat and easy! lol

Thursday has come awake .. I've been up since 4:00am and caught a friend on facebook who I usually don't get to talk to What a blessing.
No rain for Alabama today and tomorrow. Woot.. After being in drought conditions for many years we are loving the rain however, we are trying to fix a roof leak in the home we just bought. Had to purchase "as is" as the bank owned it. Can not wait to get in and start giving the tender loving that this home needs. Rain is loved, but the damage it can cause is not.

Have a great day.

type with you later. Junebug

I'm going to bed! I was up all night doing taxes. Only 1 more section of receipts left! Yeah! One last all nighter.

Suzanne doesn't it drive you crazy when you want to help someone who asks for help and they not only won't try it but won't even listen!! I had that on the 8 week diabetes challenge team. I'm trying the diabetes team Birgit is on, but.............if I say anything I'm afraid they'll attack me with SP "facts". OY!!

Have a great day everybody. Sunny this a.m. but rain this afternoon in central MN

James has gym class today. Andrew has soccer. That is my day!
A girl on my other board is complaining about now losing any baby weight, but she eats way too much. I tried to tell her that she should not be stuffed after eat meal, but she does not listen. Oh well. Now she cannot fit in her bridesmaid dress for the wedding.
