Thanks Joy! I saw that Fat Fast Cookbook on the Carbsmart website a couple weeks ago. Right now, on the Anti-Inflammatory Diet I'm on as per my Naturopathic Doc, I can't have dairy at all, so I don't think I could do the Fat Fast right now. Once I can add back dairy, and assuming it doesn't cause problems when I DO add it back (fingers crossed!), I think I will try the Fat Fast for a week or so to get back into Ketosis quickly. I haven't been able to be in ketosis since I started my NP's diet a week and a bit ago.

Being an impatient person, I purchased it and downloaded it so I could read it right away.

Laura - I have been having more success since using the 85%fat,12%protein and 3%carb formula. Downloading a Fat Fast Cookbook got me started on this. I noticed that a lot of the ingredients had heavy whipping cream, butter, and cream cheese in them. I love all of these things. So, one thing I do is take my cream cheese and using my electric beater, I add some heavy whipping cream to it and then a few fresh strawberries and mix it all together. I use a little of Da Vinci vanilla flavored sugar free syrup. Then, when I have a sweet tooth or want to up my fat for the day, I go to the fridge and eat a Tablespoon or two out of my container. Peanut butter has been good to up the fat. And I love my decaf instant Folgers in some water with 2 Tablespoons of Heavy Whipping Cream about 3 times a day. Cheddar is good, and it has also been key in keeping my blood sugars from going too low on occasion.

Also, I now am a big red meat eater with a cobb salad. I love to go to Longhorn Steakhouse and get a steak. And they have a wonderful cobb salad with everything you need on it. avocado, cheese, tomato, bacon with a smoky tomato dressing on it. It's very addictive.

But I use the Nutrition Tracker to gauge myself during the day to see if I need to adjust the fat intake. They have a pie chart that helps me see where I stand on that issue. I will try to figure out how to make my nutrition tracker public so you can go to my SparkPage and click on it just to see how I eat now.

Joy, I think I need to up my fat more to the ratios that you use... could you give me an example of what you eat in a day?

Russell - I so agree with you on how they should conduct a real study.

I have heard Atkins described by Jimmy Moore as being a heavy fat, moderate protein and low carb nutritional way of eating. I know I had to recently go back to 20 grams of carb and up my fat to about 85% before I would start losing again. I will just stay with this formula until the weight is gone and maybe beyond.

Like you said - it just works.

I've seen this before, but re-watched it. I can understand that scientists would want to understand why it works, but for most people it is enough that it DOES work. Furthermore, while low fat works about the same in a lab, it doesn't work the same in real life.

People on low carb can continue to eat properly, and low fat people are getting heavier, and sicker. In real life, the difference is much greater than it was in a lab. The fact that I could lose weight in a lab, being fed the right foods is only comforting, if my goal is to live in a lab, and be fed tidbits of food, like a trained seal.

You want a real study? Ask 100 people to follow each of the 2 diets, and tell them there will be a weigh in at the end.Let them eat anything they want to. See who can stick to it, and lose the most weight. I guarantee the low carb group loses 3X what the low fat one does.

I found this documentary on Youtube about Dr. Atkins and his approach to eating. It all started because he was a terribly overweight cardiologist.

It's really neat to watch.
