Well my label says sesame seeds only I believe. Anyway it works for me. I think it is a better option than peanut butter. And my weight is down this morning so it doesn't seem to be hindering my weight losts since I am not eating huge amounts of it at a time.

The "Once Again" nutrition label is a good example of how FDA food labeling regulations seem to allow math that in no way resembles the data we need for low carb. The USDA data is 3 net carbs per ounce of sesame seeds (the only ingredient listed the tahini). Good reminder to me to keep rethinking any favorite items I bought based on the nutrition label, not the ingredients list.

Tahini happens to be the perfect example as it has only one ingredient.
Self magazine provides one of the most technically detailed nutrition trackers, but it is a great resource, and the nutrient data come from the USDA database.

Yes, Tahini and all the other nut butters are quite expensive. Non-organic almonds seem to be the cheapest, and using the food processor to make almond butter works pretty well. I have to say when I first started low-carb I ate a lot more then I do now. Not a conscious effort on my part, I'm just not that hungry any more as I was in the early months of it. That fact has reduced my food bill quite a bit. I used to eat 4-eggs omeletts routinely, also several ounces of nuts, large cuts of meat (12 oz.) and now my body seems to have finally understood that there is always more where that came from and the quality is good enough to where all essential nutrients are present.
Sorry, this is really a separate topic. But it does affect how long the nuts and nut butters I buy will last.

Brigit, that label is about the same as mine. My brand is called Woodstock, is organic and unsalted and yes I keep it in the fridge. It is noticeably unsalty and unsweet. But it doesn't trigger me like PB but it gives me the creamy nutty sort of experience. I am able to do just a TB or 2 at a time. It is good on the flax muffin, also to dip pork rinds in. Not cheap though at over $8 a jar.

Haven't tried tahini (except as an ingredient in hummus)
I love, love, love almond butter

I suspect that the info is correct. This is the type I use incl. the nutrition label.

Sesame is an oily seed, not a grain.

My only reservation about Tahini is that, just like nuts it should be kept refrigerated because of all the unsaturated fatty acids that can go rancid.

If it sounds too good to be true...

I would question the label. Half of the carbs of sesame seeds themselves are fiber, and the other half are, well, carbs. I can't see that tahini would be very different. Looking at generic nutritional info on tahini I find the same results. I hope I'm wrong and the label is right, but you might want to use the tahini judiciously.

I've made sunflower butter myself but it didnt' have that natural sweetness. I've made walnut butter which was good, almond butter, pecan butter, all good. I just wiz it up in my Cuisinart. Oh and macadamia nut butter too. I suspected a nut allergy so I was trying a lot of different things.....

I am starting my ticker again since starting low carb....in the home strech!

I like it, use it in some cooking. But I use nut butters more often (except for peanut butter).

I recently bought some in a jar on the peanut butter shelf. 4 carbs and 4 fiber = 0 net carbs. I have been putting some on my Muffin in a minute. Yummo! Anybody else tried it or substituted it for peanut butter?
