Moxie - enjoyed the graphic and chart link.

I am certainly more primal. It's more like Atkins. I got to have the fat because it satisfies and helps with my hypoglycemia episodes, which actually have not been an issue for the last couple of week. Has to be due to eating fats and avoiding carbs.

I'm with ~MAW... I'm more primal than paleo. I love my cheese and dairy! I do try to eat real, whole foods, though. That is compatible with both those approaches. I don't do the grains, and try to strictly limit beans...and I simply *can't* do the exercise/activity part because of my other medical issues. I find primal and low-carb are very compatible.

A lot of us are doing Primal, if not Paleo. (Primal tends to be a bit looser than Paleo about things like dairy. It also tends to focus more on the whole lifestyle thing.) I would say that I do pretty much Primal as far as food goes - I do eat dairy, but not the grains, beans, etc. I don't do the exercise part of it, though!

Moxie - thanks for the link!

Wow, I don't know if I can give up dairy totally. I could cut back quite a bit - but that's butter, cheese and cream, which is where I get most of my fat intake.

I'll read up on it a bit.

Is a good place to start researching. It's kind of like really clean Atkins, no artificial stuff. They do have more carbs from things like sweet potato. The philosophy is not to eat what a cave man didn't eat. Meat, veg, fruit, nuts, no dairy if you are really pure.....

Isn't it funny how when we follow the American Standard nutritional guideline or the American Diabetes nutritional guideline that we put on weight?

That's what I love about the late Dr. Atkins. He just didn't care what the so-called experts said. He just followed through with his research and has left us a legacy of information and scientific data.

I have been hearing about Paleo - but don't know that much about it.

Could you tell me the differences between Paleo and the Atkins? Or give me a link so I can research myself?

Thanks.

So I did paleo last summer and easily lost 40 lbs. over 3 months with just following the diet strictly and walking a lot (like 10 miles a week or more of just walking, not counting step taken just in daily activity). I wasn't even especially low carb (I think I was in the 50-150 range most days, because I like fruit). Anyway, after going out of state for a family funeral and then the holidays I fell off the paleo wagon, but I was still eating paleo for probably half of my meals and eating low grains/gluten. Then I had some GI issues that sent me to the hospital twice and have had to eat a Standard American Diet for the last few months in order to get an accurate diagnosis. During that time I've regained some of the weight I'd lost, but not all (fortunately) - I think the fact that I still try to walk to work most days and take my dog for a walk on weekends has really helped.

Anyway . . . I am having my screenings done in just under a week and I'm excited to get back to paleo, but I'm inviting friends and strangers who have been interested in trying paleo too to join me! I set up a Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/504561269
619821/) since I check facebook more often than I do health forums like these. So I figured I'd invite people from Spark to join up as well if it's something you're interested in trying. It's a closed group, so you'll have to request to join. It's free, I'm not making any money off of this. And you get to pick your plan too - so you can do Whole 30, 21 Day Primal Challenge, 21 Day Sugar Detox, etc. I know that Mark Sisson's Primal Challenge is meant to be lower carb (and that's the version of paleo I was following when I lost the weight last year).

I'm not pushing any one plan - just inviting people along for the journey if paleo has been something they've been interested in trying. It's only a 21 day challenge, so if it doesn't fit your lifestyle, or help you reach your health goals, or anything you can always go back to the way you've been eating. :) I thought there might be some low carbers out there interested in paleo, since it can easily be low carb, but it's low carb based more on real food than shakes and meal replacement bars.

Anyway - if it's been something you've been considering - I hope you'll join us!
