Mexican cuisine is a favorite of my hubby and me! But now I just order a taco salad and don't eat the shell. Or I get some fajitas. Yum.

I didn't think about all the hidden carbs in the salsa and enchilada sauce. Yike - I think I should stay on 30 carbs forever and just realize all the little hidden carbs may put me at 40. I don't do net carbs - I use total to be on the safe side.

The place I live only has 1 Mexican place, the other was just recently sold and is being remodeled. The one we went to doesn't have any plain meat dishes and I didn't even think of asking for the innards on lettuce. They have a good Colorado but the sauce has sugar in it- as does their enchilada sauce. It is depressing.

I need to go back and look at what an average day for carbs was for me. I'm almost afraid to look. The Mexican Day was 100 grams, I've been trying to keep it under 30.

I like chocolate cake.

1. Stop wasting money- Save money

2. Exercise- do something every day

3. Get organized- mise en place

4. Write a letter by hand at least once a week.

I did today I am about sure. I skipped breakfest today for I knew lunch was going to be big. I had pulled pork bbq and some ribs, lettuce and tom's but then I had a pice of choc cake. I wish I did not tho and I knew better for it only made me want more. I could eat the whole cake thank god its not much left of it to yell my name. My kids will finish it off later.

I kind of took the day off from counting carbs but at the same time I don't want to totally over do it.

With carbs and sugar especially it's almost never about what I eat in that sitting its about the cravings that it starts up.

I've found that its just easier to not eat carbs period when I'm doing this. I can live without chips, bread, even candy for a year. The way I feel about myself after kills my diet for the whole day.

Those chips are murder!!!!!! I've been down that road more than once.. (and still do on occasion).

I try and order a fajita ala carte - Just the sizzle plate with the meat, peppers and onions and no rice, no beans and no tortillas. Sometimes they'll ask if I want a salad in place of it and that's good - or I'll order a salad.

Now you know for next time - have the basket of chips as far away from you as possible, and tell the waitperson that you don't know what to call it, but you want meat, cheese, sour cream and salsa on lettuce. Or something similar. Pick out the pieces of things that you want and ask for them, rather than a predetermined dish. Or, as CoffeeKisses said, ask for something with a salad instead of rice and beans. it helps if someone there speaks, or at least understands, English.

And Lady, if you only ate three days' worth of carbs at one sitting, you are so not top of the list when it comes to blowing it! (Not that I'm advocating a contest to see who is, you realize!)

Thanks for the cautionary tale. I love Mexican food, but I don't eat meat so dining out for it is hard to work back in. I eat fish occasionally, so finding a fish or shrimp dish that I will eat is my one solution.

I occasionally make low-carb nachos at home. Not up to adding beans to them yet, still down at under 40 g of carbs per day. Thank goodness for avocados!

My go to's are carne asada, salad please instead of rice and beans, no chips, no tortillas and yes on the sour cream and guacamole. That or the bacon wrapped prawns!

Yeah, it could- that's why I'm not beating myself up too badly. I knew if I went in there I'd get into the chips, sigh. I perused the menu for a bit and aside from the $20 fajitas nothing came without the tortillas and the majority of that stuff is fried. I could have had a deep fried chimichanga with beans and rice. 3 6" taco with iceburg, a sprinkle of cheese and a few diced tomatoes isn't the end of the world, Pretty much the chips I'm lamenting.

A friend took me to lunch at a Mexican place- OMG, I had chips what I figure was the equivalent of 4 corn tortillas, then 3 tacos. They aren't very big but. . . I added it together on my tracker when I got back- I just ate 3 days worth! Throw apples, stones whatever at me then I'll move on. emoticon
