I usually keep an Atkins shake or one of the low carb protein ready to drink shakes in my car trunk. If I'm out and get in a bind, I can get a cup of ice at a fast food, pour the shake in it and stir and have a ready made meal. They usually have a minimal charge for a cup of ice, but it's worth it.

I go a lot, and often end up needing something quick and portable. I don't do well with the bars.

I keep a few ready to drink shakes on hand -- pure protein 35, rtd51, muscle milk 100, or Atkins - easy to grab a cup of iced coffee, mix in a shake, and have a latte.

I also have a couple of brands of powdered mixes I really like. Dymatize Elite (117 Cal, 24 pro and 2 Carb.) - I often add half a cup of unsweetened almond-coconut milk to make it creamy., Stntrax Matrix -- love the orange cream. The ones that are the most convenient are the Syntax Nectar on-the-go packets -- 100 cal 23 pro., 0 carb-- individual servings, mix easily, and taste wonderful mixed with straight water. They also make a pretty, colorful drink to ice up and carry around at a party.

I generally try to stay away from processed food as much as possible, but I think an Atkin's bar or shake is a step ahead of a doughnut or a McMuffin, so I will have the Atkin's products now and then if I am REALLY in hurry.. I will also use Jillian's weigh protein -- I like that it uses Stevia. On occasion, I will have AdvantEdge Carb Control Shakes. However, I would never use these processed foods on a regular basis. Nothing beats REAL FOOD for the health of your body!

Many thanks to everyone! I knew there was a vitamin store up the road, I thought it was Vitamin World, but ended up being Spring Street Vitamins. I did buy some whey protein and today will be day one of a shake for breakfast and lunch. Hopefully, this will jump start me. I feel miserable, and need to get back on track! So away I go...
I hope everyone has a Great Week and an Awesome 4th!

I do protein shakes quite often, most always at breakfast and often for one other meal as well. I use "Precision Engineered Whey Protein Isolate". A shake has 130 calories, 30 grams protein, 1 gram net carb (3 grams carb if you don't do net) They are very good... I keep the chocolate here, but won't buy more chocolate only because I can add Hershey's cocoa to the vanilla, so then would only have to have one container. I use the vanilla mostly, sometimes adding some strawberries, raspberries or blueberries. Although they are good with no added flavors. They make a strawberry flavor, however, I don't care much for that unless you'd add strawberries, so I just buy the vanilla. You have to buy a 2# container, but it will keep forever. And they're about $30. for that. but that's for about 28 servings, so it's not expensive when you look at it that way.

Sometimes I'll even add some raw spinach, kale, cooked broccoli or other veggie I happen to have around - of course, I use a blender to whiz it all together...

I get it at Vitamin World, you can order from them online too if there isn't one in your area.

I like the Jay Robb brand of whey protein. I get it at Vitamen Shoppe. He's into really natural ingredients like Stevia sweetener. Taste great - but the directions say to mix it with 12 ounces of water, but it is much better with just 8 ounces. He has vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and orange dreamsicle flavors.

I only use them if I haven't met my protein needs for the day.

I use the Atkins shakes regularly. The bars and snacks stall me, but the shakes are fine (for me). I won't use the EAS at all, because it's soy-based, and I spend too much on supplements to have their uptake blocked by the antinutrients in soy.

I also use whey protein drinks (powders), but they're higher in carbs than the Atkins, so that's not a regular thing.

When I disgustedly quipped to my endocrinologist that perhaps I ought to just quit eating at all and just live on the Atkins shakes until I get where I want to go, he said, "well...you could do that." I'm sure it was mostly tongue-in-cheek...but still. He quite clearly doesn't object to replacing meals with those shakes.

As with so many things low carb, you just need to experiment to see what works for you.

Dana Carpender, in her book "How I Gave Up My Low Fat Diet and Lost 40 Pounds" includes a recipe for making your own meal replacement shakes.

I hope you will be successful, but for me I just can't be using processed foods. They are not filling, they don't require chewing, one condition for feeling satisfied, they still have too much sweetener, even non-caloric to keep the habit going. To me they are like smoking light filter cigarettes for a smoker. They keep the carb/sugar habit going.
If you like liquid nutrition I would go to plain yogurt blended with 1/2 cup of frozen berries, nothing else added except maybe some coconut oil.

I don't know about anyone else, but I like drinking the Atkin's Strawberry/Banana shakes. They are low in carb. I do not use any of their snacks or 'bars', but I do occasionally eat one of their low carb meals. Not sure if this helps you or not. lol

I know the meal replacement shakes are not a real fan favorite on this forum, but I'm going out on a limb here, and I'm going to ask anyways...I know that some of you are bound to use these at least periodically. So, for those of you who do use these, which are your favorites? There is a girl at my work who uses Body by Vi, which seems to be lower carb, but it is also more expensive and not just something you can pick up at the store. I've have fallen off the low carb wagon once again and my plan is to try the low carb shakes for breakfast and lunch and then have a sensible low carb dinner. I know, I know, this is probably not recommended, but I have to do what I have to do to try to get back on the horse again...and this idea seems fairly doable for me. I know it can't be for the long run, but I'm hoping it will jump start me to get back on track...
Thanks Everyone!
