I read that myself not too long ago but in the morning I'm right in it again. I am going to cut back some though just because I'd rather get those calories from something better- it fills me up so dinner is usually smaller and I wake up hungry.

I remember hearing that alcohol stops ketosis temporarily.

I track because I need to look at what I'm eating or I will forget (like when I forget to write down a check card transaction. . .). I don't really watch the calories, I just happen to notice when I'm looking at the fat/protein/carb ratio.

As long as it looks good I don't much care what it weighs but I can SEE the 5-6 pounds that are stuck right smack over my tummy and love handles. All of it is right there- I have no fat in other places. I'm guess this is a combo of age, past diet and (gulp) beer. I know, my bad, I just like it and that is sort of what my neighborhood does- sit on our decks, neighbors decks, porches, boats, beaches, cabins etc. with beer. I did switch to Michelob Ultra- that helps.

I'll start moving more and mess around with ratios a bit and see where it gets me.

Thaks everyone!

I'm experiencing a stall. I track and just looked back to see how long. At the end of April I was 1 pound more than at the end of May. And right now I'm 2 pounds heaver than at the end of May. So I guess my stall is less than a month long crying out loud, exasperation month.

I've been holding my ketosis from .4 to 1.2 for two weeks. I have not been tracking calories because it was working w/o that burden. Today I'm motivated to get back into the grove so I'll be tracking every day while holding the K level.

VENT VENT VENT...so glad you let me talk this out.

type with you later. Junebug

Yes, eat , enjoy, move a healthy amount, maybe add a little strength training AND THROW THE STUPID SCALES IN THE TRASH. emoticon Sorry for yelling. emoticon
The scales are irrelevant because it does not distinguish between body fat and muscle mass.
You want to have healthy body composition to be able to enjoy your life, not make a certain number on the scale your purpose in life. If you can enjoy all activities that you want to do you are probably good where you are. If your bloodwork is good as well then all is good. emoticon

Here is my deal. I will not eat less. I love to eat. So, when I started this diet, I made a promise. To eat, enjoy, and accept my weight.

I hear you! My set point seems to be 200. I can't get under that. Much better that you come here and vent than that you take it out on food!

Lucy- thank you, I'll look the book up.
Teresa, it could be the sodium, despite the fact I don't tell the tracker of any additional salt I still always run over. I think I'm getting enough water- 98% of the time I get 8 glasses plus but still wake up thirsty in the morning- that made think I was washing the sodium through.
Coffee- my protein stays fairly consistant but I might try actually taking some out and see what happens. Quite a few of the articles I've read say .5 grams for each pound of healthy body weight; so, at what I want to wiegh, that's about 75 grams and I go from there to 105 per day. I'll try that and then add some fat. This too shall pass (I hope).

I just finished reading a book called "Body Confidence" by the guy who developed the Venice Nutrition system, and he talks a lot about how to get your body past those set points. It's too complicated to try to explain here (and the book's at home and I'm at work!), but basically he spreads caloric consumption out over the whole day in six small meals and balances fitness in along with it. You might want to read the book - I think it is one of the most balanced approaches I have ever read.

I am with Teresa - I will not lose by eating all the right things if there's too much of it going in! I am trying his system and so far I like it. I also like that I can adapt his recommendations to my own preferences. He does include complex carbs in his nutrition plans, but it's pretty low compared to a lot of others. He talks a lot about stabilizing blood sugar and then reworking your plan when you hit a set point.

Could it be your sodium intake? You may also have to lower your calories about 200 or 300 for a few weeks and see what happens then. Some of us just cant eat 1500 calories and lose. To lose for me I have to eat around 1200/1300 or less then a day at 1400/1500 and that't with my carbs LOW.
They say its a matter of burning off more calories then you take in but man its so hard to get our bodies to burn off more than we take in most of the time even if the calories are low.

This is the link to the Atkins website. even tho I dont fully do it the atkins way anymore I do still eat from the atkins food list/eat. I just count carbs different than they do.

Maybe up your protein and fats for a bit? I know sometimes I have to cut out sugar free gum and breath mints when I have a stall, up my water and cranberry tea and cut back on coffee temporarily.

Stalls are the worst but weight fluctuations are so normal, especially for women.

I know it's just a stall but it is so frustrating to do (almost) everything right and not have the darn scale budge! I have been dealing with the same thing for years. I've developed a set point and simply cannot stay under 150. Last week I was 146. something, with this heat I suspect I was a bit dehydrated. Within 3 days it was back up. Sunday was official weigh in and it was right at 150 AGAIN. I'm in ketosis. The majority of carbs I get are from vegetables, I seldom go above 1500. I sit at work but do get up and move around, I use stairs all day instead of the elevator. I live up 2.5 flights of stairs. I do walk the dog (some days more than others). and still. . . thanks- I just had to vent. emoticon
