I like the whey protein shakes, too. I use Designer Whey brand (which is incidentally the same brand our Dr. uses). I don't add fruit, although I love fruit, because the sugars really run the carb count up. I used to make the shakes with almond or coconut milk, which still tastes better to me - but again, runs the carbs up. Instead, I add some sugar-free DaVinci syrup to the mix, and it tastes yummy! DaVinci makes an incredible array of flavored syrups. I love the blueberry or pancake syrup, or banana...German chocolate cake... lots of delectables. And no carbs. =D
If I go for fruit, I eat a small portion of it straight up, and let my protein shakes stand alone.
