Thank you for answering Budgetmaw. I am actually doing South Beach, but I can't seem to get the veggies with low carbs down. I have read about the first two induction weeks in the South Beach Diet book.
I guess I can go to atkins for allowable veggies also. Thank you for the websites and the Induction Challenge Forum on Sparkpeople. I don't know my way around this website except for recipes and tracking my daily food intake.
I love veggies and will research this. Thanks again.
Sarah Jo, since you mentioned Induction, I assume you're doing Atkins? Have you read the book? Or at least the Atkins website? If you haven't, please do, so you know not only how to do it but also why. It's important!
As to veggies, there is a whole list of veggies you can eat during Induction. Two lists, in fact, with some versions of Atkins. If you don't have the book, go to the Induction Challenge Forum here on this team, then go to the Rules of Induction thread. Read the first two posts there. You'll need to click on the "sort first post on top" tab at the top of the posts. The first post is a list of the rules. The second is a link to the Atkins website where there is a list of the allowed foods.
Suzanne, if that last msg was for me, I know you are not telling me how to eat. I'm sorry if I said something to make you think I thought that. No way!! lol I rely on your and others experiences because a lot of you are 'veterans' at this! BTW, I'm not going to drink the V-8. I think the acid or something in it doesn't like me. I seem to remember now that when I used to drink it, I always got canker sores. :) Not going to eat bread either. Going to just do what I've been doing (low carb). It works for me! Oh, and I lost another pound. It's slow, but steady and even finally saw that I have lost an inch off my butt! For REAL this time! lol My trainer can just do what he believes is right/healthy, but low carb has always worked for me and I plan on staying on it. Have been, more or less, for over 10 yrs! So why stop now!? Smiles! Tks again for the advice, Suz! I really appreciate everything I learn from you and the others on here.
Suz...I haven't been eating any fruits, because of that sugar! But, I've read that several people on here ARE eating fruits. Plus, if I remember correctly, after induction, you are allowed some fruit. I don't eat carrots (raw or cooked), but my trainer said that I could because they were healthy. However, I don't like them cooked. So I was going to eat them raw as snacks. But, I think I'm going to stay LC and do healthy the way he is suggesting. I also don't eat many tomatoes or raw onions either. I DO like some in my salads and with my burgers, but I count the carbs for them in my daily carb count. I have kept my total daily carbs to 20, so it can't be them. And, that V-8 I drank yesterday and today...I think it gave me a canker sore on my lip from all the sugar and potassium or something!! LOL Thanks you all for your help thru this little bit of a confusing time.....

No, I don't think I NEED breads. I can live without them or make 'Oopsies' if I want a roll to put my burger in now and then. My trainer said that they were healthy for me. I don't think I will eat them. I've done very well without them and have only had a biscuit or two when I go out for dinner...if I feel the NEED. Knowing the consequences, of course. However, I don't think I'm even in Ketosis cause my ketosticks are not showing that I am. A long time ago, I was turning them purple, so I knew I was 'IN", but now that I'm older..they are not working for me due to a body change or something maybe. I am losing, but slowly.
As far as fruits, I see on here that a lot of people are eating fruit. That's why I asked which ones are best for me. I think Strawberries and watermelon are supposed to be ok, in small quantities. And, yes, I did read the Atkins book quite a while ago, and have tried to re read it when I've had the time. Been mostly picking things up from the people on here. However, I will get it out tonight and read it more.
Lady, why might you eat bread? I'm not saying that you shouldn't, but just asking you to be sure you know what your reason is. If it's just because your trainer told you too, I'd say skip it. If it's because you really really want it, then that's your decision, but be aware that you may be adding enough carbs to kick you out of ketosis, and there are a lot of folks who think that grains are inherently toxic to humans. If it's because you think there is some nutrition that you are currently missing that you can only get from grains, I think you may be wrong about that.
Bottom line, it's your decision, but just be sure that you know why you are doing it and that the advantages of doing so outweigh the disadvantages TO YOU.
Actually, I have been pretty ok without having the bread. Now and then, if i go to Red Lobster, I want one of their cheddar biscuits, but I don't go there very often. So I don't think it will 'set' me back very far for having one! So, if those veggies I like (except the corn & beets) are ok, I will eat more of them. What about fruit? and, walking/jogging on the treadmill, and the machines/strength training at the gym only? No cardio? I would think that cardio would be important in revving up my metabolism in order to burn the fats. Maybe I will check out that book to see what he is talking about. Tks!
Jicama?? Never heard of it. Can you get that at the grocery store? Would that be acceptable to eat instead of the skin off a Granny Apple do you think?
Suz///I know I can't be on the fence and I was happy with the LC, but the inches weren't coming off. I've been working out for about 6mos and I think I've only lost a half inch off my waist and maybe some from my face! I was getting discouraged, despite the fact that I was still losing weight (slowly, but still losing). I wasn't giving up, but it sure had gotten me down that one day! lol However, he said that the reason was probably because when I lost some fat in say...my hips...the muscle I was adding there, filled in that spot...hence, so inch loss seen. I looked again at the V-8 and there are zero fats in it, high in potassium, 8 carbs, and about 6 or 7 sugars. Didn't see all that sugar on there! I have already told him that my 'kitchen' is low carb and I cannot throw everything out the window right now. lol To make him happy, I will try to eat more veggies and fruits. Are we allowed any fruits? Even Dr.Oz said we could have whole grain bread, which is what my trainer wants me to eat now and then. Although the other trainer says HE, personally, stays away from breads all together like most of us do.
DPRIM...I do like some veggies...celery, lettuce, onions, garlic, tomatoes, raw carrots, beets, corn, cukes, grn/red bell peppers, coleslaw(?), and I'll even eat snow peas and fresh snap beans. I just don't like spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, squash, lima beans, cooked carrots..things like that. I know we can't have corn or beets, but along with a multivitamin..shouldn't eating more of those that I DO like be sufficient?
I've had him step up his training and work me harder so that I break a sweat!! like on that Biggest Loser show! lol Of course, that's tv and another world! :) I just wonder, though, if it would hurt me to throw in a whole grain multi grain piece of bread once a week or an apple or a few pieces of watermelon now and then.
For now, I am still low carbing it, but I will try to eat more fruit and veggies so he's happy. I'll even eat the Turkey Burgers...but, will alternate them with my fatty regular ones! lol
Well, my Friday is not starting with enough work to keep me busy all day! I'm going to do some data entry work (mindless, boring, set-up stuff...) and then, since I have to meet the G.M. from the Danish home office here on Saturday morning (grrr...), I may go home and take my dogs for walk! One of my biggest concerns in taking this job was that I would NOT be sitting around with nothing to do. Yup, I'm talking myself into a short work day!

You cannot sit on the fence. Ladywindspirit, you are either low carb or low fat. You need to pick a plan. You cannot do low carb and drink v8. If you really understand and believe in low carb, you will not be convinced by this trainer. I wouldvre read taubes and remember why I picked lc.
The sun is out here, sort of, which is nice after a couple of days of rain. Which, don't get me wrong, we desperately needed! But, as of last night anyway, high today is supposed to about 50, after high about 80 on Wednesday. I keep wanting to have someone come over and get my gardens into shape since I can't carry anything at the moment (they need some compost, manure, etc. put on them), but I want to wait and make sure that I will be able to take care of them this summer. My knee and leg were much better for the past couple of days, but bothering me again today.
Scrambled eggs for breakfast, probably cream of broccoli soup for lunch, and a taco salad made of a Spanish Rice sort of thing from the freezer over lettuce and with some salsa. That's cauli-rice, of course, not the other kind!

Good morning! It's grocery-shopping day, so I am racing around so I can get out the door. It's CHILLY outside today in Portland metro; I hope the sun comes out again soon (which is like, 50/50 here on any day of the year *Grin*). Have a good Friday!
Advice is what we ask for when we already know the answer but wish we didn’t.

Good Morning! It's a very rainy, dreary day here at the beach!! It's hard to drum up some motivation to go out in it to get to the gym at 11am! lol but, I will!!! I'm just glad that the warmer weather gets back for good, and that these are just April Showers to bring out the flowers! lol My trainer is trying to get me to eat 'healthy', meaning that (of course) he doesn't like the low carb plan. I told him that I will try to incorporate more fruits and veggies in it..at the very least..by drinking some V-8 juice..which he says I should have to replace the veggies I can't stand to eat! :) Wants me to eat Turkey Burgers as well. My daughter likes them, but I have not tried them before. So I will at least give them a shot, but I will not just throw out all my frozen, fatty, regular burgers!!! LOL Anyway, after my workout this morning, nothing much on the agenda for this afternoon. So I might get a bit more Spring cleaning done inside. At least that will be exercise and I won't be sitting on my butt all day!! Have a good one!
Hey all I've got a long drive today in order to do a one hour store! I'm down 4 lbs of the 12 I gained on vacation! Feeling great! I write 2 new blogs last night and did a review of Jason seibs book The Paleo Coach, if you want up read it it's at confusedandgassy.wordpress.com. If you do let me know what you think .im trying to improve my writing. Have a great weekend!
