making cookies for you was VERY nice.....usually I get carrots. My boss is always so proud...."I brought donuts for the office and hey, Rhonda, I bought you some carrots!" LOL

of course it's sweet to think of me at all, but low carb cookies would be WAY better!

Doh! I forgot to put my checks in the team goal!! sorry, don't thing I could do a really accurate count by memory.

I think my habits are really changing, and I was home for most of May so it was good to be in more routine. I think it helps me :)

I didn't stay true to induction today but still earned a check for my old rules. A friend of mine made me low carb cookies because she was coming over for lunch!!! soooo sweet, I felt loved !!!

I had just headed down to the cafeteria to look for a side for my lunch and was very unenthusiastic about my choices, which always leads to trouble later in the afternoon. I ended up getting a cold veggie salad to go with my cold chicken salad. Meh. It wasn't until I got back to my desk that I realized that I hadn't packed the chicken salad after all, but a nice seasoned chicken thigh, which I can nuke. Yay! I really craved something hot today! Lunch is saved!!!

Hope you're all finishing May on a high note. I still do stickers on my work calendar for doing my isometrics and walking and I have a full month of them for the second month in a row (my couple of bad days this month were home-related). They're plain gold stars these days, but they still make me smile.

Happy Last Day of May, y'all!!

Maw, glad you finished, and I'll bet you did great - that sounds like it was not just a big paper but also a huge project!!

I'm ending May with a dog walk (shortly, but both dogs went back to bed! Wimps...) and then I'm off to my favorite client's office to 'tune up' (his words) his bookkeeping and then I head for the other office where the ginormous mess awaits...

I have no food prepard other than a small piece of tilapia in the fridge that has truly lost its appeal. I'm going to thaw something before I leave today because I know I'm going to come home exhausted but with excess brain noise in my head - that used to be symptoms for Drive Thru Sedation.

I got the paper done and turned in on time. I think it's mostly ok except that I got so caught up in the project part of it (we had to "build" a branch library, including coming up with the floor plan, how much it would cost, how many books and of what kind (kids, adult, teen, fiction, non-fiction, etc.), staffing needs and how much they would be, etc.) that I forgot about the paper part of it (like quotes and references) until the very end. I got in some references, but no quotes. Ooops. Oh well. And then my printer ran out of ink and for some reason the brand new cartridge I put in doesn't work. But the printer at school did.

Haven't eaten meals the last couple of days, but ate way too much. But at least it was all low carb stuff.

Good luck with that paper, Maw!

I'm thinking I'll get my bandages off tomorrow, I had DH take a picture of the wound (since it's on my back and I can't see it) and it's looking pretty good! Looking forward to a hike or two this weekend!

Also planning to get a serious haircut tomorrow evening, should lose a pound! LOL

had a crockpot bbq pork roast for dinner with some broccoli salad....I figured out I could blanch the broccoli florets just a minute in boiling water to take off the 'raw' taste that I didn't like and now I think I'm addicted!

DId OK today - could have done more walking, but I went out for lunch and got some extra rambling in. Did really well on daytime meals, average on evening.

Good going, Leslie! Glad that all that slogging paid off!

Maw, you sound like me - hope the paper comes together smoothly!! I'll send you good vibes... (I got perfect scores on mine so maybe that can all waft your way too!)

Crystal, I hope Jack doesn't keep jumping after his arrival... LOL If he's an extra bouncy kind of kid I guess you'll know why!

I'm wiped out - went to the job today and work hard and intensely on the horrendo mess. Need to find something to eat... Tomorrow is my favorite client in the morning and then back to the job in the afternoon. I have not yet turned to a drive-thru for 'nutrition' or sedation, but I can see that I really need to get my act together on food planning!!

those are called box jumps in crossfit, Kris....starting low is good! I tried a few on a fallen log while hiking a couple of weeks ago, but it was a little too high so they turned into step ups instead of jumps!

I'll go ahead and post the new challenge thread so we can start getting ourselves organized for June 1 and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's May wrap ups over here!

I am "in" for June. Instead of jumping jacks I will be jumping on to a curb. When i first started Spark I could NOT do ONE jumping jack, now I can do 30-50!!! So, It can be done- DO IT- think positive!!!! I don't know what jumping on a curb is called, will come up with a name. I hope by the end of the month my "curb" can be taller!!!!

I find myself (annoyingly) grateful to a @#$%&* who was in front of me in traffic today. I had gone over my carbs, and was going to hit McD's for more, but got trapped in the wrong lane trying to get around this person. Couldn't get back over, didn't stop. So the damage was minimized.

I don't quite know how to feel about it.

Rhonda, I LOVE the Jump into June idea and I could really get into the jumping jacks thing - modified or not. I might do regular ones until the date got too high (hahaha) and then switch to one of the modified versions. I had no idea they could be modified and almost killed myself trying to keep up with Jillian Michaels on her 30 Day Shred DVD...

I like the idea of using dates because it does not require me to do any additional thinking or calculating - I am all thought out.

I like "Jump into June" and the jumping jacks challenge! I would have to modify because of my knees but I'm in if we are doing it! We do jumping jacks in the pool on Aqua Zumba days so I can always do them in the pool when I can. That's at least 2-3 days a week, more if possible. All exercise is better in the pool! That's my motto!

I did fine yesterday, I'm going to finish out this month strong!

If you think you can't do jacks (or star jumps), please watch the low impact version video! You can do it!! (Crystal - you were totally on my mind when I added the video!) Folks could even do jacks seated in a chair - just do the arm part!

However, if y'all think a two part challenge (individual and group) is too much, we can just stick with our regular 'personal' goals....it's just an idea!

Back to work today after an extra long weekend visiting with DD. She's back at school - sad!

Cooked up meatballs, chicken and a pork roast yesterday to eat on this week - hoping to get my bandages off tomorrow - trying to finish up May on a high note!!

I like the Jumping Jack idea :) in the UK we call them star jumps. Crystal, you could stand there and raise your hands, skip the jumping part! :D I am so happy you are doing so well in your pregnancy!

I am doing well, full of hope, inspiration and determination. I have a roast in the slowcooker and I'm going upstairs to do my strength training.

I agree, Kris, start slow and your knees will thank you!

I hope to be back at it soon, Melinda! Hopefully will get my bandages off this week! Congratulations on finishing week 1!!! You rock!!

What if we do the "Jump into June" and do a Jumping Jack challenge in addition to our own personal plans!?!?!? Do one jack on the first, two jacks on the second, three jacks on the third - until we do thirty one jacks on the thirty first!?!?! You don't have to do them all at once, break them up into sets if you want to....and the low impact version counts!!

Here's a good video of the low impact: www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNssa8g3GEc

And here's a higher impact, chair assisted version: www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XxeBUnvjW0&featur

Kris, I never thought I would run, my husband talked me into a 5k in 2005, at 40 years old. He bought me a watch and started me off jogging for 30 seconds and walking for 2 minutes, and it was very pathetic! I went early in the morning because I was embarrassed at how slow I was. It really was a shuffle, my feet barely cleared the surface! but somehow the shuffle made me work harder then walking. I remember the first time I completed a whole mile in a morning :) but I did actually go to the 5K and he ran with me the whole time, I told him he could just walk (he walked faster then my shuffle) but he was soooo sweet and kept up a pretense of a jog and stayed right next to me! He is not one of those sentimental mushy types so it was really nice of him! and somehow that encouragement set me free to grow, and now I do actually jog :)

I'm glad I did it, and the way I 'shuffle' is so gentle, and I don't put many miles on, so I haven't had any injuries. But I would definitely go slow if you have knee problems! You could do a fast walk/slow walk thing instead of a walk/jog thing too :) and still follow the program.

I am wiped out from the intensity of writing this weekend (I already got a grade on the big case study - 100 out of 100! Whew!), and I did not sleep well at all. I have to do some household chores today and a couple of errands, but I'm actually going to try to skip the dog walk if they'll let me. I feel like I need some down time and a slow pace!

I don't want to wish my life away, but I'm ready for June... LOL This team is amazing and has been a huge source of guidance and strength in a really exhausting, crazy time of my life!!

Jane, that is one of the reasons I joined this team, I was searching the boards looking for peeps who had quit sugar ... and noticed that all the low carbers had really apealing weight tickers :)

I have done well today, other then falling to the 'only a little' lie regarding popcorn, but very happy, still under 20 carbs and re-starting induction. I want a clean 2 weeks.

Rhonda, are you well? I think it was you who couldn't exercise because of a nasty spider. I just finished week 1 day 3 of couch to 5K, I have a lovely brittish accent on my phone who tells me when to run :) I hope you are able to join in the fun!

I just wanted to make an observation. I am on another team that is very active and so happy to have found this one that is also active. Here's one difference I just noticed this morning. I was looking at all the tickers and on this team the majority are in the middle or closer to goal. On my other team (which is not low carb!), most of the tickers are still hanging around the far left of the ticker. We should be proud of ourselves for hanging in there and being on the winning side of losing!!

Jane: I think there are a few of us ready to put May behind us and get a fresh start. But, on the bright side there are also a few who have done really well!

When does June start again? Because I need a restart pretty bad! Yesterday I started out with a small portion of mac&cheese and ended with another portion of mac&cheese with other bad stuff in between! I'm up a couple of pounds this morning on top of the 1 I gained Saturday for a total of 3 up this weekend. So no checks for me for 3 days! I have been straying farther and farther away from plan so I decided to go back to induction for a couple of weeks to get my head together.

Rhonda, that sounds like a wonderful day!

Took DD out for browsing in our favorite thrift/antique stores and found a great loveseat for her new apartment - yay! Got a lot of walking in and had good fun!

sauteed some squash and grilled ribeyes for dinner - plenty left for lunch tomorrow!

Happy Memorial Day, everyone!

The AA Big Book talks about the addiction to alcohol as a physical allergy and the result of that allergy was mental, all about rationalizing. So that is how I think of my sugar addiction. It is an allergy that not only brings back my physical craving but my rationalizing ... or should I say irrational, hehe, it causes my compulsive eating. When I quit sugar I found relief for the first time! and LC has helped me so much to keep it under control. I have felt so free, and I thank God for that freedom. But I also recognize that some of my over eating comes when I am too tired, too 'whatever'!

Anyway, change of subject;

My wagon was a lot smoother ride when I was allowing myself 100 NC each day, but I find that isn't low enough to keep my blood sugar down. 20 per day is tougher, but it's what I need to do.

When I get the urge to eat something carby, my thoughts are all about how much I've enjoyed it in the past, wouldn't it taste great now. Somehow, at those times, I never think about how it's going to affect me aside from the immediate pleasure, or if I do, I slough it off with the thought that it will all be over soon. Then I get stuck on the "just one more will only put the restart off another hour/ two hours/day etc.".

I talk myself into falling off the wagon.

My wagon is sort of easy to stay on, since I'm not that strict. I'm just commiting to posting my carbs, and a few light exercises. It will be much harder once I'm trying to loose this baby weight and I go more strict.

68 g carbs
walked over 2 miles
did labor prep

Too true about staying on the wagon. It's just such a bumpy ride sometimes, like off-roading. If you don't wear your seatbelt, you're apt to bounce out of your seat and lose control.

I just need to figure out what would make a good seat belt.

Well, I'm back on the LC wagon today... This has been an exceptionally frustrating weekend for me - I feel trapped in school and writing while everyone else is having a holiday and playing! It's not a pity-party, but just a sense of being stuck! I know that's not true, but I think I vented the frustration with food... Today I am eating light (less volume than I have been programmed to think I need) and all good stuff.

Yup, I'm with Maw - jumping on the wagon is easy, it's staying on it that's the hard part! I do not want to tie myself on with a seatbelt - I want to stay on the durn wagon because I'm happier there!! Freedom of choice, intuitive eating, and all that... I think I'm going to freeze some of the servings of noodle-less lasagna I made and thaw some hamburger. Somehow ground beef is ALWAYS satisfying when other foods fall short.

And back to writing I go...

P.S. REDLOVR, I admire your strength - I would just haul that can of toffee almonds within reach of my laptop and chow on them 'til they were gone!! Glad the protein candy thing works for you! LOL

I started something new yesterday. Since I heard that eating some protein 30 minutes before a meal will decrease your appetite, I made some protein candy:-) Equal parts of coconut oil and chopped Blue Diamonds Toffee almonds. Mix the two and place the mixture into a candy mold. Place them into the refrigerator and pop them out of the mold after they have hardened. Eat one or two 30 minutes before a meal. The almonds are sweetened with stevia. Make certain that you store them in the fridge.

Way to go, Melinda!

If we go with the Jump on the Wagon theme for June, can we add something about staying put? It's not the jumping on that's the problem. It's the staying there!

I just made 3 different types of cookies (last night and this morning) for a bake sale at church. This is not good boundaries but I love my son and he wasn't feeling well to make them. BUT I did not even lick my fingers! I am still working on day 3 of no sugar!!! :D

Started induction today

Did well eating today, and got some exercise. I may have overshot the carbs a little (jicama), but i walked for about 70 minutes, so away they go.

Now to bed.

Yesterday may have been an epic failure food-wise, Leslie, but starting back over immediately is an signal sucess!

No check for me because of the cherries, but that's ok. I walked for 25 minutes then walked around the Farmers Market for over an hour.

I'm making herbal tea jello. I've been having a cup of tea with gelatin every morning and every evening because the gelatin is supposed to be very good for you. It's too hot for tea now, though, so I thought I'd see how it works as jello. The other way I usually get lots of gelatin is with bone broth soups, but it's too hot for them, too.
