I have also kept an eye on the recipe section from this team. When I see a recipe that sounds good, I copy and paste into a file on my computer. Then, when I feel like I just cant eat another piece of meat, I can try a new recipe. Currently, I am using the "Rueben Dip" that AggTerr posted awhile back, only instead of putting it into a crock pot, I layer it in a microwave safe dish and use a knife and fork.....Also, spinach or romaine with shrimp or chicken or tuna helps me not feel like I am eating meat all the time. That way, I can use a different salad dressing too. Sometimes add avacado, sometimes, bacon bits,
How about crab meat in your omlette? Or alittle salsa on the chorizo omlette.

Sorry, I am now getting hungry, I need to go make food :)......

Thanks for all the great suggestions Odirom... but.... you made me soooo hungry. I'm thinking I might go pick up some lamb tonight or something... and try one of those butter sauces which sound delicious! emoticon

LOL @Odirom!

Try butter sauces. Butter heated to saute some:

*Garlic
*Sage
*Thyme
*Rosemary
*Shallot
*Lemon and Vinegar
*Ginger
*Cinnamon and nutmeg
*Balsamic
(editors note, each line here is a different sauce, don't throw all this in a pan at once. If you do, you do so at your own risk.)

After you have the butter sauce, pour it over the "normal" meal. The flavor and texture change. It makes for a different meal.

Or mix it up. Fish. Leg of lamb. Beef heart. Ribs. Ox tail. Osso Buco. Braciole! Lamb chops. Sausage...mmmm...ZaaaZeech!!! Sorry, I was salivating there for a moment.

One word: Peppers. Habanero anyone? I am sure it will be a different meal experience when you add THAT to the mix.

In the morning instead of scrambled eggs, add some chorizo. New dish, not boring.

I hear Suz, but I know what you mean about boring. A good steak is always good. But sometimes the doldrums will get to you. That is when you really need to shake your head and think to yourself. "Wait, there ARE a billion different meats and ways to eat them out there." and shoot for different textures and flavors out there. Lets dig in.

O

I have always eaten the same foods over and over without getting bored, so eating steak every night for me is no big deal. Why not change your meat up a bit? Pork ribs, chicken thighs, veal...

I find that sometimes I get sick of the same thing over and over.... Steak and eggs for dinner, egg and lc sausage omelette (w/o milk added) for breakfast, chicken thigh for lunch... That's pretty much all I've eaten daily for the past couple weeks and I see the results, but it gets so boring sometimes. Maybe I'm still over thinking food..

Definitely still over thinking food.

I never think about food. I eat twice a day because I sit down with my family, but I rarely ever feel actual hunger. Now, I love and enjoy my meals, but if something went wrong in my day and I could not eat lunch, I would not notice. This is a total change from my previous life on carbs. My entire day was consumed with thoughts on food, when I was going to eat, how much, what I was going to eat, etc.

I agree, it is so much easier when things are keep simple. I feel fuller when I stick with meat and eggs. Having a side dish of veggies is ok, I like veggies.

When I just eat soup I am sometimes still hungry and I know its because I didn't get enough meat.

I think that maybe some of us (me included) over-think food.. We're looking for this and that and ideas, etc. when we could just eat something on our program and be done with it when the stomach is full. Our reasons for eating isn't always just physical hunger.

Look at Suzanne, she keeps things just real simple and I'll bet food isn't on her mind much unless she's actually hungry and when she's hungry she eats - she's not looking for the extras, the sauces, the varieties, etc. like I do sometimes.......

This seems to be me, at least sometimes, but I am getting more simple with my choices and not trying to overthink a meal. Betty

Thanks everyone! I have noticed that less carbs and a way higher intake of protein makes me so much fuller for longer and I love that. Last year I tried low cal and I hated it. I was always hungry... Thank god for LC...

What I like best about eating meat and eggs is that you don't have to count carbs as long as you don't add sauces/toppings.

I wish you the best with your journey into learning what will help you and work for you.

I think you have to find what works for you. On day's I eat zero carbs, other day's I eat way under 20 & 2 day's out of the wk I eat around 30 carbs. Play around with it and find what works for you. As you can see we all have a little difference in what we eat and carb intake. Eating zero carb is not as hard as it seems and as Suzanne has pointed out you actually do not think about food. I myself eat ground meat, chicken, tuna, eggs and natural peanut butter. That is all that is on my menu. Believe it or not but I don't get sick of what I eat.. hope this helps..good luck!!

My food changes all the time, but I go long periods of eating the same food over and over, but I did the same all my life. When I started, I ate eggs, tuna and mayo, chicken, steak, shrimp, pork. Now, I tend to eat all beef. I never eat eggs. I usually have beef ribs or steak or burgers. I also used to drink coffee with cream and equal. But, tonight I am having pork ribs.

Ah that makes a lot of sense. I suppose that's a common misconception about ZC?

Either way, that is very inspiring. I'd like more than anything not to be thinking about food 24/7.

What kinds of foods do you commonly eat?

I have been at goal weight for like 7 1/2 years now. I lost my weight very easily. I was 168 and now around 105. It bounces around a bit, I do not really care what the number is. ZC brings most people to their natural weight. For some, like me, the number is very low. Others to stop losing at a higher weight. Depends on genetics, medical history, how long you have been over weight.
All I know is that I eat and never worry about weight and food anymore. That was all I wanted when I started, to be free from my food addiction. The weight loss was a nice side effect, but I was willing to accept being fat if it meant I could not think about food 24-7 and stop binging.

Dr. Atkins' first book, Diet Revolution, was just meat, eggs and maybe some lettuce since it only has a trace of carbs. I see nothing wrong with eating that way.

Everyone's body is different. Supposedly some of us came from meat eater and some from vegetable eaters. It was what was available way back then. I am sure I descended from the meat eaters. I have heard that the Eskimos were fat eaters from whale blubber. According to what I have heard they have good numbers.

Back in the appendix of Gary Taubes new book is a food list of what to eat - he gives fewer veggies than the general Atkins I think. I'm going to lean more towards just meat and eggs myself... I do think I've gotten a little carried away with the stir fry veggie things - maybe more than I should be having, I'm going to cut it down...

I enjoyed his latest book and learned quite a few things...

Hey all! Great discussion! I've never done just a 'meat/egg' fast, but do tend to have only meat, eggs, and cheese in the morning, with a salad at lunch (with meat), and often just meat for dinner. Usually around 15 carbs per day. I also have found Gary Taubes' new book to be very informative and have considered 0 carbing it for a few days to a week to see what happens. So far 6.8 pounds lost and feeling great!

I just read a blog post from Dr Eades (protein power) where he says go on a meat only diet for no more than two weeks if you are truly 'stuck' for some reason. He really stressed it was a last resort and short term. Guaranteed you'd lose weight though.

I am giving myself two weeks more LC then if I am still stuck at 208 will move to that for a week. I like my veggies to much. It will be hard!

I eat just meat, I used to eat eggs, but not anymore. If you are interested in zero carb you should read Gary Taubes's books, start with Why We Get Fat. He will explain why there are no essential carbohydrates in a human diet. Many people believe this and many people strongly disagree. I do not want us to start arguing the philosophy here. Read the book and make your own choice.
There are a wide variety of LC plans on this board. Find the one that works for you. I do not like to discuss zc here cause it seems to become a heated debate.

I have absolutely no desire to do this myself, but please feel free to try it and let us know how it goes. The suggestion of taking a vitamin supplement (make it low in iron because you are going to be getting enough of that from the meat) is a very good one. I might add that you should seriously consider where you are going to get your potassium, too (maybe get some low-sodium salt to sprinkle on things) or your muscles might start cramping. I also think that you should consider it a way to jumpstart weight loss and as something you maybe do once in a while rather than continuously. My colon could never go without some fiber!

And finally, find a low-carb friendly doctor to help oversee your progress. Please write a few blogs about the progress!

I also believe the body does need vitamins and minerals, so if you do go ZC, consider taking suppliments.

I have never been able to get to the ZC stage, I end up craving carbs and go bonkers.... I guess I just can't get past that ol' carb flu!

Take it day by day and see how it goes.... Good luck whatever you try.

In the fall, I did VLC for about 5 days. Did it again in Jan for a couple days after the holidays. Basically, I ate eggs, meat, 1 oz of macadamia nuts, heavy cream. My goal was 1000 calories, and 80-90% fat. I usually was under 10 gms of carbs, but usually about 1200-1400 calories. The first time, I lost about 7-7.5 lbs. The second I lost about 4. Because I planned my eating for those several days, it was very easy, no choices involved. But, doing it for longer, I would have issues due to the limited menu.

How exactly do you eat zero carb? Do you just eat meat and eggs? And why would you do that? Just curious because I am new to this and am trying to understand all the angles. Thanks

Hi guys!

I was wondering if anyone has tried the Meat/Egg fast (3-5 days) instead of the fat fast and what your thoughts are on it or what your results were.

I'm considering it for the reason that when I was successful with a LC WOE a few years ago, my carbs were only 5-10g per day the entire time. Any other time that I have tried to go LC, I have done true Atkins and have had trouble seeing progress past the water weight.

Any light on the subject would be very appreciated.

Thanks :)
