I'm going to answer the last two questions since I've been out of it for a while...big stressor? Currently the thing that sends me over the edge the most is my kids, especially when I have been saying the same thing for a while and they clearly haven't been listening (We need to be leaving in a few minutes, start getting ready.....you need to get off the computer so we can go soon....I'm leaving now....where the %^&**& are your shoes? I've been telling you for five minutes that we were leaving!!). Hubby is off the hook since he still works overseas - great for marriage btw, lol!
Favorite exercise? I can't pick! I LOVE swimming, but I am currently IN LOVE with the elliptical, especially if I've got good music. Last night I also had my kindle and was totally not watching the time, which made it even better.

I'd have to agree, Mary. I love going for a long walk, or hiking. Zumba is a close second though! The hour just flies by:)

As I seem to have been the last to post a few days ago thought maybe it should be my turn to post a question so here goes:

What is your favorite form of exercise? What could you do for hours forgetting it's supposed to be "working" out?

I'll go first - mine is walking around our local lake - I love to go there. I go alone sometimes but even better is when I can go with a friend and chat our way around the lake. And the best walks? Those with my young son - those walks take a lot longer but we see so many more interesting things when he's there to make me look for them.
(I'll bet you thought I was going to say zumba didn't you? I love that too but not as much as walking.)

I'm with Dugie - My husband. I just realized it. He went on a trip and I felt normal for the first time in ages. When he came back, the anxiety and stress came too. Not that my husband is a bad guy, far from it. I love him. I need to spend some time thinking about this more. I think a lot of it is self imposed stress about being a "good wife." Like I said, I'll have to think about this more. Great question, YCA.

Double bonus points for not killing!!!

My final straw is my hubby. I just feel some days that I can't count on him. He leaves his crap everywhere for me to pick up, I know I should leave it but the OCD in me can't. Plus, I have parents dropping their kids off so I can't let my house be a wreck. My favorite is when I get up to do something and he insists he will do it, then doesn't. Like last night, I always run the dishwasher right before bed. It is one that you have to hook up to your sink. I asked him to move so I could get it hooked up and then I was going to bed. He said he would get it and be right up. I go to bed. I wake up this morning and no clean dishes. Set my entire day off wrong because now I have to wash dishes for breakfast. He does this to me all. the. time. Ugh. I know it probably doesn't sound like a big deal, but he constantly doing this to me. blah.

Tuesday 1/10

I totally hit an emotional wall yesterday. It was ugly, y'all. So it made me think of this...

Do you have one stressor that will push you over your line? We all have very full plates, and a lot of crud within those plates. But is there ONE thing that ices your cake? (and makes you turn to cake?)

Mine is my kids. Yesterday was a really bad day with Red. (He's my 12yo Aspie) He went the whole I HATE YOU route (but with a lot more expletives). By the time I got done dealing with him, I was DONE. (Although, to my credit, I didn't yell or scream, or kill him. I totally got bonus points)

I try not to overthink breakfast. I always eat the same thing - for the past year or so it's been whole grain toast, margarine, and a mocha shake made with 14oz skim milk blended with 2 T unsweetened cocoa powder, 2 T girardelli mocha powder and ice.

My breakfast is 2 egg whites, 1 whole egg, green pepper, onion, mushrooms, a sprinkle of shredded mexican cheese and a tablespoon of salsa.

Now I'm hungry :-)

I'm not nearly as deep as YCA, but I'm willing to throw one out there. What is your favorite healthy breakfast?

Mine has to be an omelet made with two egg whites and one whole egg, a little cheese and spinach or tomatoes (or both, if I'm feeling extra fancy). Throw in some coffee and a piece of fruit, and I'm good to go.

Thanks YCA for the words of encouragement! I think I need to work on saying no more often. and that ADHD thing you were mentioning - I'm all over that! I was just wondering this morning if somehow I'd developed adult-onset adhd but decided that no, just overwhelmed with too many things going on and most of them not fun so I don't prioritize them or I get distracted when I start - I notice that I usually do get the more fun things done and my family does get fed every day and have clean clothing so I'm at least getting some things accomplished. And the 8-10 volunteer jobs I get to do? They get done too - eventually.

Today, I want you to look deep down and think about aspects of your personality you'd like to work on this year. Maybe something you're really not proud of, or something you'd like to make better ...

Me: I want to focus on priorities. I need to stay focused on the most important things that need to be done and not go all ADHD and get dis .... SQUIRREL!!! Yeah ... see?

I'm now changing your name from MaryOh to OH MY MAUDE MARY ....

I've been a GS Leader, my oldest is now in her first year, and kid #3 is in her first year now, and subsequently her first cookie drive. 2 days in to selling and I'm already totally over it.

You're right it is a thankless job. So I'm going to change that RIGHT FREAKING NOW. From every GS Leader on the face of the planet, from every mom, from every volunteer, I want to thank you from the absolute bottom of my heart. Your work is very much appreciated, and I think its great that you take on chair not just for one but for TWO troops of pre-miscreants!!

I love you!!!!!

one thing I could totally walk away from right now? Volunteering - at this point I don't care if the darn girl scout troops get their cookies or not. I'm not quite sure how I ended up as the cookie manager for two troops - probably because no one else would do it and I'd rather do cookies than lead the whole troop - and because I don't think it's fair that the troop leaders (who volunteer also) should have to do cookies too. I'm just cranky and feel like I'm not quite organized enough to do it some days. Although this is my second year doing it and it worked out fine last year - it's just a thankless job.

Yca that sucks. Love ya!

I don't think I can pinpoint one thing right now. I just have an overall feeling of dread and irritation. I feel taken for granted by every person in my life. I swear, if Hubby leaves one more mess for me clean up in the morning,. I may hurt him. That along with my FIL's health, my middle kid's behavior problems and the ever growning stack of bills that I can never seem to catch up on. I may loose it.

Tuesday 1/3

Let's discuss your biggest stressor in life right now - the one thing that is seriously going to make you lose your schmidt. And, let's be serious ... we can discuss how socks never make it into the laundry basket or shoving a brussel sprout up the nostril of the next person that gripes about dinner if you want. But I mean the thing that has you teetering on the edge. The thing that you could seriously look at your situation and walk away from everything that encompasses that situation and not look back, and not care. Kind of like when she sets the car on fire in "Waiting to Exhale". ;)

For me right now, its my parents. They are driving me crazy. It sucks that they have health issues, and it must suck even more to have to rely on other people. But after the day I've had dealing with them ... it isn't going to take much more before I just walk away and never deal with either one of them again. I know it sounds horribly selfish, and maybe even ungrateful ... but I don't have the time, patience, or ability to type out the whole story. I love them .... but I can't be abused by them anymore.

You asked for my number one relationship - and the answer has to be to myself. My relationship to myself impacts everything else I do. When I'm feeling good about myself I'm able to give everyone else what they need too (husband, kids, God, mother, inlaws etc.) When I'm feeling bad about myself then all of my other relationships suffer.

Hubby is #1. He's beyond awesome, even when he's getting on my nerves. I also have a #2, though. The girlfriend who listens to me talk about family stress, celebrates family victories with me, and reminds me to take care of myself (and I do the same for her.)

RRM - You totally could have given us more than one - if you need to talk, TALK!!! Also, I was only able to do it because of kid #2 - she's soooo awesome and helpful :)

Dugie ... Don't kill hubby, its illegal. And then you'd have the kids all to yourself, and none of us want that. What can we do to help?

(I'll post today's question this afternoon, give everyone a chance to answer yesterday's first lol)

I think the moon must be in the, "wake up late and run like a freaking maniac with the kids" phase today! I had 35 minutes and only two kids. I forgot the milk on the table. A almost full gallon. Argh. I have no idea how you did it in 20!

I just typed out this long thing, then realized that you only asked for one thing. One thing...I want to be more present with my husband. He often gets the "leftovers" of me by the end of the day.

Monday 1/2

[Yes, today's question is late because my alarm didn't go off so instead of having an hour to drink a cup of coffee and get thru all the interwebz, I had 20 minutes to dress myself and 4 kids and throw them in the car. I totally think that should count as my 30 minutes today. *footstomp]

What is the most important relationship in your life, and what is one thing you'd like to do to improve it this year?

Mine is with my sweet hubby. He really is such a good man to me. Our schedule is hectic and frustrates us, but at least he's working and after last year, that is something to be very grateful for. But, there are still times when we go a whole week without spending any time together whatsoever. Tuesday and Wednesday is our "weekend", so we're going to sit down tomorrow night and work out a time for us to sit down every week. It doesn't have to be the same time every week, I think that would be setting us up for failure. Just SOME time, every single week.

Rock, on YCA! You can do it!

I want to spend less time watching tv, and more time being productive. As in, stop watching Friends reruns for the 18th time and read a book, clean the house, take care of the yard, be present with my kids. Nothing too dramatic, but its all in the small steps, right?

And here we are - the first day of 2012! Seems like only yesterday, I was logging back in here and telling people to get ready for 2011. Wow - what a year it has been.

This week's questions are going to be all about goals - because it is all we're going to talk about anyway ;)

Let's start with YOU: what is the one thing about YOU that you want to change, besides losing weight and getting healthy?

Me: I want to learn how to stop letting outside influences affect the decisions we make and start managing our family our way. We tend to let our parents, and unsolicited advice from friends affect us - too much, and when it really isn't needed. And I'm the worst offender it when it comes to my dad. My dad has always been this huge force in my life, he's been there no matter what's been going on in my life, always ready to love me and take care of me, even when I've been in the wrong. My husband, God bless him, is younger than I am and didn't have a lot of life experience, and was more than willing to let me be the strong one in our relationship ... since we've been taking care of my dad, its been easy for me to just do what he "suggests". Even tho it has shot us in the foot more than once. This year, that stops. I'm going to ignore all of my dad's "advice" and learn how to step back and let hubby lead the way more often. I think this will not only give myself some very much-needed peace, but will also sweeten my marriage as well. :)

We're going to watch movies and hang out with the kids. We're such big partiers, right? lol We always opt for a night home, though.
Happy New Year everybody!

We're with family and they keep conspiring to give us a night off. So, hubs and I are trying to find a nice night out in a different (and smaller) town. The only part we know for sure is that we'll be sharing a bottle of champagne with friends.

11 yo is probably a mouse. 9 yo is a prom queen (with or without zombie attachments.) 3 yo is a pumpkin. I was debating wicked witch of the West but I'll probably be Maria von Trapp. My darling husband will probably sensibly ignore the whole thing.

Hubby has an alien mask he might wear. I have cat ears!

DD1 (age 7) is a witch. She made most of the costume herself.
DD2 (age 5) is a bride. Or a pumpkin. Depending on her mood. :)
DS (age 2) is a monkey. The cutest little monkey I've ever seen if I do say so myself. :)

We live in a pretty rural area so we don't get any trick or treaters :-( I do make up little treat bags for my nephew and the little girl i babysit.

New question....

What are you/ your kids/ hubby dressing up as for Halloween??

Jay and I don't usually dress up. I am fairly challenged in the creativity department. I am going to a Halloween party at a bar to see a band Saturay night (Girl's Night Out...yay!!) so I will probably wear cat ears or devil horn or something.

As for the kids the Girl Child is going as a Nerdy Softball player, Bozo is going as a Pittsburgh Pirate Baseball Player and JayBird is going as an Army guy. He has worn the costume every day since we got it!!!

I was thinking of doing those bags of pretzels this year. I also saw packages of rub on tattoos at Walgreens that I thought might be fun instead of candy.

My dang husband did buy a bag yesterday at Walmart. Of course it will be gone before trick or treating even happens.

Agreed, Mary! I usually buy it a few weeks beforehand and eat a ton in advance. This year, I was thinking of waiting until the last minute as well - prices be damned! (I am a coupon & sale shopper).

We usually pass out snickers, twizzlers, m&m's, kit kats, reeces peanut butter cups (my fav).

I won't know what I'm passing out until Halloween day - that's when I buy my candy - otherwise I will be re-buying all 175 pieces of it on that day anyway since I will have consumed all prior purchases before then.

On Tuesday I did a full workout even though I had a scratchy throat and stuffy head. By the end of my workout I felt physically better and the nasty cold that had hubby out of work for three days didn't stick with me.

I like this cheap, drug-free healthcare. No more being a wuss for me.

I can exercise as long as it's just a runny nose. Although I have to say that since I started exercising regularly, I haven't been sick. At least not the way I used to get sick.

If I have a fever then I can't go. Then I need to be in bed. :)

I do try to excercise a bit when sick with cold - it might just be a walk (even a short one) to help clear my head (and chest) I've been known to go to yoga class too. I go to zumba if I don't feel too bad but take it easy. BUT when running a fever I generally stay home and rest. And, if I'm really coughing badly when I excercise I generally stick to walking outdoors so I don't spread it to others at the gym.

Yup. I've beat it first and then added it, and other times I've just cracked it right into the oatmeal and beat it all up like that. I think it's pretty much the same either way. It's pretty good and really gets your protein level up for your breakfast!

I have two go-to breakfasts and a third that I throw in now and then. And once in a while I just have cereal but that is always disappointing.

#1: 1/3 c Oats, 1/2 c Skim Milk, 1 Egg, 1 tbsp Flax Seed, 1 tsp Cinammon, 1 pkt Stevia. Mix all together and nuke for 60-90 seconds.

#2: Fried egg over easy, whole grain english muffin, 1 tbsp country crock w calcium

#3: Whole wheat wrap with salsa, lite cheese, scrambled eggs.

For me it's egg whites and multi grain toast. My body need a protein and a carb to function. Sometimes I will have just egg whites early and then an hour or so later I will have oatmeal. (depends if I have time for 2 breakfasts!)

whole grains - either cereal or toast and two cups of skim milk blended with 1 T ghirardelli mocha powder and 2T plain cocoa powder and ice (cold things don't need to be as sweet - I don't know why but it works for me so I don't question it)

Whole grain english muffin with pb. Plain, nonfat yogurt with fruit, granola, or a tiny bit of spicy hot cocoa. (Greek yogurt has more protein so it keeps me going longer.)

For me right now my breaking point and motivator is pain - injured myself a couple of years ago and if I don't move for a while things hurt (and sometimes a lot.) What's worse is if I've let it get to that point then it's even more painful getting back - but I figure if it hurts if I excercise and hurts if I don't I may as well excercise because eventually it makes it better.

For me it's usually something physical....pants too tight, getting out of breath doing something simple. Then I think "oh crap" better get it together. This time around is health related. I have to have a minor gyne procedure done next month and have to be put under and I'm kinda nervous. I know the less I weigh, the healthier I am and the safer the anesthesia will be.

I'm thinking QOTD implies of the "DAY" so lemme start at least a new one, and maybe re-name it QOTW or something.

Here goes:
Normally do you have a "breaking point" when it comes to getting back on the wagon? What is it?

summer. Not caring. Tired. not wanting to track. I like junk food. I still fit into my clothes. These are the craptastic reasons I've been on the fence.
But the pointy things on the top of the fence hurt and I've got to jump off. Either to the who gives a crap side or the let's do this side.
Well, I logged in today, right? Looks like the let's do this side won.

Let's do this!

Me too...summer did me in. I think in the month of June we were at a baseball field every.single.day. I know I could have packed healthy snacks and used the crock pot but it was just easier to eat junk. I also didn't exercise. I wanted to sleep in and we were busy all day and night. I have gained 12 pounds back!!!

Sooooo...I have been checking in here almost every day and I logged food and worked out a couple times last week. I am trying for the same this week and hoping after the long weekend ahead, to be back in routine and back to sparking full force!!!

I don't know if it's a rut but I certainly have not been about healthy living: no routine or schedule, weeks on the road, kids with me all the time. All that adds up to not wanting to exercise and eating whatever is easy.

One more week until routine takes over again. I'll still have battles but at least the day won't wiggle away from me like jello. (My thighs, on the other, are a different story.) I've been fitting in 10 minutes of strength training a day and starting this week (hopefully! if I can get out there!) I'm going to start training to walk/jog a 5k the week of Halloween. (virtual 5k sponsored by SP. anyone with me?)

Have I been stuck in a rut? Yessirree.
What has been the biggest obstacle? The biggest problem? I think the whole thing. Moving. Job searching. And letting life get in the way. I stopped tracking, stopped exercising, everything. So I sat down and though a bit about it (blog to come) and it seems to have snapped a bit back in place. Got up and did 10 min of pilates - better than 0 - and ACTUALLY TRACKED MY EATING TODAY.
What a concept!
And thus, I am back here, which may have been the biggest problem of all!

OOOOOOOOOKKKKKKKKKK ladies! I'm back.
And it is time for an honest question -
Are you struggling right now with your spark journey?
If so, what is the hurdle you want to overcome the most? If not, what do you think is the number one thing that is keeping you on track right now?

It seems that a lot of us are waffling right now, and I think it is time for some support and some motivation and perhaps the headmistress may reinstitute the regular beatings. But this will hopefully be something good to think about.

Not a big fan of mayo myself...slightly more so for relish, since it is partly pickles, and I like them. Ketchup, though not an option, would be way easier!!
