I weighed in this afternoon at 163.5. There are a few factors that affected my 3 lbs in 1 day weight gain:
1) time of day that I weighed in. Usually this is first thing in the AM, before I've eaten a bite.
2) what I ate yesterday & today. I really enjoyed my meal last night & the country breakfast provided at the B&B.
3) what I drank last night, we had a really good time!

I'll see what I weigh tomorrow & may take that as my starting weight, so I don't have a unfairly high starting weight for January, causing it to look like I lost more than I actually did.

Jennie, do you plan to start a new thread for January?

I'm going out of town & won't have a chance to weigh myself till late in the day tomorrow (I normally weigh in first thing in the morning). I'll still check in with my weight tomorrow, but I just had to share my weight from this morning!

I weighed in at 160.5!!! I'm super excited about it!

I even changed my ticker, though it's to my weekly weigh in day for me. :)

Good luck tomorrow everyone & happy new year!

Ali- I woulndt worry if it is a set point. Supposedly when you reach one - you CAN power thru it you might just plateau but WHEN you do power thru it .... You are wayyyy less likely to ever go above that gain. It helps with permanent weight loss.. Of course its just a theory ... I like science so I read all this stuff! emoticon

Wingless- I LOVE YOUR IDEA!!! I will totally steal it but Ill give you credit! Stay tuned! I got a few other ideas up my sleeve too!

Oh and so for the gain ... Being sick sets your body into panic mode so a gain is not surprising ... good attitude! Youll get rid of it in no time!

Kendra WOOOOHHOOO! I knew you could do it! Just keep pushing harder each day .. yoru body maybe fighting you but you just FIGHT RIGHT BACK!!!

11/30 - 226.6
12/07 - 224.0 (2.6 pound loss)
12/14 - 222.2 (1.8 pound loss)
12/21 - 218 (4.2 pound loss)
12/28 - 221.4 (3.4 pound gain)
01/01

Blargh. I gained back a lot when I got ever being sick. And had an insanely stressful day yesterday. And went a bit over for sodium the last few days...

Yeah, I was expecting that. Still sucks to see it. However, I'm focusing on the good, and reminding myself that I'm still down 5.2 pounds for the month so far. Which is pretty awesome. And I am still losing from the huge boost after getting sick. I went up about 5 pounds right away, and have been bringing myself back down slowly. And I still have a few days to try and pull myself down a bit more.

As for next month, I think adding in some mini-challenges is a great idea. Maybe we would even keep "score" for some things, or hand out trophies at the end of the month. Longest workout streak, most workout minutes, weekly losses, etc. Make mini-goals that help us make more progress towards the 10 pounds goal.

I would say, either trophies for overall "bests" or points along the way for certain things, and then trophies at the end based on points.

Don't want to step on anyone toes (Cramommy), but here's a rough idea that I came up with:

15+ minutes of exercise daily = 1 point
3 strength sessions/week = 1 point
8+ glasses of water in a day = 1 point (up to 5/week)
Post in the January challenge thread = 1 point/day

These all ensure that we're making good, healthy progress towards our goals, help give a little push on days we don't want to work out, give some leeway for "mistakes" (like missing a couple days on water - I know that's one a lot of people struggle with), and the posting ensures accountability AND motivation among ourselves and each other. Total up points either at the end of each week, or the month (or both *grin*), and award trophies/ribbons. Like, maybe ribbons for each week, and then trophies for the month. And maybe an extra goodie for everyone who reaches 10 pounds (like, I dunno, balloons or streamers or something) and maybe an extra thing for the "Biggest Looser(s)" for the month as well.

The team gets a decent amount of goodies each month to use (I'm co-leader on another team), so this should be doable. Also, fun! :)

Feel free to steal the idea, or change it, or ignore it completely and say "Wingless, that's CRAZY TALK!" lol

Thanks for the encouragement, Cra! I did check out the set weight point theory. It's interesting, and hopefully not true! Or if it is true, I hope it's easy for me to set mine lower emoticon

I am due for my TOM in about a week, and I usually put on a couple of lbs due to water weight. Last month when my weight was holding steady before my TOM (and right after Thanksgiving), I freaked out and pushed it hard on my workouts and the results were awesome! I've been doing that the past few days, with today as a rest day (my last one was 12/19).

I'm all for switching things up a bit. I've pretty much eliminated eating out and keep that to 1-2 times a month. I hear ya on Panera! their stuff is really good, but you can also make good choices there too.
A biggest loser style challenge would be good. I'm participating in one starting in January for the parents of children under 2 team. I've never done one before and never really watched the show. I'll be watching this season, now that I'm a Jillian fan!

Cra, sorry you were sick but losing 4 pounds in a week rocks!!! emoticon

January Challenge!

Does anyone want to switch things up a bit?

We will still aim for 10 lbs but we could add some more challenges ... Im on the Biggest Looser Rockin Red Team .... it gets pretty intense all that we are suppose to do ... but even if we pulled a few things...

Example:
Everyone do 60 minutes of cardo and 45 minutes of ST a week ... yada yada

We could make it a seperate challenge ...

Thoughts?

I also woudl love a No Eating Out for a Month Challenge :) I need that DESPERATELY!! :) Im totally addicted to eating at Panera ....

Hey Ali ... I know it stinks to have to move your ticker up grr

Ill be honest- unless its a Friday (official weight in day) I just wait out my weight gain (daily weigher)... arent I awful? I hate seeing it go up too

Do you think its your TOM? I can bloat that much and then some ....

Even if it isnt .. you lost THREE POUNDS!! Celebrate that! Thats amazing!! There are those on here that fight for ever .2 lbs .... Remember your body is managing you so you can do this the right way and be healthier in the end .... Dont stress :)

Also, google "Set Point" or "Weight Set Point" ... basically its the principal that your body holds you at a weight ... it doesnt like you go below

I know you said you over ate, but Im thinking mores going on in your body ... your body might have said "extra calories?! heres our chance!" I know its important to not take the responsibilty away from yourself ... yes, you overate, BUT other things happen to.

My point: dont beat yourself up over this .. you just keep on trucking. Cause the weight will come off!! You are doing amazing!

I weighed in this morning at 165
That means I'm up 2.5 lbs from last week, when I was 162.5
I started December at 168, so I'm still down 3 lbs total. Hopefully I can drop some more before the end of the year.

It will be a challenge, as I have a party to attend tonight, one tomorrow (80's themed - my outfit is so RAD! lol!) Then New Year's Eve we're heading up to Maine for a concert and we're staying at a B&B.

My plan for the parties is to eat a healthy dinner before going. And to keep my drinking to a minimum. That shouldn't be difficult - I woke up with a sore throat so I won't want to drink tonight. Saturday I have to drive myself to the party (no sitter, so hubby is staying home) so one drink when I arrive & then I'm cut off.

Sorry this is such a long post, I just wanted to get it all out. This is the first time since joining spark in August that I've had a gain (there were weeks where I stayed the same) and had to change my ticker emoticon it's not fun to go backwards.

OK, that's enough wallowing. I'm moving forward starting now!

I hope everyone else lost this week!!!

Ali- I agree with Wing ... You just focus on making the right choices from today out ... Remember this is not a DIET. There is no failure or mess ups ... there is just days when you eat too much and days when you dont. You are changing your lifestyle. Just imagine ... next year, youll be in such a healthier mindset at xmas time that overeating wont be something you even think to do!

This ENTIRE TEAM is an INSPIRATION! We all work hard! We are all doing fantastic ... And remember we'll do a final weigh in on Jan 1st before starting our January Challenge .... Remember pushing hard for 10 lbs brings you so much closer to that goal than just pushing for 5 ... You are doing soooooo fantastic!!! Keep up the good work (and just as a side note - 3 lbs is a lot to gain in a few days - Im willing to bet its more water than anything ... Just keep drinking and moving and making good choices ...) Like Wing said youll get back there ... the right way :)

You can do it Ali! I packed on quite a bit on Xmas, mostly due to getting over being sick. You can drop "fake" weight pretty quickly, but focus on sticking to the plan, and you'll drop it all for sure.

Even if you don't lose it all "in time" for the weigh-in, you've been busting your butt, you know what mistakes were made, and you can avoid them in the future.

I'm still working on losing my "fake weight" as well. I dunno if I'll be back down to where I need to be by tomorrow morning, but I will keep pressing forward!

I'm fully back on track today! Yesterday I went out for lunch instead of eating what i had packed and I ate eggplant parm for dinner. I watched my portion sizes and got in a 35 minute workout, but still didn't make the best choices.

Today I'm sticking to WW points and will workout later. Tomorrow will be my rest day.
As of this morning I had gained 3 lbs! emoticon
I don't know that I'll shed them in a day, though I do think at least 1 lb is water weight. I had wine on both Xmas even & day. I'm drinking water like crazy today!

Ali- Thanks :)

Kendra- Nope ... if you loose this week you're fine :) Two weeks without loss is sorta the rule :)

Sorry Ive been MIA everyone ... Christmas was busy but a bit of overeating on xmas day (not a lot of good choices to begin with)

My internet is down (somethings wrong with comcast all over the street) ... suppose to be up today sometime ... we shall see. I promise to properly catch up tonight (hopefully)

Wishing everyone a healthy week of choices ... Friday will be a weigh in but well do a final on January 1st

Does anyone have any requests for next month challenge? Perhaps a bit more involved? Im on a Biggest Looser Challenge team and it comes quite involved ... perhaps a mid ground challenge? Let me know your thoughts :)

I am THRILLED that I inspired you to go workout! I have been working at it, but I will be the first to admit that part of my weight loss was from being sick. Which I still am, blargh. While I'm super-excited about the loss, I've already prepped myself, mentally, to see a rise on the scale when I feel better and can start eating more again.

Now, that doesn't mean I'm not hoping to see it keep going down instead lol.

I hope this weekend is awesome for everyone! emoticon

Cra- I weigh daily too...it's a bad habit. I was excited to see that I was 1/2 lb lighter this morning than yesterday...especially since we had take out for dinner last night. It's good to see that one meal doesn't ruin my whole day.

Enough about me! Cra - be proud of your weight loss!!! Losing this time of year is very difficult.

Nice loss there. And don't worry - I hovered right above 220 before every reaching it. It takes some time, but it will happen - I think I was psyching myself out a bit, to be honest. :)

Hey Ladies! Ive been having Internet connectivity problems the past few days.... it still wont connect to my laptop so I'm typing on my tablet ... so sorry for being MIA emoticon

Kendra I agree with Ali... what you are eating matters greatly! For example for breakfast I almost always have my Simple Granola cereal (its on my recipes list on SP) with blueberries and whole milk. (Usually 1/4 cup of each - letting the granola soak up some milk before eating it) Anyway, its loaded with Tiber (both the granola and blueberries) so I am never hungry before lunch - EVER! Now... on mornings when I'm out of my beloved granola, I sub Kashi 7 Grain (plain) Cereal... (1 cup cereal, 1/4 cup blueberries and whole milk)... Guess what?! Even though I can eat more Kashi (for same amount of calories/carbs) I'm starving by 10am.... The cereal has very little fiber....

So my point... don't just look at calories... check out your fiber amounts... also focus on whole wheat and whole grains.... stay away from processed foods (if it has a label its processed) .... I recommend this site amongst all others: 100daysofrealfood.com Its not a diet.... but if you follow her advice you will loose weight.... trust me. Also choosing whole foods naturally reduces your calories intake.... I find it si much easier to keepnin my range with real foods. Good luck .. were all here to help!!

I keep my range between 1200-1550 daily (most days!) I always eat at least 1200, never under. This is enough to satisfy me & keep my energy up, so I don't have the same issue.

I will offer some advice any way - perhaps take a look at what you're eating. I know I wouldn't be able to only eat the amount of calories that I do and still function if I were eating lots of empty calories. I save about 200-300 for that at the end of the day (usually a salty snack & a weight watchers ice cream treat). I try to eat lots of protein, fruits & veggies, & whole grains.

If you're already eating all the right things, then my advice is probably redundant.

If you think you'll find it helpful - I track daily with a buddy on the weight watchers team, feel free to check it out:
www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_mes
sa
geboard_thread.asp?board=1353x865x50R>225543

I hope this helps.
One more thing, when you track on Spark check out the report. It'll tell you where your calories are coming from (carbs, fat, protein).

So I have a dieting question! My biggest problem is that when I eat even 1650 calories, and am still hungry, I am so irratable and my brain feels foggy. I feel too tired to do anything but sleep. Do you guys deal with this? Does it fade? I always give up almost right away because it detracts from my social life!

Weekend was crazy-busy. Finals for my two online classes and still working. However, I'm on break from school for three weeks - which means more time for working out and being on SP with all you awesome people!

This morning, I hit a new low weight - 221.2! I'm getting closer and closer to that 10 pound mark - just gotta emoticon a little longer!

How was everyones weekend?! Christmas is almost here ... and we should all get some relief from the Holiday Treats that are everywhere!

The number one resolution for New Years is Loose Weight, so we should be seeing some great deals on gym memberships, healthy foods, and such... Also, pretty much everyone around us will be on a diet (at least for a few weeks) so we can rejoice in a slightly easier time (less sweets around, etc.)

Kendra - I agree! If Im hungry ... yikes! I have no control. I have to plan to eat as much as I plan what to eat ...

Dont give up Tessa! I think your body is probably holding you where you are for a reason. Google: Set Point ...

Basically, your body wants to be at a certain weight. You forced it lower, so now your bodies trying to keep you where you currently are at... if you give it a chance to adjust (maintain your weight) it will give up the fight and youll be able to lower your weight and reset yoru set point ...

We're here for you - gain, loose, maintain ... doesnt matter! We still want to be your team! :)

@tessa are you sure you are eating enough? I find if I'm hungry I can't control myself. If I am satisfied I still WANT the chocolate and cookies etc, but I am able to resist. For me eating under 1400 cal was impossible and led to binging. Have you found your number?

I need to look at the food and think is it worth it.. Unfortunately at the moment it seems to be in my mouth before I have time to answer-not good. Each day I tell my self I need to get in control of the eating...each day I seem to slip. I am exercising, the damage could be worse!

It's good to see you all doing so well, I will keep trying..

Wingless! YOU GO GIRL! Amazing will power!

I totally agree with you ... Walmart baked goods are not *worth* the splurge.... Now if it was red velvet cake from your favorite bake shop... thats totally different! haha

I try to look at everything I eat in the same way .... is this worth it? I ask myself that a lot! Sometimes I say yes but most of the time I say no ...

Is there such thing as intuitive eating?! I need to google that!

Thanks (comment about loss) Im pretty shocked - not sure what Im doing differently (other than not guzzling 5 of my 8 glasses of water after 7 pm (cause I forgot all day ...) so Im sleeping (not getting up to go pee! haha) and maybe not holding all that water in during the morning weigh in?! hmm....

Glad to clarify! I think the big idea here is that if you aim for 10 lbs you are going to get a LOT closer to it than you would if you aimed for like ... 4 ... sometimes perspective makes all the difference! :) Happy Weekend!

Awesome numbers all around. And Cramommy - NICE!

Thanks for the clarification on pounds per week. Makes a lot more sense that way.

Today was HARD. A friend at work had her birthday. I had completely forgotten. So, when I walked into the break room to clock in, I was completely unprepared to be assaulted with the smell of baked goods. Red Velvet cake (my absolute favorite) and doughnuts. Baked goods are my weak point. However - I had NOTHING. The stuff was from the Walmart bakery, and I'm not fond of the food there. I've had those donuts before, and I knew they wouldn't be delicious and amazing. They would be a poor substitute for my favorite doughnut place. I knew this, and I stayed away. I ate my healthy-low-sodium-high-protein dinner at my lunch break (even though there were still doughnuts) and when I couldn't handle the smell anymore on another break, and was actually getting hungry, I had a meal bar instead.

OMG I WANT A DOUGHNUT!

lol

Nice job @cra!!! 2.8 lbs is awesome!

Thanks for clarifying the requirements for the challenge too. Let's keep motivating each other!!

BTW - the BBQ was good. The only veggies were mashed potatoes emoticon I had a small amount of each thing I wanted and 1/2 a cookie. I think I did very well for such a tempting meal!

My Weekly Weigh In

Today: 234.4 emoticon
Last Week: 237.2
Lost of: 2.8

Ive been pulling high numbers on my daily weigh ins ... FINALLY occured to me thats its probably water weight and I stayed on the scale long enough to confirm this yesterday morning (I have a scale that tells me fat%, water %, muscle %, and bone mass.)

The reason? I have been chugging water later at night ... yesterday I made sure to spread the water throughout the day and sure enough - major number today :)

Clarification:

You do not have to loose 2.5 lbs a week ... ANY loss will keep you in the Challenge! If you dont loose one week, you can continue in the challenge if you loose the next week (even if its 0.1 lbs.)

My thinking is this: We are ALL aiming for 2.5 lbs (or 10 for the month) but the reality is - some weeks we'll pull crappy numbers and others we will pull HUGE numbers... This Challenge motivates me in a MAJOR WAY! I dont want anyone to give up on themselves! USE those low numbers to PUSH HARDER! FIGHT FOR THE WEIGHT TO COME OFF! Every pound you loose gets you closer to your goal - YOU CAN DO THIS!!

Wingless- WOW! You are doing great! Choosing to be more active is a sign of being on the right track! A lifestyle change to a more active lifestyle is what will make the pounds melt away and stay away! Great job on the 1.8 pounds, too! emoticon I always say "some weight loss" is better than "no weight loss" ... Also after a low loss week, I tend to pull high numbers the following so dont stress!!

Tess- Thats unfortunet that you gained but, emoticon You can do this! You dont need to leave the team!! Join us still for chatting and motivation! You can still log your weight (if you want) in the Non Challenge thread ... Accountability is something that motivates me - if it motivates you - feel free! We are here to do this TOGETHER! You CAN DO THIS! You WILL DO THIS!

Ali- THREE POUNDS! WAAAAHOOO!! Great job!! Enjoy the BBQ ... make time with colleagues the priority (not the food) enjoy as much as you want until your full - focus on veggies and fruit! You can do this! :) And if you do over indulge - so what - just try and make better choices tomorrow! Its a life style change not a diet emoticon

Dee- Great Job!! Even without carrying out your plan you lost 2.2 lbs! Thats AMAZING!! emoticon Can you imagine how well youll do next week! And dont sweat the number- remember weight loss is not linear ... youll have "lower" weeks and "higher" weeks! You are on the way! You are doing it!

Well, at least I did lose.

So, this is my first time in the challenge, and I wanted to check on what happens when you don't drop 2.5 pounds per week. I know you get a "second chance" as it were, but for next week, do I have to drop 2.5 pounds to get to 219.7, or do I drop 2.5 from where I *should* have been, bringing me to 219 even?

I know there's "only" a .7 pound difference, but that .7 pound means an extra 2450 calorie deficit I need to figure out this week. lol

I am pretty happy!!! Going to push it even harder next week... I failed on my plan last weekend (which i could have lost more than what i did)...so just gotta get through this weekend & i should be golden for next week's weigh-in :) !!!

At the end of day it's not about what you "CAN" do or "PLANNED" to do- it's about what you DID.

Fat is choice - it's time I stopped making bad choices!!!

Last week: 167.5
Today: 164.5!

I lost 3 lbs this week!!! I assume this happened for 2 reasons: 1) I was PMS'ing last week and probably carrying water weight (I fluctuated between 167 and 170 most of the week)
2) seeing only 1/2 lbs loss I really kicked it up this week. I had been doing mostly 20 min workouts over the past few months (30 Day Shred & other Jillian workouts). I did 40+ min workouts (doubling up on 20 min DVD's or doing longer ones) all this week, except yesterday where I could only fit in 20 minutes.

Today is a much needed rest day. It's also my company holiday party, it's being catered by a BBQ place & it's during work hours (pro - no alcohol, con - i can't skip it)

I have resolved to indulge, but not over indulge. Just because it's tasty, free & "there" doesn't mean I have to eat it. I'm arming myself with strong mints for when I feel I'm done!

Sorry for the super long post, I'm a little amped up this morning! lol!

I'm looking forward to seeing how everyone else did!!!

My final push today was doing my workout. lol

I work at Value Village (also known as Savers). It's an awesome, awesome job, and I LOVE it. Today, at the end of my shift, I stayed an extra half hour to cover the lunch for our Community Donation Center. Now, if anyone's every donated anything to a thrift store, you likely have an idea what our CDC area is. It's full of boxes, bags, furniture, and all sorts of stuff that gets dropped off. So, while covering his lunch, I broke down all the boxes (5 minutes), grabbed ALL the "soft" donations (clothes, etc) and stacked them in one cart (which ended up about chest-high), then asked him where his "Misc" cart was (for all the other donations, like books and housewares). There wasn't one clear. So, I hauled a cart out to our compactor, lifted all the garbage bins up to shoulder-height and dumped them all into the compactor. This was after maneuvering the cart past the OTHER carts outside from the donations we got from our non-profit partner...which all weigh in at roughly 1/2 a ton...YAY WHEELS!

But I still did my 30 minutes of cardio, 3 sets of 12 bridges for one team's challenge, and my daily crunches. And I didn't grab seconds from dinner. I honestly don't even care at this point if I lose, so long as I don't gain. lol

*sigh* Thank you all for letting me get that off my chest. Now, onto watching Start Trek: Voyager and a foot rub!

I got back on track with eating, but I'm getting nervous with our weigh-in looming so close. Pushing that extra little bit. :)

Exercise has been awesome, however! Even if I don't lose, I can tell I'm getting smaller around the middle, and a little more toned in my arms. YAY progress!

i've been working out during my 1 hour lunch break.. but when it comes to being at home.. i get so lazy & even 4get to stretch! I really need to work on that!

As for eating.. I did really good with getting back on track yesterday.. but as for Monday- I didn't do so well for diner. I went out with my friend and I gotta say I am horrible when I go out. If I eat at home- no problems. But temptation & not being stronged will gets me everytime -.-. I am hoping for a 2 lb loss this week.. we will see...

How is everyone doing so far this week?

At the end of day it's not about what you "CAN" do or "PLANNED" to do- it's about what you DID.

Fat is choice - it's time I stopped making bad choices!!!
