Hi Everyone!!

Sorry I've been MIA...not trying to be but it's been busy but I have still been on track. In fact, this weekend, it's time! My second Olympic distance triathlon is here & this time I feel better about it. I've been doing a lot of reading about the subject & overall just changed my attitude all together. I have concrete goals to accomplish, I've put in the training & now I just have to do it!

As far as diet I *was* doing really, really well that was until Tuesday where I consciously decided that I needed a break. So sugar it has been & I have to tell ya, & I know that this is not good so please do not follow my example because I know that long term this will not be the case, but I've lost weight & I've done less exercise this week. Crazy right? I mean I not exactly binging like crazy but I have indulged in cake & ice cream. This is the part that I am supposed to say that I feel really bad but I don't. You see, I've been good for a long time & I think that I needed to just get this out of my system. This is probably me rationalizing things too but I know that this last couple of days are not the ruin of me & I know that the carbs are probably in my best interest since lately when I've been racing I've felt very weak due to such a low calorie count most days (I'm talking 1300-1500 calories per day with typically 1.5-2 hours of exercise added in here!). So I know this week I need the fuel but I know better also that there are certainly better ways of "fueling" too. I think that this is also stemming from my lack of exercise which is supposed to happen this week since I'm tapering. But either way, I'm still feeling ok & ready for Sunday's race!

Ms. Butterfly - you have had a great month! Hoping that all your activities are getting you closer & closer to your goals!!!

Stacy - No apologies needed...I am so sorry to hear about your mom although I hope that the nursing facility is able to provide the care that she needs. That is so sad to hear about your dad, it must be so very difficult to be separated from the love of your life. My prayers go out to you & your family during this difficult time. I hope that you dad will be able to find a solution to cope with the changes & they are both very lucky to have a supportive daughter like you. With everything going on it's completely understandable that exercising wouldn't be on the list of your top priorities right now. You can just continue on with the journey, with your strength I'm sure that you continue to have success.

Hi ladies,
Sorry I have been absent for so long. Mom was in the hospital last Monday - Wednesday. They finally got her stabilized and moved her to the nursing home on Thursday. DH and I went back and got her all moved in but my dad is having a really hard time accepting it and he doesn't want to stay in their house by himself. I keep telling him that I would be more than willing to go with him to scope out somewhere different to live but then he doesn't want to move out of their house. I think he is really conflicted about what he should do. The Dr. did tell dad that mom is going to have to stay in the nursing home permanently this time. It's just really sad.

Anyway besides that I'm feeling really guilty b/c I looked at the calendar and realized I didn't exercise the entire month of July. I know that it's b/c of stress and not being on Spark. When I'm active on here and logging my food I do much better. I'm disappointed in myself b/c I came so close to achieving my work's 10 week challenge and then I just stopped trying and ended up only losing 4 lbs instead of 10. Yuck. Got to get back on track. My hubby bought those Kettleworx DVD's. I'm not sure if I can do those but I'm going to give it a shot.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be

July 18 - 35 min Run = 1179/2000
July 20 - 52 min Run & 36 min walk = 1267/2000

We did 2 hiking trails...one in the morning & one at night. It wasn't all in one shot.

I'm the same way with my weight...lowest on Friday & up on Monday. Congrats on the healthy choices when eating out this weekend. That's great. How did you feel after making those choices??
My 15 km run this weekend was Hot & Hilly, so I hate those two words also. For your race..I think that's a good time for hot, hilly & a new bike.
Don't stress about your upcoming Tri., you'll do great. You've done one before & finished, you'll finish this one also. Is it an easier course than the last one you did or is it the same?

Well I'm looking forward to my scheduled exercise day off. I can't wait to get home, sit on my deck & read a book I've been waiting to dive into.

Hello Ms. Butterfly!

Glad that you had a great weekend & it appears very active! That is a looooong hiking trip you had there! Happy that it is getting easier for your too.

I did really well over the weekend, in fact, I am down 1 lb since Friday which NEVER happens for me. Typically I am down to my lowest weight for the week by Friday & up to my highest by Monday but I made all smart food decisions. I even had the true test, I went out to eat 2 times this weekend & both times I was smart with what I ordered. Nothing fried, I even asked for whole wheat pasta! The family decided to have ice cream & I went with the low fat frozed yogurt!! I was rather impressed with myself. I got in a lot of biking over the weekend, close to 4 hours which is good. I love my new bike. I had a 5K on Saturday which I sucked miserably at...26:43 which is the slowest I've been all year. It was HOT & HILLY two words I hate for this race so I will need to try this again. Plus, I'm getting worried sorta about my upcoming triathlon on the 31st. The end of the month is coming so quick & I want to make sure that I am uber prepared this time around. Beyond that looking forward to a good week this week although looking at my calendar for the month I can see that from now until September it's going to be very busy every weekend.

July 15 - 53 min Run/Walk = 765/2000
July 16 - 246 min Hiking & 20 min walk = 1031/2000

Had a great weekend camping & hiking. I was proud of myself for some of the decisions I made this weekend. I'm finding it easier to make the "right" choice.

Crysbrown - how did your weekend go??

Hi Ms. Butterfly - I hope that you have a wonderful time camping! I took a hiking day trip which was wonderful this year. My first time too! Just so you know, hiking is a LOT harder than it sounds but soooooo much fun, I think that you are going to love it. You should be really proud that you are incorporating exercise into your adventure too!

This week has been hard for me, although my food has been just fine I seem to be carrying extra lbs & I really do NOT like it. Of course this is the week of TOM - like tomorrow :( - so I guess it is to be expected but I really hate seeing a bad number on the scale. Honestly I'm really only up 4 lbs where I used to be but still it sucks! I think those binge weeks from vacations & long weekends are finally catching up to me. Anyhow, onward & upward. I plan on tracking my food all weekend. In addition, yesterday when I went to the supermarket I bought some healthy/bad snacks. You see, if I want chocolate I need to stop depriving myself altogether because it just leads to massive binges & I also need to stop indulging in the worse possible snacks like cakes, cupcakes, brownies etc. So instead I went with chocolate covered pretzels. I WILL track my food this weekend which makes all the difference for me.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!!!

July 13 67 min Run/Walk = 622/2000

I can't wait for tomorrow to come, I'm going camping with a friend. We'll be tenting...should be interesting. The main reason for going is we want to do lots of hiking. This is my first ever "planned exersice" trip. I hope the weather smartens up & the sun comes out & stays out.

Chrsbrown - How has your week been going with getting your food in check?? Love your new bike..it looks like it goes fast.

Ms. Butterfly - I hear you about the scale. The scale has not been my friend this week & I know it's because of vacation/long weekend binge eating. I think though that maybe your numbers are not decreasing as fast because you weigh less & it's harder to lose when you don't have as much lose...if that makes sense...Definitely congratulate yourself even for a 1 lb loss though because it's still progress!

I picked up my new bike yesterday...her name is Mercedes. She is beautiful! I cannot wait to take her out for a spin!

On the weight loss tip though I weighed in yesterday after not weighing myself for about 2 weeks, it's not good at all! I'm at the highest weight that I've been since February & I don't like it! I need to get myself under control. Last weekend I definitely indulged in too much sugar which didn't help those numbers I'm sure. For me, when I put on weight I try to think that it's not just that I don't feel so good but athletically speaking it will make me slower so it's gotta come off!

Soooooo, I'm working on that this week.

How is everyone's week going so far??

July 7 - 45 min Run & 31 min Walk = 422/2000
July 10 - 100 min Run/Walk = 522/2000
July 11 - 33 min walk = 555/2000

I'm determined to get my 2000 minutes this month!! Plus I need to kick it up a notch...It's been a tough year with my scale....I lose a few pounds, hover, lose a few pounds, hover, etc. etc. I'm tired of hovering!! Don't get me wrong..I'm happy with how far I've come...I just want to stop the hovering on the scale. I know this can be done..I've done it before..I will do it again.

Cysbrown - I'm so jealous...Have fun getting a new road bike. Stay strong, you can survive the weekend...If you are craving unhealthy food, take a spin around the block on you new bike or read a inspiring article. I just read somewhere that you'll eat healthier if you read an inspiring article, such as a success story or a health article.

Ms. Butterfly - that is wonderful news! & not really surprising since you've beeing in so dedicated! Just look at all your minutes, it's no wonder that you are shrinking!

So far so good with my goals, except only time will tell with the weekend fast approaching, that's when I typically struggle. Saturday I am going to look at road bikes, something that I have been procrastinating about for such a long time.

BREEZE70 - great goals for the month!

Ms. Butterfly - I see that you are just plugging along with those minutes. Sooooo happy about your running success! I giant emoticon is definitely in order! It is an amazing thing how the body adapts.

My July Goals...

I posted a blog about it already but figured I would put 5 of them out here...

1) don't stress next OlyTri - I think that was what messed me up last time was that I was so worried about worrying that I didn't have the right attitude
2) Find a triathlon schedule & make it work for me
3) No ice cream - that's the hard one
4) Buy a bike - not hard just expensive
5) Buy new running sneakers - don't mind it, it's just again expensive

July 1 - Rest Day
July 2 - 83 min run & 7 min walk = 90/2000
July 3 - 38 min walk = 128/2000
July 4 - 57 min walk = 185/2000
July 5 - 45 min run & 40 min walk = 270/2000

Well I had alittle WooHoo moment yesterday....
When I run with my friend I can't talk much because I'm usually stuggling to keep up with her. During the last few runs with her I noticed I wasn't stuggling as hard to keep up. Last night we went for a run & I noticed I was chatting away with no problems & I was having to slow down since I was getting a few steps ahead. At one point she then said to me...."I feel like I have to boogie to keep up with you tonight". This is when I had my little WooHoo moment...last year when we started running together I had to push myself out of my comfort zone to keep up & I always wondered if I'd ever catch up. Well, I've caught up & am now pushing her out of her comfort zone.

Happy July Everyone!

I have yet to post my July goals blog but definitely I have snapped back into reality today & I realize as of this minute...I have LOTS of work to do! Vacation/long weekends are nice but let's face it, sometimes they derail our healthy efforts! Anyhow time to get back on track. As far as mini-goals this week, as a team let's try...

1. List 5 goals on this thread that you would like to accomplish this month

2. Do 1 different fitness activity this week - I'm going to try jump roping myself!

3. Check on on this thread at least 2 more times this week - purely because being here keeps us accountable & FOCUSED on healthy living

Wishing you all a productive month!
