I most certainly agree, MeMeMe! So often we feel like we can't do "it all", until someone that has "been there, done that" comes along with just the motivation we need :)

Working mom here checking in! The great thing about this group and Sparkpeople is that so often we all feel like we are the only ones who work long hours, try do ti all for our kids, can't inf time for yourselves, etc. etc.

The good news is that we can find time for yourselves, we can be healthy, which for me makes me feel like a better parent.

Welcome!!!

Hi, I'm also a working mom. I do payroll for 1200+ employees at my local hospital, with all the glamour and glory that involves. emoticon I have a 7 year old son and a husband who spends can-see to can't-see at our family farm of around 2000 acres. I feel like a slacker after reading some of your daily routines, tho! It's my goal to start getting up earlier in the morning, because we all know how hectic the evening is for us after work. I'm fortunate in that I can take walks around the building I work in (since the hospital has a wellness program) and another goal is to join one of our local gyms that the hospital has paid for us to join--and it's FREE to us! I haven't been able to work it into the schedule yet, but I'm going to this winter. I just need to kick myself in the derrierre and get going....

Welcome back, SaraAnn! You definately are not alone. I'm sure some of our Team Members have great ideas to include your kids in your workouts. My children love working out with me, they are still young enough to think we're just playing. Try to find something on the weekends that would make spending time with your family active time, as well. Zoos, parks, beaches, window shopping. When they are old enough, the Kinect is so fun! Turn on some music and dance, don't worry about how well you are doing it, just do it :)

Hello! I'm new to the group and have been away from sparkpeople for too long. I've had a ton of life changes... I have a 6 year old daughter and 2.5 year old son. When he was about a year old, I joined Spark, joined a gym and got myself into great shape! Loved having time to work out every day, and loved logging my meals and truly changing my lifestyle. Since then, I've gone back to work full time (my husband was laid off) and have a 2-hour-per-day commute. Now I feel like I barely have time with my kids during the day... and spending an hour at the gym is just a total pipe dream. My eating habits also backslid big time... I'm back to a LOT of my old, bad ways. I'm getting back on Spark because it motivated me before, and while the shape of my life is different and the obstacles/barriers are new, I know when I put my mind to something and make it a priority, I do succeed. I'm not looking to drop any particular amount of weight... just desperately want to live a healthier lifestyle than I have right now. THANK YOU for sharing your experiences - - you are all inspiring and it feels great to know I'm not alone!

Sara

Here's what works for me:
I end up sleeping about six hours a day. Yes, they say eight is best, but it works just fine for my body. I do not feel deprived the next day.
I get up about an hour before I have to get the kids out of bed. Get a shower, get ready for work, get breakfast started. Get the kids up about six, they go to extended day at school at seven. Double check everyone's teeth are brushed, agendas are signed, and lunches are made.
Get home about six pm. Mondays and Tuesdays, we don't get home until about eight. Girl Scouts! Dinner is usually either cooked ahead and warmed, or it's something simple, like quesadillas or breakfast. Kids are in bed by eight Wednesday through Sunday, nine on some weekends and Monday and Tuesday. I wash dishes, log in my food for the day, then either do strength training (M&T) or cardio on the Kinect. People say that you should not exercise for like four hours before bed. Well, I put that idea straight out the door! After exercising for an hour, meditate for a good ten minutes. By the time all of this is accomplished, I am so ready for sleep!

Hello :) I am a fulltime working mom with two kids ages 7 & 11. My daughter has health issues & my son (and daughter) are HEAVILY involved in sports & other activities. Often days, I leave work, scoop up whatever child I am driving that night, and off I go in my office clothes to some sport & dont get home till close to 9pm. I then have to figure out a way to make school lunches for the next day, sign homework, feed pets, lay out tomorrows clothes, say hello to the child my husband drove that night ;) and in there somewhere, say hello to my husband. It is not unusual that I would at 10:30pm think to myself "oh yeah...I havent eaten dinner". Ofcourse because my husband is home at 3:30...he prepares dinner for himself & the kids, but I am vegetarian...and he isnt, so I end up at the end of the day boiling up some perogies or mr noodles. And I wonder why I am overweight ! what I need to figure out is how to find the time to prepare meals ahead of time so that I am able to eat on the go, and still get the right amount of Nutrition.....ahhhh !!! One tip I do have for lunch though..is I buy a supply of soups, and some rice crackers...and I store them in my desk at work. enough for a week (the ready to serve kind)That way, I always have lunch in a pinch, and dont have to go out & buy crap !works for me !

sounds like we are all in the same boat here! Too much to do and not enough hours in the day. My biggest obstacle is lunch. I never seem to have anything in the fridge to take for lunch!
I use Dream Dinners for at least 1 or 2 dinners a week. I try to plan for leftovers.

Hi, I am Penny, I have 1 son and myself and my husband work full time.
I have been on and off again on Spark people for about a year, but got kicked started back again when I got on the scales and topped 180.
I am looking forward to seeing how everybody manages to squeeze some time into the day without compromising the special time with our kids

Hi!
I'm Bordin, 27, mom to a two year old boy and guardian to my two nieces 11 and 7. I work full time early morning shifts and my husband works late shifts so one of us is always at home with the kids.

I'm looking for different ways to stay active especially ways involving the kids!

Hi, I just joined this team today. I have two kids (1 and 3) and work full time. My husband currently has two jobs which keeps him away from home for most of the week. My poor kids are in daycare for 10 hours a day and I try dedicate all of my home time to them. Right now my life feels pretty hectic (because I am losing control of the housework). I am hoping to learn to organize better so that I can also fit in some exercise and lose weight.

I can do it.

Planning ahead is what works for me. It sounds like you have so much going on! I only have one kid and work 10 hour days with an hour long drive to and from work! I make my breakfast the night before, get up early enough to make my lunch, and for dinners I keep a few things around that are quick like the skillet dinners (frozen food section) for the times when I need something quick and I make enough soup and chilli to last for a couple of days. I hope this helps.

Hi all I am new to this group.
My name is Ruth and I have 3 great kids. I work full time and I take classes online. My home is a wreck, laundry piled high, soccer, basketball, and swim practice during the week and meets and games on the weekend.
Dinner is BAD for us. I need to give my kids a more nutritious dinner but I can never fit it into my day. I need about 36 hours to do everything.
