Hey There Everyone!
So, I am a mom of 2 absolutely wonderful kids - really the best kids in the world (just like what almost every mom thinks...right). My son turned 4 last September and my daughter just turned 3 at the end of January. I was a stay-at-home mom until my daughter was 11 months. I also did do school full time until the end, when I just did a couple of classes at a time. My husband and I were living in my moms rental house with my sister and her boyfriend while I was pregnant and just after having our daughter. Originally we moved there to save $ to buy a house, but then my husbands hours at work were cut and we weren't able to really save much of anything. The living situation was not ideal, and so we finally decided to bite the bullet and start looking for a house to buy, even though we hadn't saved as much as we originally planned. Part of making that decision was that I was going to need to go back to work. It was the most difficult thing ever - to transition from being with my kidís everyday and getting to experience everything, to watching my mother-in-law watching them and getting to experience it instead. I am grateful for many reasons, working again...but no matter what I will always hold a little resentment for what I no longer get to share with my children and the time I loose with them. Hopefully, one day, I will be able to be back home at least part time.
Miah

Hi Group,
It has been a long time....sorry. I joined another club and guess what they closed too emoticon .
So now I try to squeez in exercise somewhere between dinner and bed time. That is very hard to do since I get home at 7pm, dinner is usually around 8-8:30pm (DH gets home late too). Makes me sick to exercise on a full tummy.

I want to welcome all the new members to our group and wish everyone Happy, Blessed and safe holidays.

This is my new attempt at ME time. ;) Hope to get to know you all and make some friendships.

Well, I am finally feeling business slow down at work and I am getting more done, which is fantastic.

Also, this is my week with Logan, my son, and I am excited about his accomplishments in school and outside of school. He continues to impress and bedazzle all around him so I walk about with a puffed up chest!!!

I have come back to SP successfully this week as well and have already lost a couple more pounds. This makes me happy but of course, I wont believe it until it stays off at least three more days lol

Thanks for your warm welcomes ladies!!

Good Evening All! I am new to the group and a working mom and wife - sharing custody of an 8 yr old boy. So not so full time Mom but my heart is there full time.

I manage a team of customer service reps in phone company call centre. We are in our busiest time of year with the students returning and needing phone services, so I have been working a great deal of overtime when my son isn't with us.

This has knocked me off track, due to being so darned tired, but I haven't gained weight, just not losing or working out.

I have commited to starting again today and decided that I must take one more step by joining a group. Since this is the one I seem to have more in common with, I hope you all don't mind if I join you!

I should be off now, going to try and get a short walk in before bed.

Last night after it cooled off, I went to the high school track and walked/ jogged. It is nice because you can keep track of the distance much easier. It also helped me relax.

I think the grocery store is also the perfect place to hang out alone. I do agree if you can make it to the book store that is better. I have also started going to the libary. The kids go online in the kids department, on go online in the adult department it is quite they are occupied and I get all my spark people stuff done, email reading, message board, recipes etc. and it is cozy and the air is always cool. My kids always take a couple movies home and ahh more quite time. So take advantage of the libary to. I also love the magazine at the libary you can read them all for free. Ok I am done with my public service annoucment.

Slow down, enjoy the moment!

Grocery shopping, the perfect time to hang out at a cool store, coffee shop or book store near by, or even grab a magazine off the rack and sit down right there in the isle and enjoy. I RELLY do do this, emoticon
Hey I do it all the time and hmmm hubby still has not figured out that grocery shopping does not take 2 hours......shhhh please don't.

Water workouts, that sounds fun, maybe you can stay a bit longer.

Well have a good night

Me time? What is that? I do water areobics at school. DH thinks that counts as my ME time. LOL. Sometimes I go grocery shopping alone does that count? :)

I have really been doing well sticking to my diet the last few days. Summer is usually the easiest for me cause it is always to hot to cook so we eat a lot of salads and cereals. That is what we had for supper today, scrambled eggs and cereal.

I'm glad you found us. I know this will not be easy for you to do, but TRY to slow down a bit and work on yourself. Find ways to shave time off of other projects and add that time to YOU. I find that if I even do stupid things like vaccumm one room today and one the next I can Squeezzzzz in ME time. Don't do it all in one big lump of time, break it into little pieces and see what happens.
Well keep us posted on your "YOU" time. emoticon

Hi all,
Mind if I join ya? I'm not exactly a working parent, but I am a full time college student raising three little ones. My Hubby works part time and goes to school too. We are in Southern Illinois and attend SIUC. Living hetic schedules on a tight budget makes dieting difficult. It seems that the healthier a food is the more it costs. My kids actually like healthy foods like carrots and celery with peanut butter, but buying them in small enough quantities that they don't go bad is difficult. And Lettuce is hard to keep fresh with out much cost too. Maybe it is just our grocery stores, I am curious as to how you all do it.

I have another recipe idea and boy is it yummmmmmmmyyyyy and healthy takes 10 mins. My boys absolutly love it. Take a piece of foil put in a piece of fish of your choice inside add string beans and carrots onions bellpeppers and some lemon put it on the bbq for 10 mins and it is done (for those of you who like to grill).. Tina as far as the excerise is going girl we will talk when we work together again. I will be at work sunday and monday 2-2...have some great ideas.. I used to have the same problem with not finding time to excerise and what i have found is that every little bit helps. When the boys would go outside to play I would play w them soccer bball tennis...when they were inside hide and seek ( that works you out espacially if the kids are quick).. when I would watch tv I would stand and do squats (4 reps of 10).. You would be surprised how much that works..Hope this helps everyone and if anyone has any other great ideas let me know plssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

Hello I know what you mean about needing to get into a better exercise routine. Since summer started everythhing just kind of fell apart. I was exercising on my lunch break but now with the boys home I am going home for lunch instead. I really need to start getting up early and going in the morning. I know my day would go so much smoother if I did that and I would feel better about myself not even to mention the fact the weight would come off much quicker and easier.

Talk to you soon,
Melissa

Hi everyone~I've been wanting to post here since I first saw it, but haven't had the time! I'm so relieved to hear about everyone's crazy hectic life b/c mine is insane too. Michelle, I so plan to use that crockpot recipe. I thought there was a crockpot healthy recipe article too, that I meant to read, but hadn't done yet. I love using the crockpot, it's awesome.

Anyway, I have 3 awesome kids, ages 3, 6, & 11. I'm divorced, and work full time, but really full time plus part time b/c of mandatory overtime (right Michelle? heh heh) I'm still in stage 1 of fast break b/c I just can not manage to excercise regularly. Honestly in the past month there's only been 3 times when I conciously could've excercised at home, but didn't. So, I'm going to put more focus on walking at work b/c we have this cool program/incentive going on. Anyway, I have to get going, but I plan on checking in often!

Hello All, the weekend went well. I played Tennis on Sunday and boy was it scorching hot! It was fun though I've never really played before. My tennis partner is an avid tennis player so it made it much easier he kept the ball coming straight to me that helped. Well today I've been eating emotionally........hmmmmmmmm if I confess it now maybe I'll dig my way out and stay within my calorie limit by the end of the day. I can do it I can do it I can do it I can do it........with God all things are possible!!!

This in not a crock pot meal but it is really fast.

Take any fish you like, add any fresh veggies and spices you like, juice from 1/2 a lemon.Coat bottom of pan w/ butter place everything in the pan add a little bit of water (helps steam veggies) cover tightly and put in the oven for approx. 30 minutes.

That sounds like a great idea I'll have to try it with the lipton soup mix.

I sometimes will put chicken breats in the crockpot and add liptons onion soup mix bell peppers onions and let it simmer on low for about 5 hours. Take out the chicken w the veggies and serve it with mashed potatos or over pasta. I work graves and sleep all day so on those days is when i like to use the crockpot. It is easy for my husband to just have to heat it up or make a side instead of making the whole dish....(MEN)...

What are some good family dinners that are really easy to make and healthy. I love to crock pot but I seem to have run out of ideas. My kids are really sick of roasts LOL

Congrats on you loss.

I have to keep "grab and go" foods handy to. I keep tuna, popcorn, and peanut butter at work. I also like to have protein bars (kashi, snickers marathon low carb, power bars) these make for an easy breakfast on the run. I try to get the ones with more fiber.

As for fast food, McDonalds Asian Grilled Chicken Salad is my new favorite and Wendy's Freshcata Club is also good. Both have less than 500 calories. Subway has several good choices as well.

Congratulations on your weight loss! 3lbs is awesome!! WOOHOO I agree having healthy snack food in the car makes a world of difference. I have found that as long as I stay away from fast food I seem to do much better. If I have to do fast food I now order a kids meal instead. You can normally get away with a kids meal for around 500 calories if you don't eat all of the fries. I also found out that onion rings are less calories then fries. Although both are bad for you when you don't have an alternative it's good to know which one to choose.

Well i weighed myself today and I have lost another 3lbs. I am so excited, I have been not eating out at places such as all of our favorite fast food placed. I have been walking and jogging.. The snack food in the car really help out

That's a great idea having cereal in a baggy for emergencies. I also pack cheeze it crackers. I weigh out 1 serving and throw them in a baggy. The only thing is I do find that if I eat a lot of carbohydrates I do want to eat again soon afterward. I don't know if it's all in my head because of an article I read or if it's true that carbs make you more hungry. Hmmmmm anyone know?

I never really thought about the snack bars. I always think I would need to pack fruit veggies and things like that and w out a cooler something to keep them cold then it is pointless. I will be going to costco then. I would also have to hide some of the snacks cause the boys (also meaning my husband) will eat them all. I was talking w one of my girfriends and she also said she puts honey bunches of oats type cereal in a baggy and keeps it in her veh for emergencies. emoticon

I have the exact same problem with all of the kids activities and working. What I've started doing is keeping Atkins and various meal type bars in the house. I have to hide some of them or the kids would eat them. I buy all different kinds I just try to stay with the ones that have 250 calories or less because then if I get hungry and don't have time I can grab one of those. Sometimes one isn't enough so I'll grab two and a diet coke (which is a treat for me because I mostly drink water now). I remind myself of the reason I'm supposed to eat. Eat to live don't live to eat. The other thing that's easy to grab is 2 slices of ww bread and some Kraft free american cheese w/some mustard. Very quick and easy when I'm running out the door.

I'm interested in hearing what other people do..........the more ideas the better

I went home yesterday morning to fing my house quiet. My husband was off to work my kids stayed the night at the in-laws. As I was sitting there eating dinner (breakfast) I realized how quiet it was and how peacefull it sounded. Then I missed my kids noise and needs. I went to sleep and then woke up again to an empty house. Kids sure make the days interesting. But on a different note does anyone find it hard to eat healthy sometimes when you are on the go to this event and that event, this ball game and that ball game. I try and pack the healthy stuff but sometimes it is just easier to do the drivethru thing. any suggestions would be great emoticon

You can say that again our lives would be boring without the kids! My boys are getting older now and so the havoc has changed from having to do everything for them to having to drive them everywhere and just hoping to get a minuted to spend with them LOL it's funny how quickly life passes by. I cherish the time with my 8 year old now so much more then I did with my oldest son. I only wish I knew then how quickly he would grow up. People told me but I didn't really get it until it started happening. Now I guess when the havoc is reaping in my house I remind myself that one day I won't have it and I'll miss it............

Work all day and sleep at night (in my case it is oposite)but we still manage to help the kids w the homework, baths and anything else that needs to be done all the while you are getty laundry and dinner done. Just then the phone rings and your babysitter cancels on you at the last minute... There is only one thing to say to that kind of havok.... I am glad I am a parent cause without my kids my life would be boring. **** not to mention the sports practices and the "MOM CAN I HAVE SOMETHING TO EAT".. my reply to that is go ask your DAD. emoticon

Hello welcome to our group. Our group has not been very chatty these days, with the kids home now who has the time.
Thank you for your kind words. It is hard but I'm dealing well. There is a Curves right across the street from my office, but I have to watch my funds right now. We'll see maybe I can join in the near future.
Have a great 4th holiday

Good luck w/ you new healthy lifestyle.

Hello Everyone, I just joined this group. I have been on spark for about 3 months. I did originally lose a little over 10 lbs but gained it back because of emotional eating and that "I give up" feeling. I was in a slump for about 2 weeks and gained 7-8 lbs. But I'm back on the wagon and plan to lose that and then some!

Dawn - I am sorry to hear that you are filing for divorce I could imagine that has to be very hard. On top of that your club closing didn't help anything. Do you have any others close to you?

Hello all talk to you soon

Hi everyone,
I have been out of the loop for a while. Things are real ugly around here. My club closed, major changes at work and I'm filing for divorce, trying to pack & move and so on.....
Other then all that I'm holding it all together, no food binges so thats a real good thing. Now I need to find the time to fit in exercise.
Hope you all are doing well and I will try to pop in again soon.

Hello everyone. I am new to SP (started Monday) but I am already very excited about the weight coming off. I am glad to hear that I am not the only one that finds it hard to fit in exercise. Because of my job, I barely have time to get home and make dinner and spend time with my 9 year old daughter before she has to go to bed. I am learning how to incorporate my exercise time with my family time. We just try to do more things together. Sometimes it is difficult, but it is easier than trying to fit both family and exercise time in separately.

I look forward to getting to know all of you!!

Except for lately (I've was really busy at work and then sick), I get a 20-30 minute walk after I've dropped the kids off but before work. And then my normal workout time is at night after the kids go to bed. But I'm not a morning person so I'm normally up pretty late at night. And I just remind myself that 30 or 45 minutes is such a small amount of time and that I'll feel better afterwards. That normally works. And if after 10 minutes of working out I feel exhausted, then I just listen to my body and stop.

My usual workouts are during my lunch time. I also try to squeese in some at home when I can. I find that I can do about 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes after the kids are asleep at night. On saturdays I try to get up before the kids and squeeze in thirty minutes.

Welcome to our group Pamela,
If you lucky enough to get an hour for lunch try searching out a club near the office and go on lunch break. I did that until my club closed emoticon

I don't think that I would do so well with a positive challenge lately! I haven't managed to lose any weight for 3 weeks despite working out fairly regularly and eating within my calorie range every day. It's a bit frustrating. So I'm going to try to refocus for June.

I'm also frustrated with my job and I have officially decided that I'm going to slowly start to look for a new one. My husband and I think that we want to move to another state so we are trying to narrow down the possibility by October and then come up with a plan for visiting the cities on our list. Right now we are focusing on Boston, Portland, Baltimore, and the SF Bay Area. Now we just have to find a company that is will to pay to relocate one or both of us - it's not likely but we can still dream. emoticon

i think we need some motivation here!
i propose a positive challenge:
we should post each day at least 1 thing we are proud of.
i'll start, yesterday: even tho i was tired after work and supper etc i put DS in jogger stroller and walked to the park. DS had fun feeding the ducks and i got a small amount of excercise.

Hi Ladies I'm also new to this group. My problem seems to stick to the excercise part cause most of the time I can stick to the food:) I also work as a secretary for a ship repair firm and coming home to 2 small but lively kids also doesn't help...lol I know any excuse helps:))

I wish I had some time saving tips! That's why I am here. I like the idea of getting everything ready on Sunday. I am hopefully going to try that this Sunday. We'll see how it goes.

Persistence, not consistency, is key. If I slip up, I will get right back on track.

I need some help, this has been the week from hell and it's only Wed. We just got word that our company may be closing and the health club I go to is also going to close. So needless to say I need help staying on track and out of the junk food.
Hope everyone is doing well

Hello everyone! I just joined this group. I'm hoping everyone can keep me on track and give me some good tips. I am happily married with one son who will be 2 in August, hopefully we will have another one on the way in the next couple months! I also work full time. I love this website! It has already helped me to lose 10 lbs but more importantly it is helping me learn to eat healthy.

Persistence, not consistency, is key. If I slip up, I will get right back on track.

i like to keep a variety of frozen veg in the freezer so if i wanna make a quick stir-fry or pasta with a veg-tomato sauce i have ingredients to hand.

i freeze things like soup in small containers so i can defrost a portion at a time instead of heasting up a whole pot an then half will go to waste.

Other time savers -
On Sundays I:
Boil eggs for the week.
Put fruit and veggies in baggies for the week.
Put crackers in baggies for the week. (mine and kids)
Cook a pot brown rice for the week.

I also keep some food staples at work to so I never have to worry about lunch. I restock once a week.(cereal, milk, tuna, oatmeal, carrots, yogurt, crackers, popcorn) I go to the gym during my lunch break so I need to keep something handy at work.

My biggest time saver for meal prep is frozen chicken breast tenders, frozen shrimp, ground beef, ground turkey, mixed veggies. All of these can go from frozen to the table in 30 to 45 minutes. Just add pasta, and you have a meal. Oh yea my second is a good wok, for one skillet meals, minimizes clean up.

Time saving tips...

1) lay out everyone's clothes the night before (mine too!)

2) pack all backpacks, laptop bags, sports bags, and lunches the night before, and put everything by the door with the jackets on top (except lunches, they go in the fridge and a post it note goes on the counter so we don't forget).

Obviously we have a time issue getting out of the house in the morning! Everyone likes to sleep too much!

Hi Audrey,
Sorry I'm a little behind on my reading here.
Your post sounds like a cry for help. Do you have a physical (people to see/talk to)support network that you can turn to for help?
I am not a professional but how about change the way you think about weight loss. Just do little things; like walks, bike ride w/ kids, play catch. Try this too; don't change WHAT you eat just change the amount, if you normaly fill your plate then cut it in half or use a smaller dish. And DON"T finish the kid's food. Don't feel guilty put it in the trash can. YOU ARE NOT A TRASH CAN! Yes there are starving people in the world, but there are also people killing themselves w/ food. emoticon
Trick your mind into thinking healthy, don't exercise, play.
If I have overstepped my bounds here I'm sorry, I heard your cry for help and HAD to answer.
If you wish to e-mail me in private do so

God Bless you and good luck
