I have a Garmin Zumo 550 that I use on my motorcycle and car. I can enter coordinates so I will give it a try. The GPS has a rechargeable battery so I can carry it around.

I think any GPS will work. I used mine from my car. But on the site they show the handheld type used for hiking. I think if you can but latitude and longitude cordinates in it you are good to go!

Geocaching is something I would not mind trying. Sounds like great exercise and fun. Will any type of GPS work or is there a simpler one for the purpose?

Geocaching is like a treasure hunt. You go on the website geocaching.com (you have to register, but it is free). Put in your zip code/address and how far you are willing to travel from your area (I put in 20miles as I'm a newbie). Several spots will be listed where someone else has hidden a cache (usually a small box or bottle)in your area. You use a GPS or the map directions provided along with any clues given to find what was hidden. So we drove part of the way, then once we got to the general location had to do some walking to find the actual cache. The caches we found just contained a log sheet to mark that we had been there, but sometimes there are small trinkets (toys, pictures, etc.) to exchange for something you are leaving. You log that you were there, leave an item if you wish and put the cache back exactly where you found it so that someone else can find it next. So, basically it is a big treasure hunt, but we found to be a fun way to get out and walk and get some fresh air! :)

To enjoy the beautiful weather we are having in SE MO, today my husband and I decide to give geocaching a try. It did require a bit of walking (and climbing at the first place!). But we did find both caches we set out for. There was nothing special to take/leave but it was great to get out and have some fresh air and exercise and have a treasure hunt too! I think we may have found a fun outdoor activity we both like and hope to continue.

My husband says I am a money magnet when I walk, run, workout - whatever, I always find something. One jog, I did find a $5.00 bill - SWEETNESS...

Today, at the gym of all places, nestled underneath the bench, I found a shiny dime! 10 cents for shoulder presses! Woo hoo... guess he is right.

The "treasure" I found was my ability to run for a sustained period of time yesterday! I haven't run in a while....too heavy, too much on my knees. But, it was warm enough to walk outside yesterday and I decided to throw in some running and I did great and it felt great! A real treasure!!

When, the weather is nice we take our dog Mac with us on bike rides. We have a WALKYDOG that hooks him to the bike and he runs/pulls beside us. The other day he found his way into the room where I was doing the stationary bike, sat down beside where he would be hooked up on the regular bike and looked at me like "What the heck, why are we not going anywhere here?" I had to laugh out loud!

Yeah, finally, halfway decent weather (53 degrees! and sunny)... not bad with proper attire.

Not sure what it is with the lighters - found 3 this time... just laughed and counted them - was looking to find more, but had short run today. Also met 2 other runners today who were out !!!

I love walking or wogging outside too! With all of this snow (and with my work schedule) I've been using the elliptical every day instead. It lives in the spare bedroom and I have a TV in there to watch while I work out. The other night I was laughing so hard while watching Two and Half Men that my husband had to come in and check on me. He thought I was gasping for air!

Haven't done any outdoors walking since the beginning of winter but I sure do miss all the little background noises - birds singing, dogs barking, a jack hammer going etc and the fresh smell of the early morning outdoors!

Wish the cold weather would GO AWAY... anyway, running on treadmill last night so I obviously didn't FIND anything... you know how treadmills are...

my towel falls off the handrail! Had to hurdle over a towel going down the treadmill - lucky I didn't crash and burn...I did receive an ovation from the other gym members!!!

I live on what used to be a golf course and the path I take to walk/jog on goes along the course. Today I saw 2 doe and a buck. They didn't seem to mind that I was on 'their' land. They just looked at me and almost kind of nodded hello and then went back to grazing!

1/4/11 - so today I planned to leave work on time and head to the gym to get some cardio in. Got there and changed by 5:30 pm - my trainer hollered at me to see her in her office. Never got on that treadmill - left the gym at 8:00 pm having done ZERO cardio, but gaining 2-1/2 hours of valuable chat time with my hard to get trainer and friend.

A couple years ago on an early morning jog I saw a huge dog running out a driveway up ahead and it stopped at the edge of the sidewalk. As i slowed down and got closer i realized it wasn't a dog, but a beautiful doe. it stared at me for a minute and then ran off.

i still smile when i think about it.

Love it! Be careful to look where you're running, walking, wogging, or jogging because I have found that drivers are not always looking out for us! See my blog: Watch out for me please!

The most exciting thing that happened to me was I lost the rubber tip on my ear-bud while doing the treadmill this morning and surprisingly found it again. My water bottle (thankfully closed) fell and I had to do a Donkey Kong and avoid tripping over it as it rolled down the treadmill. See inside walking has it's dangers too! LOL
