My weigh in is tomorrow, not expecting any big numbers, this cycle has been a real struggle for me even though I have been on track except for today. Not getting enough protein in I am thinking. Just haven't been hungry this past few days.

Thanks for the update - so important to hear this over and over again ... the scale is but one measure of the progress we each are making .... have a great evening!

An update - it's 3 days later and just as I knew it would, the weight I gained came off and I lost an additional 2 lbs. so I'm right on track. That's why I'm not a scale fanatic. It would drive me nuts if I was!

I gained a pound too, odd. Anyways, I got my cast off and have started exercising so it was really a shock. I'm glad I read these posts. I don't feel so bad now.

Gabby, thanks for the lesson and reminder! I think these weird stalls or even gains really are our bodies adjusting to a new cycle of eating. It's so true that the end result is the important thing.

Linda!!!! You sooooo rock! Size Large?!?!?!?! That is incredible! I'm so happy for you and proud of you!! emoticon

Cindy and Erin, I feel the exact same way about this team. I appreciate all of you so much, and at least once a day, I think "I'll have to share this with the team!" Cindy, I like the way you phrased it: "Thank you for being alive in my lifetime". I love that attitude of gratitude. emoticon to all of you!

Oh for sure, look at the broader picture. Last December, I wore a 3x winter coat and yesterday I bought a size LARGE!!!!!!!!!! I have only been on this diet since April and I am wearing a LARGE coat. I don't ever remember the last time I had a large coat on...it has always be xl or xxl and this last one was 3xl. The scale is a great tool, but it isn't your only one.

Vikingbabe blogged about all the inches she lost on C1. She lost 5.1 lbs but lost over 16 inches over all. So what would you rather lose inches or pounds? Muscle weighs more than fat :) Here's her blog:

So true LilSparkGirl. I have come to use the scale as a guide but I have to be very "measured" about how I see the numbers ... I know I'm following the eating plan well (now that I have figured it out more clearly for myself) and I know how much I'm moving (or not) ... it's a VAST improvement over what I was doing and not doing well 2 months ago - so for me - while the numbers are incredibly frustrating I have to reflect on the choices I'm making every day. There are some foods I used to have stocked in my kitchen that don't even sound good, smell good, or seem enticing now. That's progress. Yes - eventually the numbers will need to move --- but for now -- I'm eternally grateful that I myself am moving in the right direction. I have to trust that the numbers will follow.

My scale has been stubborn for the last two days only going down 1/10 each day. I've grown accustomed to big losses. Thank God my scale measures in10ths or I would think that I hadn't lost a thing. I went to the secrets site on spark this morning and read a bunch on plateau and feel much better.

We are the ones we've been waiting for.

I just have to say - you didn't gain. The scale might be up, but that can be caused by many, many things. I was freaking out when I went up a lb or half a lb but within a day or so, it goes away again. Yes, it's hard when it is more than a couple days, but it's not a real gain.

First goal 18lbs by June 1

4/1-4/7 6lbs

I know what you mean by that scale going up. It is good to hear what you feel since I feel pretty much the same way. My body did the a little weight gain one week then drop big the next week so I won't panic till I see that for 2 weeks in a row. I weigh in on Monday first time to see how 17DD is working. My heartburn has went away so that is my big motivation to stay with this diet. This is a very good topic so I will be checking back here often. Judi

Gabby,
all I can say is the flax seed oil with a smoothie makes me use the bathroom a LOT!! I find when I use that for the day for my "friendly" fat = bathroom!! So the probiotic and flaxseed oil...yup! I hate to be too TMI. So sorry for the crudeness. I eat a LOT of apples to. I take an iron supplement 2 times a day, and I have not had a problem with constipation. Try it out and see.

PS. I also replied to my blog...lemme know what you think!

Thanks for your encouragement!!

well if constipation is caused from a lazy digestive or a ill digestion than yes. But (always a but) if it is caused from bad eating like; lack of water and fiber intake...probable wouldn't work as fast or as well. If a person eats wrong it is not a laxative, but can only help digest what should be there to take and use and pass what waste should be waste. On this plan it would be a positive plus as long as we are doing all we are suppose to be doing. It can't hurt as long as we are eating correctly. It helps heal and keep a healthy digestive track...when we are eating the way we should. It is a plus.

I track all what I eat and drink with him, he said he was afraid that I wasn't in great shape when I started and actually should have done a full cleanse before detoxi. But what is, is what is.
I have had issues with my upper bowel for many years, a long story.
A healthy bowel, colon, digestive system is one of the most important things next to the liver for optimal health, to be able to drop weight. If either one is off, so will the weight loss.
It will be a struggle. The bowel has to eliminate at the least every 12 hours. He would prefer that elimination would occur twice daily.
He told me to check and make sure that the yogurt I am using states that it has active cultures, that it would not hurt to take both until I develop a regular moment. Then I could back off on the enzymes and stick with the probiotics and probiotic foods.
Makes sense to me.

@Erin - did he tell that probiotics would help with constipation? I have been taking them in addition to my yogurt, because I only usually eat one serving (unitl I made the homemade yogurt). I wonder if that's why this round is different and not the prunes, because it's the first time on C1 that I am not constipated.

Great post and also shares here. Such great information for all of us.
Gabby you will be back dropping in no time, I have such faith in you and also 17DD.
Linda wow, great buys and what size are you in!? Lady take a bow you deserve it!!

I was up this AM. But I am not defeated or even upset and you ask why? OK maybe not, but here is what I am doing and why; I still am having issues with the bathroom moments or should I say movements LOL Sorry . Gabby prunes didn't get anything moving even though very tasty.
So I went and invested in probiotics and digestive enzymes all organic, per my nutritionist.
I have seen a natural nutritionist since my heart attack 2 years ago. He is good and allows me to be an idiot at times, but has helped me a great deal.
We shall see what tomorrow brings.

You are so different here than in some groups; up front and honest...I really admire this about this team. You don't candy coat anything, face it, own it and keep going. BRAVO! This team seems one of the healthiest I have seen....it shows that the leadership here, has set pace and has done a great job. I am totally impressed with the maturity here and the bond you all show, with a wee bit of fun as well.

I am so glad to be here.

EXCELLENT POST Gabby. Do you remember when you and I started this....I was struggling to get into Onderland and you were struggling to reach Twoville. I remember when you wanted to give up and you perservered and saw it through and look at you now!!!!! I am so proud of you.
Listen, I was on day 3 round 1 when I gained weight and I was devistated. Then it happened again after going down a few lbs and I would modify what I was eating and what I was doing and then it would go down again. It really hasn't happened that I have gained until mid way through my 3rd round and then again just a few days ago. Now I am struggling just to get below 180, but it is going to happen and it is going to happen very soon, I can feel it in my bones lol. I think that the way our metabolisms are, we are going to fluctuate on a monthyly if not weekly basis, be it 1 lb or 1 oz or 6 oz or whatever. We will have to modify from time to time to get that off and that is just life.
I am so glad that when I gained the first time (3 days into cycle 1 round 1), that I didn't give up right then and say, this is like every other diet.

Today, I went out to buy some new pants. I went to Value Village, because the way I look at it, why spend $50 on a pair of pants when they aren't going to fit for too much longer, may as well buy some used ones. So I got 2 pair of regular size 14's. OMG, do you know when the last time I bought regular size pants were and not in the plus sizes???? I am actually wearing a pair of 13's, but I think I got them in the plus size, so they are probably a 14 or 15 regular. Then I was looking at jackets for the winter. I am wearing or would have been wearing a 3x because I can't afford a new jacket for the winter. Well I found a beautiful faux sheepskin car coat with faux fur lining (gonna be extremely warm) and it was $15.00. I HAD to buy it and the big thing about this coat is that it is a LARGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and there is room for a sweater if needed. All I had to do, was tighten up the buttons on it. Now I am set for the winter.
I couldn't have done that without the 17DD and I couldn't have gotten throught the little gains here and there if it hadn't have been for the 17DD team. Thanks ladies (and gents) I love each and every one of youemoticon

Great post Gabby and so true! I gained a pound from yesterday but after sitting here and pondering what I did yesterday or didn't do - I didn't have a yogurt - dropped my green tea when I got to work and just didn't feel like licking it up off the floor! And I too ate late. I know any time I eat late in the day that the next morning the scale won't like me.

I weigh daily - and sometimes think I need to knock it off but when you see the scale move a half pound down it pumps you up for the day. LOL but I also never feel guilty so when I see the scale move up I don't get all ticked off at myself and do something to try and change it. Maybe I need to change that mindset and get a little mad at myself to kick it up a notch.

But I digress......thank you for sharing Gabby - because you are so right!

An after-thought.......notice on The Biggest Loser that there are some weeks when the contestants only lose say 2#, or stay the same or gain? They are burning up to 5000 calories thru exercise every day....so, based on numbers alone, they should all be guaranteed at least a 6# drop every single week (assuming they're puttin' in 2000 cals a day in food)......

So - case in point - even the best effort can show disappointing results on the scale occasionally....

Chin up everyone - just keep on truckin' - y'all are doin' fine!!!

I find that when I maintain for days or gain, even though I'm being 100% compliant, I end up with a huge weight loss soon. It's just a wierd thing my body does. Even when I gain from PMS, just as soon as my hormones are back on an even level, BAM!, there's a big weight drop.

Thank you so much for being there...all of you! The scale read a pound higher this morning and I couldn't believe my eyes! I thought maybe I had recorded the wrong weight yesterday. it's the first gain that I've had since I started this new way of eating. The weather here in Oregon is in flux right now so it's good to know that I haven't blown it. I went over the foods that I ate yesterday and just couldn't figure it out.

I love having everyone on here as a support system. You are all awesome! I've been doing spark off and on for around ten years but never have I felt a part of a group. Thank you for being alive in my lifetime, Peace, Cindy

A change in the weather (winter is coming on for you guys), barometric pressure changes that cause greater gravitational pull can also cause scale 'gains'. As long as we're feeding our body what it needs and moving it around everyday.....ignore these fluctuations - they will pass!!

When in compliance, please resist the temptation to self-scold/punish!! It just causes undo stress - which causes........what????.......(all together now)......"weight gain"!!!

EXCELLENT post!!! emoticon

This is so important for everyone to hear! Newbies and those of us who have been here for months. WEIGHT FLUCTUATES! It happens. It doesn't mean you are a failure - it means that you are human and your body is adjusting normally.

It is why I am constantly saying - be kind to yourself. Unless you went on a hellacious bend and ate 3500 calories...it is not a gain of fat.

So emoticon to Gabby for putting the honesty out there and recognizing this is not detrimental to your journey!!

EXCELLENT LESSON!!

Since I weighed myself 3 days ago I gained 1.6 lbs.!!! emoticon

So, in 3 days, not only did I not lose any weight but I GAINED!! 1.6LBS.!!! BooHoo!!

I'm writing this for all the Newbies - I am NOT panicking! This is my 4th go at C1, and all of us "pros" know that this is NORMAL for C1. As our body adjusts to all the changes, our weight can really fluctuate down and up. I may gain another pound in the next few days, or I could stay at this weight for another 3 days; but I do know that at the end of the cycle, I will have lost a lot more than when I started.

There could be a lot of reasons that contributed to the gain:
-It's not TOM because I'm post-menopausal (but it could be a reason for others)
-I ate a higher sodium meal
-I didn't exercise the last 2 days due to leg pain (inflammmation also causes water retention)
-I didn't drink enough water the other day
-I ate too late the last two days
-the lemon water I drank this morning weighed 8oz. so I'm really up only a few ounces :)

There could be a host of reasons; and when you don't lose, or worse - gain, it's good to analyze if there is something you did differently, or didn't do correctly, that contributed. If there is - you can change it.

So the moral of the story is - don't get discouraged and go off the diet. I almost did that in round one. I gained and got so upset that after all my "sacrifice", I wasn't losing as fast as I thought that I should. I almost quit and binged, like I did on every other diet, but I stuck with it. I decided that no matter what the scale showed, I would follow the 17 days exactly, and then decide if it was for me

Here I am - a little over 5 months later. I do weigh a LOT less than when I started, I'm down a couple of clothing sizes, but more important is how much better I feel physically.

*Note- re:"sacrifice" listen to some fatloser.com tapes about how that kind of thinking sets you up to fail.
