Shelly - Welcome! Please feel free to ask any questions, share ideas, express struggles, etc. We are a small team but we know that this diet, when followed (of course), certainly works. It isn't always easy to follow the plan to the letter, but the more compliant we are, the better results we see.

June - So good to see your post. Woo hoo for 2 good days. Each good day gets us a little closer to goal.

I am back on plan today after a less-than-compliant weekend. My plan for our evening meal is grilled chicken breasts, a very big salad, and steamed broccoli. I had my usual breakfast (Live Active Cottage Cheese and a fruit....today my fruit was a pear..very delicious). For me this breakfast really sets the tone for a compliant day.

Best wishes for staying on track! emoticon emoticon

Hey Tammy, looks like its just the two of us. I restarted Saturday and had 2 good days. I didn't weight myself at the start because I was afraid of what the scale would say, think I'll jump on the scale after 5 days.

Hope everything is well with you.

June :)

June - even if you are not following the plan to the letter, simply applying some of the principles of healthy eating is good. I understand work stress. I retired almost 4 years ago after over 30 years of working at the same place. And I don't miss it at all. I have never been happier.

Today I did well and got in my extra walking at the grocery store, as holding on to the cart really helps me with my bad knees. It was a good day all around.

Tammy, not gaining weight is good too!

It really is hard to stay on track especially when work is stressful. To be honest I haven't really tried very hard lately. I did eat well today, hoping tomorrow will be the same for me.

June - Glad you are still here....I know it is not easy to get back on track

It is so quiet here lately. I wonder where everyone is.

I am doing fine. Held my own without gaining over the weekend when confronted with many challenges. Wise choices are becoming second nature more and more to me.

June - I just read about how having as little as one glass of wine can cause us to go off plan, and then I read your post. I suspect we just get a bit more "carefree" with alcohol in our system. I enjoy a glass of wine now and then but am not supposed to have any alcohol because of one of the meds I take for my RA. I can't say I never have a drink, but it is a rarity for me these days.

I had a pretty good day today, not not as totally compliant as I have been recently. I will get right back on track tomorrow. Lots of healthy veggies on hand so that helps a lot.

Glad everything is going well for you, I wish I could find my strength again.

Work was stressful this past week so I failed once again. I have a family dinner tonight and nothing else on the books so tomorrow I will try once again. I usually only drink once a week but that is usually when I fall off the diet train and then want to eat everything in sight as well. I am going to not drink for a month so I can get myself back on track again.

I have been doing pretty well...after a string of so-so days, I have been back on track and feeling strong. The weekly organic produce delivery I started to receive several weeks ago really helps. The produce is beautiful, and having it delivered every week is to me like getting a Christmas present on our doorstep every Thursday. Then on Friday nights I get to "write to Santa" again when I reply to the email to customize our produce box for the coming week. It is a great system.

It's been rather quiet here. I hope everyone is doing well and even if you aren't doing well, check in here. We are all here to support each other.

June - You are so right about needing to bounce right back after we stray. I do think that the more we do this the easier it gets. I don't feel too deprived if I manage my "blips" this way. The "all or nothing" thinking is one thing that really does me in. Drinking water to flush out the water gain seemed to work for me.

I am in the midst of another on track day. My motivation is high. I weighed again and am down 3 more pounds for a total of 4 this week....after basically treading water for a few weeks. It is so good to see the scale moving in the right direction again.

Tammy, glad to see the scale went in the right direction for you. Keep it up :)

I myself had a blip Thurs and Tonight but I am getting right back on track. I have to learn do live life like this and need to learn to bounce right back after a night out so I am totally ok with living it up. I don't expect the scale to be nice to me for a few days, probably going to retain water some water.

I am exactly on track today and feel great. Guess what. I weighed in today even though I didn't think I'd be brave enough to do so. Well, despite yesterday's "blip," I dropped another pound. I guess I wasn't as bad as I thought I was...and apparently no water weight gain either.

Hard to believe it is Friday already. Hope this weekend goes well for everyone!

Outstanding June! Feels great, doesn't it?

I had a bit of a blip today but got right back on track. So I will avoid Mr. Scale for a while, just so I don't get discouraged...I think I will likely have some water weight gain. Onward and downward (in terms of weight that is).

I finished yesterday strong and the scale showed. I am not positive how much I've lost so far.. I didn't get on the scale the first day, was afraid of what it would say. I just need to remind myself if I eat off plan a meal I can get right back on and I have to start doing that. I am going to do it. emoticon

I was on track until last night, I had 3 beers and a potato. Lunch today I ate like I was on cycle 2 but back on track for dinner.

Tammy a few bumps in the roads won't hurt as long as we have the strength to get right back on.

Daisy, I agree with Tammy.. As long as you know you'll get back on track it's probably ok.

I feel your pain Daisy! Struggles are so tough and can be overpowering. Dr. Mike talks about the 3 bite rule. If you can contain yourself at 3 bites of whatever you are craving I say go for it. But if it will trigger you to eat more than that....do your best to find an acceptable substitute....I know celery is not a pretzel, but it is crunchy. Maybe some celery with just a little peanut butter will satisfy you. Sometimes I find the combination of fat and protein settles down my cravings. Or perhaps an apple with just a dab of peanut butter might help. Do your best.....you are worth it!

I am on track again today. My challenge tonight is my monthly meeting of one of the service organizations I belong to. We order from a menu but often the healthy choices at this restaurant are limited. I think I'll be ok with a salad...but oh, their fried pickles are so good. I saw a post on another team today that I plan to keep in mind....."Losing weight is hard. Being fat is hard...Choose your hard." That makes so much sense to me.

Have a great day everyone!

I am on day 16 of C1 and have lost 6.4lbs so far. I haven't lost anything in the past 3 days. I have pretty much followed the program so far except for flavor coffee and that isn't daily.

Anyway, today I am struggling. I really want something like pretzels or something crunchy (not carrots). How bad with this screw me up?

C2 lost 5lbs

I am almost all better from that nasty bug that I had. Today I am back on track and happy to be eating on plan after a week of floundering and not having much energy.

Dana - Glad to see your post. Thanks for the tip on the cookbook. I LOVE cookbooks, and have quite a few, yet still add more to my collection.

I am looking forward to getting back on track as soon as this bug goes away. I am taking an antibiotic now, as is my son. I am improving a little better than he is, but I was hit with this bug a few days before him so he has to catch up with me.

Here comes the weekend friends! Are we ready???

Another quick check in. I am feeling a bit better. I started on an antibiotic yesterday, and already I notice improvement. DS went to his doctor today and was prescribed the same antibiotic. I still have no interest in food, no appetite either. So while I am not exactly on plan, my choices are healthy ones. I didn't weigh in today, but will expect to see a loss next time I face Mr. Scale.

Welcome to our new and returning members. Not sure why things have been so quiet here lately. Perhaps our teammates are under the weather too.

Sending positive thoughts to all. Let's do this!

Hi All,

I am just checking in quickly as I am still under the weather and not up to doing much. And now DS has it again too. We seem to keep passing this bug back and forth between the 2 of us. It is a bit rough with the 2 of us feeling so icky at the same time. Ugh! I am not eating exactly on plan but am making wise choices, considering I have no energy to cook and essentially no desire for food (not a bad thing, really). I perked a bit just now which is what brought me to my computer. I have some good news in that I went to see my rheumatologist yesterday (a friend drove me....close to 2 hours each way) and had a good report. Also, my lab work came back good, which is always a relief. The doctor told me his wife has the same bug I have and he said it is because she didn't get a flu shot (neither did I but DS did). It seems that this bug is pretty busy. Several folks from our church are also dealing with it. Well, in any case, I think I am on the upswing and should be back to semi-normal pretty soon. If all goes as planned, I might even make a quick run to the grocery store tomorrow.

Hope everyone is healthy and happy and doing well.

Speaking of not enough calories - On cycle 1, under the heading "Meal Planning made Easy", Page 46, he recommends for breakfast, 2 eggs or 4 egg whites plus a fruit serving,(or a probiotic food). Then on his first sample menu on day 1, he gives you 2 egg whites and 1/2 grapefruit. This amounts to 76 calories, according to Spark. How is this enough to keep you going until lunch? Other days on the same sample meal plan, he has 2 whole eggs plus the fruit. That makes more sense to me. I think it must be a mistake. Anyway, I had the Greek egg scramble from day 9 plus a half grapefruit this morning.

I am redoing Cycle 1 for a few days as I overindulged in sugary stuff yesterday and gained a pound and a half. Lots of water and no sugar today!

Joan

Hi ladies. I noticed all the talk about kefir - I use kefir grains and make my own. Much cheaper that way and have been doing it for years for health reasons. Very good for you. On cycle two and have not lost any weight except for a 6 lb drop during cycle one. I think once again I have fallen into not eating enough calories which was a problem for me on this diet years ago. May need to track again. Also needing to add in more fat - olive oil for me.
Welcome Joaniedee - hope this diet goes well for you.
Tammy - sounds like you are right on track for March. Great way to start out the new month.

I had the kefir smoothie this morning and really liked it. I made it with 1 cup 2% plain unsweetened kefir, 1 cup frozen mango chunks, 1 Tbsp no sugar-added blueberry jam and 1 Tbsp olive oil. Not too sweet, just right. I had to add a little water to it as it was way too thick.

I would have used blueberries for it, but was all out of frozen fruit except for the mango.

Joanie - Let us know how you like the smoothie recipe if you try it. I might try it too. I might get to the grocery store tomorrow. If I do, I'll try to remember to pick up some unsweetened kefir. My DS love kefir....but the sweetened fruity kind. I buy it for him once in a while but not a lot as it is kind of pricey...but I know it is healthy, so maybe I'll buy him a fruit flavored one too.

Oh, okay. I saw the sweetened fruity kinds also; but didn't check the carbs. That is a lot; due to all the added sugar, I guess. I like the kefir with a little no-sugar-added jam as he recommends. There's a recipe in the book for a kefir smoothie that I'm going to try.

Thanks Joanie. I did see some unsweetened kefir but was reluctant to try it, and it is more difficult to find. Now I think I will try it. The 8 carbs is not a bad number in my humble opinion. The sweetened versions of kefir which are much easier to find around here have carb counts in the high 20s and upward.

Hi, Tammy, the brand of kefir I have is Liberte 2% plain. It has 8 grams of carb per cup. I don't know if you can get it in the States - it's a Canadian brand. I didn't worry about the carbs - Dr. Mike just specified plain unsweetened.

Joanie - Congrats on dropping 3.5 pounds. I have had kefir but not since I've been doing this diet. All of the kefir I see in the stores is high in carbs. What kind did you find?

So far I am on track today. Later I am going to a dinner meeting for one of the service organizations I belong to. At this meeting we order from the menu. I usually order a chicken caesar salad with the dressing on the side, and usually don't even use any dressing. I heard that there might be some new items on the menu tonight. So maybe there will be some other healthy options for me. In the past the caesar salad has been the wisest choice.

Let's make March a marvelous month!

Hi, Tammy,

I am having a good week, also. Today is Day 8 of cycle one for me, and I have lost 3.5 lbs since starting. So I am super happy!

I am enjoying all the food, and I haven't had cravings or been hungry all week. I did have one glass of wine which isn't on the program, but I still lost. I tried kefir for a smoothie a few days ago, and I liked it. I haven't had it before. I had the Greek egg scramble again this morning and it's now 12:46pm and I'm not even hungry for lunch yet!

Looking forward to my second week.

Happy Leap Day everyone!

Hope this is a super day for all of us.
I am well on track today and continue to feel good. My breakfast of Breakstone Live Active Cottage Cheese and orange really sets the tone for me for the day. My grocery list and coupons are ready for my shopping trip later today. I always feel so pleased when I am checking out with a grocery cart filled with healthy non-processed foods. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

A quick check in after a very compliant day. I didn't do a whole lot, but I did cook. I am feeling pretty good lately which is great, given my several "ailments." I am willing to bet that at least some of my improved health is due to the healthy foods I eat on this plan.

Let's make this a good week. Can you believe March starts this week already? Every day we get closer to spring makes me happy. emoticon

MJ – Your cabbage recipe sounds great. I plan to try it next time I pick up some cabbage. I used to live on weight watchers cabbage soup many years ago when I was doing WW. I love cabbage so your recipe is right up my alley. Thanks for sharing it.

Sabina – Sounds like you have come up with a plan that could very well work for you. Woo hoo for coming up with it.

Joanie- Good for you for indulging in the wine and getting right back on track. I had a glass of wine on Thursday when I went to dinner with some friends. It was the first glass of wine I’ve had in ages. I enjoyed every sip and had no trouble getting right back on plan, just like you.

Today was a very compliant day for me. I logged my food as usual and am under my recommended calories but am ok about that as usually I hit at least the low end of my range. I walked a lot of steps today, though I don’t have a counter that counts steps. I just know how busy I was and how much I moved. I’m tired now but not exhausted, so that is a good thing. I am expecting a compliant but more relaxing day tomorrow.
A blessed Sunday to all!

I started last Monday, and stayed on track oll week. I am down 3 lbs so far! I did have a glass of wine last night, but it didn't affect my weight this morning, I stayed the same. Back to total compliance today.

This morning I had his Greek Egg scramble, and it is delicious! I used goat cheese crumbles instead of the feta, as it makes the eggs very creamy, and it has the same amount of fat as the lite feta.

Well, I ended up doing semi phase 1, there were few non phase 1 days. I am going to try 14 days of phase 2 like plan, 3 carb days, 4 non carb days. On my carb days I would like to burn 500 cal from exercise and keep my calorie intake around 1400, other days around 1200-1300 cal /day with 250 cal of exercise.

MJ, you are doing so well with your weight loss. Keep up the good work.

Tammy, as always you are so focus. You definitely are committed.

Thanks

Yesterday went off track - planned for it for a free restaurant birthday meal (had to get it before month end). Didn't plan on sundae they brought at the end - oh well, husband and I share both meal and treat. Discovered something I really really like for a recipe. Brown ground turkey, onions. Add in head chopped cabbage, can or two of chopped/crushed tomatoes. I also threw in some green pepper, red pepper, tomatoes, garlic. Cook about 30 minutes to cabbage consistency you prefer. Also discovered that I like to eat a lot of food - not really meat but veggies so I am eating lots veggies (large portions) for now.

MJ - 6 pounds down....Woo Hoo! Way to go!

I had another good compliant day. Tomorrow I plan to grocery shop before going out to dinner with some friends. My lists and my coupons are ready. I noted that both haddock and salmon are on sale this week. I am thinking of buying at least some salmon. I find it very satisfying and filling.

Wishing everyone a terrific Thursday!

Tammy - glad your dinner went well. I know you feel good that you didn't gain. I am straying off plan tomorrow but also "will get right back on."

Lots of answers at physical therapy so feeling better about that. So far 6 pounds down and 6 more days on cycle 1. Upping food intake - if I am not conscious about this I end up undereating and then hungry. Been done this road before. Made yogurt last night so that will help. Glad to have finally started and stopped the upward swing.

Sabina – Glad you caught yourself and returned to the 17DD before any weight gain got out of control. That shows good insight on your part. I understand the need for making modifications such as those you mentioned. If it works and it is healthy…go for it!

MJ – Yard work can be very grueling. Be careful not to overdo it.

Sorry I have been MIA for a few days. I had my dinner party on Sunday and was quite fatigued afterward. The dinner party went well, and everyone seemed to have a great time. I ate in moderation, but I did stray from plan. When I weighed in today I stayed the same, no loss, no gain…that’s ok with me. I did get right back on plan on Monday so maybe that took care of any gain I might have had. My energy level was amazingly high today, and I accomplished a lot at home today, so I am proud of myself. Tomorrow I am able to stay at home and do more chores, perhaps even get my taxes ready for my accountant (a task I dread even though it is not difficult). A few more challenges for me this week…. dinner plans with some friends on Thursday and lunch plans with a friend on Friday. I know I will complain about the sodium in the restaurant foods, but I am committed to eating well and sticking as close to plan as possible.

Hope everyone is doing well. Face your challenges with a commitment to yourself. You can do it!

Sabina - good job getting at those few extra pounds. If I would have done that, I wouldn't be back here again.

Tammy - that is hard staying to the diet when out with others eating. You did it though so shows you can!

Busy weekend (if I do the housecleaning that is so needed). Our weather is beautiful so I keep finding myself doing yard work (which is not really what I should be doing due to physical therapy). Need to go grocery shopping so I have the foods I can eat.

Round 2, phase 1, day 4

Last weekend was the family day long weekend for us here in Canada and I ended up eating too much. Monday morning my weight shot up 2 lbs. So I decided to reduce my workout to burn 250-300 cal/day and come back to 17 DD , phase 1. I also added some cheese, nuts, some milk to keep my calorie around 1200/day. I stayed 4 day on phase one and my weight moved again. Like First time I had terrible headache for the first two days. Then eventually it gets better. Since I am eating more this time around I am feeling better. I plan to continue this for 17 days.

MJ, you did awesome. It is very hard to stay on track on the scale is not on your side.

Tammy, it is so good to see your progress. You are so strong that you can control in a social outing. Keep up the good work.

MJ - Great news and I applaud you for staying strong when the scale was being difficult. Way to go!

I was on track today...went to a fish dinner at my former church where I still have tons of friends. Was able to have baked fish and veggies...passed on the potatoes and desserts. Will be super busy on Saturday prepping for Sunday. Sheesh, I'm tired already!

Finally, the scale goes down. Day 7 and scale is now showing 4 lbs down from the weight I started at. I am most proud that I stuck completely to the diet even though the scale was showing the phantom weight gain. Looking to the book today for maybe some recipe ideas (starting to want something else).

Tammy - good that you can cook for others and still stick to the diet. In cycle 1 there is no way I will keep to the foods if I cooked for others. I have gone to two food events since I started and stayed with the right foods. So tom came (way early) which explains the wackiness of weight gain. I feel good that I have stayed the course without cheating even without the loss as motivation.

Cyndi – Oh yes , I am looking forward to summer produce prices but they seem eons away at the moment. I really miss good tomatoes….just can’t find any good ones around here. I made great progress with the laundry yesterday. Almost all caught up.

MJ – Stick with it as best you can. A former poster here used to always remind us that this diet sometimes takes some people longer than others to see results. At least you know it worked for you before.

I grocery shopped today in preparation for the group coming here on Sunday. Will have to shop again tomorrow or Saturday, but at least I got a start. I will be happy when this weekend is over and I can start working on my taxes. I am feeling a strong need for some “me” time….not sure when that will happen but I am aiming for it.

Well up another pound here. So since I started, I have gained 3 pounds! And seriously, I am eating right to the plan except maybe light on the protein. So am upping my calories and the protein. Just hoping this straightens out as before the diet, I was also gaining weight a lot more than is even possible (I would have to be eating all day to take in that number of calories). So not stressing, believing it will straighten out.

Momgetsspark - I pricematch a lot of my produce at walmarts (just came from there for my lettuce, carrots, and onions). Otherwise I just will not pay the crazy prices. Glad my orange tree has produced so many sweet juicy oranges this winter.

Tammy- I am hoping just digestion and not some crazy hormone or thyroid thing. This diet worked amazing for me before and already I feel so much better from quitting all the crap I was eating. So I am sticking with it.

So is anyone else ready for the summer produce prices. I am going to stock up more this summer do I won't be paying $4 for organic raspberries and those are frozen. Apples seem to be a better alternative as well as asparagus. What are your current faves?

Tammy - take your time with that laundry and getting ready for your next entertainment venture. Sounds like a big group. Hope the warm weather helps your RA.

MJ - Daily weight fluctuates as we all know. Often a gain is a result of digestion or lack thereof. This too shall "pass" as they say. I find this diet works well for me when I am compliant, and I love that on this plan we are eating healthy not processed foods. It is win win for me. Hope you continue to join in the conversations here and share with us as we all support each other.

I am completely back on track today and feeling good. I am still facing lots of extra housework (mostly laundry) resulting from our weekend company. I have given myself permission to get to it when I can and to not feel guilty that it is not all done already. With my bad legs and the laundry room in the basement, I am pacing myself accordingly. This Sunday I have 12 to 15 people coming here for dinner around 2:30 pm. It is a group of friends involved with a service organization from my old church. I have remained involved with this group even though I left that church over 16 years ago. We meet 4 to 5 times per year. I always take the winter meeting so that I don't have to worry about driving. I am still working on the menu but am learning toward crock pot pulled pork, coleslaw, a veggie tray, a cheese and cracker tray, etc. These are not 17 DD compliant foods but they are not so far astray that it will "do me in" if I eat a little on Sunday. I am going to read the grocery store circulars again to see if anything else strikes me, but if not, pulled pork is sounding easy and good. And that way I can enjoy my guests without being tied too much to the kitchen.

Tammyand Thank you for the warm welcome and your encouraging words on my blog. I am definitely going to need the support. After first day, dropped 1 lb, after second day gained 2! Totally followed plan except exercise (did do lots yard work) but protein for me was light the second day so I know the issue (water, hormones, also playing havoc). I am going to stick with it though because I know it has worked for me in the past. I also have lots more info about myself than I did before. Glad to find all of you here.

Sabina – Good to hear from you. Please feel free to drop by and post whenever you want to. Adhering to the 17DD principles is what many of us do, even when not following the diet as strictly as delineated in the book. So you are more than welcome here at any time.

MJ – Welcome back to this forum. Wonderful to have you with us. I understand the rebellion against exercise. It is not one of my favorite things to do either…even though, as you note, 17 minutes of walking is doable for most people. We are a small but wonderfully supportive group here. Best wishes are you return to this very successful diet plan!

Cyndi - How about sending some of your exercise energy my way??? As I told MJ above, exercising is not my favorite thing. Good for you for being so active. Way to go!

I am getting back on track today after a weekend of family visits and eating off plan. I didn’t overeat but did stray far enough from plan that I know I didn’t lose any weight this weekend. I feel good today but have a lot of cleaning up to do including tons of laundry (extra sheets, towels, etc.) from having extra folks here all weekend. I don’t mind at all though. It was so good for everyone to be together again and enjoying each other’s company.

Glad to see so many posts. I have been busy upping my workouts. Today I did Zumba and then a yoga class to stretch back out . Loved the Zumba and I truly believe the yoga helped from having sore muscles.
Have a great, safe week.

Hi, everyone. I am here back to this team where I originally started out in July 2012. At that time I had lost quite a bit of weight on the 17 d diet but came here for the support. By Sept I reached goal and actually went below. Since then maintenance has been quite a challenge, and here I am, starting back on c1, d1. My biggest challenge is actually doing exercise that is measured. Today I did a lot of yard work and want to just count that as my exercise. But will walk for 17 minutes yet - don't know why I rebel at this part so much - I mean 17 minutes is really not hard. Looking forward to getting to know you.

Natalie, you are doing so awesome. I am so proud of you. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for asking about me,I didn't continue writing in this forum because I was not quite strictly following the 17DD diet rules anymore. Since I started logging my calories I realized, even in phase 3 I was barely eating 1100 calorie. Since the Jillian Fitness program and my gym together was burning 400-500 cal a day 5x/week. I was feeling really tired and hungry. Weight loss was crawling at that point. I read about it and figured my body has gone into starvation mode.So I decided to up my calorie around 1400/week and have a semi fast day and a cheat day. I still mostly follow 17DD philosophy, but if I strictly follow it I cant make up my calories. First week doing this I lost 2.2 lbs, but this week was not good I didnt lose any. It was that time of the month and I cheated way too many time and went a lot above 1400 cal few days. I have 6 week more weeks of Jillian program I am doing. I might try to give 17DD phase 1 another try if I have a recovery week in between. I am halfway through my weight loss journey, I have lost so many inches since I started this journey and I feel really good about this diet overall. I will drop by some time to cheer you guys.

Tammy, you are doing so well. Keep up the good work.

Sabina

Natalie - Woo Hoo....still losing....way to go...Now that you are out of C3 you won't have as many temptations/choices so to speak. It is natural for the weight loss to slow a bit as you mentioned, but losses still will happen. Stay strong!

I am on track again today. I weighed in this morning because with my out of state family coming for the weekend I am likely to stray a bit from plan. I am down 8+ (almost 9) pounds since Feb. 1 so I am quite pleased.

Happy Weekend Everyone!

R2C1D1 (round 2, cycle 1, day 1),

I had weigh in today. I was pleasantly surprised that I still lost .2 lbs despite a less than perfect week. I went way over calories for a few days and had a couple full blown cheats. But, I've tweaked some things so it's been working better for me now :) .

I had some walnuts and dark chocolate for snack, I think that keeps my cravings at bay. And I jogged a mile and a half like I do most days.

I'm excited to be starting my second round! Another 51 days of fun! I think I did the math right in my head...I'm wondering if being back on the first cycle again will result in faster weight loss like last time. I always have fast weight loss in cycle 1. But I doubt it because I've been doing this for a while and probably down have excess water weight left. We'll see.

Great job staying on track everyone!

Sabina, how are you doing?

Patandtodd - Woo Hoo on dropping over 5 pounds already. I agree that this kind of loss is a great motivation booster. Way to go!

I am on track again today....I hope this keeps up as I have had no real struggles, temptations, or cravings over the past 12 days or so. I am down about 7 pounds since Jan. 31...which is when I came down with the bug and lost my appetite pretty much, which makes remaining compliant oh so much easier.

We have family coming to visit us from Texas this weekend so this does present some challenges. I know Saturday evening we are visiting another mutual relative who is planning to serve pizza. I think I'll do ok though since right now food is just not appealing to me, not even pizza.

Hi Girls, Day 7 already and down 5,2 pounds. I am happy for you girls for your success and also a little worried like Tammyand about cycle 3- to not have so many choice that you over do it. I use my fitness pal to log and last 3 days have not gotten close to 1200. I need to eat more so my body doesn't start to hold on to the weight. I am happy with losing the 5 pounds so quickly- it is a really good mental booster. Off to bed. Up since 5 and big day tomorrow. Keep up the good work everyone.

My health is more important to me than that temptation.

Natalie - Congrats on completing your first round! Woo Hoo!!! I must admit that I do not like C3 at all. That cycle is when I've had the most severe cravings and loss of will power. I agree that you have to consume enough calories which I why I log all my food even though it is not required on this diet. I also remember those pre-menstrual cravings...ugh... don't miss them at all.....actually I don't miss anything from my pre-menopause days. Getting older does have a few benefits. Sounds like you put together a great plan going forward. I predict more success in store for you.

I had another good on track day. My weight loss continues....I'm now down about 6.5 pounds for this month so far. Still no cravings and no serious appetite. I am eating compliant foods but not a lot as I am just not hungry. Well time to move along here. So I'll sign off for the night.

C3D16,

Wow I can't believe I have only one day left!

I had been contemplating whether or not to do another round. My cravings have just been out of control, and for the first time I actually really cheated yesterday. Not just bites, licks, and tastes. I had some chocolate and homemade pizza. I noted that after the chocolate I was completely satisfied even though it was only four small pieces. That got me thinking.

I did some research about cravings and learned that a week or two before our period we crave fat, carbs, salt, and chocolate. Our serotonin levels drop and our cortisol levels rise. Also our magnesium takes a dive which explains chocolate cravings.

I also learned from the ladies on the maintenance board, that if I eat too few calories like I have been it causes cravings. I have been averaging about 700-800 a day. I'm five feet tall, but I guess I need to eat more.

I decided to continue on and do a second round, because at this point I'm not ready to venture out on my own. But I've made some guidlines for myself.

1.) Aim for 1,200 cals a day
2.) Continue following the food rules
3.) Add dates, peanut butter, nuts, and avocados to get good fats and up the calories (I'm not huge on meat and that's where most of the cals in this diet come from)
4.) Before Aunt Flo arrives I will buy some dark chocolate and have a serving each morning.
5.) Decrease my coffee consumption because coffee raises cortisol levels and causes me to be more irritable.
6.) Get more rest and down time.

I'm happy with these guidlines. I don't think it's altering the original diet too much.

Tammy, congrats on a great day! My husband makes amazing turkey burgers, I like to eat them ontop of my salads too :) .

On track again today and feeling much lighter. I weigh in sporadically, no real pattern though Sunday used to be my somewhat usual weigh in day. I might weigh in tomorrow just to see if I lost any more weight. I am not eating much yet as I still don't have much of an appetite. I made turkey burgers today (no bun of course) and they were very good. Added a salad too mostly because I know DS wanted a salad. I would have been satisfied without it, but now I'm glad I had it. We had snow off and on all day today. It should be tapering off soon, but it is going to get soooo cold here this weekend (predicted to be the coldest weekend of the season so far) I suspect the snow will stick around for a while. Ugh! I really don't like winter.

Tammy - hope you continue to feel better and don't get too much snow. You had a great weight loss so you must have stayed mainly on plan. Way to go!

Lin - keep going as you are doing fantastic.

Pat - love the turkey burger solution. Great alternative and good for you to stay on track.

Cyndi – Yes soup will be on my menu this week. It is almost always some kind of veggie soup made with low sodium broth. I am hoping to get to the grocery store later today as snow is predicted for us for all day tomorrow and into Wednesday. I need chicken again too. I just can’t seem to keep enough chicken on hand!

Patandtodd – Congrats on your 4+ pound loss. Terrific!!! Very motivating indeed….for you and for the rest of us who share in your success! We celebrate with you! Your strategy for dealing with the super bowl food is a great one! That’s the way to do it. You should be very proud of yourself.

Natalie – Wow, a size small. Never in my life have I worn a small anything! Even my head is big and some “normal” size hats don’t fit my head. I bet you’ll soon be getting even more compliments. You are doing great.

I weighed in today and saw a 3.5 pound loss from last week. I realize that I wasn’t fully compliant while I’ve been sick, but I still managed to drop this weight, so I am happy today. I needed to see good news at the scale so this means a lot to me. I am still fighting off this blasted cold but do feel better, just still kind of unusually tired….not sure if this is still the “bug” or if it is RA-related fatigue. I had my usual compliant breakfast of Breakstone Live Active cottage cheese and an orange. That really sets the tone for me to stay compliant for the rest of the day. I will use up my last head of cauliflower today so I definitely must get out to the grocery store today in light of the predictions for snow tomorrow. I really don’t like winter.

Have a super week everyone!

Thanks for all the advice and encouragement. I was getting cranky yesterday during the game as the family was eating yummy Superbowl food but I made a turkey burger with low carb ketchup and mustard and FF chedder. and tomatoes. Wrapped it up in Romaine and it was fabulous. I had put steak seasoning and minced onion in it before cooking. Truly good. I also had a bowl of celery bites and dipped them in a homemade ranch dip with calories being 40 by using LF sour cream and a tsp of Ranch dressing mix. I am on Day 5 Cycle one and today the scale showed a 4.2 pound loss so far. Motivates me to keep on keeping on.

My health is more important to me than that temptation.

Well I did so well on c1 and then switched to c2 as we traveled for the weekend for my bday. Made lots of poor choices but back on track today!!! We walked a ton, but calories in still add on for me compared to walking.
Will ck back in later as just was MIA and felt bad.

NM - keep on track and I bet the compliment felt fantastic. It will all be worth it!

Tammy looks like the cold is coming back so what soups are you making?

Thank you for the advice Tammy. It's been a struggle lately. I just want to eat and eat. I have been controlling myself for the most part. But tonight I had some beef mixed with a little bit of rice for dinner. And I already had my two carbs this morning. Usually when I feel like this it means aunt flo is coming soon. But it could also be possible that my body is revolting against the weight loss.

I haven't had any big cheats like junk food or anything. My cheats have been like eating three Ritz crackers because I was giving some to my kids. But I know it's a slippery slope. I have to stay committed and persistent with my diet.

I actually received my first compliment today. A good friend of mine hadn't seen me in about a month and said I was getting so skinny. It was nice that someone noticed.

And I had a wonderful non scale victory yesterday, the "goal" shirts I bought which are smalls I tried on yesterday and they actually fit! I wore one to church today. I couldn't believe they were smalls! Maybe I should have bought extra smalls. Vanity sizing I presume.

I better get going. Have a good night everyone!

I am on track again today, again without really trying. Just hope I do this well when I am feeling better. Still not much appetite & not much energy, but I am improved compared to yesterday.

Tammy-so sorry you are still under the weather. But, like you said, not much of an appetite is ok for a few days.
Yes...drinking green tea 2-3 times a day. I know drinking the water helps with the weight loss. I will try to drink more, because I lost a few pounds the first couple of days and now...it is at a stand still. I cheated last night. We ordered Chinese. I had the teriyaki chicken on the stick, so I know that was ok, but I had to have some of the crunchy noodles with the hot and sour soup.
Patandtodd-I, too, have a hard time in the evening. I want something sweet. And I have found that if I save a yogurt for night, it can spike my blood sugar in the morning. So....I suffer! (Sigh)

No Super Bowl plans. We always had a standing invite for our former brother in law, but my DH had his second cornea surgery this past week and is just not up for anyone being here. He'll have a burger and I will eat grilled chicken.

Still have a few pounds to go.....I will succeed!

Lin – I know you can get rid of those 5 pounds. Drinking all the water helps but if it is too much for you, then do what you can. Are you drinking any green tea? I’ve been drinking even more than usual since I’m still not feeling well.

Natalie – Wow, 11 pounds! Way to go! I would suggest that you learn from my mistakes….when I get to a certain point I tend to get very sloppy with the diet and then my weight loss stalls. Try not to get sloppy if you can help it.

Patandtodd – So glad you are giving the 17 DD a try. I think you will be pleased. If followed correctly the diet sure brings results. And after about 4 or 5 days on the diet, it does get easier and the carb cravings tend to go away. Like I said to Natalie above, just be careful not to get sloppy or your weight loss will be impacted. I tend to do that and ugh get so annoyed when I do that.

I am miraculously on track today, without even really trying. I am still feeling poorly and certainly not up to cooking. So I reheated some leftover cooked chicken and cauliflower for dinner. My appetite is almost nonexistent which could be a good thing. I am drinking plenty of water and tea but still not up to exercising. I am resting as much as I can and doing only the bare necessities around the house. Won’t go to church tomorrow, which upsets me but I know I won’t be up to it and I certainly don’t want to take my germs to anyone else.

emoticon Does anyone have Super Bowl challenges tomorrow? emoticon I will be at home which is usual for me on this day. DS is staying home with me instead of going to any parties, so I will make him ribs in the crock pot…easy enough for sure. I still have enough chicken left over for myself for tomorrow so I think I should be ok.

Day 3 for me on C1- first time I ever tried this diet. I have been following it to the T so far except on tsp of light Miracle Whip to make a deviled eggs. Spending a lot of time in the bathroom from all the water and tea. lol I love reading all of your comments.

C3D11,

Sorry I've been MIA, my internet access is sporadic.

Weigh in was today, happy to say I'm down a pound! So 146 was a mini goal because it seems to be the weight I am when I get pregnant, and where I "hang around" . Sometimes my weight would get down to the 130's only to have it go back up again. Can't wait to be out of the 140's. Seems like it's happening so fast!

I upped my jogging mileage to 1.5 miles a day. And I still walk an hour each morning. Temptation to eat off plan has been sneaking up on me. I think it's my body trying to gain the weight back again. I just have to fight it because I know this change is permanent. I can never go back to how I used to be.

I better get going. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

So far I've lost eleven pounds on this diet :).

Well...here I go again. Like a broken record, but this time. I will stick with it at least until I lose about 5 lbs. Started yesterday. Ate nothing I'm not suppose to. Not getting in the lemon water or the 8 glasses of water, but no "Happy Hour" (which leads to bad snacks). That was my downfall.
Tammy-Hope you get better soon.

Well now I know why I was so unusually tired on Sunday.....I was coming down with "the bug" or whatever it is. I have been sick since Sunday evening and feel downright terrible. I have not been on plan for 2 days and don't plan to get back on plan till I feel healthy again.

Cyndi - I love C2 because of having oatmeal. Looks like you are doing well.

I am on track but feel unusually tired today, not sure why because l slept well last night. I was extremely busy Friday and Saturday so maybe that is catching up with me now. I am a firm believer in listening to my body, so I think I am going to take a little nap and hope that that perks me up a bit. I find that when I am tired I am more inclined to stray from plan.

February starts tomorrow.....Let's love ourselves along with loving our "Valentines." emoticon

I have been on track lately, but it was easier staying home. Out to dinner tonight, but have a plan to have the salmon and vegetable sides. Planning for the alternate stuffed green peppers one day, a garlic chicken recipe I found online, and if we can dig the grill out, stuffed Portobello mushrooms stuffed with the extra cauliflower mixture from the peppers.

WOO HOO to you guys. Natalie, Sabina and Amy keep going. You can do it and stay focused.

Now to give myself that same pep talk. I have to get this weight off.

Very much on track today and feeling good. Got through all of the chores on today's "to do" list and still have some energy remaining. That's a good feeling and reaffirms for me that this diet helps with my energy level/stamina.

Welcome Amy and hello to everyone else. So glad to see everyone doing well.
I have been quite busy with some car issues (ended up needing a new tire), taking care of a bunch of errands that seemed to accumulate and then multiply, and also the general daily routine to keep things flowing smoothly. I finally grocery shopped today and restocked up on much-needed fruits and veggies, as well as salmon and haddock, both on sale. I am exhausted but on track, even got in my extra walking. I know I will sleep well tonight and hope everyone else does too.

Stay the course friends!
