June - Your plan sounds great to me. Preparation is important. Good strategy to clean out what you won't be needing.


I had a great day yesterday. DS got a Taco Bell drive through for dinner yesterday. He had more than enough to share with me, but I had only one bite and that was it. I had turkey and broccoli was dinner, while he ate the fast food. I didn't even crave what he was having (and I love Taco Bell).

Today is another good day for me. I just finished lunch (eggs). Now I am headed to do some cleaning in our family room.

Tammy, glad things are still going great for you. The longer you go the easier it is.

I decided to restart on July 8th. I know its a ways out but my vacation will be over and it will give me plenty of time to prepare for it. I am going to clean out my cabinets and get rid of anything I am not allowed to eat, I am hoping that will help. For now I am trying to not overdo it and at lease maintain my weight.

June - So much of this is just getting our minds ready for success. I have been super focused lately, I think because I have so many events coming up between July and November..and I know how well I can do when I am compliant.

I have been tied up with various random projects but still following the diet and doing well. Sorry for not posting for a while.

June - Motivation is so tough at times. I really don't know what has finally clicked for me, but I think seeing a recent photo of myself taken at a family function definitely helped spur on my new found compliance. Most of my family members are tall and thin. Then there is me....short me - Ok can't do much about that, but I can do something about not being thin.... I might never be thin, but I can sure be healthier and weight less than I do now. How I feel in the morning definitely sets the tone for my day. I have a fairly structured morning routine (even though I am retired)....and if I follow that routine (including drinking the lemon water and having a compliant breakfast, usually the Live Active Cottage cheese, though today I had an egg white omelet), then I have a better chance of being successful for the rest of the day.

Hope this a compliant and healthy day for all of us!

I on the other hand is struggling. I just can't get myself motivated to even start. I plan it and then wake up and don't want to start. I am reading some articles on motivation, hope that helps. I just don't know what to do.

Didn't get to post yesterday here as I was busier than usual. I had another on track day, and really feel the difference...no cravings, no attacks from the hunger monster. It's alll good.

June - Yep, balance is a good word for what we need. I agree completely.


I was out of sorts yesterday and so was my eating. Today however I am totally back on track and feeling great. I feel like my old self (i.e. before I had this nasty autoimmune disorder - rheumatoid arthritis). I have no fatigue today and very few aches & pains. I was able to run a few errands and get major grocery shopping done. I wish I felt like this every day. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to when I feel pretty good and when I feel very bad (like yesterday). I have heard of some people who go into remission from RA....maybe this will happen to me.

I have been doing pretty good but did have a cheat meal today. I am ok with it because I am going to stick with it the healthy eating. I need to learn how to have those cheats and stay on track after them, must learn balance.

I had another on track day today..2 in a row...and feeling great. I managed to stay on track even though I went out to lunch with 2 friends. I ordered grilled chicken and asparagus and drank black coffee and water. I was quite satisfied.

Hope today was a good one for everyone!

Shelly - Welcome! Please feel free to ask any questions, share ideas, express struggles, etc. We are a small team but we know that this diet, when followed (of course), certainly works. It isn't always easy to follow the plan to the letter, but the more compliant we are, the better results we see.

June - So good to see your post. Woo hoo for 2 good days. Each good day gets us a little closer to goal.

I am back on plan today after a less-than-compliant weekend. My plan for our evening meal is grilled chicken breasts, a very big salad, and steamed broccoli. I had my usual breakfast (Live Active Cottage Cheese and a fruit....today my fruit was a pear..very delicious). For me this breakfast really sets the tone for a compliant day.

Hey Tammy, looks like its just the two of us. I restarted Saturday and had 2 good days. I didn't weight myself at the start because I was afraid of what the scale would say, think I'll jump on the scale after 5 days.

June - even if you are not following the plan to the letter, simply applying some of the principles of healthy eating is good. I understand work stress. I retired almost 4 years ago after over 30 years of working at the same place. And I don't miss it at all. I have never been happier.


Today I did well and got in my extra walking at the grocery store, as holding on to the cart really helps me with my bad knees. It was a good day all around.

Tammy,not gaining weight is good too!

It really is hard to stay on track especially when work is stressful. To be honest I haven't really tried very hard lately. I did eat well today, hoping tomorrow will be the same for me.

June - Glad you are still here....I know it is not easy to get back on track

It is so quiet here lately. I wonder where everyone is.

I am doing fine. Held my own without gaining over the weekend when confronted with many challenges. Wise choices are becoming second nature more and more to me.

June - I just read about how having as little as one glass of wine can cause us to go off plan, and then I read your post. I suspect we just get a bit more "carefree" with alcohol in our system. I enjoy a glass of wine now and then but am not supposed to have any alcohol because of one of the meds I take for my RA. I can't say I never have a drink, but it is a rarity for me these days.

I had a pretty good day today, not not as totally compliant as I have been recently. I will get right back on track tomorrow. Lots of healthy veggies on hand so that helps a lot.

Glad everything is going well for you, I wish I could find my strength again.

Work was stressful this past week so I failed once again. I have a family dinner tonight and nothing else on the books so tomorrow I will try once again. I usually only drink once a week but that is usually when I fall off the diet train and then want to eat everything in sight as well. I am going to not drink for a month so I can get myself back on track again.

I have been doing pretty well...after a string of so-so days, I have been back on track and feeling strong. The weekly organic produce delivery I started to receive several weeks ago really helps. The produce is beautiful, and having it delivered every week is to me like getting a Christmas present on our doorstep every Thursday. Then on Friday nights I get to "write to Santa" again when I reply to the email to customize our produce box for the coming week. It is a great system.

It's been rather quiet here. I hope everyone is doing well and even if you aren't doing well, check in here. We are all here to support each other.

June - You are so right about needing to bounce right back after we stray. I do think that the more we do this the easier it gets. I don't feel too deprived if I manage my "blips" this way. The "all or nothing" thinking is one thing that really does me in. Drinking water to flush out the water gain seemed to work for me.

I am in the midst of another on track day. My motivation is high. I weighed again and am down 3 more pounds for a total of 4 this week....after basically treading water for a few weeks. It is so good to see the scale moving in the right direction again.

I myself had a blip Thurs and Tonight but I am getting right back on track. I have to learn do live life like this and need to learn to bounce right back after a night out so I am totally ok with living it up. I don't expect the scale to be nice to me for a few days, probably going to retain water some water.

I am exactly on track today and feel great. Guess what. I weighed in today even though I didn't think I'd be brave enough to do so. Well, despite yesterday's "blip," I dropped another pound. I guess I wasn't as bad as I thought I was...and apparently no water weight gain either.

Hard to believe it is Friday already. Hope this weekend goes well for everyone!

I had a bit of a blip today but got right back on track. So I will avoid Mr. Scale for a while, just so I don't get discouraged...I think I will likely have some water weight gain. Onward and downward (in terms of weight that is).

I finished yesterday strong and the scale showed. I am not positive how much I've lost so far.. I didn't get on the scale the first day, was afraid of what it would say. I just need to remind myself if I eat off plan a meal I can get right back on and I have to start doing that. I am going to do it. emoticon

I was on track until last night, I had 3 beers and a potato. Lunch today I ate like I was on cycle 2 but back on track for dinner.

Tammy a few bumps in the roads won't hurt as long as we have the strength to get right back on.

Daisy, I agree with Tammy.. As long as you know you'll get back on track it's probably ok.

I feel your pain Daisy! Struggles are so tough and can be overpowering. Dr. Mike talks about the 3 bite rule. If you can contain yourself at 3 bites of whatever you are craving I say go for it. But if it will trigger you to eat more than that....do your best to find an acceptable substitute....I know celery is not a pretzel, but it is crunchy. Maybe some celery with just a little peanut butter will satisfy you. Sometimes I find the combination of fat and protein settles down my cravings. Or perhaps an apple with just a dab of peanut butter might help. Do your best.....you are worth it!


I am on track again today. My challenge tonight is my monthly meeting of one of the service organizations I belong to. We order from a menu but often the healthy choices at this restaurant are limited. I think I'll be ok with a salad...but oh, their fried pickles are so good. I saw a post on another team today that I plan to keep in mind....."Losing weight is hard. Being fat is hard...Choose your hard." That makes so much sense to me.

I am on day 16 of C1 and have lost 6.4lbs so far. I haven't lost anything in the past 3 days. I have pretty much followed the program so far except for flavor coffee and that isn't daily.

Anyway, today I am struggling. I really want something like pretzels or something crunchy (not carrots). How bad with this screw me up?

I am on track today and loving every minute. The good feeling of being on track is amazing. So then why do I stray??? Ugh! Well today, on track, smiling, happy, no cravings, and a very positive attitude.

Tammy, I didn't catch all that willpower but got most of it. I cheated by having some jelly beans but I didn't go overboard.

I started over today too after doing marginal days and some totally off plan days. I have 2 weddings coming up this summer... and am now in high gear to drop some significant pounds in time for the weddings......Today is day 1 of my compliance streak!

It really is quiet in here, I hear crickets. Tomorrow March 28th will be 5 years I started this diet. I figured it is a good date to restart again, Hoping this time works out as well as it did 5 years ago.

Wow it sure has been quiet here this week!
Hope everyone is doing ok.
I am almost all better from that nasty bug that I had. Today I am back on track and happy to be eating on plan after a week of floundering and not having much energy.
Sunday is the first day of spring. Are we going to be ready for our spring clothes? Let's have a great spring and be healthier by the first day of summer! We can do it.

Dana - Glad to see your post. Thanks for the tip on the cookbook. I LOVE cookbooks, and have quite a few, yet still add more to my collection.

I am looking forward to getting back on track as soon as this bug goes away. I am taking an antibiotic now, as is my son. I am improving a little better than he is, but I was hit with this bug a few days before him so he has to catch up with me.

Here comes the weekend friends! Are we ready???

Another quick check in. I am feeling a bit better. I started on an antibiotic yesterday, and already I notice improvement. DS went to his doctor today and was prescribed the same antibiotic. I still have no interest in food, no appetite either. So while I am not exactly on plan, my choices are healthy ones. I didn't weigh in today, but will expect to see a loss next time I face Mr. Scale.

Welcome to our new and returning members. Not sure why things have been so quiet here lately. Perhaps our teammates are under the weather too.

Sending positive thoughts to all. Let's do this!

Hi All,

I am just checking in quickly as I am still under the weather and not up to doing much. And now DS has it again too. We seem to keep passing this bug back and forth between the 2 of us. It is a bit rough with the 2 of us feeling so icky at the same time. Ugh! I am not eating exactly on plan but am making wise choices, considering I have no energy to cook and essentially no desire for food (not a bad thing, really). I perked a bit just now which is what brought me to my computer. I have some good news in that I went to see my rheumatologist yesterday (a friend drove me....close to 2 hours each way) and had a good report. Also, my lab work came back good, which is always a relief. The doctor told me his wife has the same bug I have and he said it is because she didn't get a flu shot (neither did I but DS did). It seems that this bug is pretty busy. Several folks from our church are also dealing with it. Well, in any case, I think I am on the upswing and should be back to semi-normal pretty soon. If all goes as planned, I might even make a quick run to the grocery store tomorrow.

Hope everyone is healthy and happy and doing well.

Speaking of not enough calories - On cycle 1, under the heading "Meal Planning made Easy", Page 46, he recommends for breakfast, 2 eggs or 4 egg whites plus a fruit serving,(or a probiotic food). Then on his first sample menu on day 1, he gives you 2 egg whites and 1/2 grapefruit. This amounts to 76 calories, according to Spark. How is this enough to keep you going until lunch? Other days on the same sample meal plan, he has 2 whole eggs plus the fruit. That makes more sense to me. I think it must be a mistake. Anyway, I had the Greek egg scramble from day 9 plus a half grapefruit this morning.

I am redoing Cycle 1 for a few days as I overindulged in sugary stuff yesterday and gained a pound and a half. Lots of water and no sugar today!

Hi ladies. I noticed all the talk about kefir - I use kefir grains and make my own. Much cheaper that way and have been doing it for years for health reasons. Very good for you. On cycle two and have not lost any weight except for a 6 lb drop during cycle one. I think once again I have fallen into not eating enough calories which was a problem for me on this diet years ago. May need to track again. Also needing to add in more fat - olive oil for me.

Tammy - sounds like you are right on track for March. Great way to start out the new month.

I had the kefir smoothie this morning and really liked it. I made it with 1 cup 2% plain unsweetened kefir, 1 cup frozen mango chunks, 1 Tbsp no sugar-added blueberry jam and 1 Tbsp olive oil. Not too sweet, just right. I had to add a little water to it as it was way too thick.

I would have used blueberries for it, but was all out of frozen fruit except for the mango.

Joanie - Let us know how you like the smoothie recipe if you try it. I might try it too. I might get to the grocery store tomorrow. If I do, I'll try to remember to pick up some unsweetened kefir. My DS love kefir....but the sweetened fruity kind. I buy it for him once in a while but not a lot as it is kind of pricey...but I know it is healthy, so maybe I'll buy him a fruit flavored one too.

Oh, okay. I saw the sweetened fruity kinds also; but didn't check the carbs. That is a lot; due to all the added sugar, I guess. I like the kefir with a little no-sugar-added jam as he recommends. There's a recipe in the book for a kefir smoothie that I'm going to try.

Thanks Joanie. I did see some unsweetened kefir but was reluctant to try it, and it is more difficult to find. Now I think I will try it. The 8 carbs is not a bad number in my humble opinion. The sweetened versions of kefir which are much easier to find around here have carb counts in the high 20s and upward.

Hi, Tammy, the brand of kefir I have is Liberte 2% plain. It has 8 grams of carb per cup. I don't know if you can get it in the States - it's a Canadian brand. I didn't worry about the carbs - Dr. Mike just specified plain unsweetened.

Joanie - Congrats on dropping 3.5 pounds. I have had kefir but not since I've been doing this diet. All of the kefir I see in the stores is high in carbs. What kind did you find?

So far I am on track today. Later I am going to a dinner meeting for one of the service organizations I belong to. At this meeting we order from the menu. I usually order a chicken caesar salad with the dressing on the side, and usually don't even use any dressing. I heard that there might be some new items on the menu tonight. So maybe there will be some other healthy options for me. In the past the caesar salad has been the wisest choice.

Let's make March a marvelous month!
