I'm new to this group and kinda new to the 17 day diet. I'm 8 days in to the first cycle. I'm actually liking this diet. I suspect that by day 17, I'll be ready to add something else to my diet, but so far it's going pretty good.

I did a 60 minute power walk today.

C1D4!!!!
D5 - 10 minute challenge 40 minute emoticon !!!!

busy day at work and my son had baseball practice afterwards so I packed a change of clothes and went straight to the field for his practice and went for a brisk walk with my daughter. I feel really good inside and out ..I feel like the toxins and crud from eating poorly over the last two months are leaving my body!!!

Today's menu wasn't to exciting smoothie - which is my go to breakfast during the week - I love them because they taste good, take a very long time to drink and they keep me satisfied until lunch time. I had a salad for lunch and since I got home so late from practice I had a bowl of brussel sprouts for dinner.

So glad to see all the new post today, Nice to meet you Sassy!!! Diane maybe you should wait a few days before you step on the scale again, You re doing everything right, your body just needs time to catch up.

Tammy - Enjoy your weekend getaway, Hope your home improvement troubles end soon,

Keep pushing everyone!! We can do this together!!!

Sassy - Glad you are posting again. It is wise to take care of yourself...or you won't be any good to anyone else either.

Diane - I don't lose much on C3 either (though some on this board do very well on it). I got used to not losing as much on C3 and tell myself that it is good for me to really focus on portion control with C3 foods...skill building, so to speak.

Beth - Your DS sounds wonderful. My son loves to listen to jazz, but due to his disability (cerebral palsy) he is unable to play any musical instruments (fine motor and gross motor difficulties). We just found a new place that has live jazz every Thursday evening and are going to check our schedules for a time we both can go.

Kathy - Your resistance muscles are rocking, my friend. Homemade banana bread would be a real trigger for me.

Got my 10 minutes + in today...Happy about that. I am tired from running around in preparation for going away this weekend. The work on our house continues....(it was guaranteed to be done by yesterday...will be lucky if it is finished tomorrow). The old me would have drowned these sorrows with Oreo cookies or something equally disgusting. The new me is on track, compliant, and craving-free.

Hope everyone is doing well.

emoticon Ladies. I have missed y'all so much and I love that there are even more people here than before. I am so looking forward to getting to know everyone and catching up on everyone's doings.

The last few months have been so hectic and crazed that I didn't know if I was coming or going most days. Granny is still hanging on and I was spending two/three nights a week at the nursing home, all night with no sleep, and boy did it flare up every single autoimmune issue in my body. Not to mention bad, bad eating habits because I was too tired to cook and was just hitting a drive through every other day. And I hate fast food!!!! But convenience and ease was what these last two months have been about. I finally just had to put a stop to the insanity and tell my MIL I couldn't do it any more. No sleep, not eating properly and no end in sight was just too much. She is just fiercely determined that granny is not to be alone, but doesn't understand, the nurses and aides are there to do their job, she just won't let them emoticon Sad situation but in the end, I realized that I have to take care of myself or I'd be laying in a hospital bed. So I dusted off my 17 DD book and here I am. Back to Cycle 1, Day 1 since I've been away from it for a month or more. Fridge is stocked and away I go.

Good Morning everyone. Wow you miss a few days reading and all kinds of things happening.

Chris I sure hope that home improvement project wraps up soon and with no more $$$$. That is a real challenge, living with the chaos as well as the stress of ongoing financial issues. And my best to your DD and grandbaby. You have a lot going on in your life!

Dietmom - good going! For me the first few days are the hardest. Keep up the motivation.

I am on c1d17, so glad to be looking forward to C2. Sweet potatoes here I come emoticon

I cannot post often since I am at a new job, and afterwork is insanity, juggling my old (at home w/DH) and Zumba. Life is full but very good.

I love having my son home for the summer, he is off to year 2 at college in 3 weeks. Last night saw him perform with a wonderful jazz singer and standup bass player with keyboard player. Ryan is a drummer, and its just amazing what a year at school really studying music will do for a young musician. Wish I had a 10th of his talent. emoticon

Happy hump day!

D4 10 minute challenge 20 minute emoticon !!!!

Hey everyone well today was a great day I was worried about C1 D3 but so far so good!!! I was so energized at work today that I took the stairs every time I had to use the bathroom instead of using the one close to me on my floor. I had a slice of homemade banana bread left on my desk by a coworker and I brought it home and gave it to my daughter. It is a great feeling being in control I hope it last!!!!

Elsa welcome back!!! You can do this!!! Not sure if you received my email but we started a challenge to see how many days in a row we can do at least 10 minutes of exercise a day in a row perhaps you want t join us!! If you do just post your on the daily check in. Its a fun way to get moving and motivated.

Chris - Hope you daughter is feeling better.

Tammy- sorry about the extra cost on your home improvement project it seems like that always happens - unexpected cost!!!!

Well I am off to tidy up and get ready for tomorrow,

Elsa - Glad to have you on board! Off the top of my head regarding coconut milk....I don't recall seeing a reference either....but the 1 cup skim milk is a C3 food as is unsweetened almond milk. So on C3 perhaps you can enjoy one of these options.

Lori - I am sure you will soon find that our current 17DD group is just as wonderful as those who were here when you brought me into this group. We continue to be a very supportive and friendly group....just like you!

Chris - Great news about Piper. Hope your DD is soon feeling better....no fun to have gall bladder problems at any time, let alone right after a C-section....oh my! All I know about gall bladder diet is avoid fried foods. I'm sure there is more to it than that however.

Diane - Celebrate that .3 pound loss...no matter how small a loss is, I say celebrate it. I am down .4 pounds today and tend to minimize this too, but hey, it's better than a .4 gain. You and I have the same kind of Eating Right scale I think. It's not the best but is better than most I think.

I am well on track with both eating and my 10 minute challenge today and will do more exercise later this evening. But I am getting extremely frustrated with the home improvement project I have had going on for over a month now. The guys who are doing the work are great guys and sons of my neighbor. But now the "boss" is starting to nickel and dime me and add on additional costs that weren't in the original contracted price quote. It is a very touchy thing because their mom is my neighbor and a very sweet old woman (78 years old). So far he has run $600 over the original price quote and today told me he needs another $700 in order to finish. I could just cry. I gave him $300 and said that was all I have now, which is true. I want to be fair, but I don't want to be taken advantage of either. His work is flawless, and he is certainly pleasant enough...and maybe he did figure wrong originally...I believe the price he gave me was very reasonable....but it won't be if he keeps adding on more $$ for me to pay him. Sorry for venting here.....but maybe better to vent here than to turn to unhealthy eating of "comfort" foodIs (processed carbs).

Hi Everyone,

I'm back on 17dd again. I lost about 30#s last year for my daughter's wedding. Unfortunately
I didn't stay on target and I gained it all back.

So here I am.

Quick question: Any comments about Coconut Milk? I don't find any reference to it in the book. Full fat or low fat?

Besides losing the 30#s again, I'd like to lose another 30, so here we go.

I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Any help you can offer is appreciated.

Elsa

Chris....so glad your DD and Grandbaby are doing better. No advice even though I had my gallbladder removed just a few years ago.....it was laparoscopic and easier recovery than any other surgery I have had. So if doctors say it needs to be removed laparoscopic is the way to go!

Kathy, Tammy and all....thanks for support along the 17dd path. Everyone is doing so great and I feel I am, too....even if the scale is not cooperating much! This C3 is a challenge for sure!

Scale.....first SMALL sign of downward movement on the new scale .3 lb lower than yesterday! This is the largest movement either up or down since the start of using this scale (previously .1 lb or no movement) so I will take encouragement from this! At least I now know it is not actually "stuck" and can move...LOL!

emoticon Lori! Can't wait for some more of your delicious recipes!

My daughter is doing somewhat better today. emoticon They did an ultrasound just a little while ago and she does have gallstones. Since she just had a c section two days ago, she's going to have to wait a few weeks and be on a special diet. Anybody know what to avoid besides the obvious fatty, high cholesterol type foods? Any advice would be much appreciated!
Hoping and praying that we get to bring her and baby Piper home today! Thanks for the prayers and sorry to have freaked out last night.

Day three, doing ok so far.

Tammy, so glad to hear you are doing so well. I have some catching up to do to get to know you gals. Let me tell you a little about myself.

I am 51 years old, was an RN for 24 yrs and have been "retired" for three. I live in Mississippi, have three cats and keep a couple of saltwater reef tanks. I pretty much live day by day and try to stay positive. My 85 yr old father lives next door and my sister lives behind me and we are pretty close.

This is my second adventure with this diet, the first time I lost 90 pounds in about 6 months. I have been on steroids for about 15 years and should know if I don't eat healthy all the time it is coming right back on! And a lot of it did!

Got to change my ways for good, I felt so much better being lighter. Hopefully it won't be long before I feel better again.

Nice to meet you ladies and some of my old acquaintances.

Cheers, Lori

Diane - You will see progress...sometimes it just takes longer than others.

Kathy - Cheering for you and sending positive thoughts for you to do well on C1D3. I know you will do it.

Kathymag - I agree...the small things mean a lot!

Leslie - Hope the freezer works soon so you can jump on board the success train!

I easily made my 10 minute challenge today and have more energy than usual today. I ran a few errands, got my haircut, and did more than my usual housework...and am still going relatively strong. No problem for me today with compliance. In thinking about yesterday's big slip up, I am wondering if I was just wanting salt (because I ate so much processed meat...something I almost never consume). Glad I moved on. Going for my annual mammogram tomorrow morning.

Have a great night everyone!

Quiet "down" day today.....I've learned to pay attention to these days and not get in my head about it. Much needed rest - a couple of walks with my pooch and trusty cane......(it is absolutely gorgeous outside).

Grateful for the small things -

C1D2!!!
D3 - 10 minute challenge emoticon

Today was a great day!!! I started off with a smoothie, then a great salad with greens, broccoli slaw, tomatoes, grilled chicken and fat free feta with fat free raspberry dressing, then for dinner I had brussel sprouts and chicken with olive oil and seasoned salt. I was hungry today so thank goodness I had baby carrots and grape tomatoes to snack on.

Diane - one word that stuck out of your post is determination - you've got this!! The scale may be winning these small battles but you are going to win the war!!!!

Tammy - been there done that.. way to brush yourself and get right back to it!!!

Chris..prayers going out to you sweet granddaughter.

Leslie....Can't wait for you to get a working freezer and can join me in the I feel great party!!!

Tomorrow is my dreaded day three so glad I will be at work and it isn't a weekend I always get big time cravings on C1D3 once I get over that hump I am home free!!!

Have a great night!!!

Tops...starting is the hardest part. Day 1 (getting past it) was really tough for me this time around vs 3yrs ago. I finally truly committed by writing each day on my planner and the weight each morning. Each morning I told myself if I could do 3 days(etc) I could do it one more day. Today is my Day 43 and I don't want to mess up my streak. The longer I go the stronger in my commitment I am! I know from past successful experience (35 lbs lost 3 yrs ago) that if I stick with this 17dd it will work. Good luck to you as you take that first Day 1step! You can do it!

Strong as my determination is.....my new scale is just as stubborn, apparently....sigh....still weigh the same this a.m....can't get off this plateau! I power walked morning and evening yesterday and am still following the 17dd. Counted calories the last two days and sticking to C3 my calories fell between 1300-1400 each day. Age (66), physical limitations, heart meds seem to be making losing much tougher this time around. I know I have slowed down since my pericarditis attack and though I force the daily exercise and my regular housework....my life style is much more sedentary than it was before the illness. Side effects of these heart meds make you lethargic/tired/weak feeling so I need to fight that and find some more activities.

In retrospect, it sure would have been better and easier for me to stay on the 17dd plan (when I fell ill)....but instead, I let myself fall into unhealthy eating and gain it all back....and now have to try to reverse the process by starting all over again. I hope I have learned that lesson if nothing else and I hope, by sharing all this with the team, others will learn from my mistakes.
Hang in there everyone.....we can do this, each day and one at a time!

Another quick hello from me as we are having thunderstorms, and I am soon shutting down the computer.
Did fine with my challenge today...got in my walking and lots of it. Will do the cruiser in a little while.
Did not do so well with eating even though I started off well. Not beating myself up over this, but I think I gave myself permission because I got annoyed that the scale went up a pound instead of down after all of my good days of full compliance. I know... a stupid move... but I tell the truth here so that's what I did....maybe eating totally off plan is just what I needed to do to get this system moving again....not planning to go near the scale for a while now.

Chris - Hang in there friend. I know it's been tough for you in so many ways. Keep the faith.

Kathy - Yes, I love your menu sharing. Thanks.

Diane - I too am post menopausal which I know has slowed my rate of weight loss...but my 70 year old friend dropped about 60 pounds over the last year....I keep thinking if she could do it, so can I (at 56 turning 57 next month)

Leslie - Sounds like you have a plan. That's the way to get moving in the right direction. Woo hoo!

Update and prayer request! My granddaughter has jaundice because she and my daughter have two different blood types (not RH factor, but daughter has O+ and granddaughter has A+). Anyway, guess this is a really rare form of newborn jaundice. So poor little Piper has to be kept in the nursery under special blue lights in nothing but a diaper and goggles on her eyes at least until Tuesday. She can only come out long enough for Renee to feed her and then has to go straight back under the lights. It's been a roller coaster for us the last few days. I'm trying to stay strong, but it is very difficult after all that has happened in the last month.

Thanks everyone and hopefully the next time I post, I'll have better news.

C1D1!!!! Starting over... weighed myself today and it hurt!!! But I am here to stop the gaining and start being a big LOSER!!!! I gained all but 6.5 lbs back so I did a new ticker and I am ready to make it start moving.

D3 on my 10 minutes a day challenge I did a lot of walking today and hoping to swim some laps later .

For those in the group that know me you know that I love sharing my daily menu's and I love when others share also, it is so great to get ideas from others in the group. So here goes eggwhites, onions, peppers and tomatoes for breakfast. A smoothie with kefir, strawberries and cabbage for lunch and for dinner a turkey burger smothered with veggies and fat free feta cheese.

Diane(Newday) so glad you are going to stick with C3 your body needs the break from the harder cycles and needs more calories so C1 will work. You are doing great I am sorry that medications and health issues are making this an uphill battle but all your hard work is going to pay off...I promise.

Chris....congrats on new grandbaby!

Tammy.....I really identified with your advice....rule governed and OCD about 17dd (both fit me to a tee). And, yes, I have a really hard time adding in carbs and eating as much as I probably am supposed to be eating in C3.....and, I am strongly thinking after only a week on C3 to start over on C1 tomorrow....but again, part of me wants to follow book exactly!
My heart meds, post menopause etc are sure working against me....with really slow losses and long plateau's this time on diet. Also, I am having a huge flare in my connective tissues and so energy level low and ability to exercise is less than I like. Truly admire your ability to keep on doing 17dd with your Lupus issues! You are such a positive role model for me!

Part of me feels if I do C1 again I can push off the shelf of this plateau I am on.....another part of me feels I may not be getting enough calories so my body is holding onto it's weight.
Deep down I believe my body can't keep doing that for much longer so I just have to stay on this 17dd path and a R2 of C1 will do it. I am eating enough not to be hungry and so far no sweets. Some personal stress issues have me wishing I could have some of my favorite "comfort foods".....but having come this far I am not willing to let myself be sucked into that pattern!

Writing all this....and reviewing my post....I think I will stay on C3 for a few more days, try to get in more calories, try to get more sleep, try to get in more exercise....maybe do my power walk twice daily when possible! Scale today was 157.6. Up .1 of lb.

Lori – So happy you are back. I missed you so much! You did great before, and you will again. I learned a lot from you both in terms of compliant eating and a successful attitude. We’re all in this together you know! Remember, you are the one who brought me to this diet in the first place, and for that I will always be grateful to you.

Kathy – Thanks for getting the challenge going!

Leslie – Glad you are back too. You’re right…You can do it! Good luck with your freezer. I had the same thing happen to me last year right around this time. It wasn’t pretty, and I lost a lot of frozen foods.

Chris – Congrats again grandma! Will look forward to your updates and pics. Hope you catch up on your rest.

Diane – Just think…now when the (new) scale moves in the right direction, you can believe it! For what it is worth, I stuck with C3 through my first 3 rounds at least. I didn’t lose much on C3, but I found that I got sloppier with my compliance as time went on. Since you have just a little over a week on C3 to say you completed the cycle, it is probably a good idea to do so. I have been able to lose on subsequent C3 cycles…it’s just that the losses aren’t as impressive as the early C1 and C2 cycles. I am so darn rule-governed however (Ok, and maybe a bit OCD), I find it hard to not complete each cycle to the best of my ability.

My energy has returned today after a difficult night. One of the problems I deal with because of the lupus is skin problems and my skin was driving me crazy last night, kept waking up and wanting to scratch my neck off. I have meds from the dermatologist, but it takes a few days to really clear things up. So after I woke up this morning, I went back to sleep off and on till I had to get up to talk to a friend who called. After a morning of lots of rest I felt great for the rest of the day, accomplished a lot in terms of housework, laundry, and shopping. I walked for way more than 10 minutes today and have done 10+ minutes on my cardio cruiser. I expect to get back on the cruiser tonight for at least another 10 minutes. Have been compliant with eating and feeling strong & in control, just how I like it!

Old scale: 154 (down .5 lb)
New scale: 157.5 (no change from yesterday)
I again recorded the "new scale" number.....so my wgt graph over time looks terrible but can't be helped. I like the old scale number better though, LOL!

C3D7.....decided to keep on C3 through tomorrow. Then will decide each day whether to continue on C3 or of I want to hit C1 again? Likely will stay on C3 for as long as my new scale does not start going up......if that happens I am definitely wanting to avoid going back to square one weight wise....so it will then be C1 sooner than the book says. One day at a time.

It is hot and humid in MN....did my power walk early but still 75 and sticky....only going to get worse with high of 89 predicted. My 30 min power walk streak is now D41....need to up my exercise with some form of indoor workout....heat/humidity combo is too hard on me.

Hi Everyone!!!!! Well I started the challenge today a 30 emoticon with my kids!!! It was so much fun!!!!

Chris - I hope that baby comes out soon I went through the same thing they induced me a month early and it took forever but when she finally made her arrival she was healthy and she was worth the wait. emoticon

Tara - Welcome this is a great group for support. emoticon

Mia - so sorry about your arm hope your not in too much pain emoticon

Diane the scale is so important to all of us but it will make you CRAZY!!!! It is just a number that can change constantly. Look for non scale ways to know you are successful, do you have more energy? Do you have more confidence? Does your body feel great now that you are eating so healthy? As for C2 .. I know I shouldn't say this as a team leader but I HATE cycle 2!!! There I said it... I always gain or lose very little on C2. I don't know why but I do, but guess what I lose it all and then some on C3. So PLEASE don't stress about the scale! emoticon

Beth - the dreaded french fries been there done that, we all have - life happens just do what you did and get right back to it. emoticon emoticon

Tammy - Way to tackle that Mexican Restaurant.. hope you are feeling more energetic tomorrow!!! emoticon
Have a great weekend everyone!!!!

Just a quick check in as I am exhausted today...again not sure why....I did some straightening up around the house but nothing major. Just one of those days perhaps. Weighed in this morning even though I was not planning to. Scale has not budged. I have been doing a lot of C2 and C3 days lately. Was invited to dinner tonight with some friends. Since I did not eat much all day long as I was busy with the house, I ordered whatever I wanted at the Mexican restaurant tonight. I think I am so 17DD programmed that the chips didn't tempt me at all, neither did the beans. I did eat a little rice with my shrimp fajitas (without the tortillas). My friends had fried ice cream to which I applied the 3 bite rule. No problem there. I am pretty much lactose intolerant anymore so the thought of ice cream doesn't do much for me. I should have pretty clear sailing without any known eating challenges coming my way till next weekend when I will be traveling for 3 days.

Chris....wishing you well with the new baby.....certainly has to be exhausting for your daughter.....hoping she delivers very soon!

Scale woes......my new scale arrived and is sitting on ceramic tile floor. It (unfortunately) tells me I am 3 lbs heavier than my old scale says.....sigh. Obviously, I cannot use the old scale number so will very reluctantly start this as day 1 with the new number of 157.5. This is a bummer but also something I had begun to suspect....that my beginning number from old scale was lower than reality and my losses not accurate up or down? Old scale says 154.5 today. (That is still 1.5 lbs up from low point when it read 153).

I know it's just a number but no one likes to go through all these cycles and not know if they really lost much weight? I know I am fitting into clothes better but that has not changed over the last couple weeks.....and I do fear C2 actually caused me to gain 1.5 lbs......bummed.

My heart meds and post menopausal body are really making this tougher than it should be! To top it off my bone scan yesterday says I have osteoporosis now, too. Lipitor contributes to that and I have some decisions to make regarding my meds. If one doesn't get you the other will!

I apologize in advance for any typos or if I leave anyone out. Posting from my phone stinks!

At 4:30 a.m. they started the pitocin again on my daughter. Hoping to get to meet that granddaughter TODAY! It's been a long couple of days! Trying to catch up on everyone's posts. Looks like it's been a crazy week for everyone!

Welcome back Kathy (Dietmom)! So sorry to hear about your mother-in-law! emoticon and prayers for you and your family. We're all here for you!

Tammy - sounds like you are doing great! Awesome job passing up on that rice and cake!

Mia - sorry to hear about your arm! Praying that it heals quickly!

Tara - emoticon you've come to the right place for support! This is an awesome team and they helped me stay strong, encouraged me when I've been down, applauded me on my achievements and given great advice when I was where you are now. Feel free to ask anything! After the first 4 out 5 days, you'll feel much better and it will be a lot easier to resist those processed carbs! Keep flexing those resistance muscles!

Beth - nothing worse than having an unexpected food on your plate, when you're trying to resist. Way to go getting right back at it afterwards. Whenever I eat out nowadays, I feel like I'm Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally! You know, substituting all kinds of stuff, ordering dressing on the side, etc. But I figure, I'm paying for it, so I should get it the way I want it! It's not my mom's dinner table! LOL.

It's going to be another long day here at the hospital and the next few are going to be even crazier. I've been trying to stay on track, but it's hard. I was able to bring fruit and veggies for snacks yesterday, but then caved and had a cookie with my subway sandwich. Ugh! I also had a candy bar, which I instantly regretted, cause all that sugar made me feel terrible! It's so amazing to me how I used to crave the stuff, and now my body actually rejects it! This diet is emoticon !

Have a great Friday everyone! I'll keep you posted on the baby's arrival!

Just stopping in for a quick update... Monday night my youngest daughter was having vomiting, heartburn and pain under her ribs and was still having it Tuesday night so she went to the ER and they ran some tests and discovered she was showing signs of preeclampsia. So they decided to induce her and after 2 days, still no baby! But her preeclampsia symptoms have subsided, thank goodness! Hoping that grandbaby comes tomorrow. It's been a crazy month!
I'm having to do this on my phone, so I will post more later.

Hey everyone I think I am caught up everyone seems very motivated and I need to feed off that. When my my mom in law was sick I fell into a lot of bad eating habits and I am trying to get back to healthy eating habits. I know I will feel better if I eat better. I started the diet yesterday but was not prepared food wise. So I will go shopping this weekend and load up on my favorites and be ready. emoticon

Kathymag – I’ll be interested in your take on the Mediterranean diet and how you find it meshes with the 17DD. emoticon I looked at the Mediterranean diet a number of times, but not seriously I guess. Keep us posted please on how you are doing both diet-wise and health-wise.

Tara – emoticon Welcome and best wishes. You are right that the first few days on C1 can be tough, but in the long run, it is well worth it to get away from the unhealthy processed carbs that are not good for us in any way. We are here to support you and look forward to your posts. Stay with it. You can do it.

Kathy – Welcome back. emoticon You have been missed! I knew you would be back when you could be. So sorry about your mother-in-law. emoticon I hope you are finding comfort in knowing that you and your family were there for her for such a long time. Bless you for all you did for her.

Diane – Woo hoo on your walking streak! emoticon Fabulous! And kudos for choosing wisely when your neighbors visited. It’s good that you have identified triggers such a wine leading you to want to stray from your plan. Best to stay clear of the triggers as much as possible. Won’t be long and your new scale will be there. I understand the scale woes as I had a cranky scale before I got the one I have now.

Mia – Ouch on that arm! emoticon I can certainly understand how something like that would interfere with your 17 DD cycles. In the beginning I was very meticulous about knowing what cycle and day I was on, and I followed the program religiously. And of course that is when I had the best weight losses….during all 3 cycles. I went through about 3 or 4 complete cycles, meaning all 3 cycles 3 or 4 times. Then I started to get sloppy about my compliance, allowed other things to get in my way, and got confused about what cycle I was on. And that’s when my weight loss ceased and I gained back some weight. Now I do mostly C2 and with a C3 day thrown in when my social life dictates such. It has been working, and I feel much more in control again. So Mia, Happy R2C1D1 to you!

Beth – Congrats to you for moving on from your French fry slip-up. emoticon We all have had our issues in that regard. The main thing is to keep going, keep following your cycles and live your life. No one is perfect, and what makes this diet so workable to me is that I can follow it on most days, have a little slip up occasionally and then get right back on track. You are doing great! Hope you enjoyed your lunch with your daughter.

Chris – I smile when you post about your granddaughter… emoticon and am looking forward to the arrival of your next one soon. My cousin’s daughter has a 9 month old girl who is just adorable… a little princess and so very pleasant. I was with her on the graduation picnic on Saturday and enjoyed every minute of it.

I am on track and feeling strong these days. Went to a luncheon today for a local service organization (as a guest, not one I am directly involved with). The luncheon was simple and mostly compliant. I had a nice large salad, green beans, and some pork medallions. I skipped the white rice (it didn’t even appeal to me) and skipped the coconut cake (ok, that appealed to me but I said no anyway). A great deal of the work on our home is completed now, including all new windows which are a huge improvement, and beautiful siding as well. Finishing touches will go on probably till Saturday, and then maybe I’ll be able to get the house back in some kind of order.

Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying this spectacular July day!

Thanks, Mia....... I'm gonna tough it out as long as possible. ..... stubborn Irish woman that I am! !

End of day from work is tough. ..... but then everyone is in rough shape at end of day at home depot. ...... our floors are concrete (necessarily)....... so all of our crew are usually pretty tired and achy by the time we leave. ....

Gonna look into my United health care benefit and see if they will pick up a gym membership for me do I can water walk.

Good Morning Everyone.

So sorry to hear of you "broken" girls! I pray that you both have a fast healing. I hate to have to slow down for anything, and breaking an arm or a hip sure would slow you down. Be safe.

In C1D11, just counted it out. Confession time - went out to watch my son play drums in a local band and had dinner. Tried very hard to make good selections: ahi tuna - no problem. Fish sandwich grilled, take off the bun - no problem. but FRENCH FRIES! They were right there on the plate. Did not know they came with it or would have been smart and told them to forget it. So I had a few, and a conch fritter - but only 1!

Perfection I am not, and I guess that is gonna have to do. I am meeting my daughter for lunch, I have a plan for salad with fish or chicken. emoticon

Have a good afternoon.

Beth

emoticon Mia....so sorry you fell and broke your arm.
I fell 3 yrs ago after tripping toe on uneven cobblestone sidewalk in Vail, CO. I went down fast hitting my face/head. Whip lash and shoulder injuries, too. Very painful and scary experience. I never had time to put my hands out to stop myself so avoided the fracture you experienced but my face was a mess! Good luck with your recovery....it takes time!
PS...WTG on staying on track with 17dd.....so easy to give in to comfort foods when you are hurting!!

Hi Everyone!

I haven't checked in because I fell and broke my arm on Saturday. I've been quite accident prone lately! A few weeks ago I cut my finger on the vegetable slicer, and now I tripped over a curb! I really went flying and fell hard.

KathyMag, you have some company now -- I'm "broken" too! Also, I had a hip replacement 3 years ago. I hope you can avoid it, but if you do have to have it done, I'll be glad to answer any questions you might have, if I can. You could always try the cortisone first and see how it goes -- it might at least provide some relief and give you some more time to prepare.

I continue to lose weight very slowly -- a half-pound last week. I have no clue what day I'm on or even what cycle I'm in, and I think I need to figure that out. I still need the rules and the regimentation at this point, because I see I'm getting more and more loosey-goosey with the whole thing. So I think I will declare today as Cycle One Day One! That makes it feel official and doesn't leave any wiggle room.

Glad to see you all here supporting and encouraging each other. This is a group of truly outstanding gals.

emoticon Kathy.....so sorry for your loss. Certainly understand your not being here for a while. Will add my prayers for comfort and peace for you and your family

Tara....hang in there...it does get easier after kicking the sugar/carbs....towards last half of C1. Now I am in C3 and it is clear (for me) just adding a few more "good carbs" makes me want more carbs and I am not talking good ones. emoticon I have to be really careful.

So far have been strong. Invited neighbors over for a few hours last evening and I refrained from wine and had water instead....had a couple pieces of cheese with rice/nut crackers.....also had 4shrimp. All in all I did not feel exactly deprived but felt if I had the wine I would have just indulged in eating more than I should. Wine also causes me to retain water so my choice was to abstain.

Walked again this a.m. 36 day streak!! My "unreliable" scale actually shows me .5 lbs heavier again this morning so I am anxious/nervous to see what the new one says Friday. Can't be gaining .5 just third morning of C3 or I am in trouble!

C1D1!!!

Hi everyone so sorry I went missing again. Last time I checked in my mother in law was in the hospital she passed away 2 weeks after she was admitted and it was really tough on my husband and my 10 and 12 year old kids that were so attached to her and also so tough on me. I was my mother inlaws caretaker for many years, I scheduled doctors appointments, made sure she took her meds and also gave financial support. She was 74 years old and unfortunately since she had been a smoker for many years her lungs just gave out. Given the horrible year we had with both of our kids hospitalized with asthma it was so hard to watch her die this way. So now we are back to normal and time to start taking care of me again. I am so sorry I wasn't here for all the good and bad times as a leader but will try to catch up tonight on my laptop and meet all the new people and check in with all my old friends!!!

Hi all, my name is Tara and I am new to 17DD and this forum. On C1D3 right now. It's hard but I knew it would be. I had to do something to break my addiction to sweets and starchy carbs. I look forward to getting to know everyone here.

Well, folks - it appears that I am broken.

Got moderate damage in my left hip which is causing all the problems. I'm shortly off to my last visit at PT - as PT really isn't helpful with this condition.

My next options are cortizone or hip replacement - my call. For now.....I'll be doing what I have been doing until I can't stand it anymore - then I'll call my orthopod back for next steps.

In the meantime, she suggests SAM-e for pain management and adjust diet to more of a Mediterranean style......the Mediterranean Diet really helps to reduce edema and inflammation.

That's doable and still staying within the parameters of the 17 Day Diet.....in fact, I think it's probably preferable in my case.

Bummed I didn't have a better outcome - but I'll get over it.....

Beth - emoticon I meant to thank you yesterday for your kind words! Yesterday was a bad day, but today is going to be better. I love Spin class, and am also very impressed that you are a sub! I could barely do the class, much less do it and lead others at the same time. emoticon I have a spinning cycle, which I had to leave behind for now... can't wait until I can get it back and start working out on that again! It really works your legs, so I understand completely about not having any for Zumba (another of my faves) afterwards!

Thanks Tammy! Yes, I thank God every day for my wonderful mom and that she is still around to be able to help me out, and that I can help her out at the same time! And I got to see my wonderful granddaughter last night, who is just a little over 2 months old now, and starting to coo and really notice her surroundings. Her smiles yesterday melted my heart and made me feel so much better. And my 2nd granddaughter is due in less than 2 weeks. Yes, I believe God knows what he is doing, even though it may be painful right now; I have LOTS to be thankful for and LOTS to look forward to. Some days are just harder... but I am getting through those knowing that the Lord has blessed me in many, many ways!

Hope everyone has a TERRIFIC TUESDAY!

Beth – You substitute teach a spin class! I am impressed! Way to go to burn up the calories and help others at the same time! And working over the weekend too. Bravo to you! Glad your day started off well. I am sure you will keep the momentum going.

Diane – Your attitude is great which tells me your efforts are just as great. Poo-poo on the scale for now. You are doing everything you need to do so when you have a reliable scale your successes will eventually show up there. And you will smile, and so will I smile with you.

Chris – Ugh indeed! I am so glad you are moving on as well as you are. Thank God you have your mom to help you as much as she can. You will get through this and come out on top. I just know it.

Well I am happy to be back on my healthy routine this glorious Monday. The 2 parties I went to over the weekend were very enjoyable. It was easier to stay compliant at yesterday’s anniversary party than at Saturday’s graduation party. Stayed the same on the scale today but really need to buckle down so that I don’t see a gain at next weigh in. The guys are still working on the outside of the house. It is looking good but I am ready for it to be finished already...They tell me it should be finished by Friday.....Let's hope!

Here’s to a wonderful week for this wonderful team!

Thanks for the hugs and kind words, Diane. Yes, I believe I have a very good atty, and lots of family, friends and co-workers, including this wonderful bunch of spark friends! I feel blessed to have so many people who care about me. It certainly helps me keep going through these dark days. I know that there is light at the end of this tunnel, and it's not the train! LOL

I love C3. I followed the no alcohol and no carbs after 2 rule, and was able to lose weight during C3. I would also recommend staying away from some of the optional snacks. I could do the light string cheese, but not the skinny cow ice cream treats. Those are a big trigger for me, and I would find I would start having one every night if I wasn't careful. I know that you will do well!

Take care and have a great week!

Thanks everyone for supportive words....I will keep strong. Scale said 154.5 this a.m.....that is 1.5 up from my last posted 153. I will wait and actually record the weight on Friday after my new scale is in place and settled in it's new home....LOL. Whatever it says will be like a new start for me...as I question all my past numbers right from day 1.

Today is first day cycle 3...wow! I can't believe how far I have come on this journey! I will add the extra calories and starches etc....but still going to do my best not to have carbs after 2:00 and no alcohol. Book says if you do those two things in cycle 3 you may even lose in cycle 3....I feel like by adding carb/calories every day, I will more likely gain but time will tell. I feel like I am jumping off the high dive board and hoping I don't belly flop....LOL....here I go......

emoticon Chris...so sorry you are dealing with all this stress....hope you have a good atty to give you counsel....and friends close by to give you hugs. You certainly have my admiration for sticking to healthy eating....I don't think I could be so strong....hang in there!

Hang in there Diane - you are doing GREAT!! I know that you are frustrated because of your scale, but knowing that your clothes are fitting more loosely is a big motivator. emoticon

I wouldn't worry too much about the scale right now, just stay on plan and you will do great! I know what you mean about it being harder to lose with your health issues. I am on prednisone, and was when I started the 17DD last February. It was very hard because the prednisone makes me super hungry and usually makes me retain water like crazy. But in spite of all that, I was still able to get to my goal weight. So if I can do it, I know that anyone can! Just keep pushing forward and you will continue to see good results, regardless of what the scale says! Stay strong!!

Ok, my day just got worse... just checked the checking account that I am a joint owner on, and saw that my soon to be ex is now on a trip to Florida with his mistress, while I am struggling to make ends meet and borrowing money from my 80 year old mother! UGH!!!!! I'm trying to hang in there, but it's things like this that really set me back!

Hope everyone has a great week!

Good Morning! Happy Monday. I am already looking forward to the weekend! Ha. Worked hard this weekend on our business, got a big order in and had to write it up, but we sorely needed it so I was glad to do it. Plus Spin class Sat/Sun - I am a substitute instructor. I forgot how much spinning kicks your butt! Tried to practice a new Zumba song after Sunday's class and had NO LEGS. Really!

But onward to a new week.

Newday - I hope that new scale gives you some satisfaction. It seems like you are doing all the right things, gotta trust the process thathas worked before and will work again. :)

Tammy - I cannot imagine it is easy to relax/rest with workers in your kitchen! On the brights side you will have an awesome new space for preparing those healthy meals.

Chris - DogWalker - I do not know what your ex did, haven't had time to read back in the posts but hope that you begin to feel lightness in your heart and good things start appearing in your life.

I am looking forward to getting to know you all. Cannot post all the time cuz I am at work, but will be checking in.

So far so good, the day is off to a happy start. Expect good things!

Scale woes continue after it was moved. Definitely cannot count on the number and have a new scale on order.....arrives Thursday. Scale is very old and battery is likely going bad and is part of the issue (cannot be changed in this old model....no access).

I am discouraged, sometimes think maybe my whole time weighing the last 33 days cannot be counted on as accurate at all. I know my clothes are fitting much looser BUT.....Wondering how much I have really lost? The last weight I recorded (if correct) said I had lost 10 lbs after almost 2full cycles and being really true to diet and exercising daily. It is so hard with all my health/age issues to lose! Sigh!

Today is my last day on cycle 2 and will start cycle 3 tomorrow. Planning to follow it and start fresh with new scale at whatever number it tells me. I know it's not the actual number I end up weighing but how I feel and how I look in my clothes....I am wanting to get down a minimum of one size to a comfortable 10.
I want reward for effort, too (number wise)....or I will not be able to remain
as strong as I have been these 33 days! emoticon

Beth – Thanks for your prayers. I feel a lot better today…still not 100% but much better.

Chris – I understand your pain regarding your husband. But I have faith that you will move on and be stronger than ever. When trust is gone, there really isn’t anything worthwhile left. Thanks for your prayers too. So happy that today was better for me. I agree with you about the need for rest. It makes a huge difference for me too. I was able to get some things done today, but I did not over-do it. Your pizza sounds delicious. I hope to make it one of these days. A friend often gives us zucchini from his garden so perhaps when he does I’ll try the recipe.

Diane – Bless you and your hubby sharing 50 years together...High school sweethearts? As for drinking water, I always have water near me, either in a bottle or in a glass. I think it really does make a difference in our weight loss efforts. Loser clothes are a great indicator of success. Woo Hoo for you!

Mia – Hope you are enjoying the weekend.

I managed to accomplish some things today and am celebrating that. The guys are still here working on the house and will be for about another week or so I think. (The 2 big projects are new siding and all new windows. They are also doing some other smaller projects while they are here.) It is disruptive but worth it in the long run. Today they installed a new range hood/exhaust/light over the stove. I love it, and their work is true perfection. The down side is that it is hard to rest when they are here working. Today I did ok but not perfect with my eating….not making excuses (?) but I know I will do better when I feel better. I did go out through with my dinner plans. It turned out to be an absolutely fabulous time. So even though I wasn’t in the mood to go, I am glad I went. Another busy weekend for me socially….graduation party for my cousin’s daughter tomorrow and an anniversary party for some church friends on Sunday (second marriage for both who are in their 60s and this is their 1st anniversary…..see Chris there is hope for all of us!).

Here's to a great Saturday for everyone!

TGIF everyone! It's been kind of a rough week for me, both at work and emotionally. I am trying so hard to see the positive in this mess with my soon to be ex, but it is still very painful to think that the man who I was going to spend the rest of my life with could do something so low! Those of you who have such wonderful DH's, treasure them and let them know how much you appreciate the little things, like cleaning the laundry room floor! I hope that one day I can find someone like that to share the rest of my days with.

Ok, enough of my pity party! You guys ROCK! I am so happy to see all of you posting! This team was dying a slow death and you have rejuvenated it in a huge way!

Tammy - I hope that you are ok. I'm keeping you in my prayers. Nothing worse than an autoimmune flare-up! Try to get as much rest as you can. I know that helps me more than anything when I feel one coming on. It's only been very recently that I have even been able to tell the signs, but I am getting better. For those of you who don't know, I have been diagnosed with Sjogren's Syndrome, but also tested positive for lupus and RA. FUN times!!

I made that zucchini pizza casserole for my mom and me last night. I used fat-free cheeses, turkey pepperoni and black olives as my toppings. It was quite yummy! It definitely kicked my pizza craving! And my mom liked it as well. We froze the leftovers and I'll let you know how those heat up!

Have a great weekend!

Scale number is finally down 1/2 lb but with all my scale issues I am not more confident that is accurate number or accurate direction for purposes of my weight loss graphing. I sense body wise I am losing and I have remained true to 17day diet, especially careful about the no carbs after 2:00. I don't have any carbs after my lunch on carb days and that would be by 1:00.

My worst diet busters are sometimes forgetting to drink enough water and getting enough rest this past week.....some personal family stress issues (the worst kind for me....out of my control....but not my thoughts).

Possibly my calories are too low which might add days to my plateau time but if not hungry I don't eat more. Had same issue last time on diet....calories often under 1200 so this time I am not counting them intentionally!

I feel I am on track with weight at least heading in the right direction and my clothes getting looser...yeah!

Good Morning! TGIF!!!

Tammy I hope you start feeling better. You are in my prayers, new friend. Lupus is definitely not for sissys. :( I did not realize nuts are in all cycles, that is great news. I have to count them out or else I eat too many but the almonds are very handy to have at the office to get me over the tough hungry times due to small breakfast. I get to work so early it is hard to get a decent breakfast into me before I leave the house. So I have a yogurt, fruit, or nuts or all 3 to make it to lunch. On lunch break I go to the gym 3 days a week for weight training, so eat my lunch late at my desk.

It is all a juggling act. DH has me working at home in evenings, so I struggle to balance work with pleasure. I know from past experience all work and no play makes me very unhappy. Rest seems to be the first thing to go out the window.

Here's to a lovely Friday for us all.

Beth
