Thanks Tammy....so far no ill effects from that piece of cake except wishing I had some more, lol!

Yes, the autoimmune flares and diseases can be pretty rough. My mothers side of family is riddled with RA and Lupus, my grandmother had both, her mother had RA, my mom's youngest sister died of complications of lupus, age 52. A couple uncles and a male cousin have severe RA....my one sister has aggressive, severe deforming RA. Some cousins have (like I do) a milder connective tissue or non specific autoimmune disease.....and/or fibromyalgia. The most severe cases all smoked which I believe contributed to severity of the disease. Lucky for me I did not smoke! My first rheumatologist was ahead of his time, into B vitamins, warm water exercise, not rushing into steroid use, NSAIDs instead....eating well, good nights sleep, no smoking and no alcohol....he had me be very careful when first problems arose (iritis, extreme high sed rate, some ms symptoms, etc)...I credit him with helping my disease stay mild/moderate....he told me if I could be very cautious the first year then it would determine the course of my disease...I could tip it to aggressive with wrong treatment and by my lifestyle. I have been fortunate compared to so many!

Weight has plateaued again...better than gaining for sure!
Good luck with the colonoscopy!

Kathy - You are on a roll. Yippee on that pound gone! And same for your walking progress! Such a good feeling. It will be interesting to see what your rheumatologist says. I had my blood work done yesterday and see my rheumatologist on Oct. 3.

Diane - I doubt that you will have any negative impact from that piece of cake. I've even heard it said that a high carb treat like that can trigger a loss (the carb cycling folks told me that at one time). All of these autoimmune diseases can really wear us down. My mother had lupus. She was diagnosed in the early 60s when I think diagnoses were not particularly sophisticated. I often wonder if she really had lupus or something else under the autoimmune umbrella. At times I wonder if she really had RA. They are so closely related (I was originally thought to have lupus but my disease seems to be more consistent with RA per my rheumatologist. I feel for your sister. I have seen folks with her severe form of RA and it is so very difficult to deal with.

I am feeling better today than when I posted last time. I had a bunch of errands to run today, and I am happy I got them all done. I was easily on track today. I even took a chicken breast with me in the car to keep me on track because I wasn't sure what time I would get to eat. That chicken breast was just what I needed. I didn't stray while running around today and wasn't even tempted to do a drive through! I am having a routine colonoscopy on Monday, my first. I know it is just routine, but I tend to be highly anxious about these sorts of things, so I will just be glad when it is all over. I know the prep on Sunday will not be fun, but I know I can do it.

Time to confess...I had piece of German chocolate cake yesterday about 3:00. So it was pure carb, off diet and after 2:00, yikes! So even after patting myself on the back about another pound gone a few days ago and losing 10 lbs, I still caved and ate it. Was not planned!! But, maybe, I will allow myself another treat like that after I get to -15? That might keep me from wanting another sweet cheat before then...doesn't sound sooo far away, lol!

Good news is I ate on track for dinner and evening snack was Activia lite yogurt even though DH has ice cream bars in freezer. Today I will be on track....and I am going to the gym! Scale did not change from one indulgence and I think I was able to have that one piece of cake without kicking in my addiction to carbs....time will tell.

Boy!!! I'm starting to get optimistic!! Went to visit the local vampire, then to the bank, then to the grocery store...... Most of it walking carrying my cane but not using it!!!

Still using it for inclines/declines and stairs..... And I still use the mobile cart in the store.... But other than that. ... Everything was done under my own power!!

I'm achy today, but the pain is not unbearable for a change......I am hopeful that things are finally getting better for real!!!

I see my rheumatologist next Thursday..... I'll be interested to see what he has to say.

Getting to the point that I can really focus on getting my heart stabilized...... Yay!!!!

Kathy...whooWoo on losing another lb! Feels great when we get rewarded for eating on track!!

Tammy...sorry your RA is flaring. My closest sister has RA and is so deformed in hands and feet! She has had hand surgeries and her toes cut off and realigned twice...and says no more surgery! Lots of painful days! Very thankful I do not have RA or Lupus....my heart goes out to you!

Though my issues are not as severe....you and Kathy both sound like me....having physical issues which plague and flare on us! (I might think it was my turning 70...except I have had my connective tissue disease since I was 35). Believe my flares are sooner felt and take longer to resolve and their are many times I feel like it's "always flared", never quite gone at this stage of my life. It can be discouraging, but I do my best not to let it get me down.

Massage this morning and therapist wants me back in 2 weeks...usually go once a month...but she knows me, has fibromyalgia herself, and I trust her when she says I need to come back. I am generally feeling a bit "off" and very tired today. Massage is sometimes only thing that helps! Keeps me moving!

Time to go help DH with another project!

Woo Hoo Diane....kicking another pound to the curb. I so admire your working out the way you do. That is so good for you for weight loss and general well being. Ah, coffee on the patio, smelling the roses....what a lovely way to start the day!

I am a bit out of sorts today. I just feel not myself and am not sure why. It could be a bit of an RA flare working on me. I did ok at coffee hour on Sunday and for the rest of the day well. There was plenty of fruit and great conversation at coffee hour, so I was quite happy.

I plan to get to bed early tonight in the hopes of feeling better when I wake up tomorrow.

Looking forward to a good week for all of us!

All of a sudden the computer tells me "error reloading" and everything was gone. Just when I was about to hit return and post....very frustrating. So we ran errands, got a new rug for patio, new tires on our car and I am back to try again!

Thanks, Tammy, yes we are happy to be back home in AZ and settling in. This morning our first cup of coffee was on the patio "smelling the roses" which no one ever does enough these days!
So peaceful. I knew you would be on 17dd track and likely did very well resisting at church, too. Since you plan ahead so well even when you allow yourself a treat it does not derail you!!

Scale has been kind again for two days in a row I am 165, another lb gone...WhoHoo! Slowly and surely the weight is coming off.....after another 10 lbs, I will really see a huge difference, can't wait!!

I have been to exercise twice since we arrived here on Friday and today being Monday, I hope to go again later. The gym replaced all the equipment in the gym. The older NuStep machines are now SciFit machines! What a change! Space age look, new very complex programing screen, although you still do all the moving and effort this machine has various hills and resistance increase built in. I programmed 6 hills into my 30 min workout time allowed. Then I resigned in for another 15 and did sort of a cool down, lol. Still dripping wet when I left. My steps were not nearly as many but it was a much tougher climbing workout (sort of like you can set on a treadmill...except the machine does not move only the resistance gets tougher).

Good news is I brought my K tapes along in case I needed them and did not have to tape. And today both my knees are feeling normal (as normal as I get). So after reading and watching youtube videos on this SciFit trainer it says it is for heart rehab, knee rehab, hip rehab....has many more adjustments to seat height, back rest, arm handles, distance from pedals etc. All good. If I knew how to post a picture here I would because it is high tech machine!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Diane - So good to know that you arrived safely. Enjoy the beautiful weather and your visits from friends. It all sounds delightful to me. I say celebrate that .4 pound loss. You are on a roll!

I walked and walked today and feel it tonight, even though a lot of the walking was holding on to the cart at the grocery store. I did fine again with staying on track. Tomorrow, like most Sundays, will be a challenge because of the coffee hour after church. I always get a coffee first and wait until there is no line for the goodies, then I go to get whatever I want. If there is fruit there, I am safe. If not, it becomes a bit of a struggle. Most Sundays there is fruit.

Hello from sunny and warm AZ! Highs in 90's instead of 100's so we are very happy with the 10 day forecast!

Could not resist weighing this a.m. to see what happened on the road...and I am down .4 lb unless this scale is different than MN...which it could be, lol. Same scale exactly but you never know? That said, I will just go from this number and hope it continues to go down, not up.

With that goal I am going to head to gym to do my own form of cardio/cardiac rehab! The NuStep machine at full throttle! Not sure if my knee will let me do my usual 10,000 steps but will give it my best. Last time only could do 5000 before I knew I had to stop. No use wrecking the knee so I have to rest it...that leads to no steps...so any I am up to doing feels wonderful.

Time to boogie....take care all!

Kathy - I am crossing my fingers for you too. How often will you go to your cardiac rehab?? Several of my friends are doing senior yoga. I would be interested in trying it but am not sure I can find a convenient location. I think I will try to do some of the yoga videos I've seen online.

I am always so happy on Fridays when my organic delivery arrives. Today is no exception. Among the "treasures" in my box are beautiful romaine and amazing blueberries. I love my blueberries with my probiotic cottage cheese for breakfast. It really fills me up and is so healthy.

It's looking like we are going to have a thunderstorm any minute now, so I am signing off and unplugging the computer.

Here's to a wonderful weekend for all! emoticon

There are several apps that measure heart rate.....I like the one I have because it gives a strip that can be held in history. Very helpful when reporting anomalies......

Kathy - I think I have seen a TV commercial for the app you mentioned or something similar. Another wonder of medical science.

Diane - I though of you while I was grocery shopping today. I put a noncompliant item (candy) back on the shelf....was rationalizing it would be for DS....but better to not have it in the house. You are so kind entertaining your friends while you winter in AZ.

I was on track today, but it was a bit of a struggle. I think I am past the danger point now. I find that if I can make it to a certain hour (like 9 or 10 pm), I don't want to ruin a good day by messing up before bed.

Hard to believe tomorrow is Friday already!

HI..from the "road"...just checked into our hotel....we have a shorter 4-5 hour drive tomorrow before we are back home in Phoenix. Weather has been really nice for the drive and crossing my fingers we have another smooth travel day tomorrow.

My beakfasts and lunches have been on 17dd track....some small amounts of carbs in my dinner choices but not terrible. Like you, June, I think I should be in cycle 3 about now but mostly I try to stay in cycle 1-2. I plan to do cycle 1-2 until I lose another 10 lbs...then maybe do a cycle 3.

So glad you checked in June and all is well! I have been down the start/stop 17dd road for the last few years and sometimes doing the diet for several days before derailing myself sometimes for days/weeks until I would try again....recommitting has been sooo hard for me....but I believe this time is the time it will stick....and I am still telling myself it's ok if I can't but just do my best each food choice! Every time you make the good 17dd healthy choice is good! Don't beat yourself up about that 50% you mentioned that is not so on track....do your best today and start fresh on Track, as soon as you are able.

Kathy..so sorry about your A Fib issues...my sister is on 100mg Metropolol twice daily and some other heart drug which I just can't think of and so far it seems to be helping. She is prone to panic attacks and can really get stressed out sometimes which is what we think caused this episode which sent her to ICU. I don't know enough about A Fib to know any other triggers except caffeine and energy drinks which I have been warned about and so has she.....I hope you feel better and the doctors can get you back on a steady beat!

Tammy...thanks for keeping me in your thoughts as we travel....I will check in again tomorrow evening after I do some settling into our home in Phoenix.

I only have a few days before we have our first overnight company...think he will be with us about 5 nights? We have a number of guests during the winter....many who stay extended visits....keeps us busy and we like to share the sunshine with family and friends!

Yes........I keep a record of every event to report to my doctor. If I can't get my heart to go back into sinus rhythm by myself...... That means a trip to the ER to get their assistance.

I was actually on my way to urgent Care for this last one...... But my frantic walk to the car fixed it.

I have an application on my phone that measures my heart rate and gives me a "strip" that I can show the doc. Also tells me visually if my heart is in or out of rhythm, tho my lack of air usually tells me that anyway.

I'll probably have to go back to Oahu in October for a second repair...... It's looking that way.

In the meantime, I'm on medications to help prevent stroke.

June - Glad to see your post and that you are ok. If it is any consolation to you, I never lose anything on C3. It is my least favorite cycle for weight loss.

Kathy - Happy to see that your heart is ok again. Do you need to see a doctor after such an episode, even if your heart goes back into rhythm all on its own. I have a friend with A-fib, but I don't know too much about it.

Diane - Hope you are enjoying "the road."

Another good day in the books for me. I must admit, I am amazed at how smoothly I get back on track lately after indulging (like I did on Sunday at the church dinner). Today was another busy day for me, and I feel sooooo good when I can cross off items on my "to do" list. I have been procrastinating on a few items on the list, and today I tackled them and got them done easily. Sometimes I think I just have to be in the right mood to do some things. And I do see a correlation between my level of productivity and my compliance level. Tomorrow holds some challenges for me, but I am going to really try to keep this compliance momentum going.

Happy Hump Day Everyone!

At the bottom of your food log there is a radial for "nutrition report"...... Click on that and it will bring up a pie chart of how your fats, carbs & proteins are portioned for the day.

It's very helpful and a great visual when trying to see if we're over loading on any one of those elements

Hey Everyone, I have been so busy lately I haven't posted. I also slipped a little, I am off track about 50% of the time and am sure I haven't lost anything the last 10 days. To be honest I know I am in cycle 3 but not sure what day, I think maybe day 10. I was off track to long and I am finding it hard to jump back in 100%. I think Saturday I am just going to start back on cycle 1.

Diane, I see the scale has gone down since I was here last, congrats to you.

Tammy, you are always so busy with social things, not sure how you do it, staying on track or mostly on track.

Kathy, tell me more about this pie chart thing!

Well....... Had a long drawn out episode with A-fib today......I couldn't seem to get my ticker back into sinus rhythm by myself...... So I left work with the intention of going to urgent Care. Just the walk from my office to the car was enough to get my sinus rhythm back...... And now I'm good. Keeping a close eye on things, but I seem to be steady-eddy right now.

Have no idea what set it off...... Very strange!!

And late evening here. Diane, Boy do I ever agree with you about changing bed linens being a chore. I always do a happy dance when that is done. Safe and happy traveling Diane. I would love to be somewhere where it doesn't snow or ice in the winter. But alas, it's not in the cards for me at the moment.

Kathy, I hope you do get to the pool. That too sounds lovely.

I had a super busy day, which was good because it kept me super on track. I think tomorrow will be the same kind of day because I have a lot to do and not a lot of time to get things done.

Stay well everyone!

Early afternoon here...been busy all morning packing and doing more laundry...all the beds have clean sheets now! That is such a chore!

We depart tomorrow early a.m. So likely my last weigh in until we land in AZ....and then I probably won't weigh for a day or two because of water retention....but then again I may not be able to not peek, lol! When I allow myself to stop weighing I know I am in trouble because I can let myself eat & gain, gain, gain! Ignorance becomes bliss and mental permission to eat when and what I want, sigh.

We heard from friends on our street that it is 105 today! Yikes, that will take a bit of adjustment....but won't be long and 90's will be the highs which is truly lovely in Phoenix. Mid winter ranges 60's to 70's and is perfect!

Just finishing my tea and time to get back to work....take care all!! Let's all flex those resistance muscles Tammy mentioned!

Great tip about saying "no" in the grocery store Diane. That is something I need to continue to work on. I rationalize some purchases saying to myself that they are for DS, but I know really I buy things for him that I too enjoy....ugh! What mind games I play sometimes.

Today was a relatively good day, though not totally compliant. My plans for the day were disrupted a bit and I got overly hungry and indulged in some carbs that I typically would have avoided. I have to get my resistance muscles back to work or I will see the scale go up not down.

Darn.....almost done posting and then it was all gone! Mystery of Internet life, lol!

Will try to say same stuff in less words, lol....

Thanks Tammy for your encouraging words! Doing my best to follow your examples (like church dinner) is helping me sooo much! WTG!

Scale is same 166.4 today. That is 10 lb milestone because when I first committed to myself to lose this weight I was 176, and hoped to lose about 30 lbs! My ticker is not showing the 176 because it took me a bit to really commit and get back on Sparks and set up goals...and I was down some by then!

Hope everyone is feeling good today. I felt out of sorts and lacked any energy all yesterday (believe it was stress induced)....achy, like the start of flu...some better today!

Will pass on one tip from start page (which I actually have used to help me put something back on the shelf )...."saying "No" once in grocery store....saves us having to be strong enough to say 'No' over and over until that food is gone from our house"!

Kathy - Thanks for sharing your nutritional info. I think you are right...you've got this.

And so does Diane. Super going Diane on your new low. And super too for handling such a stressful situation and not running for the cookies!

I did ok at the dinner today, all things considered. I skipped the desserts but did indulge in some of the noncompliant side dishes. I am ok about that as long as I return to my plan tomorrow. I am fortunate in that a friend from the church packed up a "care package" for me for DS, so he will have plenty of food choices and I won't have to cook anything special for him for at least the next 3 days. So I can focus on my food needs alone.

June - How are you? Where are you?? Miss you!

Let's have another great week together!

Kathy..WooHoo, WTG!! Glad you are feeling better and on track with your diet!!

Very stressful morning for me. I'm in charge picking up granddaughter,15, airport Mpls. She was almost stranded at Nashville airport (her airport driver did not show up and did not depart on time). I won't bore everyone with long saga, as resolved in the best way possible! She just made 30 min cutoff & with a bag to check! My stomach is still in knots & lucky I had no choc chip cookies etc to chow down! GD traveling alone and her mom out of state! Thank goodness for cell phones!

We ate out last night, tenderloin steak, asparagus, 1/2 plain sm. baked potato. Scale today was down again to new low, 166.4 !!! Made me so happy I did not have wine or dessert others were having!

Wishing everyone a beautiful Sunday!

i write my posts from my iPhone, so "add an image" isn't offered......Boo!

Today my nutritional balance is pretty much in thirds of the pie chart: 32% fat, 40% protein, 28% carbs.

That high protein is helping me with my physical repair work!!! Yay!!

For me, this balance is working really well!!!

Yesterday, carbs were higher..... Fat & protein slightly lower...... But the pie chart is always portioned in relatively equal thirds.

By George, I think I've got it!!! emoticon

Kathy - Wow, sounds like you are really on a roll! Good for you! Tell us about your nutritional balance! I am very interested. And I know if its from you it is emoticon
Did you try clicking on the "add an image" tab to add your photo? I wonder what the problem is.

A good day so far here. I am a bit tired today but with RA these days happen.

Dang!!! I'm so frustrated that this module won't let me add a photo!!! Wanted to show you my nutritional balance!!

Guess you'll just have to believe that it's *awesome*!!

Much more active day today without a lot of difficulty........ Very exciting stuff!! Big improvement over yesterday, which wasn't that great....

But!!! I'm seeing more "good" days...... And moving more and more without worrying about falling. Still carry the cane for inclines, declines and stairs...... But doing a lot more independent walking without it! Woo hoot!!!

Diane - I appreciate your encouragement. Like you I tell myself there are times when I will have those "other foods" again. And I mostly don't miss those high carb sides, except when in some social situations. I know Sunday will be a busy day for me overall due to some other commitments so I think I won't linger too long at the dinner. You mentioned making the "best choices" on menus....that is exactly how I like to approach those situations...almost like a game...let's win this game!

Today was a pretty easy day. Our organic delivery arrived (every Friday) and I ordered some salmon this week again, so that was my dinner. DS had pizza.....it didn't even tempt me. Both of us enjoyed a lovely salad as well.

Mentally prepared....yes, Tammy, it takes a lot of mental prep to keep on 17dd track! You will do great at the church dinner....and yes, I try not to think about all those high carb side dishes....my favorite and big downfall foods when not on 17dd. You are strong, you can do this!

I am telling myself days ahead of time....the same mantra "you can do this" about restaurant road meals 3 times a day and resisting road snacks (while DH has his) etc....now I just learn we are going out for a goodbye dinner with our son and his wife tomorrow night (another, I can do this). I am mentally preparing what might be on the menus and thinking of my best choices!

I try not to look at this 17dd as "I can never have ____ again" (because eventually I can and will have some of those treats in maintenance mode)....but do my best to see 17dd as one day, one meal, one choice at a time....and know we can all do this!

All that said, Tammy....you have been practicing17dd concepts for a long time. You are so strong, and know when you can allow yourself one of those rare treats and also know when you do decide to allow yourself 3 bites, for example, it will not derail you...you will get right back on track next meal.

Kathy - Great quote. I am probably one of the few folks on the planet who is not on FB. Maybe someday.

Diane - So happy to hear of your latest scale visit! Way to go! Very, very motivating. Thanks so much for telling me about your BIL and for sharing your insights. I truly appreciate that. I am fairly certain I will have the surgery while my doc is still doing it. He is one of the best, and I trust him immensely. It is the time I would be out of commission that worries me a great deal. Age does creep up on us, doesn't it?

I had an on track day and expect the same for tomorrow and Saturday. Sundays seem to bring challenges for me, and this coming Sunday I am going to a dinner at my former church. I know I can resist the desserts but I am a bit more concerned about the high carb side dishes so common at these dinners. So I am already starting to get mentally ready to do remain compliant.

Kathy so true about all those things that lift our spirits/keep us happier....I certainly enjoy my exercise more when I do it to Chuck Berry, Johnny Cash, oldies/goodies. I start moving faster and remember dancing to that music when I was "Sweet Little Sixteen". Now, if I tried to actually dance like that my hips hurt and my knees ache....but still able to "chair dance"!

We took our GD out for her 16th B Day last night! Hard to believe I was that young and naive at that age....and yet I thought I was sooo grown up! At 16, I started dating my hubby and we married when I was 20...it will be our 50th Annv this March. That makes me 70 for sure and here I thought that must be a mistake, lol!

Tammy...My BIL is 77. Has been "rooster combing" his knees to postpone much needed knee replacements. He can hardly walk at times and in June told me he has reached the point he is talking about finally biting the bullet and doing it. He wanted to do both at once but now the same doctor who said a few years ago he could do that....has now told him No to that idea and doctor is not sure he wants to do even one knee because of BIL's health issues (which have gotten worse in the last 2 yrs)...a fine line between doing it too soon and waiting too long which it appears my BIL may have done. All that story to say it might be a blessing in disguise, receiving a 4 year notice for getting yours replaced. Certainly entails a huge recovery & rehab....but after it is over, everyone I know is walking without pain and so happy they had the surgery.....of course, a good surgeon you trust, is very important, too. I wish you all the best with making this big decision!!

Saw this quote on FB today:

"In many shamanic societies, if you came to a medicine person complaining of being disheartened, dispirited, or depressed, they would ask one of four questions. When did you stop dancing? When did you stop singing? When did you stop being enchanted by stories? When did you stop finding comfort in the sweet territory of silence?"

Same scale, new lower number...167.2, I am sooo stoked. After what seemed like a long plateau the scale finally moved the last few days! I had hoped to be down 10 lbs by the time we arrived in Phoenix and it will be close, yeah!!!

Heading out the door for massage. I try to do it once monthly...it helps me to keep on moving!

Have a wonderful day on the 17dd track!!

Diane - Congrats on your new happy number on the scale! I agree with you about adopting healthier eating habits as a result of this diet. And I think all these little things help us to reach our goals.

Kathy - Oh yes, MSG is not good. When I remember I ask for "no MSG" in my food when in an Asian restaurant. But I don't always remember to do so. I didn't get the bloating from yesterday's meal, so maybe they didn't use much. I think you have a good likelihood of reaching your goal in time for your doctor appointment. You are a master of this plan!

I did ok today, but feel a bit out of sorts, maybe from all the dreariness and rain today. I had a good visit with my orthopedic doctor. We talked about possible knee replacement surgery. He told me that because of the deformities in both of my knees the surgery would be more complicated that usual and that because of that he would do only one knee at a time. He knows that I am not in a hurry to get this done for more than one reason. He told me he will be doing surgery for only 4 more years, so if I want him to do the surgery (and I do) I will have to have the surgery in the next 4 years. He says he plans to retire in 7 years but will stop doing surgery in 4 years. So now I have more to think about.

Tammy...I don't know what is in Asian food that makes me retain water but it does...so like you, I skip the scale for a day or two after, lol. Even when I was not actively doing 17dd I would try to eat healthier for a couple days after I indulged in Chinese, a fav (which I seldom eat because DH hates Asian food of any kind).

So many 17dd tips and eating habits stayed with me even when I went off the rails and gained my weight back....shudder to think how much more I might have gained if I had not kept using some 17dd principals.

I avoided scale after our mini vacation up north...traveling by plane or long car trip always makes me retain fluid, too. Maybe the hours of sitting without getting up and moving around? 1800 mile road trip begins one week from today...as we migrate to AZ for the winter. Planning some healthy snacks for myself on the road. DH will have granola bars, chips, pretzels and one snickers each day (my usual was a Mounds Dark Choc bar).....keeps his energy up for driving 12 hrs a day....and he mostly saves that kind of candy treat for "road food" (also, he does not need to diet too much anyway as he is tall and lanky).

Even with more sitting the last week the scale has been kind to me. I was down another .2 lbs this a.m. to hit a new low number of 168 even.....slowly and surely this eating plan is working! I might even try the gym today but will do it carefully and see if my knee can work that NuStep machine on low level of resistance?

Diane -Sounds like you have a good grip on your knee situation, but the opportunity to be seen at the Mayo Clinic is great. I know they are cutting edge in so many areas. I have heard a number of possibilities for knee treatments that are in the works but not available yet, including a procedure involving stem cells and another involving a minimally invasive procedure that restores lost cartilage. For now it seems like Euflexxa shots is the treatment of choice. I had the series of 4 shots in July/August. They have helped somewhat but I am still feeling pain and need cane or walker support to walk. I see my orthopedic doctor tomorrow. I am not expecting anything major as a result of this appointment.

I just got back from the Thai dinner with my friends. The food was excellent as usual. And the portion was not huge. I did order Red Curry chicken and veggies and was pleased. There were a lot of veggies, and the sauce wasn't too heavy, but still not compliant I am sure. I didn't eat a lot all day before going to dinner so I am not expecting a huge gain...but just to keep my motivation high, I think I will avoid the scale for several days.

Tammy...sorry you have ongoing knee pain. I feel fortunate that this has been one of my worst bouts with it....chronic but manageable usually. This time it hit harder depth of pain lasted longer than usual so it may be getting worse. A part of aging I guess.

If it isn't better this winter in AZ (usually is) then next summer I will have it looked at (maybe Mayo) when we are back in MN. Right now it it pretty good again, able to walk without wearing the compression sleeve. It's there but not acutely painful....just enough to keep me cautious and walk slower!

On 17 DD track and hungry for dinner....more veggies on my plate. I am fixing spagetti for DH and I will just have hamburger meat and veggies. Enjoy your salmon whenever you are able...I had broiled walleye up north and it was very good. Not usually found on local a menu though!

Diane - I LOVE salmon and could eat it every day, but I don't because I try to mix things up a bit. I just wish DS liked salmon. He really doesn't like to eat anything that swims, except for tuna salad (loaded with mayo)....or some breaded/fried fish. So when I make a healthy fish for myself I have to cook a second meal for DS but he is pretty easy to please otherwise and in general is a healthy eater. Ouch on your knee! I am bone-on-bone in both knees, so I can empathize with your pain. Some days are better than others for me. Yesterday after church, perhaps because I stood too much, I barely made it in to coffee hour and actually had to hold the hand of a sweet young man at church...and I had my cane in my other hand. As the day went on my knees felt better. I do fine with a walker, but pride gets in my way most of the time.

I had another good day. I have to admit that my resistance muscles are working. I have been on track all day.....yogurt with fresh blueberries for breakfast, fruit and veggies for lunch with a little leftover chicken, and baked chicken with mushrooms for supper. Very filling and satisfying.

I am supposed to go out to dinner tomorrow for Thai food (my absolute favorite) with two friends. I know I can make wise choices, but will I? My favorite Thai foods are the curries which are not all that healthy due to the coconut milk, etc. I will aim for the healthy options and drink lots of water.

Morning ice time and planning my day. Tammy you are sooo inspiring....only wish I liked salmon, lol, because that did sound like an appealing change (I eat a lot of chicken). Fish for me usually needs to be batter fried cod, sigh. Not quite on my planned foods.

Had a bit of a setback night before last woke 2:00 a.m. in a lot of pain. Wondering what I had done to twist knee during the night etc. Figured it out yesterday that my compression sleeve was rolling down at the top and caused a blockage so the knee fluids had swelled up and was extremely painful..did not ear it to bed last night. Better again this morning.

Sooo tempting to eat off track when I am laid up like this....boredom and wanting "comfort foods"....but I am staying strong so far. Scale finally went down .6 lb this morning so am feeling rewarded for my willpower!

Hope everyone is enjoying the 3 day weekend....take care!

Diane - Happy to hear your knee is improving

I did fine today even with the typical challenges I face every Sunday at church coffee hour. Chicken for supper tonight again. Will probably have enough for tomorrow too....I hope!

Still icing and that is what I am doing now...so "multitasking " as my kids tell me, lol. The knee is much better...I ran a couple errands and got groceries so with my compression sleeve I was able to get around OK. It is paining a bit so I took another Aleve and with the ice that should be good. I read up on everything to do with this and RICE is the best but if you are athletic they say to start moving and doing intense rehab after 48 hours or when initial pain is gone. I am NOT athlete so my thought was to go back to normal walking activities for a few days and then go try the gym equipment later this week. I will keep the compression sleeve on it for all things!

Diet has been mostly on track...ate off diet at Viking game but weight is still 168.8 today so I feel OK about where I am heading. Hate these plateaus but all part of the process and beats gaining for sure!

Have a great weekend all!!

Checking in earlier than usual today because I am not sure if I will have time to get back to my computer later in the day. Happy to report one NSV and even one SV! My NSV is I made cinnamon buns for DS today...and I totally resisted even taking one bite. That is very unusual for me. But perhaps my motivation came from seeing 2 pounds down when I weighed in this morning. Now to keep this going. I am feeling totally satisfied and have no interest in non-compliant foods at the moment. emoticon

Take care Diane.

So happy to be back on track and back in control again. I was super busy all day today with housework and really kind of over-did it. I am exhausted now, but it is a kind of good exhausted, I guess. Had delicious baked salmon for supper along with some broccoli and a romaine salad. No cravings and I am very satisfied.

Here's to a great weekend for all of us!

Reclining with my leg elevated because I injured my bad knee last night.....guess it could have been worse if it was my good knee then I would be hobbled on both sides, LOL. Do not have a clue what I did wrong....was on light rail tram standing and swaying, then had to climb some very steep stairs and then go down some very steep stairs....then was maneuvering the stadium and, finally, we sat watching the Vikes at preseason game. When I got up to go to restroom I could hardly put weight on leg. After the game it was worse...we left early to avoid most of crowd and found a seat on tram....by time I got home it was pretty bad. Not once did I feel like I twisted it, or did something to it so why the injury? It's in a new place inside knee and likely MCL type of sprain. RICE that's it for me for 48 hours...bummed because I will likely be unable to do any meaningful exercise for a couple weeks again, sigh. This getting older is often a challenge!
