C2D10!!!!
restarting my 10 minute challenge tomorrow I had all intentions of going for a walk on a beach on the north shore but it didn't happen.....so tomorrow I start again.

Nicole - congratulations on trying the fasting/smoothie day, I wouldn't have even tried it, and way to go on your 4lb weight loss!!!!!

Diane - I just love hearing about your farm stories!!! I grew up and still live on Long Island, NY - suburbia and beaches, I did go to college in PA and lived in a rural town and loved it - there were farms everywhere.

Chris - good luck this weekend getting your stuff from the house.

Val - good luck to you and your mom in law starting up on Saturday

Today I took off from work - my husband had an appointment with the GI doctor this morning all went well he is scheduled for a colonoscopy on Oct. 2nd. I will breathe a sigh of relief once that is over and we know what we are dealing with. Stayed compliant all day which I am very happy with there were a few times when I was tempted and I just got through it, it was a carb day so I had the special treat of oatmeal in my smoothie and some corn added to my taco salad I had for lunch. Dinner tonight I just was not in the mood for any veggies and I wasn't that hungry so I had some chicken breast.

Well off to watch some TV and relax the rest of the day.

Diane – Woo hoo for you….great going with that loss….and more losses to come I am sure!

Nicole – Well, at least now you know…you gave the transitional fast day a try….you won’t have to wonder if it is for you or not….Frankly I don’t think it would be for me either….I am just not a smoothie lover to begin with…So I think I won’t try the fast day at all.

Chris – I will be thinking of you tomorrow as I know it will be difficult for you. I hope things go smoothly and you are able to get the things you want.

Kathy – Good luck getting your kiddos ready to go back to school. Most schools in this area go back on Monday the 25th, which I think is very early, but I am told that in the Midwest and South, some schools go back even earlier.

I am still doing great, happy, not hungry, and feeling a little more energy. Even though we don’t count calories, I just about always track my food on SP nutrition tracker…guess it is a carryover habit from my pre-17DD days. My calories for today are quite low and I am not hungry for anything else. I will probably have a yogurt later tonight, but even that won’t do much for my low calorie count. I easily made my challenge today, so another reason to be happy. I grocery shopped today too and am very well stocked with C1 compliant foods, including Breakstone Live Active cottage cheese in the 4 packs of individual ½ cup servings. Each 4 pack cost $2.69 which I think is outrageous for 2 cups of cottage cheese, but this is the only configuration I can find for the Live Active cottage cheese. Well that’s about it from here for now. Hope everyone’s weekend is off to a good start.

GNicole....you tried and fasting/smoothies just wasn't for you....but you are succeeding on doing the normal17dd so I think that is all that counts. I KNOW I could never do a fast of any type. I hate not eating on days I need blood tests, etc...LOL (at myself)!

No one here is laughing for sure!!! emoticon

Gnicole - I've been thinking about you all day! I would never laugh at you about that fasting day. I think I made it through the day, but it was definitely not pretty! There may have been some food mirages in there, and I remember every single commercial seemed to be for fast food or pizza, which did NOT help! emoticon job on the 4 pounds for Round 3 C1!

I don't have much time to post. Had to start my 10 min challenge over again today! emoticon No Zumba class yesterday, so I ended up shopping with my daughter and granddaughter. By the time I got home, it was late and I was exhausted from the long day, so of course, I didn't exercise. But started up again today with emoticon 25 minutes at lunch, including 8 sets of stairs and stretching. Going to the house tomorrow to pack up a few more of my belongings, with my husband there. It's going to be very emotional, I am sure. It will be nice to have more of my kitchen stuff though, so I can start cooking again. That's my plan for next week.

Have a great weekend!

Try not to laugh but I was starving to death and ate lunch at about 1pm. I had the morning and mid day smoothies but I could tell that I was getting overly hungry and I was going to start making some very bad choices.
So, I ate lunch.
I guess the option just wasn't the right choice for me. I was feeling very groggy/foggy and hungry and I did quite see any food mirages like they do in the cartoons, but I was close.
I did finish my 3rd round with -4lbs on C1. So I guess I'll take it! And, I'm looking forward to alternative meats and the addition of oatmeal in C2.
Hope you all have a great weekend!

Kathy and Tammy....thanks for your supportive comments to my "farm girl" history....I will add until age 12....we had no running water, no TV, and I actually went to a one room school house with 3 total in my grade level. Definitely was a wonderful beginning.....my closest aged sister and I have sooo many great shared memories.....I feel my grandkids are so often occupied with all todays technology they will not have as many of those lasting types of experiences/memories when they get my age. My age is showing!

emoticon morning weigh-in: 153.8!!! Inching closer to my mini goal of 150 and under...on my way to 145 by October! Guess it helped to use DH's treadmill for 30 min yesterday instead of normal power walk.....it was close to 100 heat index and the treadmill was heart racing, sweaty workout....I rocked out to my Pandora music...WooHoo.

emoticon Wishing everyone a great weekend on the 17dd!

D3 Exercise challenge!!!
So excited to see the positive energy on the boards.

Wow where to start...well lets start with me. I had a homemade fajita salad for dinner and it was so good!!! I can't wait to have it tomorrow with my small potato for lunch. I took tomorrow off from work - my kids go back to school right after Labor day and we need to get ourselves organized and ready looking forward to a three day weekend.

Meremom - wow so close to C3- don't get frustrated by the scale I know a lot of people weigh daily on this team and if it works then go for it but we have to realize that there are so many factors that effect our weight, salt, humidity, hormones and countless other factors. I try to weigh in once or twice a week if I weigh more than that I make myself crazy.

Diane - definitely not TMI - I get the sugar thing 100% I can't have any because one bite sends me into total sugaraholic cravings. Thanks for sharing your stories of growing up on a farm - I know you are going to succeed on the diet.

Paula - so glad you are feeling great inside and out!! It is such a good clean feeling. I did enjoy my wine last night and I slept like a baby afterwards.

Val - how did that sauerkraut come out?

Keep posting everyone and TGIF tomorrow!!!!!

C1D4, still trucking right along and loving it!

Val – So sorry for the confusion. A while back I posted that my real name is Paula. When I joined Spark People I was advised by a co-worker to not use my real name. She was much more internet savvy than I am (or will ever be) so I took her advice. I joined SP with the user name Tammyand. Some time ago on this thread we were posting our names and where we live and that is when I posted my real name. I don’t want to change my user name as I have been at SP a while and it would be even more confusing if I did change it I think. You can call me Tammy or Paula….I answer to either one!

Diane – Absolutely not TMI. I think our sharing our personal stories and weight loss journeys is very helpful and interesting. We are all different yet have many of the same struggles. I just love coming to this thread and being able to share and learn from everyone else. I get frustrated with some folks on another team who like to put down the word “diet” or “eating plan” or whatever as if it is a dirty word. Yes we are eating to get healthy, but for me, at least, to do so, I need a plan, and the plan that works for me is the 17DD. I truly need the structure of this diet and need to avoid the processed foods. I am much like you in terms of having to watch the carbs on C2. I think this time around I will stick with oatmeal or corn as much as I can as these two natural carbs do not seem to trigger my cravings the way other starches do. The key for me with the natural starches is portion control. It’s easy for me to overeat whatever natural starch I choose.

Kathy – The no meat on Wednesday and Friday really is second nature to me. I often think about how I don’t think to stray from whatever eating practice my church follows (unless I am not in control such as when visiting someone else’s home, etc… in that case we eat whatever is prepared). I tell myself I need to be that faithful when faced with noncompliant foods while on this diet. I hear you about the glass of wine….I like your idea of a small glass of wine per cycle. I might just do the same.

I am happy beyond words over how good I feel now that I have been fully compliant into my 4th day. I think I have a bit more energy too. Tonight for dinner I am having the chicken leftover from Tuesday. Last night I had baked striper (caught and quick frozen by a friend from church) along with roasted asparagus. Both we were yummy and satisfying.

Feeling a little frustrated because daily weigh ins have been all over the place this week. I step on the scale first thing every morning and I weigh myself three times in a row to make sure the scale is reading correctly. All week my first try will be a pound or more less than the follow-ups. I'm going to try getting a new battery and seeing if there is a way to reset it. I feel slightly smaller than when I started and even my daughter said my belly seem smaller.

I need to go back and read the chapter for cycle three so I can plan what I'm eating next week. This time of the year is a good time to be on the 17DD because of all the fresh veggies available. Friends and neighbors are keeping me supplied with homegrown tomatoes, squash, peppers and cucumbers.

Tammy....I can relate to being a "night eater"....for that matter also an all day snacker (always hungry for something) when not on this diet. Years ago, before age 35, I never had to worry about weight. I grew up on a farm eating non-processed foods......longed for store-bought bread as a kid......ate very big, filling farm meals. My mom did not make desserts very often and I never had any urge to eat sweets (never appealed to me) and never snacked between meals and no bedtime treats etc.

I carried these habits into early adulthood.....and seldom ate out. I don't know what happened except a new job where part of the routine was a morning coffee break and free cookies/donuts always in the break room. Until then, I had never even liked coffee.....but I started drinking coffee and had sweets with co-workers to be social. After 5 yrs of doing that morning sweet with coffee.....my weight was going up for the first time in my life and I was hungry all the time! I started taking exercise classes, walking in evenings....tried everything and still kept slowly gaining. Over a ten+ year period I put on an extra 25-30 lbs.

At age 49 I decided "my gift to myself" for my 50th B-Day was going to be getting back to 125 and I worked my butt off exercising and dieted drinking Slimfast instead of real meals and did it. Having lost it by a very artificial way to eat.... I went off the shakes and back to regular food and my former bad eating habits....I gained it all back and more by age 60. I had tried everything under the sun during those years to not gain but I had no willpower and no 17dd food plan. I blame much of my lack of willpower on my sugar/starch/carb addiction. Having thought about all this over the years, I think those 5 yrs of morning sweets changed my metabolism and turned on my sweet tooth.

The only time I feel in complete control of my eating is when I am C1 compliant. I have to be really careful adding carbs in C2-C3. This time around doing the 17dd I have not completely lost the craving for sweets or potatoes yet. By this time 3 yrs ago I felt I had lost that urge....and I would have said NO to that cupcake I had 2 weeks ago and to the glass of wine the other night, and the flatbread, etc... Makes it tougher and I have to be really careful not to allow anything too sweet (like a smoothy) to be part of my daily routine.....it would send me off to the bakery for the real deal, LOL!

If the above is TMI please skip it......good luck to all of us on this 17dd journey......I am down to 154.6 today.....taking every oz. lost as a win!!

C2D8!!! Carb Day
D2 - 20 minute walk!!!!

Val - Once again I am so happy to see you on the boards!!! You make me smile. Also please share how the sauerkraut came out.

Paul - Wow never knew about the no meat on Wednesday and Friday that is tough. I will never complain about no meat on Fridays during Lent again.

Diane it is true what they said about being able to fit in a smaller size after reaching goal on this diet. I always wore a 6 or 8 at my smallest.. when I reached goal I was wearing 6's and even some 4's. I can't wait to get back to those sizes again.

Today was my carb day and I am sad that it is over, I truly enjoyed my baked potato with chicken, fire roasted peppers, fat free cheddar and fat free sour cream, For dinner tonight I was so hungry did not get home until eight I made one of my staple meals brussel sprouts and grilled chicken. Tonight I am treating myself to a small glass of wine I had such a hectic day that I just want to slip it slowly and relax. I usually let myself have at least one glass each cycle.

Have a great night!!!

Tammy, I started on them several years ago but after losing weight was able to reduce the dose and eventually get off them. The past year and a half has been very stressful however and it crept back up. When I am ready I will post what has happened in my life. My blood glucose has jumped up quite a bit as well. I know I can bring it back down again and my doctor seemed confident of this as well. Nice that she is understanding and easy to talk to. emoticon

C1D3 and loving every minute of it!

Val – I have been on bp pills for about 2 years now. I am hoping that as the weight comes off I will be able to get off the pills. I know other women my age who have been successful in getting off the bp meds when they lose a good bit of weight. I will be very interested in your homemade sauerkraut. My grandmother made it but not my mom. I don’t know if I’d know where to start. I am most interested in it because the store bought kraut is so high in sodium, and I am guessing that the homemade will be less salty. Is that corret?

Kathy – I am a night eater EXCEPT when I am on this diet. I just don’t feel hungry at night when I am compliant. That is one of the biggest keys to my success of this plan. Good for you for walking 30 minutes. I am on day 3 of my streak again. Was doing well till I sat so darn much at the picnics on Saturday and Sunday.

Chris – My microwave pressure cooker chicken turned out great. Since we don’t eat meat or poultry on Wednesdays or Fridays (Orthodox Christian practice), I have enough chicken for tomorrow as well. The Hungarian hot peppers my friend gave me infused into the chicken and even into the broccoli for a delicious flavor. The peppers, while hot, were better too and not quite so fiery. I am so happy for you for having your spices back in your possession. I have a ton of spices and use them all. Now you’re really “cooking!”

Diane – Was it your birthday yesterday? If so happy happy birthday. I turn 57 on Monday but have no special plans. DS wanted to take me to dinner, but I asked if we could delay it as my momentum is strong now and Monday is an otherwise busy day for both of us anyway. I know I could eat out and find compliant foods but that blasted sodium in the restaurant food is a killer for me. Can you walk indoors on those horribly hot days? I never walk outdoors for various reasons, including that our neighborhood does not have sidewalks and walking on the street is just not safe. Because of my deformed knee, if I am going to get up any speed when walking I need to hold on to a shopping cart or something. So I usually do my walking at the grocery store, CVS, Kohl’s , etc. On days when I am at home all day (a rarity for sure), I have an exercise machine (called a Cardio Cruiser by Jake) that I do sitting down. You will make your size 8 goal. I’d be thrilled be in a 16 again. Like Chris, I am a 2X (or 22 ish) now. I started out at a 3X (and still wear some of them tho they are very loose now). Now I can wear most 2X and some 1X clothes. When I was in my 20s I was a size 9 (I’m 5’2”) but didn’t stay at that size for very long. My most comfortable size that I could hold on to for a relatively long time was a size 14. While that is still big for my height, that is what I am aiming for for now. If I can go smaller (and with this diet I think I can), all the better!

I am doing so well that I am annoyed at myself for not being more compliant over the past few months. But I am looking forward and feeling great. On this diet I have no cravings as long as I remain compliant. A while back (January 2014) on another thread I asked if anyone ever tried the Pure Protein shakes. Here is the nutritional info on the frosty chocolate flavor. The vanilla crème flavor is similar, only with 110 calories and 4 total carbs. The shakes do not contain aspartame. I like the potassium content especially.
Calories - 120
Total Fat - 1.5
Sat Fat - 0.5
Cholesterol - 15
Sodium - 170
Potassium - 290
Total Carb - 6
Dietary Fiber - 3
Sugars - 1
Protein - 23
Calcium - 70%
Iron - 4%
This seems pretty healthy and compliant to me. Since I am not much of a “smoothie” person, I think I might include one of these shakes every now and then, especially if I get a sweet craving. Any thoughts???

Diane - I never, ever wore size 8 before the 17 Day Diet!!! Maybe in Junior High/High School! The first time I fit into that size I was going around like a crazy woman, telling the sales clerk and everyone in sight! I still sometimes can't believe it. You keep going and you'll get there! Believe me, if I can do it, anyone can! When I first started Sparkpeople, I wore a size 22W!

Chris......size 8's....I would love that again.....my size 12's are very loose but most size 10's are too tight so I am not ready to wear them yet. WTG, Chris!

Up .8 lb from dinner out last night...had one glass of red wine as it was B-Day celebration with my grown kids and DH. Hoping (again) this weight will be gone tomorrow. I have all my meals planned for today and will be C1 compliant all the way!

Tomorrow is supposed to hit near 100 so may not be able to walk emoticon will try to get it in early if possible.....it's MN State Fair this weekend and always a hot spell for that it seems...LOL!

Some of you who knew me from before, know that I like to experiment with foods. In the past I have made my own fresh mozzarella cheese, yogurt, etc. So today I am making a pint of sauerkraut. Starting small because I want to see how it does before making more. Sounds pretty simple so we will see. LOL! Grandma did it in a big crock, Dad did it using the same crock. emoticon (we will say this is cabbage lol) I'll let you know in a few days how well it is working. As small as this amount is, it should only take 3 days to ferment. Hoping to have yummy probiotics! Now to get busy on making yogurt again!

Kathy and Paula - thanks for the support and kind words! I learned from the best... my mom is an amazing woman! Don't know what I would do without her right now!

Kathy - I'm right there with you. I have to start over today with 10 minute challenge. I didn't get to walk yesterday at lunch, cause they had pizza for all the employees at work, and I indulged a little, since I had been so good for so long. Well, that kind of backfired, because I felt miserable all afternoon after that. Not sure if the pizza was sitting out too long, or if it was just too many carbs for my system to handle. Although I have heard a couple of my coworkers complaining about stomach issues as well, so who knows. I had planned to fix dinner for my mom and me when I got home from work, and just didn't feel well enough to do that. So I took it easy last night when I got home. Feeling a little better today. Planning to walk at lunch. Scale is showing my indulgence as well. UGH!

Val - definitely good to have a buddy! I had been doing the 17DD for a few months when my daughter joined me, and it was so much easier for both of us to stay compliant! You are going to do great!

Paula - I love my green tea. I usually have mine over ice, with some lemon and truvia added. I sip on that most of the morning, and then will have another in the afternoon. That chicken and veggies sound yummy! Please let us know how that turns out. I am trying to meet with my husband over the weekend to get some more of my kitchen things so I can cook more. When we met last Friday, he brought me my Pampered Chef oven roaster and my SPICES!!! I was so happy to get those back. Now I can't wait to make some chicken breasts in the microwave. I have been buying pre-cooked chicken breast, which is loaded with sodium! Plus, now I can make my turkey chili again. emoticon

Diane - I weigh myself every morning as well, in my bday suit, before I have eaten anything. I am trying to get into weighing weekly, but with all my heart/autoimmune issues, I like to make sure that I don't have a sudden increase due to fluid retention. So I'll probably just keep weighing daily. As women, our weight fluctuates for so many reasons, and it is hard not to get down when you see any increase, but I try to stay positive and look at other non-scale victories. Like the fact that my size 8's are starting to fit more loosely now. And that I have more energy to go up and down stairs (which I have to do at my mom's). I have to carry my oldest dog down stairs at least 2 or 3 times every day, as she can't get down by herself. She weighs about 30 pounds, and before the 17DD, there is no way I'd be able to do that!

GNicole - Good luck on Friday! Let us know how that goes! Even though it wasn't for me, I really did like those smoothies. They were quite tasty. One thing that I picked up from the new edition was the green tea matcha powder. I add a teaspoon of that each morning to my smoothie, and it gives it great flavor and I get one serving of green tea in that way as well! I bought mine on Amazon, cause I don't have too many places to get it where I live. We do have a Whole Foods, but I just haven't made it over there in a while, and it was much easier to just order it on Amazon and get it shipped to me. That bag lasts me about 6 months or so.

Well, I am trying to have a low carb day today after yesterday! Hoping that will make me feel better as well. I had my morning smoothie, with kale/spinach/chard blend, greek yogurt, almond milk, berries, protein powder, green tea and ground flax seed. For lunch it's tuna and salad with fat free ranch dressing, and I am hoping to make that dinner of salmon, cucumber salad and roasted carrots for dinner, that I was going to make yesterday. Depends on this afternoon's weather.

Happy Hump Day!

Talked to my Mom-in-law today and we set this Saturday as our C1 start day. The first time we did this we did it together and would call and check in every day and did really well. Hoping we can both work this again!
Seen my doctor today for a general exam. I had to be started back on my blood pressure meds, not surprising after the year we have had.

Gnicolecan – I have not tried the transitional fast day. I do have the Breakthrough book and might consider doing it, but since I am just C1D2 at the moment, I am not sure if I will or not.

Chris – Woo hoo as your goal is so close!!! You are just amazing in so many ways. I enjoyed re-reading Simmie’s review of the new book. I am slowly reading through it. I decided to read it along the way as I restart at C1, just as a kind of reinforcement. I will probably have to read it a few times in order to process everything and to try to compare it to the original edition.

Kathy – We all cave now and then, and as you said, it was bound to happen. Switching your carb day is very wise in my opinion. Glad it wasn’t sweets that caused you to cave.

Diane – Like you I usually weigh in my bday suit first thing in the morning. It is annoying that the scales are not completely reliable, but I keep telling myself that with my eyes on the big picture the losses eventually are real. (But I am not going to weigh every day right now…at least I don’t think I am.)

C1D2 for me and doing great. Yesterday was a very easy day for me, all charged up and grooving to be back on C1. I haven’t weighed but already feel lighter. Felt good to be enjoying my green tea again, as that is something I got away from over time…my own fault too because I just didn’t take the time for me. I make my green tea time a kind of ritual, relaxing and enjoying every sip. Dinner is already prepared….I got a new microwave pressure cooker (from QVC) which I just adore. I made chicken breasts with fat free low sodium chicken broth and added broccoli and hot peppers from my friend’s garden. I have already tasted the broccoli and hot peppers (and whew are they ever hot)….delicious. I used yesterday’s leftover chicken for lunch so I didn’t taste the today’s chicken yet, but it all smells delightful.

GNicole.....wishing you good luck with the "fasting"....I could never do it and with my heart issues I won't ever try it...LOL. If I was taller 155 would be my goal, too.....but, I am only 5'4" and smaller boned so 155 doesn't look good on me. In my younger days I weighed in 120's and 3yrs ago I felt great at 135 after doing 17dd to get there....today at age 67 my goal is 140-145. Believe it is realistic and should be doable eventually for me. Hoping that puts me back into my size 10's sitting in a box right now!

Just tried to calibrate my scale and weigh a bag of flour to check accuracy (someone suggested I try that).....did not register it at all.....need something heavier I guess!

Strange but after doing that I stepped on the scale and even after eating and drinking coffee all morning and all my clothes on I weighed in at 154 on same scale I weighed 155 on earlier.....and this is my new scale which always has shown me heavier than my old one did. Obviously, I am not recording that weight....I weigh same time in my B-Day suit every a.m. When I get up and 155 is that number today.

Will be interesting to see what I weigh tomorrow a.m.....?

For those of you interested in the 17DD Breakthrough Edition - below is a link to what's new. The blog starts about halfway down the page. Simmie Sinow is the author of this blog, and has a great Facebook page, and lots of great recipes and advice. She was a member of this team at one time, and would check in from time to time, but I haven't seen her on here for a while. I highly recommend that you read her blog entry before buying the new book. If you have already bought the book, you should still read this, as there are many discrepancies, especially in the recipes and what is allowed and not allowed.

I bought the Breakthrough edition shortly after it came out, and was not impressed. The original book helped me to lose 40 pounds, but I was stuck and wanted to lose about 7 more pounds, and thought that this might help me over that plateau. But it seemed more of a gimmick than anything, and you know, I realized that the old way was working, it was just that I wasn't sticking to it like I had been.

I hope that this helps!

C2D6!!!!
D5 Exercise challenge

Well today I caved and cheated while cooking dinner - the good news is I didn't cave on anything sweet which is always a recipe for disaster I took a handful of potato chips, ate 3 french fries and had a handful of cashews. I feel like I just needed it 23 days of no cheating except for one small piece of pretzel it was bound to happen. So tomorrow I will do a no carb day since today was supposed to be carb-less and well that didn't happen, Tomorrow is another day and I am going at it full gusto!!!!

So first of all Chris!!! You inspire me, you are very strong and you must be an amazing mom because your daughters seem AWESOME!!!

Diane ..way to go with the scale!!!

Tammy - good luck on C1 D1!!!

Val - We all mess up - just like I did tonight but I am sure you made many good decisions also.
Think about all the right choices you made not just the wrong choices,

Nicole - I am interested in the fasting days on the new plan.

Well I am off to be craving a sweet and I have not had sugar of any kind in 23 days so I don't want to blow it, Have a great night!!!

D8 10 min challenge - Longest streak so far!! emoticon today for 25 minutes, 8 sets of stairs and stretching.

GNicolecan - Yes, I did the transitional day once... it was definitely not for me! I cannot go that long with that few calories, even for just one day. I was shaky, had no energy, got a headache and was starving all day long. I think I only lost 1 pound, if that, and was so miserable all day that for me, it was NOT worth it. But I have heard other people rave about a "fasting" day, so my advice to you is to try it once and see how it goes for you. Everyone is different.

Last week was very stressful for me. I have done a lot of soul searching and praying, and stressing and praying. I won't go into details, but it boils down to the fact that I met with my husband for the first time in about 2 months, and we had a good long conversation. It was uncomfortable, awkward and extremely difficult, but I was able to forgive him for his affair. That was much more difficult that actually leaving. Not to say that I am taking him back... that is probably not going to happen. But I felt such a sense of relief afterwards.

Then, I got a wonderful surprise on Saturday, as both of my daughters came to my mom's, where I have been staying for the last 2 months. We had a wonderful time, their significant others helped with a few "honey-do" list items, that I just couldn't do by myself, and we went out for dinner. I can't get over how fast those granddaughters of mine are growing. WHEW! It seems like just yesterday when the first was born, and it's already been 3 months.

Anyway, as far as diet goes, I have been doing pretty well. I have been sticking to mostly C3/C4 (maintenance) lately, and after that serious bout of exercising last week, I lost 4 pounds! Only 1.4 from my goal.... man, it's getting so close. I keep getting almost there, and then the scale seems to creep back up. The key to my success is consistent exercise. I really know when I don't do it... the scale doesn't budge! I have got to stick with it, even if it's only 10 minutes of walking my dogs around the yard. That is the only way I am going to get to that ever elusive 160!

Have a great week everyone!

C1D1 Thank goodness!

Well I weighed in today....up 5 pounds! Ugh! I'd like to blame the steroids...but really I know I have just gotten sloppy with my application of our 17 DD principles. So I am ready to do what I know I can do and have done before. When I am compliant I know this diets works for me, especially on C1 for me. I don't anticipate struggling for the first few days because I generally love everything on C1, but well, one never knows for sure. I am hoping to go 12 days without weighing in because Aug 30 is my next known food challenge, and I know if I see a loss on a weigh in day I am more likely to stay compliant at the picnic I will be going to.

Diane - I understand how thankful you are for getting back on track. I love the way my body feels on this diet, especially C1 and even C2.

Hope everyone's week of off to a good start!

Tammy....saw 37 lbs gone on your ticker...that is awesome! You are doing great! C1 here we both come!

emoticon Kathy on the 2lb scale victory!!

emoticon Whew....I feel like I dodged a bullet...this morning I weighed 155 which is .2 lbs lower than last Thurs morning before we headed to the lake! The extra weight was water and sodium related. Just one day on C1 and eating at right times etc and I am back on track. Very thankful!

My plan is to continue on C1 for some extra days.....not ready to go to C2 this Wed...which is just day after tomorrow. After my weekend indulge I need more clean eating days to curb those carb cravings! Going to let my scale and my body tell me when I am ready for C2.

Sundancer – I know exactly what you mean about the joy of 17DD success at our post-menopausal age (I will soon be 57). When I did my first round of C1 (last year) the pounds just melted off. I am restarting on C1 tomorrow after goofing off for far too long now.

Kathy – Yes, we went to see the Reading Phils today (they defeated the Binghamton Mets 1-0). Now they are called the Fightin’ Phils….I think they changed the name this year. I had a good time, mostly socializing and even though I love baseball, I didn’t watch much of the game. Some of the folks who were there I get to see only once or twice a year so I made the most of the time catching up with dear friends. I read the 9 quotes article today too. I thought it was right on. Woo Hoo for you on your 2 pound loss Kathy. Way to go!

Diane – Ah, your escape sounds wonderful! And you know you can get right back on track and will do so. I am so happy that you enjoyed and renewed yourself. I predict the renewed you will really rock when you are back on track!

Val – Sounds like you were a busy beaver this weekend. I am impressed with the work you did with the corn. 139 pints! That is amazing. And I’ll bet you had fun doing this with your friends. To me, these things are what life is all about.

Well, today was a so-so day for me. I struggled at coffee hour at church, first had fruit but then tasted a mushroom cheese quiche (including the crust). I nibbled on compliant and noncompliant foods at home before going to the ballgame. But at the game/picnic I did pretty well…. Chicken…hamburger without the bun, pickles, salad….and then a few chocolate chip cookies…So tomorrow I go back to C1 and am beyond ready. My calendar is clear for the next 12 days, and I think I can get through the picnic I have on the 13th day….So look out world…C1 here I come!

I wasn't on track either this weekend. Friday was Craft Day at church and we had picnic type foods. Then Saturday several of us spent the day at a friend's mini farm picking corn, shucking, blanching , cooling and bagging. emoticon our friends Joy and Skip fed us lunch which included many garden goodies (green beans, beets, peppers, tomatoes, etc) but also sloppy joes. I stuck mainy to veggies and fruit but did have some sloppy Joe. Today was better. I need to stock up tomorrow.
In case anyone was wondering.....we bagged 139 pints of corn for the freezer, and yes....Joy sends some home with us for all the work we put in.

I have to confess a whole 3 days OFF the diet!
Received an unexpected invite to cabin up north so we just went spur of moment......besides fishing and water biking....it seemed all we did was eat including carbs and non 17dd stuff and drank some red wine every evening to boot! Dinner was at almost 10:00 p.m. Saturday night....yikes!

I am up 1.2 lbs this morning. I had no control over what was served or what was even available to eat. I very quickly just went with the flow....had a wonderful time, and committed to getting back on track this a.m. Hoping most of what I gained is water from all the high sodium and wine bloat I get whenever I indulge! Will check back here in a few days and let everyone know how that theory holds up....LOL.

As much as I do not like the scale setback this trip was a wonderful renewal of my spirit. We all have continuing "life" issues and there has been a lot of that going on for me lately.....this was such a complete escape....wonderful! No Internet and at some point my cell phone died and I had no charger....yeah!

Hope everyone had a great 3 days while I was "off the grid" and can report better weight results than my above "confession"!

C2D5!!!!! Carb day!!!!
D6 -10 minute challenge

Good morning all and happy Sunday!!! It is raining here in NY this morning but is supposed to be beautiful later in the day, Hoping to get down to the beach and take a walk on the boardwalk. emoticon

Good Luck Paula you may not be 100% compliant but you are making much better choices. This diet is for life and lets face it life isn't compliant so make the best choices you can!!! Are you seeing the Reading Phillies today? We went to a few of their games when visiting friends from college!!! emoticon

Sundancer...what a great attitude!!!!! Way to lose 13lbs!!!!!!
Keep up that positive energy!!! emoticon

Today was my day to face the scale and with that I needed to share this quote for all my friends "You are so much more than the number you see on the scale." The scale can't tell you how you good you feel. The scale can't tell you how much you're loved. The scale can't tell you how much you should love yourself. It can't even tell you how strong you are. All it does is measure the effect of gravity on your body. That's it! -This was from an article on the start page with 9 positive quotes. I feel great and have more energy and that is what is the most important. Remember I told you I was up a pound for no apparent reason I did not let that get me down because I knew I was sticking to plan. This week I am down that pound and one more and although I would like to see my ticker move more than one pound I know I am doing the best I can.

Good Morning,
I am on Day 11 of 17D.
Feeling great.
Prior to starting the 17D I was 5 weeks into a lifestyle change.
So that coupled with the 17D I have lost a total of 13 pounds in 6 weeks and 2 days.
Which for me at age 55 and post menopausal is a huge feat!
Prior to, the scale was only going up, up, up!
I am excited about finishing out the last 7 days with gusto!
Have a beautiful day!

Just got back from a family picnic. Really enjoyed visiting with family from both near and far. Remarkably was able to stay pretty compliant. There was so much food, some homemade and some catered, that I had plenty of healthy choices. There was an enormous spread of desserts, but nothing there tempted me. Where I strayed however was having a two drinks and a some potato chips (I think I was craving salt). So overall, not a bad day. Going to a minor league baseball game tomorrow with a group of church friends. Our tickets include the "picnic buffet," which I have been to before. It will be a little more challenging to stay compliant but I know I will make the best choices I can. I plan to go back to C1 on Monday. I've been taking it easy too long. I desperately need the structure of C1, my favorite cycle.

Happy Sunday to everyone!

D6 - 10 minute challenge

Hi everyone and happy weekend!!! I read this article on the start page about storing your fruits and veggies which we should all have plenty of it is definitely worth checking out.

Yesterday I didn't have time to check in but it was a carb day which I thoroughly enjoyed. The kids had a pasta party for their swim team and I was able to skip the pasta dishes and deserts having had my 2 carbs really helped with my resistance muscles.

Well off to get dinner started today was day one of championships for swimming and we are all exhausted and hungry. Tomorrow I face the scale for my weekly weigh in hoping to see some movement I try to step on scale once or twice a week, if I do it more it makes me crazy!!!

Checking in quickly before bed. Went to church this evening and had a meatless pot luck supper afterwards. Got home later than I'd planned. I managed to make healthy choices including baked salmon, steamed shrimp, green beans, and more. Very few desserts tonight which was fine with me....didn't miss them at all.

Elsa - I have the new book but haven't read through it very much. One thing that I know is different in the Breakthrough edition is the optional transitional fast day when you have smoothies for a day between the cycles. I hope to get some time to really read the new edition soon.

Kathy - Your dinner sounds yummy. I added ff feta to my shopping list for this week.

Val - Welcome back. Your posts are always great.

Diane - Sweets trigger me too. I find they are just not worth it in the long run. I think too that the longer I am on this diet, the less attractive those non-compliant foods are.

Chris - Thoughts and hugs from me to you! Good luck with all you have on your plate right now.

D5 - 10 minute challenge!!! Stairs and walking!!!!
First of all emoticon Val!!!! We missed you. For those that don't know Val she is the perfect combination on 17 day diet knowledge and laughter!!!!

Diane - Thanks for the shout out!!!! I hear you on the one cupcake thing I have learned the hard way when it comes to sweets I am an all or nothing kind of girl. I have learned to stick to the savory snacks on C3 because they don't trigger me.

Elsa, I have not read the new book, the original edition worked so well for me that I figured why change it. I do know he offers more options on the healthy fats and suggest smoothies.

So today I didn't have any food challenges....thank goodness...my resistance muscles are sore from the work out yesterday!! LOL I did however add a second veggie to my smoothie to keep my belly fuller longer , I had my usual salad with grilled chicken for lunch and for dinner I took advantage of the red meat option I had a lean burger smothered in spinach, grilled tomatoes and sprinkled with fat free feta. So good.

Have a great night team!!!!

Hello everyone. I'm another one of those who has been here before! Starting out anew after a really rough couple of years. A couple years ago I lost 27 pounds on my first round through. I have forgiven myself and know I will never be "perfect" on following this plan but I want to be better at it. emoticon

You are so right nothing tastes as good as being at goal weight will feel!

C2D1!!!!!!!
D4 exercise challenge - I took the steps every time I needed to use the bathroom!!!!

Well today was a challenge of a day so much that I can't wait to get to bed to put it behind me. This morning being the end of the cycle I stepped on the scale and gained 1 whole pound grrrrrrr!!! There is no reason for it I have been 100% compliant so I had a self talk and figured my body needed to hold on to some extra water it is just visiting weight and will be gone in a day or two. So I got ready for work and walked into food extravaganza!!! I knew they were celebrating June and August birthdays in my department and was not tempted since I was able to have two carbs today what I didn't expect is the amount of food and it continued all day long - started with breakfast, bagels, cake, cookies and muffins ugghhh but I made it I drank my smoothie and wasn't tempted but then lunch time came and they had arroz con pollo and pulled pork so I ate my baked potato and got through it but then the last and hardest challenge was ICE CREAM at 3:00 - my normal 3:00 snack of carrots was a tough replacement for ice cream with all the fixings but I did it I got through it ughhhhh!!!! So guess what tonight I am hungry not real hunger the craving something hunger so I will be up in bed early.

So for my menu to help me get through this day...breakfast normal smoothies but I made it with cabbage and spinach to hold me longer and for lunch a baked potato ( kind of big ) so I counted it as my 2 carbs with leftover fajita I made last night, fat free cheddar and fat free sour cream YUMMY!!! Dinner was a little boring brussel sprouts and grilled chicken,.

Tomorrow is another day and I will face it like I faced today just keep telling myself....Nothing taste as good as Skinny feels!!!!

Have a great night emoticon

Diane – My user name here at SP is Tammyand because way back when I joined SP I was advised by a coworker to not use my real name. But my real name is Paula. I became known here at SP on my teams as Tammy so I just use either name. You nailed it when you said that your family and friends aren’t too interested in the ins and outs of our daily diet struggles. Same holds true for me too. (Though I must say my DS is extremely supportive and does listen and respond when I go on about my diet issues.) Sharing the minutia of our daily diet struggles here on this team helps me tremendously too. I miss it when I don’t have time to post.

Kathy – Yes I am very happy to be past the steroids. They are a necessary evil at times, and it has been a long time since I was on them so I guess that is good. It must be wonderful to have access to the boardwalk as you do. I checked in on Sassy through her spark page. She replied in a very gracious way and told me she has moved on to another diet. Not sure where everyone else is however. People’s lives get busy and so often doing things to help themselves, like checking in, is often the first thing to go.

Chris – I commend you for sparing your FIL the nasty details of what his son did. At your FIL’s age, he doesn’t need to be troubled with such news. I am sure he thinks the world of you and that is why he wants to intervene in the hope of saving your marriage. And hooray for not letting the phone call drive you to noncompliance. I agree with Kathy….vent away here. This is a very safe place to express ourselves. By the way, next time I am at Crackerbarrel I will look into replacing hash browns with sliced tomatoes. Great tip. Thanks.

I had another great day. I am hoping to undo some of the steroid damage before I weigh in on Monday which is when I am officially starting C1. I followed 17DD C1 principles again today so far but plan to have a small glass of wine tonight and possibly some cheese. I walked today when I shopped at Kohl’s and was disappointed that my steps were not higher, per my spark activity tracker. I wonder if my tracker didn’t register my steps correctly. Oh well I know I walked a long time and a lot of steps so I am happy with that. I feel so much more in control and really haven’t had any cravings.

D3 10 minute challenge - emoticon 30 minutes at lunch today, including 8 flights of stairs and stretching afterwards.

Having a much better day today. Got an email from my husband yesterday explaining the situation with his dad, and that he is very confused and upset by the divorce (understandably), but because I am the one who moved out, he thinks I am the one to blame, and no matter how much my husband says that it is his fault, his dad won't understand. That makes me feel a little better. It's amazing how many lives have been destroyed because of one selfish man's actions. I can't wait for this to be over and done with so I can move on with my life. Unfortunately, my court date isn't even until September 23rd! And it is most probably going to be contested, so let the fun times begin. emoticon

I am just thankful for my family and friends, including my Sparkfriends! I am also thankful that I found the 17 day diet when I did, because it is so much easier now to turn down my old habits and continue on with my new ones through all this stress and heartache. Of course, 2 new granddaughters helps a lot too!!! God has given me these two precious angels to share my life with and I thank Him each and every day for them!

Have a wonderful evening my friends!

OK....did I miss something (Dah/obviously) on Tammy vs Paula?
I once lived next to someone who went by 2names depending on which person she was that moment.....and, I am hoping that is not the reason I am confused here? Regardless......Tammy/Paula sooo glad you are off the prednisone! You were very strong and really managed well while taking that terrible (sometimes necessary) drug! Guess we have to be thankful it is available to us.....as I know it can be a miracle when you need it.

Kathy and Chris.....you, too, are both doing sooo well with the 17dd.... in spite of added pain and/or stresses in your lives. WTG!

Chris....that baked potato with chicken taco topping sounds so tasty.....something like the old "One Potato Two Potato" places in mall. I used to eat there when shopping.....but all of them went out of business after the fall of high carb eating! I used to believe (what we were told) that the more carbs you ate the less you would gain because you just burned off these calories.....it was meat that made you gain....LOL!

Thanks again each of you for your comments but have to say I am just as motivated and encouraged by all three of you (and others who post here doing the 17dd)! Wow....everyone is such an inspiration! Hope we see more SP friends joining in this discussion.....it is a big factor in 17dd success for me.

Being a motivator is a good reason to post here daily. It really helps each of us to know that we ALL have struggles in living "life" and yet we can remain strong, we can falter and get back up, we can celebrate not only our victories along the way but those of others.....posting and reading is all part of this 17dd support network.
Trust me, my family and friends here in MN do not want to hear my daily "feelings" about my progress on 17dd......unless, like 3 yrs ago the short time my DD was doing it with me, LOL. She lost her goal of 10 before end of C1 while it took me 3 months to lose my 35 lbs....good for her and she is till using the concepts of the diet to stay in her target weight zone.

Have a great day everyone....stay strong!!
PS....(Weight holding at same lower number....yes!)

D3 Exercise challenge emoticon to the beach and on the boardwalk at lunch!!!

I posted last night and it isn't here.... hate it when that happens ...it was a long one...oh well!!!

Chris feel free to vent here anytime, We are here for you!!! I am so proud of you angry exercising instead of hitting the vending machine.
emoticon
Paula - So glad you can say goodbye to the steroids!!! emoticon
Diane- You are doing great.
emoticon

Where are all of our other friends? emoticon Posting on the check in is one of the most important steps in staying compliant!

Today I ate the usual for breakfast and lunch but I did change up my fat free raspberry vinaigrette for a fat free sesame ginger..yum!!!! For dinner I had another OMG meal..I sautéed baby portabella mushrooms, fire roasted peppers and onions I added grilled chicken and taco seasoning I served it over a bed of lettuce, topped it off with fat free cheddar and fat free sour cream. Best dinner I ever had on C1 besides my absolute favorite Salmon over salad. I had some leftover so for my first day of C2 tomorrow I am having a baked potato topped with the mexican treat. I am having a 1 large potato instead of two carbs. I can't wait... I have been craving carbs all day because my body is saying it's time 17 days is enough.

On another subject I read an article today on the start page about 60 second things you can do for yourself through out the day, like listening to music, enjoying a big glass of water, stepping outside for some vitamin D, if you get a chance read it, We all need to pamper ourselves and time is always limited so 60 seconds may work for you,

Well I am off to watch a movie with my son, my daughter is sleeping over her friends house and although my son will NEVER admit it he misses her.

Diane - YOU ROCK!!!

Tammy - you must feel so good to be off those steroids! I'll be on them for at least 2 more months, as I don't go back to the rheumatologist until September 19th, and then he'll have to wean me off of the 5 mg slowly. YUCK! I love tomatoes for breakfast. One of my favorite meals at Cracker Barrel has egg whites and sliced tomatoes instead of hashbrowns. Nothing weird there for me!!

D2 10 min challenge - I emoticon for 25 minutes today, including 8 flights of stairs. I was kind of upset and angry about a phone call I had received from my father-in-law, so exercising really helped me to release my anger and stress and I felt a lot better after. He was basically trying to bribe me into not divorcing his son, and told me how disappointed he would be with me if I followed through with the divorce. He's 87 years old, and I didn't have the heart to tell him the truth, nor did I feel it was my place to do so. My husband says that he has talked to him and told him that we were living apart and that things were up in the air and that he had made "mistakes" but of course didn't tell him the whole truth. Sorry to keep venting my marital frustrations here, but I don't have too many places to be able to do so. Anyway, it was not the phone call I was expecting when I saw his number pop up on my phone. "Angry" exercise definitely burns more calories than regular! LOL The "old" me would have gone back to the vending machine and gotten a bag of chips and a candy bar and eaten through my frustration and hurt, so exercising instead is a great improvement for me.

My afternoon should be much better, I get to see one of my granddaughters! That always brightens my day!

Have a great afternoon!

Diane - Your enthusiasm is contagious! I feel great each and every time I see your posts. I am so happy for your continued successes. I will be thinking of you on Oct. 11. I will remember the wedding date because that is the day I am going with some friends for a day trip. Hope you will post some wedding photos after the big day.

Chris - Glad you are getting emails again. I cannot for the life of me figure out how that box gets checked as I almost never even go into my preferences so it is not getting bumped/checked inadvertently. But I have learned that if my sp emails stop....sure enough the box has been mysteriously checked again.

I did pretty well yesterday but not perfect. No more steroids as of today, and I am doing fine again today. I am thawing out fish for dinner tonight and planning on an egg white omelet for lunch with lots of veggies added. I was craving tomatoes so I had some with my breakfast this morning. Weird, but it satisfied me.

Here's to a wonderful Tuesday for everyone! emoticon

Thanks everyone for all your encouraging words! Still thinking about that cupcake...LOL. Also, discovered some new Dannon Light Greek Cherry/Cocolate yogurt that is yummy! 80 calories! I feel like I am eating a real dessert.

Down again! -.6 lb to 155.2 !!
I am pumped and feel "rewarded" this second C1 cycle......finally seeing small losses like this every few day, YES! In some ways I feel I have been on this 17dd forever without very many scale downward rewards.....I am half way into this cycle and already wondering/worrying what will happen heading back into C2 and then C3? Everything came to a screaming halt loss wise the first rounds of those. Will rev up my exercise as much as I am able to maximize losses these last 8 days of C1.

PS...The wedding is Oct 11th. Hoping and working hard to reach as close to my goal before then as possible.
Have a great day all!!

Kathy – Thanks for sharing your menu. I would not have thought of replacing the mashed potatoes with the cabbage. I LOVE cabbage so I am sure it was delicious. I will have to try that sometime soon.

Diane – I think you did great at the shower…You will rock as mother of the groom! When is the wedding???

Chris – Did you check your preferences (at the bottom of the email tab) where it says “never email me again” to see if somehow that box mysteriously got checked? I know I have never checked that box, yet sometimes it seems to get checked all by itself. And that box seems to override all other settings. If checked, just uncheck it and then save your changes. Thanks for the encouragement Chris about the steroids. Today is my last day and hope to be off of them for a long time. I am already having skin flares just by being on the reduced steroid dose but I will deal with that for now. I am on my antibiotic for a few more days.

While I am not officially doing C1 till next week, I had an excellent very much C1 day today. As I mentioned to Chris above, today is my last day of steroids and I am already feeling much more like myself (of course that includes achy joints and skin problems…but also not so hungry). I am hoping to string more of these C1 (ish) days together this week. I have some challenges this weekend (family picnic on Saturday and another picnic on Sunday) but I think there will be enough healthy options for me at both of these events.

I did fine with the challenge today,, but not yesterday so I guess am I back to day 1 again.

Let’s go team. I feel the energy from all of you and it is amazing!

D1 - 10 min challenge - emoticon for 20 minutes at lunch today. Weekends are killing me right now, as far as exercise and diet go. Spent 3 1 /2 hours in the car on Saturday, but that trip was well worth it. I got to spend time with both of my darling granddaughters, oh and the rest of my family as well, to celebrate my SIL's and my birthday. Yesterday after church, my mom and I went out for lunch and I was so tired after that, I took a 2 hour nap. Then, I ended up going to bed at 8:30! I have learned to just go to bed (if possible) when I start feeling like that, because it is usually a sign of an autoimmune flare-up. I still feel kind of tired today, but much better than yesterday. I've been trying to make healthy choices when we go out to eat, which has happened a LOT lately, since I've been living with my mom.

Paula - PREDISONE - YUCK!!! I know all too well what that can do. I have been on and off of it for the past 3 years, since I was diagnosed with all this autoimmune stuff. I'm on it again right now. I started out with 20 mg, then 10, then 7.5, and am now back down to 5. I certainly hope that I can get off of it for good this time. I will be fine for days, and then get the munchies for apparently no reason. It does wonders for the inflammation and fatigue though, so I have pretty much learned to live with it. In fact, I lost all this weight while on prednisone, so it can be done! While difficult, you just have to try to stick to 17DD compliant foods whenever those munchies hit. The unlimited portions on C1 and C2, really helped me, and believe me, I took advantage of it! Keep moving forward and you'll do great!

Diane - great job on just having one cupcake! And passing up on wine too! That is emoticon

Kathy (Dietmom) - emoticon Isn't it amazing how the foods that we used to love have absolutely no appeal to us now that we are eating healthier! While we were at the hospital for that week with my daughter, I didn't have any snacks one day, and the cafeteria was closed, so I got an Almond Joy out of the vending machine. I used to LOVE those, and could devour half a bag of minis in no time. I felt so sick after I ate it, that I doubt I would ever have another.

I hate that I am not getting emails when people reply and I am not sure what I need to do! I have checked the box that I want an email sent, I have subscribed to the topic, and I have even gone into my account preferences and checked to receive emails from sparkpeople. It's frustrating, and is part of the reason I haven't posted as much, cause that was always a reminder, and it helped me keep up with everyone better. Does anyone have any ideas on what I need to do to start getting emails again?

Have a great week!

Scale holding at the 155.8 for a second day!

Happy with that number again because yesterday was a bit of blip on my clean eating streak.....couple's shower for our son and his soon to be lovely bride. 1:00 meal was potato salad and sloppy joes. Had a small amount of those plus a cup cake......a "to die for" cupcake!! I had to use all of my willpower not to have a second one. Scrambled eggs for supper and no munchies during the party....and no wine, only water.

It is pouring rain this morning so not sure when of IF I will be power walking? I will dust off DH's treadmill and do it on there if need be but am hoping it clears enough to get out doors because it is a much more enjoyable way to "exercise".

Keep on keep'n on everyone!

C1D15!!!
D1 10 minute challenge - Bike ride and gardening!!!!

So I faced my challenge yesterday and as I guessed no healthy choices, the good news is nothing appealed to me!!!! Not even cheese doodles that have always been a weakness of mine. My friend get together was postponed due to the host not feeling well so I didn't have to worry about that one.

Today I faced the scale for my weekly weigh in and I am glad to see another 2 lbs gone!!! I will weigh in on Wednesday for my end of cycle total, still hoping for double digits.

My menu today was a little different since I actually was home this morning and not running to a ball field, I made an egg white fritatta with baby portabella, tomatoes, fresh spinach and fat free feta yummy!!!! I had my normal smoothie at lunch while sitting at the pool and for dinner I had shepards pie....well I made shepards pie for my family - I used ground turkey instead of lamb or beef, carrots( no peas) and instead of having mashed potatoes on top like my family I kept some separate and added some sautéed shredded cabbage. It was so good and even though I love mashed potatoes I didn't miss them.

Diane!!!! Way to go!!!! you keep that pep in your step!!! I am now in my forties and I feel like it much harder to lose than when I was in my 20's and 30's.

Paula sounds like you have a good plan!!! Go for it!!!

Kathy – Yes, I love my lemon water anyway, and you are right, it does help. Thanks for your support and understanding of those nasty steroid cravings. Only a few more days and I will be off of them completely. Congrats on not weighing ahead of time if that is something that could ultimately work against you. I understand how you would want to weigh yourself when you feel so good…at least that is how I am….but good to not do anything that could trigger eating more.

Diane – Thank you too for your support. I do tend to get a bit down on myself when I cave as I did recently. I know how much better I feel when I am compliant. Congrats on your success Diane. I can just picture you walking with more zip in your step now. Woo Hoo! Your advice to our younger members is right on. The older we get the harder this weight loss things gets. Though I must say that a friend of mine recently lost well over 60 pounds (on WW which never worked for me), and she is about 70 years old.

Well I am fully stocked with fresh veggies of all kinds….some I bought at the store while others have been given to me from friends who have gardens. I am brimming with tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, and peppers (all given to me) along with the asparagus and broccoli I bought at the store. I will be going back to C1 probably next Monday, the 18th. I am not even going to try C1 this week till the steroids are out of my system. For sure this week though I will be eating a lot of healthy veggies and following the principles of our diet. Hope everyone is having a wonderful Sunday.

This round 2of C1 is working for me....WooHoo....down to 155.8 this morning after a 3day plateau. That's -.8 lb......2.4 lbs gone on this cycle!

Going for my walk this morning will be easier and filled with a little extra zip in my step....knowing my plan is working . It certainly has taken a bunch of patience. Because of my faulty old scale, I have no accurate way to know what I weighed at the start of day 1on 17dd. If I take a guess based on the difference of old vs new scale it had to be close to 165+ so today I can count about -10 lbs total gone. Many people lose that during their first round of C1.,..but it has taken me being on track and diligent on the plan for C1, C2, C3 and half of another round of C1 to get that amount off my body! Sigh!

All I can say is I remain committed and I hope the weight will start coming off faster now? Time will tell. I am determined to persevere.

PS.....To all of you younger and more fit team members......please learn from my mistake of letting myself gain back all that lost weight.....it is sooo much harder to start all over and the older you are the tougher it gets. If it were not for this 17dd plan I just wonder how much more I would be weighing now because the weight is also sooo much easier for me to put on!

emoticon Tammy...so sorry about the prednisone cravings!! All you can do is your best and try not to feel guilty when you can't say no.....then, as soon as the effects of the medicine wear off you will be able to be your usual self. That prednisone is wicked stuff! emoticon

D1 - 10 minute challenge!!! Walked 20 minutes!!!

emoticon Chris!!!! Enjoy your day with your granddaughters and your birthday dinner!!!!

Today I woke up and was so tempted to step on the scale to log my weekly weigh in a day early ...but I resisted temptation...I wanted to weigh myself today because I have two challenges today... but that would give me an excuse to eat. Hoping by sticking to my normal weigh in day I will stay on track.

Paula...Steroids get you all the time,,,,congrats on not caving the first few times.
Fresh lemon water works miracle for washing the water retention from steroids right out of you.

Tara- Great job at the church supper....hoping your resistance muscles help to inspire my resistance muscles.

Hope you all enjoy your Saturday!!! emoticon emoticon

Tara (Meremom) – Way to go at the church supper. Sounds like you made wise choices and you saw the pay off this morning at the scale. Also sounds like you have a supportive BF as he asked what you can eat. Lots of good things going on for you. Woo Hoo!!! Hope you enjoy your visit. Have fun!

Diane – Well last night the steroids won. I did fine all day and then “discovered” my DS’s potato chips. Ugh! I did sleep well last night however! ‘nuff said.

Chris – I will be thinking of you as you enjoy those babies today as well as your birthday dinner. Heaven knows you deserve all the joys your granddaughters will bring.

I did fine all day yesterday but caved last night when I “found” my DS’s pototo chips in the cupboard. My DS is a very healthy eater just naturally and of course is all muscle and no fat at all. If I asked him to have no snacks in the house he’d comply because he is just that supportive, but I think that’s not fair or realistic. I have only a few more days on the steroids so I am just moving forward again today. I ran errands later in the day yesterday and got in plenty of extra walking and easily made my 10 minute challenge and more. I have much more energy, and I walk much better when on the steroids. My DS tells me I hardly limp at all (I have a very bad & deformed knee due to an injury when I was about 14 years old). When shopping I stocked up on beautiful broccoli and asparagus, both at good prices. I have another day mostly all to myself and am prepared to make the most of it.

Hope everyone has a fabulous Saturday!!!!

C2D3.....this cycle seems easier than the first even with life throwing challenges at me. Last night I had to attend a dinner at church and knew most likely there would not be a lot of food choices that would be on my plan and I was correct. BBQ brisket & chicken sandwiches, baked beans, macaroni salad and tossed salad. I skipped the bread and just had some of the sauced meats, a little bit of the baked beans and lots of salad. Oh, and I manage to avoid the dessert table. This morning the scale went down again so I am pleased.

Today, I'm driving two hours to visit my BF. He has asked what I can eat so hopefully I won't do too bad while I am there. Drive back home Sunday afternoon and then Monday morning is the kiddo starts school.

I really need to do the 10 minute challenge. It looks like I need to work overtime next week. After working a ten hour day and then coming home to take care of things around the house, the last thing I feel like doing is exercising. Exercising on a consistent basis has always been a challenge for me.

I hope every one is well and has a great weekend.

C1D13!!!! Still haven't started up my 10 minute challenge again!!!!

Happy Friday everyone!!!!! Had another amazing dinner tonight I roasted eggplant and zucchini with a little olive oil and seasoned salt I put them in a bowl and sprinkled with fat free feta so yummy, I ate it with grilled chicken.

Tomorrow I have a challenge...a party at 3:00 not sure what they are cooking, I am on a limited diet and my husband is very limited in what he can eat, not thinking there will be many healthy choices. After that we need to go to a wake for my husband's friend's dad who died suddenly of a heart attack so sad and then later in the evening I am getting together with my high school friends for wine and munchies. I weigh in on Sunday and don't want to ruin an entire week of good eating ughhhh!!! Wish me luck!!! My son has a baseball game a 9AM hoping to get in a brisk walk during the game.

So glad everyone is posting ....Sundancer way to go on that walk!!!! Lori drink up girl friend!!! Paula way to beat those steroids!!!!!

Off to watch HGTV and sleep early tomorrow is a busy day!!!
