Steph - You are not a crazy woman!!! I can relate to what you posted, I usually refer to it as getting sloppy, but it is the same idea as what you said. When I am compliant I do very well. When I get sloppy, it shows. When I first came to this team and this diet, a team member really stressed to me about not starting over...just jumping right back on plan. I found that to be good advice. Yes, my "blips" slowed down my weight loss, but overall I still continued to lose. That team member also explained to me how there is likely never going to be a perfect time for me to start and stay on the diet. The key is learning to follow the plan as closely as possible while life is what it is. There will always be events that can get in our way and derail us. If we let that happen we should just get back on asap...not tomorrow, not Monday....right away....as soon as the next meal.
I am glad you are here and doing well. Hope to share more of this journey with you!

How is everyone else doing??

Hi Guys - on day 9 of cycle 2, round 1 - just checking in here to "process" a little - as I feel like I have stalled.
I am struggling with my tendency to always give up and re-start. I read way back on the newbie advice thread and someone very wisely said that there is no restart, if you stumble you just try and keep going. I think this is really important for me as I want to make this a lifestyle, and my tendency is to jump from one plan to the next.
I have been tracking my calories lately and I actually think this works against me with this diet, because I stop letting my hunger be my guide and get too obsessed. So I am going to stop that. I have been reading back through the diet and realizing I have been getting "cocky" and letting some foods creep in (protein powder, olives, feta cheese, lean beef) that really weren't supposed to be there in the first cycle. So my loss was lower than I wanted. Then in cycle 2 I started "spinning out" lol, adding in nuts, not getting my starches, having the occasional cheat meal, not doing the proper 1,2,1,2 alternations. And so of course a weight stall, then frustration, then the urge to quite and go find the next latest greatest plan and start over.
Well I am not going to do that this time. I am not" starting over on Monday" anymore! I am going right back in to the middle of cycle 2, where I am. I have lost 4 lbs, I am exercising more, my pants fit better, I feel fantastic and so much more energetic. I am not going to let my self-doubt and impatience derail me! I have two cycles of this planned and that is what I am going to complete (dangit!)
OK thanks for basically letting me do a blog post over here lol. Can anyone relate or am I a crazy woman?

Steph

I agree Kathy. I try to check my bank accounts daily or every other day at least, doing so online. Same for my credit card (I really only use one). Checking online is how I discovered the fraudulent check.

I am doing well in terms of compliance with plan. And I have had 2 pretty good days in terms of my health. I think my RA is calming down a bit. I see my rheumatologist on Monday. It will be interesting to hear what he has to say because I have had some rough weeks since I last saw him, but at the moment am doing relatively well. I do think clean eating has a lot to do with this. Also, I am doing as much with organic foods as possible. Still loving the organic home delivery service. And their customer service is outstanding!

Hard to believe the weekend is here already. Hope it is a good one for all!

Kathy - Yes I am indeed fortunate to have this wonderful organic produce delivery service. Besides the high quality of the produce I receive, I am delighted to have it brought right to our door. Glad you had a compliant day....it is such a good feeling, isn't it?

I continue to do well and have not had to deal with any food challenges lately. That helps me stay on track.

Here's to a good week for all!

Boy, Tammy!! Wish we had a delivery service here..... But no such luck...... That would be wonderful, especially because it's so hard for me to carry stuff still!!

I had a really good day........ Not a pain free day by a long shot..... But great compliant- wise.

We have just recovered from a rather significant rain/wind/thunder & lightening event....... Got soaked going to work but came home to absolute beautiful vistas!!

Hope everyone had a great day!!

Hope everyone is having a successful weekend. It was a healthy eating high energy day for me. My pain level today was lower than it has been in quite some time, and I was able to accomplish a lot around the house. We started with a new organic produce delivery service this week. Yesterday was our first delivery. (The previous company we used did not work out well and there customer service dept. was essentially non-existent.) We already have an organic dairy delivery service which is mostly for DS since I am lactose intolerant. The new organic produce delivery service is super so far. They have an incredible amount of items available and the fresh produce we received yesterday is magnificent. Having healthy fruits and veggies on hand makes it so much simpler for me to remain compliant.

Happy Weekend All!

Today was a non compliant day for me, so my image boards didn't see any activity...... emoticon

Looks like the quad and glute in my left leg are in a state of atrophy because of the femoral nerve damage suffered with the last surgery........ So......I have to force things a bit with that leg. It's usable, but very uncomfortable and range of motion minimal...... Looking like returning to the equestrian world is probably not gonna happen.
Getting lots of PT tho and pool time...... Both good things.

Tomorrow? I wake up the image boards!!! emoticon

Great suggestions to June, Kathy! So glad you are back here posting. I really missed you!

June - Kathy's comments sound good to me.

I have strung together a few really good days. Yesterday my energy level was really high. I might have overdone it though because I am kind of tired and achy today.

June..... Sometimes it helps to take really tiny small steps...... Kinda one-thing-at-a-time attitude...... Something as simple as have a glass of water instead of a diet coke today..... And log it. Before you know it, you will find that your days are filled up with small tiny steps..... And voila! You're back on track full time.

Image boards help......I.e., a photo of a tall empty glass..... Everytime you make a small change, mark a water line in the glass...... The next day.... Add one more small change, make a water line a little higher than the first one. Before you know it..... You'll have a full glass!!! 😁
Hope my babbling helps give you some ideas!!

Thanks for posting...... This may help more people than you know.... emoticon

Sparkjames - Congrats on your consistency with the treadmill. Regardless of the number on the scale, you are doing good things for your body and your health and that is immeasurable. Like Kathy, I look forward to being able to use a treadmill again, as my health improves.

I did fine today. Will face some "super" challenges tomorrow with the SuperBowl....but I am planning some healthy choices for myself.

You're building muscle mass which is heavier than fat, so your weight on the scale is going to stay the same (and some experience a gain). It's actually temporary...... Keep on keeping on...... You'll see the results soon. Go by inches and how your clothes fit looser while you're waiting for the scale to catch up with the progress. Good on ya!!! I can't wait till I can actually use a treadmill again!!!!

Hope all is well with everybody.

So, January, i decided to add regular treadmill to the 17DD. After the month of January, checked my weight and it wasn't a really big difference compared to a regular month on 17DD w/o treadmill. I think you would have to be much more aggressive with weights and cardio to lose at a quicker rate. Moderate use isn't going to add alot of difference but its better then nothing. Thats what i learned with my body this past month. Hope this helps.

So, i lost 25lbs since being on 17DD about 7 months ago. So, i'm averaging about 3lb/month loss now which i am used to. I hope to lose 15 pounds this year.

June - Belated birthday greetings to you! Going on vacation is great motivation to stay compliant! Where are you going? Glad you are back here posting again. You were missed.

Like June, I too have increased my motivation. We have an event coming up in early May, a church get together with friends coming here from outside of our immediate area. I am hoping to drop some significant weight between now and then so that I can treat myself to new outfit to wear to this event that happens only once every two years.

My day is off to a great start. I grocery shopped on Saturday and stocked up with more fresh veggies, which always helps me stay on track. I went out to lunch yesterday with some friend and strayed from plan, but am back on track today.

Let's all have a compliant successful week!

Welcome!! What you will notice (as you are tracking your food) is that the 17 day diet is very nutrient dense......so you probably won't be reaching 1200 kcals daily. That's okay in the first cycle. The kcals will level out as you move thru the cycles!!

Congrats!! Especially avoiding all those "goodies" that surround you at work!!

Hi, I am doing my first check in. I am on Day 3. So far, I am doing well in spite of, the cupcakes and donuts at work. I even cover the packages up with a paper towel for a while.I am not hungry at all but am having problems getting enough calories in. I am hoping today to bring it up to 1200. I am thirstier, but I am drinking more water. Which is good. I lost 3 lbs already. Overall I am please about this plan.

Kathy - hope the new PT techniques help. I am very amazed at how much PT can do at times. We had very high winds here in PA yesterday. Some areas lost electricity due to downed wires. Our area was spared this time however.

I have been doing pretty well for the past few days. I hope to grocery shop later in the week to restock up on the healthy compliant foods I need to stay on track.

Hope the week is going well for everyone!

Doing very well this week. Went out to dinner on Monday (two days in a row....very unusual for me). Once again, I made good choices and felt good afterwards (except for that blasted sodium!). I am broiling fish for dinner tonight (wild caught flounder bought on sale yesterday) and will add green beans and a salad for another compliant meal.

Happy Humpday to all!

Kathy - Hope your vog clears up soon! Hooray for you for going to the gym. Way to go!

Betty - Woo hoo for your cardio exercise. Your determination will serve you well! I understand finding an alternative when the weather is not cooperating. By the way, emoticon too!

I went out to dinner today with a group of friends (12 of us all together). I ordered grilled chicken, steamed broccoli, and a salad with dressing on the side. The down side to eating out for me is always the high sodium content in restaurant food. I know it will pass in a few days, but I don't like the feeling I get from so much sodium.

emoticon Hope everyone is doing well as we enter this new week. emoticon

Boy!! We've been dealing with VOG!!! That's a combination of no trade winds combined with volcanic ash (from the big island) blanketing the island chain. It's made it tough to navigate! Nonetheless....I put in an hour at the gym today..... Some time on the bike and the rest in the pool....... Am determined to beat this disability, I am!!!

June - I understand your cheat day. I strayed pretty far from plan today. That happens sometimes when I am tired and pressured to get a lot done. That is what happened today....lots to do and not a lot of energy to get it all done.

Well, I did get a lot done today. But I didn't do great with my eating. And I "craved and caved," so to speak. This is the first time I have had any cravings in quite a while. Moving on to a successful day tomorrow.

Tammy, glad things are going well for you. I did a bunch of household stuff sort of, I went through all my Christmas stuff and organized my storage area. Feels good.

I have been doing pretty good, I did have a cheat day today but will continue on tomorrow. I really want to jump on the scale but I am not sure it's a good idea yet but it is motivating to see the scale move, even if its only .2 on the scale

June :)

Had a compliant day and accomplished a lot of household chores as well. Feeling good but tired now after a busy day.

Sparkjames - Woo hoo on your wt. loss! I agree that good news at the scale is highly motivating. Your doc sounds very wise. Keep that momentum going!

June - Sounds like you are doing great! I understand adding things to help stay on track. I do the same and still have found success...being what we are adding is still protein and not unhealthy processed junk food. Keep your momentum going too!

I am doing well. My dinner challenge worked out ok...not totally compliant for sure, but again, I made wise choices and did not over eat and had no cravings afterward. Chicken is on the menu here for tomorrow, along with a big healthy salad.

emoticon Let's make this a great weekend friends! emoticon

4 days down and I am doing pretty good. I did have a little bit of ham twice, once on a salad and once in an omelet. I know it isn't part of cycle 1 but if it keeps me on this diet i'll be doing better than falling completely off. I also had some gravy with my turkey yesterday and had some regrets but I ate compliant the rest of the time.

I sort of wish I had jumped on the scale to see the progress, the first days are always the best and so motivating.

How has the new been to everyone else?

June :)

Right on. Happy 2017 as well. Hope the new week is continuing forward. I also took my weight and haven't done that in a while. Well, i lost a good amt of weight. I praise God for that. It definitely is motivating to continue forward into the next level this year. Started to bring back using a food/drink diary, treadmill and light weights. One thing that i think is a breakthru as far as treadmill, is to split the workout throughout the day. Instead of doing a 60 minute walk or run. Do 15 or 20 minutes at a time. It makes it less intimidating and goes by quick. You can do that in exercising but not with food. Food should always be less as the day ends. That was good advice given to me by a Doctor.

Woo hoo June! Way to go. Usually the first few days are the toughest. You will make it. We can support each other.

I am very happy to report that I weighed in today, my first weigh-in since before Christmas. I am so pleased that I stayed the same....didn't lose, but didn't gain either. I will definitely count this as a victory. I am on track today and feeling strong. We have a special dinner tomorrow evening that will present some challenges but I am resolved not to let it completely derail me. I know there will always be "special occasions" that crop up, and I am firmly committed to make wise choices and keep the momentum going.

Here's to all of us getting healthier and feeling better in 2017! emoticon

Tammy, got my first day in the books and i did pretty good.

I do have a headache and I am sure my body really just wants some carbs. I am hoping for strength to get through the first week or so. I know I can make it if I get past the first week.

Hope you had a great day too!

June :)

June - I hear you on the scale thing! I weighed in at the beginning of the holidays and was actually down a few pounds. I plan to weigh in early in January as well. My eating is definitely healthier than before I found this diet. Now I need to get a little more serious about staying the course.

Wishing a great weekend to all!

Tammy that ticker is old and 89 days unhealthy eating is more like it. I will update it on the 2nd but not sure what I am going to do, I won't weigh myself until I know I am in the safe zone. I am really afraid of what it might say

June - Of course you can check in here! It will be great to keep up and support each other. Several members here have done various modified versions of the 17DD. We don't stand on ceremony here. Will look forward to your posts and progress. I like your ticker....very motivating.

I am doing ok, especially considering it is the holidays. I will be back full force on the 17DD as of Jan. 2. I need that jumpstart of C1 and think this will be a good time to get it going, though I will have to navigate a dinner challenge on Jan. 6, already on my calendar. I have learned a great deal from the concepts and premise of this diet and I can apply these concepts even if I deviate a bit from the plan.

The weekend is almost upon us. Let's make it a good one and a healthy & safe one, friends.

Hey Tammy, hope all is well with you. I am restarted on Monday Jan 2. I am not positive if I will do the 17 day diet again or something different but I would still like to check in here either way.

Sparkjames - I have found conflicting info on the impat of night shade veggies on folks with RA. I don't avoid them completely but do try to stay away from them when I possibly can. Glad you did well with eating over the holidays. Same here. I strayed from plan but remained conscious of what I was eating and made primarily wise choices.

I am doing well today and actually am a bit surprised that I had a burst of energy today, given my recent RA flares. I went out to eat with friends...had grilled salmon, a salad, and steamed broccoli....black coffee..no soda, no alcohol...and lots of water. I also grocery shopped so again we are well stocked with compliant foods. We have potential for bad weather later this week and over the weekend so I was highly motivated to stock up now. That way....no excuses...healthy food is here....and that is what I will eat. I ran a few other errands as well today which sometimes really would wipe me out. I am tired now but not as exhausted as usual, so that is a huge victory for me.

Here's to a great last week of 2016 for all of us!

i didn't realize peppers were not good for those with RA. I didn't do too bad with overeating during Xmas. I'm looking forward to starting some new cardio and light weight training with the 17DD food regiment. Hardest part is starting so i will try to get that going sometime this coming week. Happy New Year to you too Tammy and everyone.

Lynne (Leannrocks) - Welcome back. Like you, I have kept off the 35+ pounds I dropped on this diet over 3 years ago. I still have a long way to go and often stumble but find that this is by far the best plan for me. We are glad to have you back here. Please remember to spin your pennants on your start page for our team. We are a small team that has been very quiet lately, but we are still here nevertheless. Looking forward to your posts and to sharing this journey with you as we make more strides in our healthy lifestyles.

Sparkjames - I looked into the cayenne and found (or should I say was reminded) that it comes from a night shade veggie (a pepper) which is not supposed to be good for folks (like me) who have RA. So I don't think I'll be trying it any too soon. I might ask my rheumatologist about it when I see him in March.

I had a good day today for eating but did not get in any exercise as my RA is flaring just a bit and my energy level was rather low. Tomorrow I have a lot of errands to run and then have dinner plans with some friends. I am expecting to order salmon and steamed broccoli, an old stand-by for me at the restaurant where we are going.

Here's to a great week for all of us!

Hi everyone, been months since I've posted to this board. Do you find that anything social media-like is a time vampire? I am gearing up to start cycle 1 again on Jan 1. I had big success with 17DD in 2011, losing 35#, which I have let return. One thing I remembered about that time is I spent more time cooking than I was used to. Maybe this time I can do more prep work to have things on hand, like turkey patties or soups.

Best wishes for what is a hectic week for some!
