Sounds to me like you have some obstacles in your path but also that you are willing to deal with them in a positive fashion. Congratulations for that.
You are starting out good and I wish you the very best success.

Goals..what are those...oh yeah, the things I am trying so hard to define and stick to.

Long Term Goal, Physical: To lose 100 pounds by April 2012
Long Term Goal, Mental: To acknowledge the 170 pounds I have already lost and FEEL IT!

Mid Term Goal, Physical: To lose 50 pounds by August 2011 (51 would be nice as this would be the first time I have been under 200 pounds as an adult)
Mid Term Goal, Mental: To come to terms with my inner self, what I need to do to clear the decks and get my physical self on track and quit putting myself down.

Short Term Goal: Take each day as it comes
Short Term Goal: Log in to Spark People every day
Short Term Goal: Prep meals the evening before
Short Term Goal: Drink all my water
Short Term Goal: Use the word restart, instead of fail.
Short Term Goal: Acknowledge my milestones. A day of success is a success--don't minimize it.
Short Term Goal: Get my Gazelle up and working (by the end of the month)

I broke my ankle, femur and messed up my knee in 2009. I have had 4 operations on my leg in the last 18 months. They are talking of replacing my knee this August. Right now it is pure ice outside and I have to walk with a cane. It hurts so bad. Next Friday GotJunk is coming to take one of my chairs and then my friends are coming over to help me put together my Gazelle. It doesn't make you bend your knee like an eliptical or a bike...my knee grinds like a barbie knee with all the clicks.

I had gastric bypass in 2003 and I lost 170 pounds, but I don't really feel any different. I haven't lost any more weight since about 2006 but I haven't gained any back either. I sure can't carry 170 pounds. My GB doc has a food bank drive every year, where you donate as much food as you have lost. 170 pounds is a LOT of food.

But I am still morbidly obese. I weighed over 300 pounds when I graduated high school so this is the least I have weighed as an adult. I don't even know what my goal weight is.

You are right about failing to plan is planning to fail.
Sorry you are sick. Take it easy on what you eat so it settles in right.
Good luck.

Great plan on the "meal planning". I have done this in the past and it works. It does take some time and planning, but in my experience, Failing to Plan is Planning to Fail. My goal is to lose 20 pounds. I was starting the day off well with all my planned meals packed and when I was at work, got nauseous and barfed. So for today so far, I have not eaten. This is also going to affect my workout plans for today, but I am feeling better already, so I have high hopes for tomorrow :-).

If you knew of a spectacular mountain that was very very tall, yet climbable. And if it was well-established that from that peak, you could literally see all the love that bathes the world, dance with the angels and party with the gods. Would you curse or celebrate each step you took as you ascended it? Perspectives change everything.

EVERYONE:

Tracking your food before you eat it is essential to staying on track (no pun intended). Plan your meals for the day and enter them while planning.

That gives you the opportunity to use the SparkRecipe converter to put in some of your recipes to see just what the nutritional elements are and then you can modify them to better fit your goals.

If you plan your food for the week and shop for it all at once you will also save not only time but money.

When you have your food in your tracker for the day then you know what will happen if you stray from it. There isn't much room for failure this way.

AND,
walk every day. Even if just a 1/2 mile at first. MOVE.
You don't have to go wild with dvd's and join a gym. Just move.

Good luck to all of you.

I'd like to lose about 35 pounds. I was diagnosed with moderate to severe osteoarthritis in both my knees. Decided everything would be a lot easier if I could take off some weight. Especially the stairs...lol I started TurboFire (prep schedule) on Monday (low impact) and looking forward to changing it all;)

I want to lose 22 pounds to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight. My youngest daughter is 18 months now so its time for the "baby weight" to come off! My short-term goal is to be in the 160s in time for a cruise I am taking with my hubby next month.

Long term, I'd like to lose 41 pounds and weigh 138 by August 1st. My birthday is on the 9th and I want to give myself the gift of health and set a precedent for the rest of my life. Then, in September, another friend and I are going caving and hiking in Mexico to celebrate.

In the short term, I'd like to lose five pounds this month, and 10-15lbs by May 1st.

I worry that my goal of losing 41 pounds by August might be a bit extreme, but if I don't quite make it, I'll just keep working at it until I do!

Ahh, the goals. Without goals, we strive aimlessly for nothing. =)

My long term goal is to get down to 140 pounds. Once there, I will determine if I should or could go lower.

My short term goal is to lose 49 pounds by the end of August. This will finally FINALLY put me under 200 pounds. It's been a very long time since I've been there!

My SHORT short term goal is to just take one day at time and not worry about whether I will cheat tomorrow, or eat too much on the weekend - it's just to concentrate on today's food intake and exercise output.

Luck to everyone!

Maggie

If it is to be, it's up to me.

My LONG term goal is to lose 125 lbs and figure out the emotions behind my weight issues.

Medium term - I set my tracker to 50 lbs so it does not seem quite so much of a hurtle.

Short term - Track everything I eat, drink more water, and exercise at least 3 days a week.

Long Term Goals:
1. Lose 50 pounds (more or less) by 2012.
2. Look & feel fit and strong by establishing a regular habit of exercising.
3. Lower my cholesterol levels and increase my health by improving my diet and avoiding (for the most part) processed foods and sugar.

Short Term Goals:
1. Lose 8-10 pounds by end of March (I'm expecting to lose quickly at first).
2. Complete Turbo Jam Beginner's Program by end of March.
3. Track food & water.

Long term, I want to lose atleast 110 lbs., which would put me down to 160 lbs. I would love to actually get down to 140 lbs.

Short Term, I am shooting for 2 lbs. a week. This is what my doctor and I have talked about. She thinks, with me being as overweight as I am, I should lose weight fast at first. So I guess my first short term goal would be to weigh 262 lbs. by the end of March.
