Hi Team, I'm back after a short stint away to take care of a very writing intensive Masters class and to spend as much time with my husband as possible since this was the only 2 weeks I get to see him for the entire year!! I'm ready to get back to work as I've only maintained the last couple of months, and really get serious about weight loss...WHO'S WITH ME??
I'm going out to the store to buy a couple more peices of gym equipment for home so I can exercise when I can't make it to the gym. I'm getting a Bosu ball and a medicine ball. I already have a swiss ball and weights up to 15 pounds.

Well done Lynn on your progress!
How is everyone going? My weight loss has slowed a little but I'm still "Fired Up". Last week I gained 0.2kgs but found that my waist had reduced 6cm in 10 days! I'm doing way more exercise than ever before in my life and I love e-meeting all you people on SparkPeople.com
Good luck everyone! I hope you're enjoying the challenges! I just signed up for the Diabetes 8 week challenge. I've not been tested for a while but I know I'm high risk and could be in the pre-diabetes stage so am trying to stop myself from getting Type 2.

Hi, my name is Lynn and I am TRULY thankful I stumbled upon this site. I have been through a lot over the last several years and pretty much was shutting down waiting to die. When I had to face the fact that it was 7 years since my husband passed and 6 since my daughter also passed, I realized I have to try to get a life and most importantly my health back. Things had gotten out of control, my weight was up to 317 the week before I joined and since I have COPD my energy and distance I could walk were pretty close to non existent! WELL I just made up my mind and with extreme determination in two short months I am amazed at my results.
No mind you, this is all I have in my life. I am on disability, have COPD, overweight with both knees replacements (2009) and both hips replaced (2004). I have pretty much eaten, slept, and exercised according to SparkPeople and everyday I get better and better.
I can now do 20 min on treadmill, walk a mile, use the recumbent bike for 30 min., having been doing strength exercises, dancing to my favorite tunes, anything I can to get myself up and moving. IT WORKS and I am loving it. I especially am grateful to God for giving me the strength and for me being able to have the time in my life to DEDICATE TO MYSELF!!

Hi everyone. I am not one to post messages due to my hectic schedule, but because of the inspirational post from others and knowing I am not on this journey alone I feel the urge to contribute as well. SP has enabled my to be accountable for my health and fitness and desire to live a healthier lifestyle from this day forward.

Hi! I'm Kathy and I joined Spark People because I decided that its time to spend some time taking care of me. Im the mother of 5 children, have 2 grandchildren,a husband and 2 parakeets that are like family to me. I'm always doing for everyone else and now its my turn. Im going back to college, trying to take care of my health needs, learning to relax and have fun,and have my own personal adventure. Since Ive joined Ive had surgery and have experienced some minor setbacks, but its all good. I gained 5 pounds during my first week because I was having difficulty following the plan with my health needs. My doctor said he will remove my current resrictions in 2 weeks as long as my follow up goes well.

Hi I'm Rachel. I joined SparkPeople because I need motivation! I am a 23 yr old female and because of my career, I am sitting most of the day. The weight has crept up and I'm ready to take it off! I used to be a runner in highschool but haven't ran much since. I recently started the couch to 5k program but would ultimately like to be able to run a 10k. I am looking for running events to enter in my area to motivate my progress.

Hi there! My name is Laurie and I joined Spark because I have been thinking about losing weight but I haven't been fully committed to it. I'm hoping this will help me be more accountable and keep me motivated. I will be turning 40 this year and I have a 2 year old daughter. Two big reasons why I want to do this NOW! Food is my downfall. I don't eat healthy and I snack too much. I really don't mind exercising. I just don't do it enough. I am proud to say that I completed a Learn to Run 5K program in the fall and I am currently training for 10K. I am looking forward to spring to be able to train outdoors again. I am looking forward to this journey that we are all on together!

HI Mary and TY for such a nice welcome! I"m still trying to figure out how to reply to a person, posting or topic!! lol but hey...slow and steady right! I started on SP feb. 9th, but it was later towards evening, so i dont count that day as my start day. I dont believe in quick fixes, and my weight is no exception to that rule! I had a very nice lady suggest the slowest losers team to me because of my health issues and the limited excercise i'm able to do. Smart ppl around here i'll tell ya!! Anyhow, thanks so much for the encouragement!! TC and GB!! Sincerely, Jody

My name is Michelle. I am severely obese. I am 4' 11" and weigh 210 pounds. I feel like I am wide as I am tall. I have got to do this for myself and my family. I am an all or nothing type of person. So I usually quit the first time I slip up. I am going to try my best to be realistic and stick to it this time. So I am going to need alot of help.
I look forward to getting to know everyone and make some great friends.
I am 4 feet 11 inches tall. My goal is to lose 10 pounds at a time.

I own the book and I love it! Almost everything in the book is on the site...I think. The great thing about the book is it is it takes the spark philosophy and puts it in one easy to read format. You can get the same information on the site, but you'll have to search through all of the articles to find it all, which will take more time. Once you buy the book and register it on the site, you can also get in on some great discussions with other people because you'll be automatically enrolled in a "readers of the spark" team. The book also includes some great menus and diet information, as well as some fitness routines designed by our very own Coach Nicole. You can read about Chris' story of how SparkPeople came to be, and several motivational success stories of fellow sparkers. If you're not sure that you want to buy it, grab it from the library and check it out. I personally think it's worth having on your bookshelf :)

HI there. My name is Lindsay. I'm very excited about this. Would you recommended the book or is everything from the book in the web site? I have dieted before and recently got new life. My husband and I made 10 years of marriage. Sitting there looking through the old pictures of us dating and the wedding the first year (before I got pregnant) I realized the major difference. I weighed 162 back then. Wore size 12-14. My health and energy has all gone. My husband brought that up in a very loving way. I feel more energized about this then I have in the pass. Any motivation or suggestions are very welcome. So good luck to all you out there and here goes day 1

Hi Everyone and Welcome to SparkPeople!
I'm glad you decided to join this great community and I know you'll find what you need to reach your goals! One thing I've heard many times about SparkPeople is there is so much information it is overwhelming. Don't feel like you have to learn everything overnight. If you want to do something and don't know where to go, ask in the question forum provided on this team. I have created some challenges for you to get your feet wet with a lot of the tools Spark offers and I've created a forum to help you find and keep your motivation going. If you're here to lose weight, remember you didn't gain it overnight, so you won't lose it overnight. Take your weight loss journey slow and steady, and learn this site slow and steady and you'll be setting yourself up for success! Let me know if you need anything!
