Yeah, I find that it is one thing I can squeeze into my day. Now that I am getting up in the dark and then by the time I am home it is getting dark, it's less dangerous than walking in my neighborhood. My neighborhood is safe, but with miminal streetlights, so the sidewalks aren't lit well. I took a bad still a year ago, when I wasn't able to see some landscaping bricks that had fallen onto the sidewalk and I tripped over them. Since I don't carry a flashlight I had to find a better activity when Standard time kicks in. Jump rope work for me.

Jump rope is a very good choice! An article here says 10 minutes of jump rope is like 30 minutes of jogging! Cool or what? emoticon

This has just been a busy month. I have started to jump rope in the mornings and in the evenings as I haven't been walking as much as I should be. The weather is getting uncooperative and most of my exercise has to be indoors now.

A friend suggested that I look into a winter pass a the fitness center that is attached to the high school. They have an indoor walking track, which sounds like better idea than trying to walk in the dark. I did a lot of mall walking last winter, but that is pretty boring.

I'm nearing my goal, down from 99 kg to 77kg (22kg). My body is getting really into shape. I wrote some insights in my blog yesterday (19th Oct). It takes time to switch mentally to the new me.

Congratulations on losing 28 pounds, that's great! Are you able to continue your walks in the morning? I'm in the same situation, where it's getting dark very early, and I don't want to walk / run outside after work. I've resorted to getting up earlier, going to the gym to use a treadmill, and using my Wii Fit Plus. I don't think it's as effective, but it's something!

I am at a plateau. I have lost 28 pounds since I started on January 17th, but with school starting and dealing with my dad's health (he's 94 and some of his parts don't work as well as they once did) I don't get the exercise I was getting in the summer. I am worried about how to keep up with everything this winter. It will be dark by the time I am home from school and I don't really want to try and keep up the walks in the dark.

almost 1/2 way to my goal. Started school and a new relationship. Strange how they slowed down my weight loss. I'm busier now but less active.

I am still here and this week I get to celebrate two wonderful things. I have finally dropped at least 10 pounds (10 since starting to track on Sparkpeople, 6 before that.) In addition, my doctor told me to stop taking my blood pressure pills. I am so very happy.

Well, I investigated the site in January but so I am part of this class. However, I just started this week. Looking at others progress has made me wish I had started back then but I was just moving out after a 20 year marriage and my mind wasn't in the right place. It is now, so I'm off to a great start this week, tracking my food, eating 5 fruits and veggies a day, drinking my water, and losing 1 1/2 pounds. I might not seem like much but it is more progress than I have made in many, many months. I'm so happy for all of you who are half way to your goal. Keep up the great work!!

since january I have lost 21 pounds. I started with 165 and now I am 144. I have come a long way but my goal is to be down to at least 125 by christmas. I am half way there and I still going strong. I have had a few set backs but I am now on track and ready to lose more weight.

I weighed in yesterday, and I'm 69.4 kgs (or approx. 153 lbs). Chest / Waist / Hip measurement is 37 / 32.5 / 39.5, so I know I've come a long way since January. My goal is to weigh 147 lbs, and measure 36 / 31 / 38.5 by Christmas. I've still got some work to do!!

I've gone from the 150's to the 120's since January 16th, so I'll say I'm doing well. I'm only working to tighten and tone with weights at this point and running a few times per week as the heat allows.

I haven't been active in this group, but I talked to Bugqueen90, and thought to check in. I don't know, 23000 members, I just didn't know where to start. But here I am.
So my healthy lifesytel journey is doing great.
I track food for each meal, took on exercising each day, watch my calorie budget, changed my eating habits to eat healthy.
I'm also down from 97.5 to 85.5 kg by today(214.5 lbs to 188.1lbs). Feels great!

I wish i had taken measurement when i first began. Maybe since I am around halfway there I should start it. Knurlhalls statement that our bodies adjust and our minds don't want to is so true, but I think it works in reverse too! At least for me it did this week! haha

That is awesome about being 1/2 way to your goal!! I'm at the halfway point too (although I have much more to lose...). It's very smart of you to take measurements too. I'm just too lazy, but I know it's a great way to see progress. Keep up the GREAT work!

I've lost 10 lbs so far; want to lose 10 more. I've lost about an inch on my waist, 1/2" on my thighs, nothing on my biceps. But my arms have lost something because I put a shirt on the other day that the sleeves used to be really tight on, so maybe I measured wrong the first time. So, I'm really pleased about my progress so far!

Maritimer3 – It is usually for that wall to hit us around this time. We see great results and get all excited then it slows down and we start to revert back to old habits. I do it too, we all do. We need to keep reminding ourselves that we have made great progress, and 15 pounds is awesome! If we keep it up the progress may be slower but we will continue to go in the right direction. Our bodies adjust and our mind wants to give up. Keep strong, don’t give up and keep sparking on here. Try joining us in our daily chat board. We have a ton of support there!

Today is my 3 month Sparkversary! I feel really good, although I can say that this was easier when I started. I think the hard thing now is keeping the motivation. It is tough when you know you are putting in the work and you are not getting the results that you want. But, I am here to say that I am going to defeat the battle of the bulge.

To anyone that is struggling, this is your time. We have to keep going. Think of this as a gift we are giving to ourselves and our families. There is nothing more important than that!

Hugs to you all!

Hi Everyone:

I have not posted in this team even though I have been at this for 10 weeks or so. So far I have lost 18.4 pounds. This past week I stayed the same, this is the first time I didn't lose something. I have been extremely busy and haven't exercised as much as usual so I am sure that had something to do with it. I am hoping for a better weigh in this week but even if the scale doesn't move I know I have eaten healthy and that is what is most important. I am so thankful to God for leading me to this site through a co-worker who is doing great herself.

Efay23 - don't get discouraged, remember this is a marathon and lifestyle change, not a diet plan. It takes time to get in the hang of it and we all fall off the wagon. We all have plateaus and we all get frustrated. Just keep up the good work and the weight will continue to come off. The weight loss speed will and does slow down, that is normal.

You have lost 8 pounds and that is awesome! I am sure you are feeling better and maybe even seeing it in how your clothes fit. Keep those things in mind and keep working on it! join us in the daily chat message board too. We have a ton of great support in there!

I've been having a tough time lately... at first I was losing a pound a week... and now it's much slower. I'm jump starting my this weekend again though because it was working so well. I'm still eating waaay better than before. I've lost two pounds in the past couple weeks though, so I haven't totally plateaued...

8 pounds so far. =)

I've been on Sparkpeople since January 18th and as of today I have lost 33 lbs. A couple weeks ago, I fell off the wagon for several days (almost a week!) and I gained 1.6 lbs. Two weeks later I have lost that 1.6 lbs plus two more! My goal is to lose a total of 40 lbs by April 15th. I may not reach that but I know I"ll be pretty darn close. It feels good to see results.

I am down 7 pounds now thanks to SP! Since I do Turbo Jam (kickboxing) I only have to workout twice a week for 20 minutes each time! This site taught me that I was either starving or binging and over-exercising!! Thanks for putting me back on track!!

So far, I'm doing great...but I think the progress is slowing for sure. I started Biggest Loser at work on January 14th weighing in at 236. My last weigh in was March 11th and I weighed 216...20 pounds! My ticker is all off...not sure why.

By April 22nd - the last day of the contest- I want to lose 10 more lbs for a total of 30. But I don't want to stop there. I want to lose a total of 70 lbs...eeek!

I'm doing good and I think SP is great! I am exercising daily, tracking absolutely "everything", reading articles, posting, etc. SP is very time consuming but I love it anyway.

The one thing I realize is that although I have a larger weight loss goal in mind (shown on my weight ticker), what is better for me is to set a "mini goal" (shown on my start page). My "mini goal" is a weight goal that I'm trying to reach by a certain date. Once I reach that weight, then I will change it. The mini goal works a little better for me. I don't have a whole bunch to loose anyway but still, it works for me.

I love the 5 minute pep talk idea! Sometimes the voice in my head is not so nice, lol. My weigh in was today and I stayed the same, after a bad week, I am thrilled! I hope we all have a successful weekend. emoticon

I'm doing great so far. It's been 5 weeks and I've lost 10.6 lbs. I've had more success with Sparkpeople than anything else I've tried. And it's been easy. The biggest help to me has been the nutrition tracker. I didn't realize how much I was underestimating on serving sizes.

I'm the type that, when things are going good, I'm waiting for something bad to happen. I have, in the past, subconsciously sabotaged myself in a self-fulfilling prophecy kind of way. I'm determined not to do that this time. I've started giving myself 5 min pep talks every day (see under "other goals" - motivation) to stop the negative chatter in my head and make the positive chatter a habit.

Angel :)

I'm doing well, I think. The numbers on the scale went in the right direction this week - I lost 2.6 pounds. I've lost 4 pounds overall. I've been cooking more and inputing all my food into the nutrition tracker. Some days I find myself having to eat more to meet my nutrition goals. I'm paying more attention to food labels and really watching my sodium intake. I've been unpleasantly surprised at how much sodium is in almost everything.

I joined the 10-minute Fitness Challenge and that had motivated me to do something everything everyday - and usually for way more than 10 minutes!

Even though the numbers on the scale or the tape measure have not changed significantly, my clothes already fit better.

If you don't like something change it; if you can't change it, change the way you think about it. ~Mary Engelbreit

while I have been working out for the last week and a half or so I quit tracking my food and I think no I know I was not fully honest with my self on what i ate. Like I would have a bite of a cookie not the whole cookie just a bite, then1/2 hour later or so have another bite, see if you do it this way you don't have to count the calories...... the worst part of it is I am really not a sweets kinda gal, I am a meat and taters lover. So anywoo I started tracking my "food" again this week and once again it is a real eye opener on how much i really do put into my body. I keep telling my self that I am working out to hard to sink my efforts with a moment of weakness. My clothes are fitting better I have dropped a pant size and I feel awesome but my weight is not changing~ what is up with that it is so frustrating! Maybe when I weight in on Monday it will change.... crossing fingers and saying a little prayer.

emoticon I am doing good. I've lost 3 pounds. I would have thought I would've lost a few more pounds but just as long as I'm losing is what really matters. Although the loss have been slow, believe me, I'll take a 1 pound down anyday versus 1 pound up. Overall, I've learned alot about my food intake and what I need to do to improve. I'm drinking my water, tracking absolutely everything, reading the articles, etc. I'm thankful for SP.

Great! I'm lucky because I'm retired and spend quite a bit of time online planning meals, inputting some of my favourite recipes and modifying they to come closer to the SP recommendations re fat, carbs and protein. I track very carefully, pre-plan meals and snacks each day and try to do some exercise (at least a mile on the treadmill) every day. Scale has shown the results - I lost 11 lbs. the first five weeks.

I spent the entire year of 2010 starving myself, then binging and over-exercising the whole time with NO weight loss for all my frustration and efforts. I joined this site on 1/18 and I have lost 3 pounds so far! I am so happy, my weight did not budge last year! I am 5ft 1in and I cried when my weight went over 160 lbs. last fall. I joined this site at 162 and now I am 159 - below the 160 line!! This site has taught me that I overeat on most days (until I joined, not anymore!), eat too much sodium and carbs and I exercise too much! Now I am meeting all my food guidelines except for potassium and I only have to exercise twice a week for 20 minutes each time. I do the 20 minute Turbo Jam workout, it is classified as kickboxing on this site. I do not have to go to the gym, which I never liked to do and exercise no longer rules my life thanks to the Spark! I do not eat diet food, instead I focus on not eating chemicals which seem to be the reason why I put on weight. I can eat kraft mac'n'cheese and gain weight so fast but if I eat the same amount calorie-wise of Amy's kitchen mac'n'cheese I do not gain a pound! So thanks to Amy's Kitchen frozen organic dinners I can still have my fav, mac'n'cheese, and lasagna and burritos, LOL! I guess I am just sensitive to all the chemicals that have been put into the food we buy. No more MSG and no more high fructose corn syrup for me! So all I have to do is watch my portions and stay away from chemicals, and work out less. Thank you so much Sparkpeople!

My mantra has been so helpful, I heard a girl on MTV's 'I used to be fat" say, "It's a lot harder to get in mental shape that physical shape." I instantly questioned myself. How are you talking to yourself? Treat yourself with love. Push through the mental walls. You can do it! I used to get on the treadmill and think.. ugh.. 30 minutes!! And I still get those thoughts but I fight them back and say it's only 30 minutes. 29 minutes left. You can do it. This is easy. I'd rather be uncomfortable on the treadmill than trying to get off the couch. LOL! I know some of these are silly but I really need to work on what I"m telling my soul all day.

Just some random ramblings.

I feel like I'm doing good. I'm not going to reach my first goal for this week, but I think I'll reach it by next week. I'll be happy to be even close this week! I'm keeping on track and trying to do as much as I can every day and stay motivated when I don't keep on track. I've lost 5 pounds so far!

Good luck everyone!!

I'm only down 2 lbs so far... but that's including being sick for one week and then having a minor procedure that prevented me from exercising for a few days. It makes me feel a little bad that I'm not doing as well as everyone else. When I check a couple weeks ago, we were all at about 2-3 pounds. Suddenly, I've fallen behind. I know that just means I need to exercise more and keep at it. I really love this website though. It really helps me even when I mess up.

Hey everyone! I'm down 6lbs. and I feel really good about the lifestyle changes I've been able to make. I love the motivation section of the site. It's so helpful when I really don't feel like doing anything. I've downloaded the blackberry app to track my food intake and fitness. I LOVE IT! It's helped keep me accountable. How are you all doing?
The site has so much to offer. Thank goodness for Sparkpoints. They keep me exploring new areas of the site. What do you guys use most often?

Thank you Blessedwifeandmom! I went to a birthday lunch today and thought I did really well with my eating, until I got on and tallied the calories. How can one lunch be more calories than I am supposed to have in one day?? Oh well, just got to shake it off. Tried not to eat supper, but that didn't really work, so I guess I have to workout more this week to make up for it. Congrat's LOSE_THE_POUNDS on your loss! I agree, this site is a huge help, wish I had more time to be on!

TOYOTALEAN: I am, by no means, an expert. However, I just have a suggestion. Are you planning your food for the day? The only way I make it through the day is by planning every bite if food that goes in my mouth. If not, I blow it big time. It takes some time and planning, but it works for me. Even if you have to grab fast food, Subway turkey on wheat with baked lays will help with the chip craving, but it is a healthier option and doable in the calorie range. This may not help you, but this has worked for me.

BFIT4EVER5: Good job! It is hard when we have temptations. Way to stay on top of it and not let them get the best of you. It took years to form those bad habits. It is going to take awhile to retrain ourselves.

HASHEYCOLE74: It sounds like you are losing inches!! Who cares about the lbs if you feel better and your clothes are fitting better, or not better in your instance! Keep up the good work! (I am in Indiana too)

So far I have done fairly well with my plan and have lost every week. This week I am struggling more - some old habits are rearing their ugly heads. I have trouble with carbs. I really want to eat way more then I should and I see it makes a difference in my weight loss. This past week I really wanted them. Today I feel I am back on track and telling myself - I can't blow this now - I am off to a good start.

Well it's 3 weeks in for me... and I haven't seen much of a change on the scale BUT.... did notice while out dancing Friday night that my pants kept sliding down =) It was a kind of annoying but at the same time made me smile!
Let's hope this weather here in Indiana starts looking up so I can get outside!

BEACHGRLl5, this is a work in progress. We are all going to slip from time to time. Just decide that this is a new day and today, you are going to make healthy choices for your body. You can't do anything about the weekend. Don't beat yourself up, just move forward with your journey. You can do this!

So far, so good. I've done all of my planned exercise, and stuck to my calorie totals and have lost 4.8 pounds.

I feel a bit hungry from time to time, but my energy level has stayed high.

I'm having a blast! I can't wait to officially weigh in on Monday. I'm sure I'd be bummed if the scale doesn't move... but for now I'm excited.

I have to say~~I STRUGGLED to get 8 cups of water in the first few days... it was really hard! Now, I'm sitting here sipping the last of cup 8 for today and it's only 4pm. Since I spent the first several days with no room for anything else to drink, I now only want water(oh, and green tea most mornings!). I had bought juice when I planned on losing weight, but I'd rather eat my calories! I used to drink Pepsi like it was going out of style... I can honestly say I haven't missed it at all these past weeks(and it's still in the house as Hubby likes it).

LOVING Leslie Sansone! She gets me moving almost every day, and I'm hoping it will be every single day soon! I wish I had more time to be on here... mostly I spend my time working on my nutrition page. I enter everything to see how it fits before I eat it usually. I only usually check the daily chat thread.

Another bonus~I am going to bed earlier, rather than sit here until I'm wanting a snack again... so I'm getting some extra rest / sleep / reading time!

I feel great - I've been going to the gym 5 days each week, and spending time outside (shoveling snow, unfortunately!) the rest of the time. I have decided I actually like the gym - I used to dread going, and couldn't wait to get it over with. I've been taking my time there lately (when I have the time, that is), and actually enjoy listening to music and sweating! My problem is, I'm HUNGRY! Not all the time, but my appetite has definitely increased, and nothing seems to satisfy it. I need to watch the sugar, because I really do crave it, but otherwise, my stomach just rumbles away..

The scale has FINALLY started to move!!! Not a lot, but enough that I've dropped into the next "decade"...and it feels REALLY good. Nothing like a little progress to re-energize and re-motivate!

I've lost 2lbs so far which I am happy about. I am trying to concentrate more on how often I make time for myself, go to the gym and work on my attitude which in the past was self defeating. I feel myself changing and am optimistic about finally succeeding.

So far so good. I've lost 8 pounds in 4 weeks. I've realized I don't like running but I really like walking so that's what I'm sticking with. Clothes are starting to fit looser and my face doesn't look as bloated as it did around Christmas time.

Doing pretty good so far. I've fallen in love with the gym - something I never thought I'd stick with, but so far so good. I've lost 4 lbs total as of this morning, I feel more energetic, and much more positive. I still struggle some days with food cravings. Thankfully I have a very very supportive fiance who helps me through.

I'm plugging along. Moving slower than I thought I would, but I've realized I wasn't tracking everything right. I was guessing at some food weights/measurements and I was way off. I have a food scale now, that helps. I expect to have a real good week to come!

I am still getting used to all the great resources, but figuring things out little by little. I mostly concentrated on my Nutrition Tracking, which was an eye opener for me. I only lost 1.9 pounds last week, but I am happy with the loss. I know I need to exercise which will help with the process. I am starting to explore the SP resources for exercise. I just need motivation!! emoticon

LILMAHOGANY, I love Leslie Sansone workouts. I am doing the fast five miles. It takes over an hour to do, but it is challenging. She has a ton that don't take as long. I recomend them to anyone, young or old, at any level of fitness.

Here is my thing...I struggle in the afternoons. I feel hungry, even though I know I am not. I am eating ever 3 hours. All my kids are at school between 12 and 3:00. I am wondering if this is the reason. I am not lonely, and deffinately not bored, but I just want to eat. I am trying to figure that one out, and something to do instead. I think the key is getting out of the house where I feel the kitchen is calling my name. I will work through it.

Not seeing much improvement on the scale, I seem to gain and lose the same 3 pounds. But I am not letting it get me down. I am committed to being healthier. Food logging has really changed my eating habits. I think Sparkpeople have the best program I have ever seen for food logging. It keeps me honest and involved.

I fell down yesterday (not literally), didn't exercise at all. But I'm back up today and will make up the exercise time today and tomorrow, an extra 15 minutes each day. emoticon

I so did not realize how much this site has to offer me, now I am so excited to see what I can do with it. I want instant results, the weight came on over night so I should be able to lose it over night right? Okay so I know that is not gonna happen so I have made small goals for myself and I will celebrate them all as I achieve them. This week exercise all the the days I have scheduled and not make up any excuses as to why something else is more important then my health ;0)

I had a rough week last week. It couldn't be avoided and I accept that. This week I'm back on track. I reworked my program to only require exercise during the weekdays, which leaves me free to enjoy the weekend with my husband. But I'm requiring at least 30 days each weekday, so I'm actually asking more of myself.

I just got done playing Wii Fit for today and it sure is a workout! I was thinking about getting the game Just Dance for Wii but I might just save up for a kinect for xbox and get Dance Central and some fitness games for that.

To those who are disappointed to have not lost this week, please don't despair! You most likely won't lose every week, however, you will be able to celebrate other non-scale victories, such as being able to exercise a bit longer or noticing that your clothes fit looser.

You are all doing great, and I'm delighted with your success so far!

I don't have a wii, but I agree that the "Just Dance" looks like tons of fun. I'm considering getting a wii just for that. It looks like something I would love.

I have exactly 2 weeks completed today and have lost 5 pounds. I have been working out and feel my stamina has increased already. I am a bit bummed that I lost all 5 pounds right in the first 5 days and haven't lost since but I'm going to keep up with my healthy eating and working out and I'm sure the weight will start coming off soon!

Jumpinthruhoops I have the Biggest Loser workout for the Wii and it really kicks my butt. I'm almost 2 weeks in and I feel I'm doing great. Having a bit of a setback this week with being sick, but I will not let it get me down. I will push thru this and come out better in the end.

One month in, and although the scale is not reflecting a huge difference, I can feel and see that my bits and pieces are starting to shift around a bit. I'm still motivated, but the boredom is not far off. I don't have a gym membership, I know I wouldn't like that. I walk for 30 minutes at lunch (usually about 2 miles), and use Wii Fit Plus and Wii Active at home. I would like to purchase a new Wii game, but I'm not sure which one?

Okay, you've been at this for a few weeks. So I'd really like to know how you feel you're doing.

Do you have questions, suggestions for something you'd like to see on this team, give a shout out about things you've accomplished so far? Go for it! I'd love some feedback on how you're doing and how I can help you achieve your goals.

Let's do this together! emoticon
