They say walking for two minutes every hour is a huge help even. So I try to get up from my desk at work and take a quick walk around the building every hour. I'm sure people wonder why I'm always walking around, but it gives my mind a rest too from work and I feel more productive! Also, standing instead of sitting when possible... like in meetings or while on the phone.

I started my second new years resolution today. My first was to give up computer games. I've done great with that. My second is to not sit down at the computer (except briefly at the beginning of the day) until evening.

I like these ideas you guys have come up with. Climbing the stairs twice and doing situps when you hit the floor are too funny.

That reminds me... My daughter's gym teacher tells them to run in place every time there is a commercial break on tv. I confess that I'm not doing this, but my daughter sure does. The gym teacher also has them "train" for extended periods of jogging/running instead of just telling them to go run a mile. They slowly build up their endurance. I love this gym teacher!

Every time my grandson wants me to play legos or cars, I make myself do situps as soon as I hit the floor. He thinks its funny and joins in, lol

I do the staircase thing a lot too, though mostly when I am feeling chilled! I run up stairs, then down to the basement then back to the top floor again!

I've also been using stairs where possible instead of the elevator, and trying to park a little further away when I go to the mall or grocery store.

I have added more water to my diet, and I have given up using the vending machine at work!

Cutting out soda and walking more often. Standing instead of sitting, being more active in my free time (playing with the dog instead of watching TV) and cutting portions.

It's a little lame, but I go up and down the long staircase in my house twice whenever I need to use it. My kids and hubby have both looked at me a little funny when I've turned around at the top and gone back down, only to come back up again. My daughter keeps asking me what I forgot to get! It sounds goofy, but by the end of the day, I can feel it!

emoticon Great topic!

You're so right--the little things do add up. It's important to note that exercise doesn't have to be a daunting task. Research has proven that exercise can be broken up during the day and still have health benefits. It's also true that working out for two 30 min. segments during the day will burn more calories than working out for one 60 min. session.

One of my favorite ideas is making fitness fun. I like to dance around my living room when a commercial comes on with fun music. Pretty, no, but fun, definitely!

Anything that keeps my body in motion!

So I was thinking about the little things that can add up over the course of the day. I have decided to park in the BACK of the parking lot, and use the restroom UPSTAIRS instead of down the hall.

What are your ideas??
