Good attitude SROBERTS. And did you notice that you crossed the 1/4 to your goal mark? Thanks awesome. Keep up the great momentum.

I had my second weigh in on the new scale today, and I'm down to 258 - so 4 lbs down from last week. After a week I'm ok with it, and continuing my downward trend. I just have to remember it's just a tool, and the number doesn't really matter, except to keep seeing it go down!

I use the WII balance board as my scale, since I don't actually own a scale. It's within a pound or two of my doctor's scale, so I'm relatively happy with it. I think that all the numbers are just that though, NUMBERS. It doesn't matter what my scale says as long as my clothes are fitting better, I have more energy, and I'm not hungry all the time.

On the other hand, if the number on the scale jumped up 10 lbs, I admit, I would be frustrated and disappointed.

Scales are hard to know if they're accurate.
My Moms weighs different than my brothers.
It's off by like 10 lbs. I know mine
will change depending on how I stand on it.

I'm very happy with my scale. It's a Weight Watchers by Conair. I like it because you can program it for 4 different people. It shows your current weight, your BMI, body fat %, how much you lost since your last weigh in, how much you lost since you started and how many lbs til your goal. I find it accurate.

I'm in the same predicament the scale is accurate for my 2 year old and husband but once it gets to my end it's all haywire. Does anyone have a suggestion for a great scale?

TURTLEBEAR, that was priceless! How dense does she have to be? I mean really? Everyone couldn't believe how much they shrunk and that didn't make a light go off? That's amazing.

SRoberts, scales vary. I'm sure it's so frustrating when you thought you were in the 240's and are "back" in the 260's but you were right to reset your starting point. Probably you were in the 270's and now you're in the 260's but I feel your pain. but you're almost in the 250's which will be something to celebrate! Don't forget that you've lost 15 lbs!! And you're not huffing & puffing! And you're enjoying exercise! All fantastic achievements and great progress. Find another way to chart your progress. Are you taking your measurements? That way you can see how many inches you lose per month. Many people say that the number on the scale isn't that important. We need to realize that that is true in some respects.

Last week I did this medical study that's been going on since 1948 (I'm the third generation). Its results form the basis of most of the medical knowledge on cardiac health and strokes that doctors and the medical community use. Anyway, it was quite extensive, with tons of expensive equipment that you'd normally never see at your doctor's visit. But the one "simple" thing was a height measurement - the standard gizmo attached to the wall that lowers onto your head. Now I know I've shrunk a little as I've aged - I was 5'9" when I finished growing as an adult, but when I got measured in the summer of 2009 I was 5' 8.5" - typical of aging. So you can imagine my surprise when the woman tells me last week that I'm 5'7.5". Since I also got the latest of bone scans before that happened, I know I've suffered no loss of bone density or other things that can make you shrink dramatically. When I expressed my surprise that I could shrink that much in 18 months she said, "Yeah, it seems everybody I measure is shocked that they've shrunk." I said to myself, "WELL DUH!" If EVERYBODY is saying this, perhaps the person who mounted the gizmo didn't measure accurately. Perhaps the flooring has been changed out since it was originally mounted, or the cushioning under the carpet has compressed. Just because it's at a doctor's office doesn't mean it's infallible. Equipment needs to be maintained/adjusted no matter where it resides. I vote for YOUR scales!

That's crazy - I would expect the doctor's office to have the most accurate scales. But I would expect a brand new scale to be accurate too.

Hi,hope you don't mind me stepping in and adding my two cents worth to this topic of scales. I've been doing well on the weight lost or so I thought til I went to the doctor for a check-up. His scales say I'm 8lbs heavier. So I went out and bought new bathroom scales. The new scales are showing my weight to be the same as my old bathroom scales,go figure. Is it possible the doctor's scales need to be re-calibrated? Even the hospital digital scales showed me 10 lbs heavier just before my surgery in November. Weigh myself before going to hospital,(and we all know you fast before surgery),so where did 10lbs come from in a matter of 2 hours. emoticon

Thanks for letting me say my two cents worth. emoticon

I do feel a lot better! I have more energy, I can do stuff without huffing and puffing, and I look forward to exercising every day - even looking for ways to do a little more here and there. It's a world of difference in how I feel :) I wouldn't give up this new lifestyle for anything!

I wish there wasn't so much baggage attached to the numbers on that darn scale, but no matter how much I tell myself it's just a number, it still hurts!

I bet you feel a lot different since you started your program, with looser clothes and more energy. The scale is just a number - inside you "know" what you've done.

Keep your chin up. Concentrate on how many pounds you've lost and how much better you must be feeling! I never worry about my actual weight- I concentrate on the pounds and inches I am losing.

That has happened to me. I thought I had made an amazing amount of progress at one point, until my hubby found an elastic band under the scale and it went back up. It was a little disheartening, but made me even more focused on getting the weight down so I could be that excited for real.

I went back and adjusted my starting weight to reflect the 15 lbs I think I've lost so far, so at least I still see some progress on my bar. I'll just try to ignore that bigger number at the beginning. It's tough to have thought I was in the 240s and now I'm back in the 260s!

When I started I weighed 263, and over the last 8 weeks I had worked my way down to 248, and I was very proud. But my scale was not very accurate, and bounced around a lot, and if I stepped on it twice I'd get two different answers. So I went and got a new digital scale, and I weighed myself on it, and it came back 262 - no matter how many times I stepped on it! So the new accuracy is good, and I suppose I really weighed more back in January, but it's disheartening to see all my progress wiped away emoticon
