Good luck. I needed to do the same. Stay steady and determined. Its your life. You deserve it.

Had an A1C test. With oral meds I hit 6.5. 4 months ago I was 14.7. Good news bad new though. I am able to get some periodontal scaling done now. Long run its good, short term I will be using the straw to eat my meals.

Good luck to us all. I am taking the pills orally. Been diagnosed about 4 months ago with D2. It seems alot of time now is spent in diabetes management. May as well spend my time on something important-me. Hard to think that months ago I was free to do more of what I pleased without D2. I read once where big D will keep making it necessary to make health changes to your life. We are facing one of the challenges of our lives.

Diagnosed 9 months ago, I got real serious about trying to reverse my diabetes and lost 48 lbs the healthy hard way eating less watching and lowering carbs. and exercising. It didn't work now they tested my blood and said I'm not making any insulin that why the oral meds and life style changes didn't work. I started insulin 1 week ago and I'm scared out of my mind. Go figure, lifes not fair but life goes on and I'm still here trying 58 lbs left to lose and I'll deal with the insulin.

I am new to this forum. I just joined sparkpeople last week. I tested pre-daibetic from last October blood work but was back to normal earlier this year. At that time I had been watching what i eat, eating healthier, and attending an exercise class weekly as well as loads of walking. After about two months, I wasn't walking as much, eating habits bad, and missing exercise class often. My health has suffered; I can just feel it. My body has reflected those poor and sometimes unavoidable (due to financial troubles that made my ability to buy healthy food difficult and took my focus elsewhere) choices!

But I had heard about sparkpeople a few weeks ago when I had looked up Weight Watchers online. It's better here tha I thought! I am not diabetic thank God just yet--but don't want to get to that point. There is diabetes on both sides of my family as well as heart disease and high blood pressure. Conditions that can be reversed and alleviated at the very least! So here I am--and glad to be here!

Kim

You are more than likely suffering from hypoglycemia. Before they diagnose me as a diabetic, my sugar would drop constantly I knew what it was , and I would eat to get it up. It is a horrible feeling,I compare it to a horrible death. Besides the sweats. my skin would be clammy and I would have uncontrollable shakes. Talk to your docto emoticon r.

seeing the doc today for my diabetes check-up. Brought my A1c from 9.0 to 7.4. looking forward to seeing her face when she sees how much weight I lost. Still dealing with high morning blood sugars. My best has been 159 and my worst 194. Going to try a test and measure blood sugar between 2-3am. This will tell me if the problem is Dawn phenomen (if nl or high level) or Somogyi effect (rebound hyperglycemia) if level is low. i suspect Somogyi effect as I wake -up often around that time with night sweats. I used to think it was peri-menopause, but now I think I am hypoglycemic then. I'll keep you posted on my results.

I have been diabetic for about 30years. I took several kinds of meds. But I wasn't emoticon eating right. I depended on them to take care of it. Now I take two kinds of insulin . I have neuropathy and some eye problems. My advice is listen to the doctor, eat healthy and exercise. If my sugars are running high for awhile, and I get them to normal range, I find myself starving . My doctor said eat smaller meals and eat 5 to 6 a day,but since I sparks and eat my 3 meals and 2 snacks I am not hungry I usually don't eat my 1200 a day . It is hard to get them in.

Sorry to hear Dakota you are already on insulin. I may need another med to fine tune the metformin. My life is spent planning on what to eat for the most part. Keeping track of what you eat is a start to understand eating problems you may have been subjecting yourself. Sparkpeople was a very helpful tool to lose weight. Now I tailor it to eat a more sound diabetic diet.

Just started the challenge today. I have been on insulin since 1996. I have been trying to handle things on my own but can't seem to loose the weight. Jenny Craig worked for a while but then started gaining back the weight. I am thinking I need some support and guidance to help me along.

Not familar with metphoric. I have been prescribed metformin, for the last few months. Sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. I found out this May, and have been busy rededicating myself to nutrition, exercise, and taking the medicine. You can manage Type 2. It does consume some effort though. Its worth the effort.

Great to hear from all of you with the Big D2. Good luck on losing weight, taking meds, exercise, and using Sparkpeople trackers to help you with the fight.
My A1C was 14.7 about 4 months ago. With metformin prescription, 2 months later, I was still over 9. Hope to get near 7 so I can receive some deep teeth cleaning therapy. A lot of work involved in keeping all the balls in the air.
Good luck and I enjoy your postings!

Good morning Carol. I have been on Spark people for over 2 years. Was just diagnosed about 3 months ago with diabetes. I use the food tracker with the diabetic insert. So now I track both my calories and my diabetic diet daily requirements.Just another tool to help you. I find this helps me more than much of the advice I have heard. Good luck to you. I hope you are able to help yourself control and manage the Big D. Welcome to Sparkpeople.

Just think of it as one day at a time, dont get upset about what you cant eat but think of what you can Find a way to enjoy your food take smaller bites chew slowly have a love affair with each bite, and by the time you are finished eating you will have enjoyed it and are full Water is a big key for me I drink as soon as I get up in the morning and before all my meals and snacks. Keep your head up you can do this for you. emoticon

Portion control is my challenge. I eat healthy but I eat 4 times as much as I should of the healthy things I cook. And then there is the sweets challenge! I can also get very depressed when I think I can't have the food I want. Earlier this year I tried BistroMD meals and they were good but I couldn't stay away from eating extra all in the form of sweets. I ended up gaining 11 pounds and got so upset I just started eating whatever I wanted. I quit smoking 25 years ago and I quit drinking 20 years ago and I want to conquer overeating.

Don't think of it as "having to loss 70 lbs". Set small goals for yourself and allow yourself some rewards. As far as diabetes goes, losing 10% of your body weight can have a HUGE effect on your insulin effectiveness and thus blood sugars. The other thing to keep in mind is that 20-30 minutes of aerobic exercise improves your insulin effectiveness for 48 hrs.

I too am ultimately trying to loss 60 lbs, but I've broken it down into 10 lbs increments. I too am trying to get off my meds and avoid going on insulin (the big motivator to getting me moving).

You can do this, One step at a time. Start with something small like no soft drinks or no sweets and track what you eat everyday. That has been proven to be the most effective weight loss program.

Good luck!

I take it day by day. If I slip, I do not beat myself up. I go over what happened, the whole situation. Then I tell myself to try and not let it happen again. Learn from your mistakes. Then take it day by day. We can do this!

Its a tough one to work through. It has its own challenges. Some call it the Big D. The meds have helped me but my monitored readings still vary. My wife has been a big help. She went to a class with me with a nurse and dietician instructing us to more effectively cope. Use every help and resource you can. Good luck to you and your family. emoticon

Sherria: Glad to see you know where you are and where you need to go. I personally was diagnosed with high blood pressure and did get meds. The dietician turned me on to Sparkpeople and even though it has been painstaking to log my eating habits, I have done so for over 2 years. I have lost 55 pounds. That's the good news. I recently was diagnosed with diabetes. I have to tailor my eating habits even more. But now I just focus on different things but the calorie counting has shifted to more carbo counting. Good luck. Start today. This is the first day of the rest of your life. God brought you to it. God will bring you through it. emoticon

I went out for lunch today and viewed the menu. The 10 ounce hamburger or the club wrap with garlic fries would have been great. I chose the chopped salad. It took me longer to eat that salad than my friend who ate a mushroom burger.

I feel your pain. I have traveled a road similar to yours. I need to lose 60 pounds and more plus I need to become more active. After visiting an endocronologist I've been encourage to start anew in getting healthier and in better control of my diabetes. I have learned to take one day at a time or even one hour at a time. We are not perfect but we can use each misstep as a lesson to strive for perfection. Good luck in your journey to good health.

I've struggled with diabetes 2 for many years. Blood sugars have been all over the place because I ignored the gravity of not taking meds and insulin consistently. I've visited here many ties but I am now committed to losing weight and keeping my blood sugar as level as possible. Today is the first day of the rest of my life!

I too have PCOS and pre-diabetes. I do check my sugar on various occasions just to be certain it's not going to high. Even after a meal it doesn't go higher than 118. I have found that avoiding most of the super processed foods help. Unfortunately, the processed foods are what taste wonderful to me and has been my own demise! Hopefully with the support of everyone here we can all get better :)
