That's what I need to do is a fun run! I've been keeping a pretty consistent pace and I'm ok with that. Next week when I'm on vacation, I may do intervals and work on getting a bit faster, but it all depends on the weather. If it's too hot, forget it. I'll go swimming instead! Which I hope to do anyway.

Today it's a early morning meeting and then I'm going to get out for a walk before I have to go back in to work.

Enjoy the 1st day of July!

It's just good to be out there running, Beckyanne! I ran that 5K this weekend, had fun, and didn't even worry about speed! Day-to-day is good!

Good morning!

Another run with my son this morning. We don't go the same pace, but I'm glad he's getting out. The mornings have been perfect for running so far this week.

I don't have any 5k's planned in the near future. I'm just taking it day by day.

Enjoy your day! emoticon

Strangest thing happen last night. I came home from Run Club and, out of nowhere, my body was aching and I was running a slight fever. This morning I was feeling just as nasty. Right now, I'm still dealing with a little body aches but not as bad as last night! Very weird. I just stayed in bed, drank lots of liquids, and watched cooking shows and The Talk!
Yeah, I'm over it now!

It didn't help that we were late and needed to squeeze in where we could. I should've been a bit farther back. I'm sure if I learned to pace myself better, I would enjoy doing these races more. Something to work on.

A beautiful morning to get out for a run. Before it gets hot!

It's tough when you first start out fast. I have such a problem at the starting line. I will get off fast then settle in to a solid pace. I hate top get caught up in a pack. Within the first half mile, it will thin out. It's all about a good race plan and sticking to it.

I went for an easy run yesterday morning followed by mowing my mom's lawn and then mowing our front lawn. My legs last night were teling me they needed rest so today is a rest day! Besides, we have strong storms approaching and its going to be a pretty wet day.

Have a great Monday!

The storms ended before the start of the race. We made it there with only 2 min. to spare. They changed the route and so I started out way to fast again. I ended up taking 2 short walks to catch my breath. It wasn't my best time, but it earned me 1st in my age group! Very small turnout for this race this year. Not sure if the rain kept everyone away or what. Any way, I have work to do to get me back to where I was.

Beautiful day ahead and many things to do.

I'm concentrating on doing shorter runs now. when the time is right, I will increase them, but for now, I'm not going to over do it.

It's a bit cooler this morning plus there is a breeze. (Rain is headed our way again!). I will get a short run in this morning before it starts.

I pace myself...never worry about the speed...hydrate good...just a nice easy run never longer than 3 miles at a time. Soon as I work out this calf issue, I'm going to run short distances more ofter...maybe two miles every other day. Going to do a quick walk today.

MIRAGE-how do you manage to run in that humidity? I went for a run yesterday morning and thought I was gonna die. The air was so heavy and it made breathing difficult. I did make the mistake of not taking water with me on my run. I really didn't expect it to be that bad. I ended up running 2 miles, walking a mile and then running another mile.

This afternoon, while my son is resting, I will go out for a walk. The humidity should be down by then.

I'll be anxious to see what you find out MIRAGE!

Yesterday was extremely humid which brought on a headache. I ended up on the treadmill which wasn't that great. It was really hard to breathe in that humid air. (Very humid inside also)
I should've done it last night after the air was turned on.

Rain is in the forecast today, but I'm going to try and get out befor it comes. Right now we have fog and it's pretty gloomy.

We had rain yesterday so I made it a rest day. Getting on the treadmill is tough because it's not warm enough to turn the a/c on, but it's warm and a bit humid so you get over heated really fast. I have a fan that I turn on, but it's not that much help theses days.

It's foggy and gloomy this morning but no rain so I should be able to get outside this morning.

Talking about sore calves, mine still hurt from doing the elliptical last week. I guess I need to get on that thing more.

Have a nice Sunday!

I did the Rap River Run in New Port Richey, FL this morning! It was the first 5K since I did a practice 5K a couple of weeks ago. It was decent but now my best. Considering I've been on injury/illness sabbatical, I can't complain. BUT my calves are hurting! WTH? I stretch when I'm supposed to, have a passable warmup but this calf thing is starting to concern me!

The rain ended but came back over night. It's a gloomy start to the weekend. Sure hope it doesn't last. I'm lacking motivation at the moment. I need to dive back in. A lot of it has to do with the soreness of my legs. Along with the usual aches, my calves are still hurting from my elliptical workout. my goal is to run today. emoticon

I did a relay team 2 yrs. ago and thought maybe I would do another one next year. I did not do one this yr. I haven't been in a training mood much lately due to my aches and pains. I need to work on getting rid of them first. My mind wants to do it but my body says no!

We've got a lot of rain headed our way the next couple of days so it's looking to be inside workouts for sure.

The rain ended before the beginning of the race yesterday and midway the sun came out and heated things up. A few crashes at transition this year but overall it went well. Maybe next year I will do a relay team again.

I'm going out for a run this morning. I signed up for a 5k in 2 weeks. If my leg is doing ok I will run, if not I wont. My son wanted to do it and we usually race together so I figured I might as well.

I'm going to go dow to the lake for my run and to check out the Tri set up to see how things are going. DH is doing it tomorrow, but that lake in my opinion is nasty and I just can't get myself to do it. Maybe another relay team next year instead so I don't have to deal with the swin. We'll have to see. Storms are also in the forecast for tomorrow. emoticon Not good for the participants or the spectators watching.

Well, I'm realizing once again we are vulnerable! I've had a sinus situation since Monday, had a fever yesterday of 100.9, got that down, and my doc just prescribed a Augmentin pack which I start today. So, here's the golden question I asked him....Can I do my Triathlon on Sunday? He told me as long as I didn't have a fever, didn't feel like my body had been beat by a bag of quarters, don't push myself, and wasn't going to break any world records....then consider it! I'm going out to get my meds now!

emoticon MIRAGE!

I'm taking much needed rest days the next couple of days. My leg is just hurting too much to continue running (even walking) right now. I will get on my stationary bike today and see how that goes. my runs would be great right now if it wasn't for the issues I'm having. Not sure what direction to go in. I feel like it's my lower back that's causing the problems, yet I could be wrong. The dr. Is just going to suggest physical therapy which I've been to and have everything I need to do those exercises. I hate chiropractors but would give 1 more a try if he would just do the adjustment and be done! I don't want all of these goofy machines, etc. to do. I am going to schedule a massage next week in hopes that will help.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this weekend is nice and I can get out and do other activities instead of running or walking.

Yesterday, D came from work in Tampa, stopped in Safety Harbor, and knocked off 3 miles of cardio. I had run group there so I met her and went with her. Very cool, working it by Old Tampa Bay! Got her back to where she parked and ran back to Copperhead Ale House, where I met the rest of the club!

I didn't want to aggravate my calf but needed to get loose out there as I will do Dunedin Triathlon on Sunday. I'll be using it to train, improve my times especially Transition, and have support all the new Triathletes. This Tri has always been the one to do first! I love paying it forward!

I've been looking forward to being able to bike and swim again. Hopefully that will be coming soon. I told my DH we'd go for a ride on Friday to prepare him for the tri he's doing, but there's rain in the forecast the rest of the week. I can only go early morning so if it stays dry, I will go. Since school is out, the pool should be open next week, but I'm not sure if the temps will cooperate. It really hasn't been warm enough for a swim. Till then, I will do as much running as possible and then walk and get on my indoor bike. emoticon

Taking it easy this week after Sunday's Tri. Rolling out my calf, doin' Ibu, and applying cold to the area. It's the only soreness I have and that I can deal with. I am being reasonable and decided to not run this week. I will bike a bit and maybe hit a swim just to stay loose.

I believe that there are ways we can perform which will insure we can go for the longevity of it all!
There's a couple I have raced with over the last two years with me who set the bar for just that. She's 87 & he's 85! I always talk to him at races. Yesterday, we were in the same Triathlon swim wave. He relates what all of us should know. You maintain a healthy active lifestyle and be sensible about it. When I'm in competition, I listen to my body and perform accordingly. I focus on my personal goals and my race against myself. I learn something every day and that makes me better.

I just hope that I can keep going on and on. I will try! I think so many people think that as you get older you can't do the things you used to do or you shouldn't do them.

I missed out on so many things and now I'm making up for that! I have no intention of slowing down! emoticon

Good Luck MIRAGE! emoticon

Just remember, 65 is only a number! A lot of us got a later start in life than others, but it doesn't mean we can't do as well. We have determination! emoticon

No racing for me yet. The ribs are feeling much better so I should be able to start picking it up a little now. When I feel I can give it my all, I will sign up for a race. Until then, I will be working hard!

Have a great weekend! emoticon

This is crazy! Yesterday, I did Run for the Warriors. I ran it with my Team Hope for the Warriors Tampa! It was an emotional run and we knew why we were there. I forgot this was truly my last race in the 60-64 Age Group. I was totally in shock when they called my name out as AG winner! Yes, my last TWO races, I stood on the podium #1! No, it won't change as today I turned 65!

I can understand training in open water and wantig it warm. We'd never swim in cooler temps here without a wetsuit.

I did get out for a jog/walk yesterday morning and then took a walk last night around the lake. We've got rain in the forecast for the weekend so I'm not sure what my activities will be. It would be nice to get out on the bike again.

I can't believe how much harder it is to comprehend cold weather since I moved down to Tampa Bay. Cold for me is in the 60s and below! Since I train in Open Water, Water temps are of concern to me and I'm always happy when it's 76 degrees on up! In the past few years we run Half Marathons in high 40s and 50s. Crazy how I've become.

We missed the storms, but was it ever humid. Good thing it was breezy which also kept the bugs away. This week is a bit quieter so I'm hoping to be able to stick to my schedule.

I went out yesterday and did a 5 mile run/walk. It's getting better now, but still a ways to go. A shorter distance today and then a couple of rest days (unless the weather cooperates and I get out for a walk). Once I get thru this month, I should be able to set up a better exercise plan. Too many things going on at work right now.

Ran that training 5K slow and easy just to the threshold of feeling my hamstring react. It's a bit tight this morning but think I'll rest it for the week. I'll focus on bike and swimming.

Taking it easy is the best thing to do MIRAGE! emoticon

I've been taking it pretty easy myself. I'm doing an every other day thing except for the next 2 days. I'm taking a rest on Fri/Sat. because we have things going on. I will start strong again on Sunday and hopefully have a normal week next week. The week of Memorial Day is going to be a busy week also, but I'm hoping after that week, work will be back to reg. hrs. Until I'm feeling no pain or very little pain, I'm not scheduling any 5k races. It's not so much the running that bothers the ribs, but the heavier breathing. I've been doing a much slower pace with my runs to avoid that.

Have a great day! The week is half over! emoticon

On Monday, I swam a half mile training swim with a nice easy pace, focusing on form and breathing. On Tuesday evening, I followed it with a .5 mile swim in the Gulf with a 2-3 foot chop. I worked the incoming waves, got out leaving strong and confident, and ran a quarter mile in the sand, to the starting point. This evening I'm doing a 5K light run, just to see how my hamstring is doing. Good times with minimal pain.

Ran a 5K on Saturday, did well, but with 200 yds of the finish, felt my hamstring sing out to me so I didn't finish strong as I wanted. It was better to rein back than to cause any more damage. Iced down the rest of the afternoon and will chill for the next couple of days. I'll do a light run on Wednesday to test it out.

I'm amazed at all of the run groups that people have there. We have 1 and it's not a consistant group. Plus their runs are usually 10 plus miles. I'd love to get instructions on how to train properly.

I'm still taking it easy after my fall on Tues. I went to Urgent Care on Friday to get checked out. No broken ribs, but bruised/inflamed. Dr. said it could take up to a couple of months before it feels better. I'm beginning to believe that. Yesterday was pretty much a lay around day to try and feel better. We'll see if it helped today when I go out for my walk.

Have a great day!

Beckyanne, You are not alone!

I've run with race pace runners and have done fine as I pick the pace I want. I also will run with those why will do a pace I feel good with. But I never pickup a pace during a race which I'm not comfy with.It will limit me in my full potential.

During this training run, I ran with my teammate as we were instructed by our run coach to run a certain pace. The pace was snail slow and it was to learn to run the pace in anticipation of ladder drills, running to amplify solid negative splits.

Crazy but sometime you gotta rein yourself in for good r4eason.

I can't keep pace with someone else especially when they are running slower than you. I was behind 2 girls during my first 5k race who where running slower than I, and it actually tired me out more. Once I was able to pass them and get up to where I was used to being, I felt a lot better.

Trained with my regular Wed group, Safety Harbor Athletic Club last night. Did a 5K with an Outspokin Teammate at a slow pace. It is challenging to hold one's self to a slow pace! It pays off later when you're doing speed training and negative splits! Always learning!

I decided on a trail run yesterday a.m. Should've stuck to the road. Tripped and took a dandy fall. Pretty sore this morning. Today it will be just a walk which is too bad because it's not raining this morning and it looks pretty wet the rest of the week.

NEREA,
Love your determination. Just be safe and keep a pace that is comfortable and safe to you! That is so important. I might suggest interval running. That is a run/walk ratio that allows you to recover during a run and enable you to accomplish the distance.
I am a Triathlete and I have noticed some of my Elite teammates doing it during their final leg of a Tri. I am actually training right now as an experiment to see if I can achieve better timing. It's also fun to play with your run. Just be safe. Stay strong and focused!

Very warm yesterday. I managed a 5k distance, but not a great run. I started out way too fast so I decided to do a little interval training instead. I never got a long run in last week. Better luck this week even though there's rain in the forecast almost everyday.

I have recently begun running, it has been a struggle for me because I have breathing problems so at first I could run for no more than 100 metres before feeling breathless. I have kept on exercising, so now I can run for 1 km and have intervals of walking and running for a total of 6-7 km. My goal is completing a 5k, sooner or later I will! emoticon

Its been a busy weekend so far. Ran a different area yesterday to try and avoid all of the traffic on the roads. Plus there was a 5k down by the lake that I didnt feel like doing. I will head down to the lake this morning. It should be pretty quiet down there!

Thanks MIRAGE!

Yesterday was one of those tough runs that everyone talks about. For me it was my body telling me I needed a rest from running. Today I'm going to walk and Friday will be my rest day this week. Once the nice weather is more consistent, it will be much easier to come up with a good schedule. Right now with having nice weather, you want to get out and enjoy it because you don't know when it might end.

Beckyanne,

I'm so glad you share with us as it shows smart responsible practices and decisions which only extend our running lives! No matter whether we first start running or have been running for years, we are always learning. Furthermore, as runners, we can relate to similar experiences!

Thank you for sharing and I encourage other teammates to do the same!
Have fun with your run...

Perfect weekend!

I went out for a run yesterday not knowing which direction I was going and how far I was going to run. I ended up running 7.23 miles and taking a route that I've wanted to take for quite a while. The weather was perfect. I knew when to take walking breaks so I wouldn't cause any issues with my leg. The weather looks great for the week ahead and I hope to get out often.

Because of a busy schedule, it may be another treadmill day!
