So far the freezing drizzle has held off. Keeping my fingers crossed that I will be able to get out for a nice run this morning. It looks like our temps are going to nose dive after Christmas so I need to take advantage of the above freezing temps. Now.

When I first started on this "running thing," I never thought about the education I would get! Presently, I'm in the process of getting my cert as a RRCA Running Coach! My special interest is in supporting entry level training like this Spark Program. I will never forget my first days in this program and how I felt at my first 5K!

After 4 years of educated running and doing over 55 5K races alone, I feel I can help others find the joy of the run!

More importantly, I'm focused on proper training and nutrition, both critical in truly enjoying the run. Running helped rid my weight and made me healthier. It also helps me maintain my goal weight I reached 3.5 years ago. I need to pass it on.

Simply put, look at your body as your run vehicle! It needs to be properly maintained. Hydrate daily with H2O enriched with vitamins & electrolytes! I use 64 oz a day.

Then I look at my payload! When I was at "maximum density," I couldn't run a block! I need to insure I am "carrying the lightest payload" possible! THAT'S how I look at my weight now! Payload! CLEAN FUEL!

Diving in Full Bore. Signed up for my first 5k, Calhoun's New Years Day 5K part of Knoxville Track Club Grand Prix Points Series. Just think a few months ago I was vegetating away and eating my way to an early grave and today, I have a super bright Future of health and fitness.

I love this Team, it has given me training, encouragement and the push I needed to get to the Next Level on my journey.

Thanks, keep up the encouragement!! Stick with me here I have just a couple of weeks left to finish my Training. I am on Week 3 Day 2 coming up.

I had a very challenging run/walk yesterday. The ground is very wet and muddy. The frost is out of the ground. Made for a bit of a challenge on the trail, but it was fun because it was so mild outside. I feel like I got a real good workout. Today will be an easy day followed by a rest day tomorrow.

I had a really nice run yesterday. I wasn't loving the weather although it was close to 50 degrees. It was dense fog. It's really depressing outside. One more day of nice weather and then the temps are suppose to drop. On the plus side, we should see some sunshine. I'll get out for a walk/jog this morning while it's still nice. Tomorrow will be an indoor biking day and Wed. is a rest day.

Tis the season, Beckyanne! D & I went to holiday breakfast this morning with my Marathon Coach & her hubby (who is an UltraMarathoner!) The four of us SPLIT a Smores muffin this morning! THAT's where our healthy lifestyle has taken us!
Back in the dark days, I would have killed one muffin with an enormous breakfast! Thank goodness! It's all about portion control!

Workouts are going well! Very mild morning but we also have dense fog. We haven't seen sunshine in over a week and there isn't any in the near future.

Plan today is to go for a run and then do my baking. (Then I should probably run some more after I do the sampling!)

The weather has been so gloomy this week. We were suppose to have sunshine, but that has since changed. no sun in the forecast all week. It also means the temps. won't get as warm as they were suppose to.

I got out on the trail yesterday, but that was short lived. Very icey. Couldn't wait to get back on pavement. I guess I'll have to try and get down by the lake this morning. DS is studying for finals this week so I don't want to bother him with my noisy workout machines.

I went down to the lake yesterday and ran 4 miles straight! That's pretty good for me right now. I guess my run walks out here have been helping. The temps. have been in the 30's with a light wind.

Today I will be getting on the treadmill though. Sleet and freezing drizzle overnight has made some of the roads, etc slippery. It wouldn't be bad if I could wait till later, but I can't. Mild weather all week so it looks good for getting outside all week.

I'm looking at temps in the 30's and I'm happy! Hopefully very little wind to go along with those temps. We have had temps in the 60's this time of year, but not the last few. It's been way below normal. I'd love the warmer weather, but I still enjoy my seasons. Each season is like a fresh start for me. (even Winter) It's just the extreme temps that get to me.

I had a meeting yesterday morning so ended up on the treadmill. Today I plan on getting outside. Tomorrow is a rest day/shopping day.

Ran 3.5 miles last light with a Triathlon Teammate (who also just happens to be a Harlequin Romance Author!) last night at Safety Harbor Run Club! We talked the entire run at 10 minute pace and partied with the rest of the club later!

The weather was gorgeous at 6:00pm by the Bay. I found out how much I loved my new Brooks Transcends! It was like running on pillows, the most comfy shoe I've run in to date!

I'm jealous of all of the mild temps. I've been doing too many treadmill workouts. It's 21 degrees this morning so I should be able to get outside finally. The temps were warmer yesterday morning but the wind chill was in the single digits but it's not fun running in that cold wind. Can't wait till Spring!

Just finished a 5 mile walk/jog. Beautiful day in West Texas!

Treadmill workout yesterday, but today I was able to get out for a walk. (a little running) The roads were icey so I decided to just walk most of the way. Temp is 19 degrees right now with a light wind. It always feels good to get out when it's cold like this. Very refreshing.
Legs are much better. I think the fact that I've pushed up my workouts, but yet being careful not to over due it is really helping me. I'm feeling a bit more positive about next season.

MIRAGE-We Minnesotan's are tough. It was 54 this morning when I went out on my run. I saw a guy wearing shorts, no shirt rollerblading, another girl in a tank shirt and shorts running, and bikers along with short sleeves, etc. It was balmy out.
Unfortunately it's not going to last. Snow is in the forecast tonight and tomorrow. Anywhere from 1-5 inches expected along with blowing and drifting snow. By Thanksgiving, it should only climb into the 20's.

But, for now, I got out for a nice run! emoticon

After 4 days of treadmill workouts, I got out for 3 1/4 mile run. Temp. 10 with a wind chill of 2! Tried out my new winter running tights! The only thing I shouldn't have done was run on the trail. Saw another person running it this morning and thought why not? Why not? It's uneven and frozen and under the snow I didn't know if there was ice. Ended up turning around and getting back on the road which was a little frosty, but I could deal with that.

Close to 40 tomorrow with possible rain. I will get out unless it's freezing rain or its pouring. It's a little too cold to be running outside in the rain.

Went to Run Club last night, tested out my new Transcends, had a cautious safe run, and really loved the ride. I actually had to get used to them but after I finished that 5K, I was rockin' it! (Oh the temp was around 56 degrees, which made for an easy run!)

We've got a windchill of 2 degrees! 60 would almost be too balmy for running here!

I've been on the treadmill all this week. I will say my legs at the end of the day and first thing in the morning aren't feeling too bad. I'm taking it nice and easy. I'm waiting for the air temp. to be in the teens or 20's before I get outside. This time of year is when I wish I worked mornings instead of afternoons.

The weekend is getting closer. Temps in the 30's! Unfortunately freezing rain is also in the forecast.

Elaine-You are doing great, but I wouldn't push it. Trust me, you don't want to end up with an injury that will set you back. I'm not sure why you want to increase your speed at this point, but you will get faster with time.

Hello,

I had a question. I am running my 5K already at the end of my week 4 training, should I be concentrating on getting faster or running longer. I still have week 5 to train for but I am already there running 40 minutes 3.85 miles not with ease but it went pretty well yesterday. Thank you for your input.

A great day yesterday!

5 mile run. (I did take about a 5 min. in walk between mile 4 and 5) I got all of my work done at home. We are ready for that Winter whatever it might be storm.

MIRAGE-let me guess. 60's maybe upper 50's.

We're looking at snow Sunday night into Monday. emoticon

On a happier note, I ran 5 miles yesterday without having to walk at all. It was a slower pace than I used to do but I will take it anyway.

Rest day today. (From a workout). I will be doing a different kind of workout cleaning up the outside here and at my moms house.

"Cold front" coming through Tampa Bay this weekend! I'm doing the Honeymoon Island10K with long compression pants tomorrow then wearing a wetsuit on the swim leg of the TriRock Clearwater Triathlon on Sunday! I'm too embarrassed to say what temps we'll be having here in the Tampa Bay area!

Yesterday was a walking day! It was really windy and a bit cold! At first I thought I'd do a run walk, but after the first 1/4 mile run, I realized I was overdressed for running. I was fine for walking. In fact, I could've had something on my face when I walked into the wind.

Today is going to be the last mild/dry day this week so of course I will get out and enjoy.

I've been able to get out and enjoy the mild temps. we've been having. Can't say the runs are that great. I did have a decent run yesterday. Managed 5 miles with just a couple of short walks in between. It looks like I may be running in snow soon. emoticon

The weather is changing here. The temps. are falling and the winds are cold. Starting to do some layering which I'm not fond of. I always feel like I can't move as well with the extra clothes on. I need to invest in some arm warmers.

I also have learned something from each of my races. I'm not going to be doing any for awhile right now, but I'm not giving up. I will get out and run and walk when I need too. Physical therapy is going well. Haven't really seen any results yet but it hasn't been that long. I'm staying positive that next year will be a much better year for running.

I learn something at every race I do! There's nothing better than to take wisdom from every challenge you accept! I still remember what I learned from the very first time I did this program in 2011 AND each of the three times I've done it since then! You can do the same thing! I've been doing trail runs this week and I'm really enjoying them. So much easier on the legs to be able to run on a softer surface. I'm planning on hitting the bike path though sometime this weekend.

My goal for today is to get out for a run. I'm not looking at distance. I haven't been out in over a week. It's only in the 30's right now so it's going to be a cold one. I'm done running 5k's now so I'm going to focus on slower sorter distances so that next Spring I'll be ready to tackle those races again.

In spite of my allergies acting up, I ran a steady 5K with my Run Group last night! It was the first run in over a month and a half that I ran with no pain. I also insured that I stretched after. I'm running easier tonight with my other Run Club tonight, Gonna do it with walk run intervals just to be safe.

Looks like my 5k isn't going to happen this weekend. A group of us went out for dinner sat. Night and all but 2 came down with some sort of illness. Health department is thinking norovirus. It is nasty. Feeling a bit better right now, but I guess we will be contagious for days after this. Not sure when I will feel up to running this week. Pretty much stinks. I had plans for this week. Oh well. Maybe it's the break I needed.

Beautiful weather this weekend!

Although I spent the majority of it inside working, I did manage to get a nice trail run in Saturday morning. I need to do those more often. My legs handle them much better. If my orientation doesn't last all day today, I plan on going home and trying to get out for another run today.

Good Morning!

PT went well yesterday. She gave me some stretching exercises to do a couple times a day. She wants me to do these after I run. It was very interesting and informative.

I get alot of good advice from so many, but sometimes it's nice to get a plan catered just for me. Plus I'm taught the proper way of doing things.

She and my Dr. have strongly suggested I take yoga so that will be in my plans for the Winter. I'm determined to get past this.

Another long day at work!

I discussed my issues with my dr. And he wasn't sure what was going on. He seems to think that it's from my job. Standing for long periods of time will cause your muscles to be tight. Although I walk around during the day, it's probably not enough. It's just going to be nice to be told how to properly treat what's going on instead of self diagnosing.

It's good to hear that I'm not alone with knee issues. emoticon

Beckyanne, I totally get it. Yesterday, I wore a knee brace on my left knee and a compression sleeve on my right calf. Looked like I just got off the crash wagon....but I finished. I've been dealing with this for a month now. Now all I can do is embrace recovery. I'm rolling my calf out, taking anti-inflamatories, icing, and making safe decisions. Stay strong.

2 mile run, 1 mile walk and another 2 mile run yesterday. It was a beautiful day.

I start physical therapy tomorrow. Hopefully it'll do the trick.

I went out for a walk yesterday and was walking up the street. I must have turned wrong because I pulled a muscle again! This time it's the other leg. Now both legs stink! I did stretching before heading out too. I'm getting very frustrated. I've got a couple of 5k's that I was going to run yet this year, but I think I will just do the one. I'm doing it only because I can get my son out to do it with me. The rest of the year, I'm going to focus on going back to square one. It's just that it's so hard to go backwards after all of this time.

I see my Dr. tomorrow and I'm going to ask him to refer me to physical therapy. Hopefully they can point me in the right direction.

It's a rainy morning. Shouldn't be a total washout though.

We have a running group here also that I belong to. I'm more of a run by myself person, but we share alot of info.

Today is the local HS Cross Country meet so I'm going to be headed there to cheer on our team.
I really miss attending these meets.

I went to Dunedin Run Club last night even though I wasn't running due to my calf. Sat with my Tri training partner, Rob, as he just did a bike ride. He's doing the Augusta Half Ironman next week. We talked about training in the future. then when everyone returned from their run, I spent time discussing training with a Tri Sis of mine, Margie! We discussed bike training. Most excellent discuusions!

That's why I encourage finding run groups to join. It's great to have support & resources. I do suggest visiting a few and, hopefully, finding a fun, friendly, helpful group. Here in the Tampa Bay area, all levels or Runners & Triathletes share info and support each other. This is the best community I've ever been a part of. I hope you are fortunate to find the same!
