This is crazy! Yesterday, I did Run for the Warriors. I ran it with my Team Hope for the Warriors Tampa! It was an emotional run and we knew why we were there. I forgot this was truly my last race in the 60-64 Age Group. I was totally in shock when they called my name out as AG winner! Yes, my last TWO races, I stood on the podium #1! No, it won't change as today I turned 65!

I can understand training in open water and wantig it warm. We'd never swim in cooler temps here without a wetsuit.

I did get out for a jog/walk yesterday morning and then took a walk last night around the lake. We've got rain in the forecast for the weekend so I'm not sure what my activities will be. It would be nice to get out on the bike again.

I can't believe how much harder it is to comprehend cold weather since I moved down to Tampa Bay. Cold for me is in the 60s and below! Since I train in Open Water, Water temps are of concern to me and I'm always happy when it's 76 degrees on up! In the past few years we run Half Marathons in high 40s and 50s. Crazy how I've become.

Sorry MIRAGE! emoticon

I've been on the treadmill the last couple of days. After my meeting today, I'm going to get outside. It's just been cold and windy. Not my kind of running weather right now.

Hoping for sunny, warm days ahead! emoticon emoticon

We missed the storms, but was it ever humid. Good thing it was breezy which also kept the bugs away. This week is a bit quieter so I'm hoping to be able to stick to my schedule.

I went out yesterday and did a 5 mile run/walk. It's getting better now, but still a ways to go. A shorter distance today and then a couple of rest days (unless the weather cooperates and I get out for a walk). Once I get thru this month, I should be able to set up a better exercise plan. Too many things going on at work right now.

Ran that training 5K slow and easy just to the threshold of feeling my hamstring react. It's a bit tight this morning but think I'll rest it for the week. I'll focus on bike and swimming.

Taking it easy is the best thing to do MIRAGE! emoticon

I've been taking it pretty easy myself. I'm doing an every other day thing except for the next 2 days. I'm taking a rest on Fri/Sat. because we have things going on. I will start strong again on Sunday and hopefully have a normal week next week. The week of Memorial Day is going to be a busy week also, but I'm hoping after that week, work will be back to reg. hrs. Until I'm feeling no pain or very little pain, I'm not scheduling any 5k races. It's not so much the running that bothers the ribs, but the heavier breathing. I've been doing a much slower pace with my runs to avoid that.

Have a great day! The week is half over! emoticon

On Monday, I swam a half mile training swim with a nice easy pace, focusing on form and breathing. On Tuesday evening, I followed it with a .5 mile swim in the Gulf with a 2-3 foot chop. I worked the incoming waves, got out leaving strong and confident, and ran a quarter mile in the sand, to the starting point. This evening I'm doing a 5K light run, just to see how my hamstring is doing. Good times with minimal pain.

Ran a 5K on Saturday, did well, but with 200 yds of the finish, felt my hamstring sing out to me so I didn't finish strong as I wanted. It was better to rein back than to cause any more damage. Iced down the rest of the afternoon and will chill for the next couple of days. I'll do a light run on Wednesday to test it out.

I'm amazed at all of the run groups that people have there. We have 1 and it's not a consistant group. Plus their runs are usually 10 plus miles. I'd love to get instructions on how to train properly.

I'm still taking it easy after my fall on Tues. I went to Urgent Care on Friday to get checked out. No broken ribs, but bruised/inflamed. Dr. said it could take up to a couple of months before it feels better. I'm beginning to believe that. Yesterday was pretty much a lay around day to try and feel better. We'll see if it helped today when I go out for my walk.

Have a great day!

Beckyanne, You are not alone!

I've run with race pace runners and have done fine as I pick the pace I want. I also will run with those why will do a pace I feel good with. But I never pickup a pace during a race which I'm not comfy with.It will limit me in my full potential.

During this training run, I ran with my teammate as we were instructed by our run coach to run a certain pace. The pace was snail slow and it was to learn to run the pace in anticipation of ladder drills, running to amplify solid negative splits.

Crazy but sometime you gotta rein yourself in for good r4eason.

I can't keep pace with someone else especially when they are running slower than you. I was behind 2 girls during my first 5k race who where running slower than I, and it actually tired me out more. Once I was able to pass them and get up to where I was used to being, I felt a lot better.

Trained with my regular Wed group, Safety Harbor Athletic Club last night. Did a 5K with an Outspokin Teammate at a slow pace. It is challenging to hold one's self to a slow pace! It pays off later when you're doing speed training and negative splits! Always learning!

I decided on a trail run yesterday a.m. Should've stuck to the road. Tripped and took a dandy fall. Pretty sore this morning. Today it will be just a walk which is too bad because it's not raining this morning and it looks pretty wet the rest of the week.

NEREA,
Love your determination. Just be safe and keep a pace that is comfortable and safe to you! That is so important. I might suggest interval running. That is a run/walk ratio that allows you to recover during a run and enable you to accomplish the distance.
I am a Triathlete and I have noticed some of my Elite teammates doing it during their final leg of a Tri. I am actually training right now as an experiment to see if I can achieve better timing. It's also fun to play with your run. Just be safe. Stay strong and focused!

Very warm yesterday. I managed a 5k distance, but not a great run. I started out way too fast so I decided to do a little interval training instead. I never got a long run in last week. Better luck this week even though there's rain in the forecast almost everyday.

I have recently begun running, it has been a struggle for me because I have breathing problems so at first I could run for no more than 100 metres before feeling breathless. I have kept on exercising, so now I can run for 1 km and have intervals of walking and running for a total of 6-7 km. My goal is completing a 5k, sooner or later I will! emoticon

Its been a busy weekend so far. Ran a different area yesterday to try and avoid all of the traffic on the roads. Plus there was a 5k down by the lake that I didnt feel like doing. I will head down to the lake this morning. It should be pretty quiet down there!

Thanks MIRAGE!

Yesterday was one of those tough runs that everyone talks about. For me it was my body telling me I needed a rest from running. Today I'm going to walk and Friday will be my rest day this week. Once the nice weather is more consistent, it will be much easier to come up with a good schedule. Right now with having nice weather, you want to get out and enjoy it because you don't know when it might end.

Beckyanne,

I'm so glad you share with us as it shows smart responsible practices and decisions which only extend our running lives! No matter whether we first start running or have been running for years, we are always learning. Furthermore, as runners, we can relate to similar experiences!

Thank you for sharing and I encourage other teammates to do the same!
Have fun with your run...

Perfect weekend!

I went out for a run yesterday not knowing which direction I was going and how far I was going to run. I ended up running 7.23 miles and taking a route that I've wanted to take for quite a while. The weather was perfect. I knew when to take walking breaks so I wouldn't cause any issues with my leg. The weather looks great for the week ahead and I hope to get out often.

The rain held off yesterday until around dinner time. That meant a day to get out. I did a trail run, walk. Broke in my new trail shoes. Today is an 8 hr work day so it's going to be a well deserved rest day. After all of the yard work on Sat., my legs are screaming "break"! Besides, it's going to be a cold, windy and rainy day today. The perfect day for a nap! I will think of napping while I'm working!

I had a very good running week last week. This week will be more of a challenge because of rain and cooler, windy weather. It won't be the 60's and 70's we've been enjoying this week.

My plan is to do a couple of speed workouts. I've been seeing a 30 20 10 workout that I think I can do and if it's bad weather, it should be easy to do on the treadmill.

I'm sure you do get used to the heat and humidity. Our temps. vary so much and our warmer climate doesn't last all that long so it really gets to be a challenge to get used to it. We are so enjoying the 70 degree temps.! Next week, back into the low to mid 50's. emoticon

Interesting! I remember when we first started "walking" in November 2010. D had started in August and told me how humid and hot it was.
I got sick in May with pneumonia but started training again 6 weeks later. I enjoyed the weather, became used to it, and, since then, enjoy the heat and humidity.
Of course, I get cold now when the temp is 70! Lots of runners down here will complain about the heat. I guess it's a matter of what your body gets acclimated to.

Yesterday morning was near perfect for running. I got down to the lake to find the water calm! That hasn't happened in a long time. Finally no wind! Just a light breeze. It made for a nice run. In fact when I was done I wanted to do more walking, but had to come home and get ready for work. It's days like these I regret finding a 5 day a week job!

I was hoping for a bike ride tonight but there's a softball get together so I will have to settle for a walk this morning.

MIRAGE-my SIL ad BIL were in FL over the weekend and ran with the Lakeland running club. She said it was so humid and it was a tough run! We usually don't see that weather till July or August.

You met the challenge, Beckyanne!

Running with family and friends is the best! I had to laugh as 70s is chilly to me now that I live in Florida! Funny how we all adjust to our home climates accordingly.

The race was tough for me but I finished it! It was hot! High was in the 70's with clear skies! I think it gave me a much needed push to work a bit harder. I enjoyed doing this race with my family though and look forward to more in the future.

8k race this afternoon! Forecast is temps in the 60's, windy (wind gusts of around 31 mph and we're up on the ridge so it will be at least that)' a 30% chance of rain. It's going to be a challenge and I will do the best that I can. Went and picked up packets yesterday and drove the route. I forgot about the hills! Oh well, I will finish it!

MIRAGE-Sorry to hear that. Take care!

I went out for a run last night and it was awful. I was so out of breath after the 1st mile. I stopped and then walked awhile, then started up again to finish mile 2 and then complete mile 3. It was so tough for me. Not sure why. I had 2 really good runs at the beginning of the week. I hate it when I go out for a run and I feel like its the first time I've ever run. I would think that after running for 3 yrs. that this wouldn't happen for such a short distance. Frustrating! emoticon

I got in another run yesterday morning and then walked with my son last night. Got in about 8 miles total with running and walking. Today is a non running day and I got my yoga DVD's in the mail yesterday, so part of my workout will be trying those out. Along with getting on the trainer. It's raining and very cold and windy outside anyway.

After 3 days off from running and did a nice 5 miles yesterday. The weather wasn't the best, but
I knew I needed to get out. It looks like this week is going to be quite wet. Hopefully there will be some dry time in there. I want to do 1 more 5 miles mid week so that I'm ready for Sunday.

Thanks MIRAGE, I'll have to try that.

We have a really nice track, but it is only open certain hrs. and right now HS track is going on. I've been challenging my oldest son which is fun. He's just started running and so he is a bit slow yet. I'm no speed demon, but I'm faster than he is and his goal is to be faster which at 24 yrs. old and a male, he should be. He will get there with time.

1 week from tomorrow is our first race of the season and the weather looks to be wet and cool. Just like the last 2 yrs. The wet we can do without and the wind can stay away too. We'll keep our fingers crossed that things change and the weather improves, but April showers.......

Have a great Sat.!

I can relate to the sporadic training which can occur. I try to compensate with any type of cardio I can do in the house but it still doesn't get it for me. So, when I do it get out that first day, here's my plan.

At my Wednesday morning team track workout, we will do a slower than jog pace for about 800yds. then we always do a series of warn ups below. I have to admit, it's easier when you are on a standard 400 meter track
.
1. High Knees - Pick your knees up high..25m, turn and do...
2. Butt Kicks - Kick your heels back so that you are almost kicking your butt..25m, turn and do...
3. Skip High - Skip for height..25m, turn and do...
4. Skip Long - Skip for distance..25m, turn and do...
5. Monster Walk - Hold your arms straight out in front of you with palms down. As you walk, kick up to your palm.

Then I will go into a very slow 100m jog, a bit faster than a speed walk...do a jog for 300m and repeat 3 times.
Then repeat the process but step up the pace. That's my warm up.

I follow that with a 2 mile run at a pace 2-3 minutes slower than race pace. It's all about reconditioning and building back endurance.

It's going to be a nice, warm day today! I'm headed down to the lake this morning for a nice run. (at least I hope so) I will use tomorrow as a cross training day. I just wish our weather would stay a little more consistant so I didn't feel the need to push myself so hard on the few nice days!

Last night was suppose to be a walk but ended up a walk/run. My leg felt good which surprised me. I really hesitated to do any running, but it was fine. I'm not going to push it though. I don't want to aggravate it. It's going to be another mild week so I need to be careful.

Have a great day!

Thanks MIRAGE!

The one thing I like about these longer distances is the fact that their not really fast races like 5k's. So you don't have that feeling that you need to run fast to keep up.

Because of weather conditions, I had to do a treadmill workout this morning. Things are getting a bit better. I was able to jog a good 4 miles with no pain. Too much more and the pain would've come back because I felt the tightness in my leg. We'll see how it goes when I get to do an outdoor run on Tues. Tomorrow I work all day so I'm going to be careful and get on the elliptical for a bit in the morning and then maybe a walk after work.

I signed up for the Fools Five Road race in a couple of weeks. It's a 5 mile run and all proceeds go to Cancer research, etc. It's a pretty big race and it's a cause that means alot to me. We were going to just watch it this year, but my son who is new to running wanted to do it and convinced up to join he and his girlfriend. It's hard to turn down family!

Life was going fine until Tues. Went to do a treadmill walk/jog and when I started the jog part, got a sharp pain in my upper front right leg. I did get to walk a bit more on the treadmill, but that was it. Now I'm back to square one again. It should've been a trainer day, but my work schedule was so off this week, that I thought I would do any easy walk/jog on the treadmill. Now I'm kicking myself in the butt. I took a little time off and was able to do a very slow walk/jog this morning. Tomorrow is my rest day so I will see how things go on Sunday. Plus to top it off, my Fitbit died while working out. There goes my steps! I've had too many issues with the darn thing, I don't know why I even bother with it.

Glad it's Friday and the sun is shining. It's cold and there's snow on the ground, but it's bright outside! emoticon

I will keep working with to try and get used to them. They are very comfy and I'm ok with them on the treadmill. I'll be doing a few workouts on the treadmill this week. Snow and freezing rain are again in the forecast!

I run with Transcends as well. I started with them in December. The comfort is there for me. I did have to get used to them but now, it's a smooth speedy ride!

I ran 5 miles yesterday in my new shoes and I seemed to run much better. Although they weren't the type of shoes that were recommended for me after my gait test, I seem to do well with them. For some reason, I run slower and tend to drag my feet in my Transcends. Not sure if it's because they are a bit heavier or if I just need to change the way I run. I'm not giving up on them (they were pricey shoes), I will switch them up a bit and see what happens.

It's been a pretty good week. Today I'm hoping to get a good run in and then tomorrow is my rest day. All the 5k''s are beginning so Sat. runs around the lake won't take place until later in the day. Unfortunately, those 5k's have gone a little overboard. Everyone wants to hold a 5k race to raise money, but they are always at the same place. People are really getting tired of them so the attendance is way down.

Have a great 1st day of Spring! emoticon

I took advantage of the nice weather and got outside for my runs. Now the cold has returned. Not sure if I'll get outside today or just do an indoor workout. It's not so much the cold as it is the cold wind. We havent had a calm day in a couple of weeks. Too bad we dont get these breezes when it's really hot!

Still loving this Spring weather. Mid 60's yesterday. Upper 50's today. Have seen alot of people in shorts. Lots of bikes, roller blades and runners and walkers. The only snow that's left is the piles and places that don't see sun. Even the dogs are loving the warm weather walks!

emoticon MIRAGE!

I ran 6 plus miles yesterday! emoticon I haven't run that distance in quite awhile. We've had stronger winds and I did walk a short distance in between. Spring time is always windy here! Today instead of getting on the bike trainer, I will go for a walk. The streets are too sandy to take the road bike out right now.

Gotta enjoy the beautiful weather! emoticon

Beckyanne, hope the weather stays on the Spring track. Being outdoors is energizing.

I like the treadmill now then even though the weather is usually good here. Sometimes my body needs a less impactful run. In fact, that is the plan today and it is a bonus not to have to worry about sun protection.

Make it an awesome weekend.

emoticon Friday!

Warmer temps arrive today! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I will be able to put the treadmill up for the year now!

Have a great day!

One more day of extremely cold weather and then it should start to warm up in time for the weekend. I can't wait! Just hope things don't change. I have a 3 day weekend ahead and I hope to accomplish much!

That happens so much. I was sort of headed in that direction before I had leg issues. Now, my thoughts are much different. I run because I enjoy it. I'm not out to win a race. If I place in my AG, it's a bonus. Too many times we jump into this running full force and push ourselves too hard. It really takes the enjoyment out of running. I do want to do the best that I can, but not if it means limping around in pain because of a knee injury or something.

Too many people join this program and decide to do this plan every day! They get out there and focus on speed during that run interval. They don't hydrate enough. They still eat badly! They expect the run will burn the junk they continue to eat They do everything wrong which just brings them to injury! THEN I win my bet!

Hold to the plan! Patience! Hydration, fueling clean, warming up properly, cooling down, and POST cardio stretching! Here's an essential read!

emoticon MIRAGE!

Today is a bike trainer day. The temps are warmer outside so I may just get out for a walk also.
