Wet day ahead! I'm hoping to see some sunshine this afternoon. Yesterday ended up being a rest day because it rained. I got a lot of work inside done so it was good! Keeping my fingers crossed for a run some time today.

Another great run with my son yesterday! I'm seeing improvements which really makes me happy. Today is a non run day. Plus the weather isn't so hot. It's cold and windy. I've had enough windy runs lately! emoticon

I had a great run yesterday! I love Spring when everything is coming alive again! The crab apple trees are in full bloom and they smell wonderful! Everything is so green. I even stopped to take a picture of a duck that was sitting in a hollow part of a tree!

We were able to get out for a short run yesterday morning. It was going to be an easy run, but my son decided to change that! I did really well keeping up with him so it was a really good run! Today I will run by myself at my pace!

2 days off from running. I just ached. It wasn't suppose to rain this morning so I figured I could get my Sunday run in. Well, it's raining and now the forecast is for rain today! I'm hoping it's not a total wash out and I can get my run in. emoticon

Yesterday was pretty much a wasted day. I didn't accomplish anything.

Today I'm heading down to the lake for my run. It looks like most of the day is going to be dry.

Have a nice Wednesday!

I took my son and his girlfriend out for a run yesterday. His girlfriend mostly walked, but my son was able to run the distance with me. It was a nice easy pace which I probably could've kept going, but it was their first time out so I didn't want to push it. We ended up with 2.27 miles. Since I have the time right now, I'm trying to get them active in hopes they will keep it up. Today my plan is to do some strength training. I'm pretty sore from all of the yard work we did over the weekend so I really need a rest from running. Besides, it's raining today. Good excuse!

Have a great day!

5 mile run on Friday, rest day on Saturday and another nice run (I hope) today. Saturday was a rest day from running, but I got quite a bit of exercise in doing yard work. I'm just hoping I'm not too sore to run later this morning. The weather is so nice. Low 80's and breezy and sunny. My kind of weather!

It's been windy and warm. I went out for a run yesterday morning with my son, but it turned into a walk because his leg was hurting. That was just what I needed! I've been running daily and I needed a non run day. I'm trying to get into running less days but more miles per run. I've been stuck on the same distance for awhile now. I suggested to my son that we go running out by our house on the trail and see if the softer surface helps him. I know it always helped me.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Despite the high winds yesterday, I got in a nice run. It was challenging at times. There were large white caps on the lake. I was determined! The rest of the week should be much better. In fact, by tomorrow, it should be shorts weather again! Can't wait!

Julia-take care!

Ok, we have had enough with this wind already! It would be a different story if it was a warm wind, but it's right cold! Yes, I'm getting used to running in it, but I would love to just get out for an enjoyable run and not one that I have to fight thru the wind!

This coming up week I will be getting back on track with everything! I'm now unemployed and will have plenty of time! It will be nice to be able to prepare meals again. I won't be unemployed for long though as I will need to find another job but the break will be nice.

Have a great weekend!

I'm so sorry to hear about your spill, Julia. I assume you've already seen a specialist on your ACLs. No matter, I would revisit just to insure no further damage has occured. Wishing the best.

I took a hard spill on a concrete floor Monday and I have been babying my bruises all week. I am most worried about my knees as both ACLs are ready to go. The knees have been swollen and Tuesday night I was sure one had gone, but the swelling is going down and full range of motion is coming back. Time to keep chipping away at the weight so I can keep my knees as long as possible!

Started out walking yesterday, but ended up making it a run/walk instead. It was cold and windier than I thought so I wanted to get it done sooner. Glad I did because it started to rain shortly after I got back home. This weather is going to drive me nuts. So much rain/snow in the forecast the rest of the week into next week. emoticon

emoticon Monty!

I'm also learning (slowly) to dress a bit lighter. I can run so much better without the extra clothing (or at least I think I can)

We went out for a run last night which seemed tough. It was windy again! This time it was a cold wind. One day we're wearing t-shirts and capris/shorts and the next day we've got layers, gloves and headbands! Geesh! We can't catch a break here!

We've got a rain/snow mix headed our way sometime today so I'm planning on getting out for a walk this morning while the sun is shining.

Have a great day!

I ran this "lil' race in New Orleans and the Start Temp was about 59. I normally wear a long sleeve tech shirt under my Team Race Singlet. This time I decided to run without as I've been know to get warm early in the race. I learned! It was a great 10K and the most refreshing run in a while. I even ran with a small back pack as I was the mule, carrying our essentials. Great day in my true hometown!

Things didn't go quite as planned yesterday. Got to our race late. Had to park quite a ways away which meant we had to run to the start. A nice warm up, but a little more than I would've liked. I always like to get there, use the porta potty and get warmed up. Plus my mouth was really dry and I could've used some water. The race started out well, until we hit the wind. At times it was horrible. A lot windier than expected. At least it was warm. Finished at a slower time than expected, but felt good about it anyway. Better luck next year!

61 degrees and sunny with a light wind for today's 8k. I think if the race would've been yesterday, I would've definitely backed out! It was so cold with 49 mph wind gusts. Although it will feel windier up there, it will be like every other year I think.

Have a great Sunday!

Thanks MIRAGE! I always get nervous with these runs! I just need to relax and just do my best and enjoy the run!

Forecast so far for Sunday is Sunny, 59 degrees and a South wind. Should be great conditions as long as the wind speed doesn't pick up too much. We're up on the ridge in farm country so it tends to be very windy up there! emoticon

Another rainy and windy day today. We had thunderstorms last night. Much better than a week ago when we had 12 inches of snow. That snow is long gone, but the weather man still likes to throw snow chances in the forecast.

I'm hoping today doesn't turn into a treadmill run day.

After receiving about 10-12 inches of snow the other day, the temps have warmed up and it is just about gone! The one positive thing about March snowfalls! Yesterday was a treadmill run and this weekend will be outdoor runs. A short one today and hopefully a long run tomorrow. We now have some rain in the forecast which will take care of any remaining snow.

Have a great day!

The snow arrived earlier than forecast and it's still going strong. Just wondering what we will wake up to in the morning. (That's if I even get to sleep). It looks like a morning treadmill run on Thursday.

The thermometer said 52 last night, but it felt much colder on my run. It felt more like 30's. The breeze was very cold. I was going for just 3, but managed 4 miles. One more run tonight before the storm hits on Wed. My workout on Wed. is probably going to involve a shovel and boots instead of running shoes! Praying the track moves South and that it's just a rain event, but it's March and we're known for that last big snowfall!

Have a great day!

Sienna-that is totally ok. Do you have a running store near you? It's going to be your 1st 5k. I wouldn't get too stressed out about it. If you have to do a run/walk, that's ok. If you have to mostly walk, that's ok. Everything will come together before you know it. I have never dealt with plantar fasciitis so I'm not sure what I can say to help. I'm sure someone here can give you some advice.

Good luck!

I need some positive reinforcement. I finished the 5K Your Way walk/jog challenge, although I took seven weeks rather than five. I had a really hard time with the first day of this challenge. I had to increase my walk times and decrease the run times towards the end. I'm also having trouble with my feet - my plantar fasciitis is acting up. Grr. It's so incredibly frustrating. I signed up for a 5K thinking...I have more than three months to train, I should be okay, some people run a 5K with hardly any training. Now the race is fast approaching in four weeks and I'm worried it was a bad idea to sign up at all. I haven't even been able to start running outside yet because I'm having issues finding good shoes for that and I know it's different outside compared with a treadmill. Sorry for the negativity but I'm feeling defeated...(and the heading says this is the place to vent)

Accept - then act. Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it. - Eckhart Tolle

I did an easy treadmill run yesterday morning. Today we woke up to snow! I'm hoping that we'll be able to get out later today for a run, but it depends on the weather. We're suppose to have rain mixed in today and it's breezy and not very warm. Tomorrow looks a bit better though!

Have a great weekend!

Despite the onset of a cold or just a sinus problem, I hopped on the treadmill this morning. It's been storming and pouring rain which made it impossible to get outside.

Thanks Monty! I do really need to change it up a bit though. This week isn't going to be good to me though. We have rain and snow in the forecast all week. We even have a Wind Watch for tonight and tomorrow! emoticon We've never had that before! Maybe go out for a run in that tomorrow as long as I run with the wind! Then have someone come and pick me up when I'm done! emoticon

Yesterday ended up a rest day. I listened to my body. I was tired, my legs were sore. Today I'm feeling better, but I'm going to make it an easy run. i love the fact that I can now get a decent run in after work since the time change.

Have a great day!

Stuck! The first thing you do is check your shoes. Ask yourself how many miles are on them. If they're cool, check your mileage. Are you embracing recovery or working too many miles. Stay off your legs for a couple of days, see if that helps, if not see a Orthopaedic Doctor.

Better safe than sorry.

I had a great run yesterday! It was just a great day all around. It was warm and sunny. Today we've got chances of showers today. Its suppose to be my longer run today, but we will see.

We are definitely into Spring! It got into the low 70's yesterday! I ran with my son after work. T-shirt and capris! So much nicer than wearing layers! Today is a bit cooler but it should warm back up the rest of the week! Great running weather!

It will be another quick treadmill run this morning. I would love to push myself outside after work, but I can't guarantee I would do it so I get on the treadmill.

I ended up having 2 rest days! The sun is shining and we should see 50's today. Feeling much better about running today. Felt a bit off yesterday plus it was cold and gloomy.

IT band issues stink. Hope it feels better.

Rest day today. I did 15 miles on the bike trainer yesterday and then hopped on the treadmill for a mile. Definitely not ready for any Tri's in the near future! This weekend begins our warm up and I'm looking forward to good outdoor runs. We may be running in shorts next week!

Have a great Friday!

I've been a lurker for a while. Just wanted to say Hi. Ran a 5k this past weekend and irritated my IT band. No pain now but trying to ease back into it. I was ready to attempt a run outside again and then bam! Snow! Not ready for that just yet!

It is definitely feeling like winter again! There are a couple of snow chances the rest of the week. Next week it looks like we will be back to Spring. Unfortunately I won't be able to take advantage of it cuz I will be working full days every day. Hopefully I will be able to squeeze in a couple evening runs before it gets dark. Can't wait to Spring forward!

6 mile run yesterday! started out with my son doing some hills and then he had to go and meet up with some friends. At that point I had only ran about 2.5 miles and I was looking for a couple more. Headed down to the lake and ran another 3.5 miles. The hills were tough. I felt like I was running in slow motion! We have a bit of work to do to get back to where we were last year for sure. We'll get there!

Have a great Sunday!

Yesterday ended up being on the treadmill. It was windy and temps only in the 20's. Today is starting out with blue skies and mild temps. I'm confident now that we'll see those 50 degree temps today! emoticon

I just found a 5k race that's in May and it's at Valley Fair! (MN theme park). You run thru the park and the price includes spending the day in the park. Sounds like a lot of fun! Now to see what the family thinks!

Have a great Sat. everyone!

emoticon Monty!

I'm looking to get out for a run this morning. It will be a shorter run. My plans are to enjoy the Spring weather tomorrow and do a longer run. Saturdays are typically my rest days but right now I need to enjoy the nice weather when ever I can. So far this week I've only been on the treadmill once and that was a short run followed by changing and heading outside to finish up. Plans are to keep that going!

Have a great Friday and weekend! emoticon

Last night's Club Run was a revelation! The Club Leader is one of our best Race Directors in Tampa Bay. He is also a close friend and mentor to me. He caught up to me on the run. I looked at my Garmin and told him to go ahead as his pace was faster than mine. He said he was going to run with me.
We talked about my upcoming Trail Run and asked how it was going. Then we talked about what not to do in bringing the race together. We went out a mile, walked about 50 yards then started running again. At about 1.75 miles we turned and came back. About 3 miles in, we walked again, then stepped it up to finish 3.5 miles.
When we finished, I looked at my pace. I discovered I recaptured a pace I didn't think I would ever see again. This was 3 days after I had done my 15K, and feeling no pain. I was really happy to see I had taken my Heart Rate into the high range of my Key Target Zone 1.
Bottom Line? "I'm still standin'!"

I ended up down by the lake yesterday morning. It was so nice to get outside again despite it being cooler and damp. I really didn't warm up until about half way thru my run, but it was worth it. Im starting to enjoy my outdoor runs again. Today is a rest day. We have some really nice weather headed our way this weekend and I'm planning on getting out and enjoying it. It's going to be shorts weather on Sat.

I started out on the treadmill yesterday. I was cold and tired. As I'm running, I'm looking outside and seeing that the wind is calm and it's not raining or snowing. I hit 2 miles, stopped, changed into dryer and warmer clothes and went outside. I managed another 3 slow miles. It really felt good. It wasn't as cold as I thought. Today I'm going to get out again for a run/walk. Tomorrow will be my rest day.

Have a great day!

I finally got out for a run yesterday. It was a family run minus 1 son. It was a lot of fun. The fresh air feels so good! We're going to try and get out again today while the weather is still nice. Trying to get into a habit of outside running!

Monty-I read an article a yr or 2 ago about that. It usually works, but I've also had the headache go away from the run only to return afterwards worse than before the run. I think it depends on what type of headache you have. This time it got better as I ran, but returned when I finished.

Today will be a treadmill day because of the very breezy conditions outside. We've got wind advisories out and could see up to 50 mph wind gusts. I'm not up to tackling those today. Will wait till tomorrow when it won't be quite as bad. emoticon

No matter that I'm Team Leader, (and major running enabler) when we switched to a Challenge, I embraced it, somewhat modified it to my training, and am being consistent daily. I've done this at least ten times in the last few years for various reasons. I've discovered better ways to train, used intervals and played with ratios, and I've also focused on form. The bottom line is whether you've never done a 5K or run a minimum of 3 times a week, this Challenge rocks for all.
Most importantly, have fun with your run!

Good morning! emoticon It's a cold one at that! It should remain cold thru Saturday. Then we could see some more snow. We are suppose to have wind chills in the minus 20's on Sat. which makes me glad I didn't sign up for that 5k. Those temps are similar to the temps a couple of years ago. Way too cold for me. In stead I will hop on my treadmill!

Have a great day!

We had a really nice run yesterday. The temps were perfect. A little on the windy side, but we planned to route out so we didn't have to do long runs into the wind. The sun was out which made it feel really warm. Today is another story. Snow, wind and cold! That will pretty much be the story most of the week. Should see a warm up this weekend again. We're getting close to the time where we should see those warm ups more than the cold.

Treadmill today!

Have a great Monday!

An outdoor run with my son is planned for this morning. We've got rain, snow and blowing snow with near blizzard conditions headed our way later today and tonight. So far so good with the plan. Next week a back to normal work week finally after months of going in early. I should be able to get some good workouts in again!

MIRAGE-Yes you do! emoticon

Today is my treadmill run. Just saw an add for a Cheesecake run. Too bad it's not close to where I live! I would definitely run for a slice of Cheesecake Factory Cheesecake! emoticon

I'm remaining on track, but eating will be a struggle this weekend so I will have to work hard on exercising. It's time to start planning out some of my races again. I would like to avoid the same old, but my son is new to these races and wants me to do them.

Have a great Friday! emoticon

I'm focused on doing my Best Dame Race Half as a training run. It's safer as I just came out of an illness and I would probably enjoy the view anyway! I'm just looking for a comfy pace. I truly haven't trained for it but knocked out a Half in November and had fun with that one. I'm just going to be careful.
Maybe it's a 'cause a teammate told me at Run Club last night her place is on the race course. She's bringing her sofa out and making Mimosas for all who wish to partake. Gotta support my Teammate!

We got our snow yesterday! The bank closed early so I was able to come home and relax before I jumped on the bike trainer. Everyone else had been home since before noon.

It's still snowing but very lightly. It's very pretty out there and I will watch it while on the treadmill this morning. (That's after I go and shovel my moms driveway!)

Have a great day!

emoticon on the run! 12 min. pace is really good!

Yesterday couldn't have been much more perfect for a run. Upper 40's, light breeze and sun shine! The bike path was full of walkers, runners, and even some bikers! And yes, there were runners wearing shorts! It wasn't my best run, but I blame that on the fact that I haven't had a rest day and my calves are sore from the elliptical workout I did on Thursday. It just felt great to get outside. Today is still mild, but its a little wet out. We've had a light drizzle going on. Next comes the big snowfall we may get on Tuesday. emoticon Then the cold returns. I will enjoy the next couple of days. emoticon

Have a great day! emoticon

Finished my week 4 of the training program with the 40 minute run. I slowed down twice but did not stop this time. I also used a few mantras this time to keep pushing. Overall it ended up a 12 minute mile pace. Feeling good! -MHP

I am so glad it's Friday! It's been a long week! It looks like it may be a messy weekend. There's also the potential for a major snow storm next week. Not ready for that, but we really haven't had much in the way of snow. Keeping my fingers crossed that it goes South! emoticon

Have a great weekend! emoticon

Welcome, Miranda!

Pace is important when you start off. Conditioning and Strengthening is huge when you start off or have been away from running due to injury or illness. Take your speed down a notch and set your goal for 15 minutes then go from there. Don't worry about speed.
