Good call, Beckyanne. Since I rid myself of all my extra insulation, my hands are always ice cold!

I put my cold weather running clothes on and headed outside yesterday and yes, it felt like 12 out there. No wind though. We have to do what we have to do in these temps. I almost headed for the treadmill, but that's going to be my friend next week I'm afraid. We've got some Arctic air headed our way so the high temps will only be in the low teens at most.

There is a 5k coming up next weekend that I did last yr. in the extreme cold. I was feeling guilty for not doing it this yr., but now with that cold returning, I'm not feeling guilty anymore. Last yr. it was a terrible run. The roads were icey and the wind chill was well below zero. (plus you run around the lakes which is even colder!) I ended up with a migraine type headache the rest of the day. I'm assuming it was from the cold, then going into the lodge and sweating, before heading back out into the cold to walk to my car. Plus, since I've last all of my weight, I don't handle the cold as well and my fingers go numb. It takes forever for them to warm up when I'm out.

I see the temps north of us and I can't complain about the cold 50 degree temps that keep me shivering! I used to wear shorts in this weather when I had 100 pounds of extra insulation! Now, I start shaking at 65 degrees!

BECKYANNE, you and everyone running in those cold temps keep me motivated to get out there!

It's 12 balmy degrees outside this morning! I'm not sure if I'll head outdoors or downstairs. To be determined when it gets light out.

So last night I did another short run, with a goal of negative splits! I wanted to see how much I could push it two miles into a run! I pulled a negative differential of 2 full minutes. That pleased me and determined my game plan for the two 5K runs I'm responsible for in my Chilly Willy Duathlon Relay on Sunday! Tonight, it's a light run at Run Club just to stay loose!

Last night I just did 2 miles to stay loose as I will run Wednesday and Thursday evenings as well. I won't run hard, just a slow steady pace. I'm doing a Duathlon Relay on Sunday and want to be ready for the run portions. And yes, the weather will be in the 50s during the evening. It's all good.

All I can say is I'm glad I don't live in New England!

I'm headed outside this morning. I'm hoping it's not too icey. Tomorrow is going to be a rest day for me as I have to work 9 hrs.

I'm hitting my goals of exercising daily except for those long work days.

After injuries, recovery, & returning to routine, I'm determined to stay true to my run training! I can't stand to lose my conditioning and endurance to inactivity. I realize these bumps in the road will come. These are the times we must persevere and overcome.

I'm happy that I've done just that over the last two weeks! February is going to be a very busy month for me with a Duathlon Relay, two major race challenges, (Best Damn Race 10K-5K & Gasparilla Distance Classic 15K-8K) and a "Drunken Cupid 5K" on Valentine's Day! If I add in my run training, I will have done some serious mileage for Feb! I'll be focused on the journey not the speed. I know I'll just get stronger. Positive waves!

We've got snow this morning. I'll have to wait and see how it looks when it gets light out. Temps. are in the upper 20's and I think we have light winds so I'm hoping the snow is light.

Great job, Beckyanne! At yesterday's race, I was doing some pace watching myself! I watch kids run as they are more natural than adults. One thing that killed me was the bursts of energy they have. I'll hit this in my race report. I know I overpronate, not as bad as I used to when I started out a heel striking horror! But during a race, I love the distraction!

The run turned into just a long walk with my DH on Sat. The weather turned out beautiful and I wanted to do something with him. I will run today. Lots of runners passed us and it was tempting. It's fun though to watch all of the different styles of running. To watch how some have perfect strides and make it look so easy and others who seem to over work their arms and who's strides are a little awkward. I hope mine are in between.

I find that if I run more frequently, I run much better. If I don't run for 2 or more days, I tend to feel sluggish when I do get out. I don't need to do long distance ea. time, but just doing some form of running helps. I'm hoping it's going to pay off this summer.

Sat. is usually a rest day for me, but I have to watch the weather so I will be running today and then shoveling and walking tomorrow.

Went to my Dunedin Run Club last night and did a 5K at a decent pace. Cooled down and stretched total legs. This morning I feel great. That's the sign that I;m doing things right. So, I'm ready to do a fun Belleair Sunset 5K by the Gulf on Saturday evening! The need to run frequently is motivated by the fact that I don't want to lose my conditioning and endurance.

So, after being reminded what can happen when you stop run training for illness & injury, I ran two miles at a decent training pace, cooled down properly, then stretched afterward!
emoticon
Last night, I went to North Pinellas Tribe in Tarpon Springs to run with friends I hadn't trained with in a while. I was surprised to find my run partner, Jen, there! We were so happy, we went out together and had the best reunion run!
emoticon
She had been busy as her son is a state ranked high school wrestler and supports him at tournaments. Her husband is a Triathlon Teammate and training partner of mine. They are also our besties!
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
We went through out regular routine insuring we cooled down properly, and stretched after! We're also running together tonight as she leads Dunedin Run Club!
emoticon
The good of all this is appreciating my weekly run routine! It only took me a week to get my body run conditioned again after a three week layoff!

Thanks MIRAGE!

I try to stay positive. Some days are challenging, and I have to tell myself that I can do it many times throughout my run. It has made a big difference to get out there and change it up a bit with different routes. Not having to run on the treadmill has been heaven!

Yesterday was a great day! It really felt like Spring. I went out for a run, not exactly sure how far or what route I'd take. I ended up taking a route that I haven't ran in a long time. It really made it much more enjoyable. Plus it wasn't flat so I was challenged.

Today will be an easier day and tomorrow is my rest day.

Yesterday was a non running day so I got out for a 5 mile walk instead. It was hard to not do a little jogging in there, but my leg has been bothering me and I know I need to take it easy. It's only Jan. and I won't have anything coming up till March or April which is plenty of time to get back to where I was.

Speed is not an iss ue for me. I know with time and patience it will come back. I realize that I pushed myself too hard to fast when I started out and now I'm paying the price. Competing challenges me to keep going, but I don't have to come out on top. If it happens, it's just a bonus. I want to be able to enjoy exercising for a long time so I need to take care of myself now.

I did the Program in one shot yesterday. Tonight, I ran with my run club. I started my Garmin and refused to look at pace. I ran comfortably. Because I knew the mileage, when I got to 1.5M, I checked how I felt then decided to complete 2 miles out, knowing I would return 2 miles. Keeping comfy, I completed 4 miles at a comfortable pace.
I stretched afterwards and felt more confident about Saturday's Challenge ( 10K followed by a 5K)
You see I'm not consumed by speed. I'm doing the run legs of a Duathlon on Feb 1 then another 10K/5K challenge a week after. The speed will come. After this weekend, I will do a few careful speed drills to see how my body responds.
I am embracing patience! I know what it's like if I'm not careful and start pushing the speed. I aggravate my meniscus or tear a calf, I'm down AGAIN!
I hope some of this makes sense. All I'm saying is it's better to be safe in training! Have fun with your run!

MIRAGE-you've got a good plan there. That's something I need to do. I'm so off lately and it definitely affects the work out. Plus it's hard on the legs. The plan for the weekend is to do some rearranging and put the trainer up. I've been using the stationary bike, but it's old and you can't adjust the tension right. I brought it upstairs last night and biked 9 miles while I had the TV on. Worked out well.

I had an early morning meeting this morning which went longer than expected so it threw my morning off. Ended up on the TM again! I wanted to get outside this morning, but because the roads are a bit slippery in spots and it's colder, I need to do a longer distance to really make it worth while especially when I'm trying to drop 10 lbs. If my son is available after work, I'll have him come out with me then. I don't like to go out in the dark by myself.

Have a great day!

Once again, I've been ill. I have the St Pete Beach Classic Challenge this Saturday! I'm doing a 10K first followed by a 5K, using it as a training exercise and not concerned about the speed.
Because I've been ill, I am going through this program (slightly interval modified) for the 5th time! It's better to ease back, let my body get used to the distance gradually, and then embrace the distances on race day.
I appreciate and believe in this program after doing it each time I'm away from running for more that two weeks. I can also stay related to what my Teammates here are doing!

Hope you feel better.

Oh well, I will just leave as is. Main thing is that I've done it.
Today was recovery day and I went to the gym for an intro to all the fancy, new machines so I can build up some strength! I think I'll be feeling that tomorrow. Lol

I hope you feel better soon MIRAGE!

Today should be the last brutal day for awhile. Although it won't be anything near balmy, teens aren't too bad. Plus later next week we're looking to be in the upper 20's. A heat wave! emoticon

I ended up on the stationary bike yesterday. Boring!! Today I will get back on the TM and tomorrow is my rest day! I've stuck with the plan this week and feel really good about it. I just need to be careful this weekend. I screw up can send me back. We have the bank Xmas party on Saturday. emoticon

I've come down with what I will say is a head cold since Tuesday. Please forgive me if I'm a bit slow in replying to you all!
Rock steady through the program, fuel clean, and embrace recovery days with Strength Training. You might want to try some of the yoga exercises for runners too!

No workout on Sunday, but I did manage to og in my calories. I was a bit under my calorie range. Better than being over. At least it's making me think before I shove food into my mouth.

Treadmill run/walk tomorrow. (or should I say, today seeing as it's after midnight.)

Good Morning!

New Year's was very quiet. Today we'll take down all of the Xmas decor.

I don't make New Years resolutions, but starting Sunday, I am going to start logging everything I eat and get a handle on the calories I'm consuming. Along with my exercise plan, I should finally start to see results.

The cold has returned! I will be spending more time indoors working out. Hopefully it won't last long this time.

Only a few more days of the year and then we're on to a new one. My goal is to make the New Year a better year in all aspects of my life.

Treadmill workout this morning. (Sat.) Sunday's workout depends on the conditions. We had much melting on Sat., but overnight temps are going to get into the teens which means it will be icey outside in the morning. So it may be another indoor workout. Next weekend, we'll set the trainer up and bring the bike in.

I got back on track yesterday with a 5 mile run in the morning and much better food choices. I even skipped the free pizza lunch at work and opted for a salad at home. We've got snow outside so I'm going to head down to the treadmill for a short workout and then it's off shopping for me!

Have a wonderful Sat.

After 2 days off from running and too many sweets, I'm back at it today. I'm always reminded during these times that my body can't tolerate bad eating, etc. any more. So today I'm hoping for an outdoor run and then some healthy eating before I head back to work.

Mud run this morning! No rain or more importantly, no Snow! They say it's coming and I guess I'll be ok with a little on Xmas Eve and Day, but afterwards, I want Spring!

I'm tired of the goodies. I'm craving healthy food! A very good thing!

Have a great Monday!

So far the freezing drizzle has held off. Keeping my fingers crossed that I will be able to get out for a nice run this morning. It looks like our temps are going to nose dive after Christmas so I need to take advantage of the above freezing temps. Now.

When I first started on this "running thing," I never thought about the education I would get! Presently, I'm in the process of getting my cert as a RRCA Running Coach! My special interest is in supporting entry level training like this Spark Program. I will never forget my first days in this program and how I felt at my first 5K!
emoticon
After 4 years of educated running and doing over 55 5K races alone, I feel I can help others find the joy of the run!
emoticon
More importantly, I'm focused on proper training and nutrition, both critical in truly enjoying the run. Running helped rid my weight and made me healthier. It also helps me maintain my goal weight I reached 3.5 years ago. I need to pass it on.
emoticon
Simply put, look at your body as your run vehicle! It needs to be properly maintained. Hydrate daily with H2O enriched with vitamins & electrolytes! I use 64 oz a day.
emoticon
Then I look at my payload! When I was at "maximum density," I couldn't run a block! I need to insure I am "carrying the lightest payload" possible! THAT'S how I look at my weight now! Payload! CLEAN FUEL!
emoticon
I will continue to share my "secrets of success." They might apply to you as well. I invite every runner to do the same. We are always learning on the journey! Rock your run!
emoticon

Diving in Full Bore. Signed up for my first 5k, Calhoun's New Years Day 5K part of Knoxville Track Club Grand Prix Points Series. Just think a few months ago I was vegetating away and eating my way to an early grave and today, I have a super bright Future of health and fitness.

I love this Team, it has given me training, encouragement and the push I needed to get to the Next Level on my journey.

Thanks, keep up the encouragement!! Stick with me here I have just a couple of weeks left to finish my Training. I am on Week 3 Day 2 coming up.

I had a very challenging run/walk yesterday. The ground is very wet and muddy. The frost is out of the ground. Made for a bit of a challenge on the trail, but it was fun because it was so mild outside. I feel like I got a real good workout. Today will be an easy day followed by a rest day tomorrow.

I had a really nice run yesterday. I wasn't loving the weather although it was close to 50 degrees. It was dense fog. It's really depressing outside. One more day of nice weather and then the temps are suppose to drop. On the plus side, we should see some sunshine. I'll get out for a walk/jog this morning while it's still nice. Tomorrow will be an indoor biking day and Wed. is a rest day.

Tis the season, Beckyanne! D & I went to holiday breakfast this morning with my Marathon Coach & her hubby (who is an UltraMarathoner!) The four of us SPLIT a Smores muffin this morning! THAT's where our healthy lifestyle has taken us!
Back in the dark days, I would have killed one muffin with an enormous breakfast! Thank goodness! It's all about portion control!

Workouts are going well! Very mild morning but we also have dense fog. We haven't seen sunshine in over a week and there isn't any in the near future.

Plan today is to go for a run and then do my baking. (Then I should probably run some more after I do the sampling!)

The weather has been so gloomy this week. We were suppose to have sunshine, but that has since changed. no sun in the forecast all week. It also means the temps. won't get as warm as they were suppose to.

I got out on the trail yesterday, but that was short lived. Very icey. Couldn't wait to get back on pavement. I guess I'll have to try and get down by the lake this morning. DS is studying for finals this week so I don't want to bother him with my noisy workout machines.

I went down to the lake yesterday and ran 4 miles straight! That's pretty good for me right now. I guess my run walks out here have been helping. The temps. have been in the 30's with a light wind.

Today I will be getting on the treadmill though. Sleet and freezing drizzle overnight has made some of the roads, etc slippery. It wouldn't be bad if I could wait till later, but I can't. Mild weather all week so it looks good for getting outside all week.

I'm looking at temps in the 30's and I'm happy! Hopefully very little wind to go along with those temps. We have had temps in the 60's this time of year, but not the last few. It's been way below normal. I'd love the warmer weather, but I still enjoy my seasons. Each season is like a fresh start for me. (even Winter) It's just the extreme temps that get to me.

I had a meeting yesterday morning so ended up on the treadmill. Today I plan on getting outside. Tomorrow is a rest day/shopping day.

Have a great Friday!

Ran 3.5 miles last light with a Triathlon Teammate (who also just happens to be a Harlequin Romance Author!) last night at Safety Harbor Run Club! We talked the entire run at 10 minute pace and partied with the rest of the club later!

The weather was gorgeous at 6:00pm by the Bay. I found out how much I loved my new Brooks Transcends! It was like running on pillows, the most comfy shoe I've run in to date!

I'm jealous of all of the mild temps. I've been doing too many treadmill workouts. It's 21 degrees this morning so I should be able to get outside finally. The temps were warmer yesterday morning but the wind chill was in the single digits but it's not fun running in that cold wind. Can't wait till Spring!

Just finished a 5 mile walk/jog. Beautiful day in West Texas!

Holly/Texas. Time Zone: CST; Don't do anything today you can't maintain for the rest of your life; Studies show a mere 11 minutes of weight training 3 times a week is enough to reduce your body fat and raise your metabolism.

Treadmill workout yesterday, but today I was able to get out for a walk. (a little running) The roads were icey so I decided to just walk most of the way. Temp is 19 degrees right now with a light wind. It always feels good to get out when it's cold like this. Very refreshing.
Legs are much better. I think the fact that I've pushed up my workouts, but yet being careful not to over due it is really helping me. I'm feeling a bit more positive about next season.

MIRAGE-We Minnesotan's are tough. It was 54 this morning when I went out on my run. I saw a guy wearing shorts, no shirt rollerblading, another girl in a tank shirt and shorts running, and bikers along with short sleeves, etc. It was balmy out.
Unfortunately it's not going to last. Snow is in the forecast tonight and tomorrow. Anywhere from 1-5 inches expected along with blowing and drifting snow. By Thanksgiving, it should only climb into the 20's.

But, for now, I got out for a nice run! emoticon

After 4 days of treadmill workouts, I got out for 3 1/4 mile run. Temp. 10 with a wind chill of 2! Tried out my new winter running tights! The only thing I shouldn't have done was run on the trail. Saw another person running it this morning and thought why not? Why not? It's uneven and frozen and under the snow I didn't know if there was ice. Ended up turning around and getting back on the road which was a little frosty, but I could deal with that.

Close to 40 tomorrow with possible rain. I will get out unless it's freezing rain or its pouring. It's a little too cold to be running outside in the rain.

Have a great Friday!

Went to Run Club last night, tested out my new Transcends, had a cautious safe run, and really loved the ride. I actually had to get used to them but after I finished that 5K, I was rockin' it! (Oh the temp was around 56 degrees, which made for an easy run!)

We've got a windchill of 2 degrees! 60 would almost be too balmy for running here!

I've been on the treadmill all this week. I will say my legs at the end of the day and first thing in the morning aren't feeling too bad. I'm taking it nice and easy. I'm waiting for the air temp. to be in the teens or 20's before I get outside. This time of year is when I wish I worked mornings instead of afternoons.

The weekend is getting closer. Temps in the 30's! Unfortunately freezing rain is also in the forecast.
