Thanks for stepping up! Can you give me a pointer to the JG info? I can use all the help I can get!

BTW--I have a "crazy" brother who does Iron Man and also Ultramarathons--he took first in his age group this month in Las Vegas--running 100 miles in 22 hrs, 31 minutes. I do NOT need to do that--but do want to manage another 5K!

I am so GLAD you are the active leader for this team( I had drifted away due to a lack of activity)
I learned to run my first 5K through this team's program. Then I learned to use walk increments through using the Jeff Galloway style. I have not had a single imjury since I incorporated the JG style. emoticon for stepping up to the plate!

Because I'm so thankful for this program, I felt the need to share what I've learned, One critical secret I found is this. Embrace the run. Go into it with positive waves. Suffice to say that I was not comfortable with this team having no active team leader for too long. This team was essential to my transition from walker to runner. I don't dwell on the past. I just decided to step up and provide guidance. I look for teammates to help by being actively involved and sharing your experiences. Everyone will learn from them.

I've done 32 Official 5Ks since Nov 2010. The first two I walked. I started a walk/jog program in Jan 2011 and applied that plan to my 3rd 5K in Mar 2011. I kept seeing the runners and yearned to be one of them. I immediately started working this program. In May, because I didn't balance my nutrition properly with my training, I pan 2 5Ks unknowing I had pneumonia! I went into the hospital for 5 days and that's where I celebrated my 61st birthday! I didn't run from May 27 - Jul2! We learn from our experiences. We stay positive.

On Jul 3, I walked/jogged the Midnight Run 5K. I retrained in this program and haven't stopped running since!

This program worked for me. I believe it also is in harmony with the Jeff Galloway style of training to run with intervals. It's evident in the progression of changing over with walk/run rations. BUT, the most important thing about all of this is that we train with this program, we set a goal to run a 5K, and we finish the race! After that, we determine our new goals and adapt a running plan that will work for our race.

Leave no stone unturned. Whether you have a question about training, nutrition, run plans, race environment, whatever, ASK it! It might be just the question others want to ask! I'm also fortunate to share my journey and races with my wife. Because of that, she shares her perspective and a woman's point of view. I research from that point of view to help and support her and all my woman runner teammates!

I'll leave you with one more note for now. EMBRACE YOUR RUN! Have fun with it. Enjoy it. Be proud of the fact that you have stepped out in your journey and are embracing change! We're all in this together!
