My first 5k was supposed to be this past Saturday but I missed the turn around and ended up running the 10k instead hahaha. Kind of awesome since I beat my 10k time from June but I was really curious about what my 5k time was going to be...

I only recently began to get back to fitness now my 3-year-old daughter has begun preschool. I've always loved running and just signed up for my first 5k "Resolution Run" on January 1st 2013 down here in Tucson. I love the training plans and look forward to hitting the road (or treadmill since it's 100 degrees here). Thanks everyone for your support and I look forward to being part of this community.

I started on this plan months ago and have been adding to it since then. I've run two 5K races this year and just finished my first 10K race yesterday! I'll try to do another race in October or November, but I'm not sure what the distance will be since both races I'm scoping out have multiple length options to choose from.

I was supposed to run a race every month this spring/summer/fall leading to my half marathon in October...but I've been out for a month with a knee injury :-( I had to miss last weekend''s race, but I still went and cheered on my mom! Today I was given the okay to try to swim a LITTLE bit...so we'll see how far I get, and when I"m racing again :-)

Actually, Laura: you may not have thought so, but it turns out you have asked a rather humorous question! I thought about putting my time into my post, but then thought "Aw that's too much explanation...".

ANYWAY! It turns out DH and I missed the 5K cutoff (just kept on running with the 10Kers for a while!), so actually ran 3.3 miles because we had to double back. We finished in 35:33. While we may not be setting any speed records, I am very happy with what we have accomplished.

Your time for your trail run is awesome! By the time you complete your training you'll be unstoppable.

DH and I completed our first ever all running 5K race this past weekend. What a feeling of accomplishment - I'm so glad we did it! The training program really helped - when I felt myself running out of gas on the last quarter mile I knew I could keep on running because I had done it in training. And I actually even managed to pull out a little bit of a sprint at the end!

I've been lucky enough LOL to run three 5K's so now I'm registered to run my first 9K which is now in less then a month. I have to raise money as well for soldiers who have returned from Iraq or Afghanistan injured & in need of medical help. Run to Home Base 9K. It is a cause near & dear since my son serves & is currently overseas. But how lucky am I that he'll be home on leave to run this with me!!

I signed up for my first run ever, but it isn't until October! It's the Zombie Run in San Diego; a 5k with obstacles and zombies trying to take away your health points. It should be more for fun but I want to try to finish it with my health points intact and a cool time as well!

@visuallyrics: Feel free to sign up for your 5K. You can take it at your own pace. If you don't feel you're quite ready to run the whole thing, you can run/walk it using the week 2/3 schedule, or just run as many minutes as you want, then walk the rest.

Nothing motivates training better than an upcoming race!

There is a 5K on the 21st of this month.
I was wondering.....? Since I am a beginner, is it too early to plan to participate in my 1st 5K?

Ran my the entired 5k Today in the Get your Rear in Gear 5k. Soo Proud of myself. I did 3 5ks last year but I walked at least 1/2 of the way. But this time it was a complete jog/run. Woohoo

My first 5K is on 3/17/12! I am really excited to see what I can do. Submitting my race registration made a HUGE difference in my training; I am more committed and not making excuses. I haven't even completed my first and I'm already looking ahead for the next one!

Last year two of my sons joined me on some 5Ks, and it looks like my husband might be joining us this year. He's in pretty good shape but doesn't think of himself as a runner; however, he can power walk mighty fast so I suspect he'll end up running them. The only question now is, which will be our first run of the season? There's a Shamrock Shuffle around St Patrick's, but the weather can be too iffy that time of year. There's a course at the end of April with a fun finish which we might do but it always has a huge turnout so might not be a good first race for DH. There's a new & small event which will be on Mother's Day (also my birthday) this year, so we'll probably all run that one - I'll even insist my 14yo join us, since it is my birthday and all :^).

March 14, 2012 Get your rear in gear in Philly.

Last year this was the first 5k I'd ever participated in. I hoping that I'm able to run the entire 5k. I'm training....

I just ran the LA Kings 5K this past Saturday. 26:15 in the rain. Still training for my 1/2 Marathon on Super Bowl Sunday.

Thanks.....I am going to sign up for the one in January as long as I continue to run the next 6 weeks. It is getting pretty cold in the mornings and it will probably be worse for this run in January. I love being outside and did a lot of trail riding(horses) in the cold weather so I think I can do it. emoticon emoticon

Trail running is so much fun...I actually usually train on a trail and absolutely love it! I would definitely recommended giving a trail run a try and see if you like it. The trails are well marked (usually with a trail marker) and you should be able to follow someone (hopefully!). Otherwise, its pretty exciting to be leaping over roots and just being in nature! I'm sure you'll do great!

While on the topic of trail running...my next race will be a 7k trail run in Durham, NC. YAY!

Has anyone ever run a 5K/10K trail run? There is a series of trail runs scheduled in northern NJ. this fall/winter.
I think I can do the running, I am worried about getting lost even though I know the trails are marked!!

Ran my first organized 5K on November 6. Ran my first organized 10K on Thanksgiving Day. I have scheduling problems with all the local organized races offered in December, and I have other commitments in the first quarter. So my next organized race will be no earlier than April 2012, assuming something works out then.

But I'm planning to keep up regular running through the winter. So far, the coldest I've run in has been 25° F (-4° C) with minimal wind and dry pavement. It will be an adventure learning to deal with less favorable conditions.

Ran my first 10k last month, woohoo!
Next weekend is a Sleigh Bell 5k. I have my bells ready! Sporting new running shoes, now if only this cold would go away so I can run.

Ran my first charity 5K Thanksgiving morning. It was cold! Proud of myself for doing it and finishing in 34. Not my best time but better than I thought because of all the hills I do not have at home. Looking for another 5K for next month.

I am planning to run in the Madison, MS Turkey Day 8K this Thursday. What's especially neat is that my 25 year old son and his wife will be running too, and they're taking their kids in a running stroller. Running is still new to me, I've only been at it since April, and have done three 5Ks. This is definitely longer than I'm used to running, and I hope to finish in an hour.

I was supposed to do a 5-mile trail run this morning, the fourth in a series of five (Backyard Burn). I was still too sore from an overindulgent gym workout Friday morning, so I bailed on it. I don't feel bad about it, I've done three 5Ks and three 5-mile trail runs since July. I'll probably do a Turkey Trot 5K on Thanksgiving morning. And I'm signed up for a 5K and half marathon weekend in April, so I have something to keep in shape for.

When in doubt, take a hike.

Check your local places, usually there's something going on for fundraising around this time of year for racing...

I signed up for a 10K on Thanksgiving Day, because there were no local 5Ks and it's too good an opportunity to waste.

My goals are to keep running for the entire 10K, and to finish in 46 minutes or less. Longest training run to date was 6.12 miles in 45 minutes.

I haven't signed up for anything in the near future, but I am itching. I am thinking I might try a 10k next fall and I want to do a 5k in Vancouver again with my daughter next June. But I definitely want to do something before then. It's just that it's cold and snowy here and I don't like the idea of running outside in this weather.

I signed up for a race on Dec 10th at night... it was the Festival of Lights 5k. Unfortunately, I have to be out of town that weekend for family stuff, but am looking into other options in the near future.
