Decided to challenge myself today and go beyond the 5K distance I have been running. Was able to run 4.5 miles in about 48 minute. I was so excited at the 2+ mile mark that I did a little victory dance - boy was I embarrassed when I saw another jogger coming my way!!
Thank you sparkpeople .....I would have never attempted running at the age of 57......now I am thinking of training for a 10K. Another goal....another challenge!!

Two months after finishing the program, I've been running 3 or 4 days a week. I ran a 10K on Thanksgiving Day, without explicitly training for one. I came out of 5K training able to run 5 miles, and the added distance just happened naturally as a result of running regularly.

Now I'm contemplating a half marathon. That will require some thought and deliberate training.

Just finished my plan and ran a 5k. Can I do the same program again? Can I reset the program? Not sure how this works, but would like to follow another program. The structure is good for me to keep going and improve.

My first 5k is this coming Saturday (9/10/11) but I finished the 5k training plan a few weeks ago. I've been running every other day to keep what I worked up to, and past Saturday, I have my sights on 2 more 5k's - one each in October and November. This first one is about finishing and setting my personal bar. The next two will be about improving my time. Learning to set goals has been very good for me.

I have a vision of after the plan, being able to run 20 minutes nonstop on my lunch hour. 30 minutes would be nice, but the required time around the edges make that not really fit in a strict one hour lunch. Hopefully this will keep me fit enough to train back up to a 5K or 3.5 mile level in reasonable lead time before any local race that looks like fun.

I am in the same boat. I am going to do another week of Week 4 after I finish Week 5, then the next couple weeks I will experiment with intervals vs. straight running to figure out the most effective way for me to do the timed 5k.

Chrissy, keep running! You can pick another 5k, or we can set up a virtual Turkey Trot for Thanksgiving. You can train for a 10k, too.
