I really I do understand your question Dedrie. The best way to re-start without hassles is to leave the program completely then join afresh. You can leave the program by checking a button at the bottom of the page. You then join immediately and you have a totally fresh page.

Good evening, I'm new to the team. I have signed up for the 5k walk/jog training program. I have tried it in the past and it looks like it stored my old information on the tracking page. I'm trying to log my day#1 progress, but it won't let me update it to today's date with the numbers. Is there a way to reset the information currently in the tracker? I do hope you understand my question.

Runner's World at www.runnersworld.com has all kinds of advice for running. I visit this site at least once a week. They have many how-to's on getting prepared for marathons. Good luck!

I am new to running and actually running in a 5K this coming Sat.

My question is, how do you improve pace and have the ability to run for longer periods of time. I have yet to even run a half mile w/out stopping to walk. Currently, I can run/ walk 4 miles in about 56 mins and would like to get 5 miles in at 45 mins.

Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I struggle w/ what to eat on days that I run. It's not that I'm not eating, but by evening time I feel light headed and dizzy. What do I need to be eating after a run?

5K is the same as 3.1miles

But if you wish to have all your distance in kilometres then you need to go change your settings at the Start Page. Click on "email preferences/account settings"

Any chance the chart where we enter our distance could include km since this is what we are training for.

I wish I could recommend a good watch for you. But you can check online shops for good sports watch, they have stopwatch and you can easily time your intervals too with a beep.

Nonna, sorry for not giving answers to your enquiries for so long. I think you need to run at a particular pace before SP will record it for you as jogging. Most often when we think we have jogged, it is still recorded as walking. I think it is their policy around here.

EXCIRA - I was going to say that you must have a goal of 10 miles set that you forgot about so it is showing 6 of 10 miles completed, but with the 6/12 also I am not sure. I just noticed the date of your post so am sure you have long figured this out.

I just logged my Walk/Jog for today and it tracked it as Walking 24 min mile. That is definitely not correct. I have to go back in, remove the activity and retrack it with a walk/jog option. Someone needs to fix this.

When I track my Week 2 workouts it is posting them as Walking 20 min mile. Is that correct? I am jogging also. I have been removing that post and reposting with the Walk/Jog option since I know I am doing that. I think the links need to be checked. Last week it posted them as Running or Jogging 6mph 10 min mile, which I don't think that is correct either since there is a Walk/Jog option. Either way, last week it tracked as a higher level of activity and this week (2nd week) tracks as a lower level of activity, that is definitely not correct. Thank you for looking into this.

NVM... I found it! There is actually a link at the bottom right of the program page where you log your times and it shows you the check marks to leave the program.

so simple huh? LOL! Hope this helps others, though I'm not sure about restarting a single week.

Fitmay, you are welcome to running. I think you will need to track the second week privately using your SP's fitness tracker. Or just as Gmondello pointed out you can pose this question on the message board Fitness/Exercise section.

I hope you get a more satisfying answer there.

Have a nice week ahead.

Hello there!
I have done the program before... but now I'm coming back recovering from disease and plan to take it very slowly...
Does anyone know how can I track repeating the weeks... I mean I want to follow week 1 for two weeks.. week 2 for two weeks and so forth... just want to find a way to track it from the plan itself...
Thanks and happy running!

Breathing correctly while you run does matter.
I read from About.com's Christine Luff (think that's the right spelling) that using your diaphragm(pull in those Abs) while you exhale to fully empty your lungs of any carbondioxide, is crucial to give your body a good dose of clean oxygen while you run.
That helped me so much when I trained for my 2 & 3rd 5K's last year. Who knew? : )

@SOFTBALLMONKEY, I think Sparkpeople did a awesome job with this program compared to what I saw with the same program but different arrangements. Anyway, I feel the ultimate goal is to be able walk/jog a 5K after 5 weeks. I wish you the best.

Hi, all I am also new to the team but not new to running programs. As the new co-leader I will try my best to answer some of the questions posed on this thread.

Starting with 35ANGELS, I think what you ought to do is leave the team completely (find that at the bottom of the team's page), then re-join, I think that should give you a fresh page altogether. I hope to start my own training officially tomorrow. Hope this helps?

I got to the last week before winter set in, now I unjoined, then re-joined, but my mileage on my tracker doesn't erase? Like, I did w2d1, but my w2d1 is in there from back in Novermber. Is there a way to re-start, so it's erased?

( I hope that makes a little bit of sense. lol)

How do I use the tracker?

I joined today and did the first workout. It has a button that says TRACK NOW. When I click that, it takes me to a page that wants me to enter how many miles I went. I have no idea how many miles I went, I am walking indoors. So there is another link that says to click if you have no idea. I click that and it has a map. This map also wants me to make tracking points presumably to indicate the mileage I went!

This is pretty confusing. I guess I can just not use the TRACK NOW button that's included but that is easier than having to manually go to MyFitness and enter the stuff.

Quick question -- other than the link sent via spark mail, is there another way to access the page where we track what we've done?

I read an article that said to make sure your foot strike is not from the heel. It can cause shin splints. Make sure your foot stikes mid foot or on the ball. It has taken me some focus but can finally do it now without having to think too hard.

What surface are you running on?

So I did all three days of week one. Did day one of week two, the whole workout, but later after my workout my chins were screaming in pain. They hurt all the way up until I went to bed the following night. This morning I am supposed to do day two of week two. I feel slight soreness in my chins. I feel like my fitness level is good enough to go on, but I don't want to get hurt again. Should I go back to day three of week one or back to the Walk a 5k Program?

The instructions I got say for race day to complete my final training cycles until 3.1 miles has been reached. I thought it was a 5K. Which will I be ready to do at the end, a 3.1 or a 5?????

I am at Day 5 Week 1. I am needing to do the 30 minute walk/jog today but where I live it is freezing out and very windy can I do this workout on my elliptical/exercise bike trainer? And if so what should I shoot for as far as minutes, distance, and resistance? I know that working out on equipment is not the same so I want to get it as close as possible to my outdoor workout.

Use about a 1% incline and walk perhaps at 3.5 and run perhaps at 4.0 depending on how you feel. Back it down if it's too fast or speed up if you are slogging along. The key is your breathing. If you are huffing and puffing...slow down.

Ok my daughter and I started training program technically this morning at almost 1am when I got off work. We wanted to know is there a certain speed, to walk, jog, are we suppose to use incline?
Please help.

Yes. You leave the team and then re-join. It may take you a few times to try but eventually it works. Good luck!

Does anyone know how to restart the training programs? I just completed a 5 week program, but want to restart it to work on speed (and stamina by default), but it won't let me log the new distances from the interactive training plan, apart from logging the distance myself from the tracker (I really using the interactive plan) does anyone know what I can do?

Are you icing your knee and taking Advil?

And now for my question - I did a walk/jog 5k in the past, it shows my old tracking on the running plan, can I override it with my new accomplishments?

Someday is TODAY!

I'm sure that someone else has asked this question.

My left knee is killing me. Looks like runner's knee.

I completed a 5k in May, so this is my second 5k.

How long do I have to quit running and keep cross training?

I signed up for this program.

I can not run (never have been able to run because I can not regulate my breathing. I stop breathing until I stop running.) but I can walk and hope to advance to jogging spurts.

Per week there are 3 days on the plan. Does that mean I only run on Monday - Wednesday - Friday and rest on Tuesday - Thursday and Saturday/Sunday? Well, by rest I mean not run but do other exercises like strength training.

I noticed the program and printable instruction for training have less repeat cycles then coach Jen posted.

For example Day 1 print out say to repeat 4 times and coach Jen say repeat 5 times. Which one is correct?

I'm having trouble finding links to track my training (can't hardly ever find the link to the Trick or Treat Trot, though I eventually do). So, while I'm doing it, I'm not tracking it through the program, just on my own in the fitness tracker. And a couple days after I started, the program threw me into week 2, after I'd only had one day of training.

So...I'm still prepping for the race, but I'm not using the program.

Healthy is my main goal. Losing weight safely is part of that.

I really want to take part in this challenge but I only have time to run in the mornings before the sun is up. I don't like running in my neighborhood because they have no sidewalks, it's dark, and my husband isn't comfortable with me doing it. Will it be okay for me to train using the treadmill and be ready to do a real 5k at the end of October?

I will never give up!

I need to find out how to "clear" my tracking for this program and start over with week 1. I started this program earlier this summer. I did not finish it. I just signed up for the Trick or Treat Trot and would like to start my training program over. However, on the tracking program it still shows some as done from my previous time. Can anyone tell me how to clear it and start over? Thanks!

My question is about repeating a week. I just completed day 2 week 2 and I am not sure that I can do week 3 yet so I am considering repeating week 2. How would I update this duplicated week? Should I just track it in my fitness tracker and then update week 3 in the plan when I actually get to week 3?

I don't want to push on to week 3 because of knee problems, which haven't bothered me yet but I'd like to just take this slow.

I'm encouraged by reading everyone's questions and experiences. I started this program last week, did Day 1 and then went out of town for the weekend and couldn't get back to it until Wednesday. I got an email saying that I'm now in Wk 2 and thought I was messed up, but found that I could still track from where I left off. I noticed that someone else asked about the "tracked 6/10" and can tell you that it IS the date. Also, I was having internet issues yesterday and couldn't track my session, but found this morning that when you track your run, you can change the date for it, so I was able to make an accurate record.

I was also very encouraged by Laura, who said that it took her a year to even LIKE running! I'm sure that will be me--so it's nice to know that it actually CAN happen for me, too. At the moment, I detest it. I took a rest from jogging yesterday, so today will be Wk 2/Day 1 for me.

Love this program but I have a question that's been driving me crazy. Hopefully you all can help me.

When I log my time and distance into the calendar, it says "Tracked: 6/10" or "Tracked: 6/12".

What do those numbers stand for? Is that ranking my time and distance or used for some secret covert experiment?

I plan to do Day 1 on Tuesday. Since I can walk a 5K, can I walk longer than the 25 minutes? When I enter it should I break it up into 25 minutes for this challenge and just add the rest of my walk? I usually put my walk in from my maps. Is that a problem?

I push my daughter in her stroller-just a regular one, because I don't have a joggin stroller yet. I want to make sure I am really going to stick with it before I commit to a new expense. I was wondering if I should change my calorie burn count because of the extra effort to push her.

I also wonder, not that it REALLY matters because I'll most likely be pushing her in races too, if I would run faster or better if I was NOT pushing her.

I'm planning to try a mud-race too (not a crazy one, just a dirty one lol) after I finishing the running version of this program.

Does anyone else do street runs with a baby in a stroller? Any tips? Am I doing well at 1.94 miles in 27 minutes if I haven't really ever been a runner. I have walked a lot (3-4 miles a pop) for about a year and I do cardio and strength training. But 1.94 miles isn't 3.1 miles...you know what I mean? Thanks in advance for advice!!!

A very easy fix. All you need to do is "leave the team" and then rejoin. You can find the leave the team button at the right lower corner of the Team page. Good luch!

Hi there! I could use some assistance, I think, lol. I started this program in the fall and couldn't complete it. Now I am signed up for an official race in June and would like to get into this training again. Is there a way to reset this in my fitness program. I tried selecting week one again, but it still won't let me click on add the training that I had already done again. Gosh, this isn't easy to explain, but I hope it's clearer than I think. Thanks in advance for any assistance in this area. Have a great day!

Great job! Remember, too, that when the temps warm up you will need to slow down even more. It may seem like you are just plodding along but your body will need the slower pace.

You are doing great!

Thanks again Laurie! I walked/jogged day 1 of week 4 today and am thrilled to say that 2.5 minutes was much more manageable. I jogged at the slower pace as recommended and I actually was able to think about other things than breathing for most of the jog portion (such as how my legs felt, etc). The air temp here was about 10 degrees warmer than when I ran the last few weeks and that also seemed to help. Thank you!

I breathe the way it comes natural to me which is mouth breathing also. The main thing is you do not want to huff and puff and that is controlled with pacing.

Thanks Laurie--does it matter how you breath while you run or do our bodies just naturally breath the way they're supposed to (in my case, inhale and exhale through the mouth)?
