You mentioned Apple products, which I don't have either, but I have an android phone and got the apps on that. If you don't have that either, maybe look for some podcasts you could download to your iPod (I've never owned one of those, but I assume you can do that). Or you could even make your own music mixes with prompts when its time to walk/run.
Or someone suggested the Gymboss, I looked into that, its not expensive.

Good luck with your goals!! You can do this!!

Today is my first day. I have printed out my schedule and I have signed up to WALK a 5k on June 8th. I know that is only 4 weeks but I have walked 2.1 miles regularly in the past. I am doing this plan to get ready to WALK the 5k and will continue after the 5K to work on this plan because I am doing a second 5K in July that I HOPE to RUN! So scared and excited. My question is how do I time myself if I do NOT have an iPhone, iPad, or any other one of those devices. I do have an iPod of the OLD variety. Is there anything for that? I love to listen to my iPod when I walk. It helps me get my mind off the muscles fussing at me.

I use the RunKeeper app on my iPhone. I think it was free, but I'm not positive. It has this feature that lets you set a workout and it will announce each section. For example, since I just started, I'm on walk 4 minutes, run 1. I plugged that in to the phone, told it to repeat 4 times, and hit start. Then the phone says "Activity started, first interval, 4 minutes, slow" and when four minutes is up, it dings and says "Second interval, steady". Etc Etc. It's pretty spiffy :-)

I have a Nike ap on my ipod. I keep the ipod in my hand and when I press the on/off button the voice tells me the time.

Hi fellow runners!
I've been on this group for a while, I ran my first 5k about 3 weeks ago, but I've got issues with shin splints and have been in physical therapy since the beginning of April. Today my therapist got me on the treadmill to practice the running form corrections that I need and he said I did great, it felt great too! He said I'm ready to try running again but he wants me to start out slowly and gave me a progression I need to follow, its similar to this program and to the C25k but not exactly the same.

I remember someone asking this question but I couldn't find it on the boards. What can I use to prompt me when to walk and when to run? I was downloading C25k podcasts before but I looked at the program and its more aggressive than what he wants me doing and I definitely don't want to re-injure myself. So what can I use so I'm not trying to set a timer or look at a clock the whole time I run? (I run outside so I can't use the timer on a treadmill)
