No, you don't have to follow the program exactly as it is. It's more of a guideline and you can modify it any way you need.

If you are really having a hard time with week 6, you can try slowing down your run or you can go back to week 5 and stay there for a couple weeks, then move on when you are ready.

Do what works for you. There is no time limit on this program. It was designed to get you out running. Doesn't matter how long it takes you to get there.

Just don't quit!

You got this :)

Thank you so much for the advice. I thought I had to follow the program exactly because that was how you build stamina for the 30 minute run. It is time for me to do week 7. I will try to run the 4 min one time and then walk until I catch my breath. If I can't then I will go back to week 6. I think I can make the run, I just need a longer rest period, and if I still have trouble, then I will do the walk run program and come back to this program after that. but I think I will be okay now with the advice you gave me. Thank you so much. I will let you know how I do today.

I'm sorry you're struggling and frustrated, this is hard!
My advice is to switch it up, if you're having a hard time doing the 1 minute walk after about 10 or 15 minutes, then walk for 2 minutes, then go back to jogging for 3. Allow yourself time to go at your own pace. Don't push yourself until you get to the point that you hate it and want to just avoid it altogether.
Come up with a modified program that works for you, maybe if you increase the walk time to 2 minutes every other walking interval from the beginning you would have more energy to get all the way through. Maybe increasing walk time only when you feel like you can't catch your breath is all you need to do.
I suggest getting out there again, going a little slower, allow yourself the freedom to make some changes, nothing is set in stone that you have to walk for just 1 minutes.
Make this YOUR program.
Hang in there! You can do this!! emoticon

Hi,
I started week 6 about 2 weeks ago and I still haven't made it all the way thru the week.It is hard for me to start running again after 1 min.I can do it for about 10 maybe 15 min but then I just can't do any more. It gets very hard for me to breath. I get exhausted and start getting dizzy. I am a little discouraged now because I come so far and there are only two weeks left.I don't know what to do. I'm thinking maybe I should do the walk run program and then try this again after that. Please help. I'm really not encouraged to go out there anymore.
