I have just been using a timer on my phone, so in week 1 I know that I need to run during minutes 4, 9, 14 and 19

Yesterday I jogged for 1min and 15sec instead of just the 1min. I know that's not GREAT but I'm very proud of myself because I'm sticking to my exercising and trying to improve. I'm not going to give up!!! emoticon

That's okay. Our body speaks to us, and if we don't listen we end up getting injured. I got to week three, and my heels started to really hurt. I backed off for a week, and started back on week three again. emoticon

Congratulations! I'm still on week 1 and finding it more difficult than I thought it would be, but I'm not giving up! Just doing week 1 over again until I feel that I can move on. emoticon

if you have a smart phone, there are free apps with a c25k program. The one that I downloaded, I have for the iphone lets you play your music and tells you when to walk and run. I love it! Just finished week 4 day 1!

Here is what I did. I don't have a smart phone, but I do have an mp3 player. I found songs that were the correct length, and I switched from walking to running when the song changed. I used that for a while.

later I downloaded sound bites and inserted the sound "I'm so ready," when it was time to run, and the sound "you're almost there," when it was time to walk. It takes a while to set up, but it works.

I have a Timex Iron Man, the basic model. I was able to program it by watching u-tube videos, not by the teeny tiny paper instructions that were included. It has 2 interval settings that you can program to any length & a chronometer which will time the overall workout (including warm up.) You can pause it too, for interruptions, like cleaning up after the darn dog!

Krander... thanks for the link. I'm going to check it out. I currently have Run Tracker or Run Keeper or something. I think it might be able to do a custom training program. I know it "coaches". Thanks again!

The gymboss that Suezette mentioned is perfect and really easy to use. I think it's totally worth it even if you can get an app on your phone. I am wary of buying things online from sites I don't know so it took me a few weeks to finally give in and order it but now I wish I hadn't waited.

I use the free c25k app for my phone. There is a beep and speaker, and it seemlessly integrates into your music. Their intervals are not the same as Spark week one is 30 run, 90 walk, but it's the same idea. I like it.

You would think someone would come up with something really, really simple to use. I think I might actually have an app on my phone that would do it. I'm going to have to check it out. So far I'm keeping my phone in my hand and keep checking. A nuisance but I've been managing. Thanks for the idea.

When I first started I used 2 small digital kitchen timers, one in each hand. I set one for the 'walk' mins & the other for the 'run' mins. When one went off then I started the 2nd one. It was a bit confusing at first but it worked.
I have since moved up to using a heart rate monitor that has a timer on it, so now I just run with 1 kitchen timer & the HRM :)

There are no stupid questions!

I use a GymBoss. It's an interval timer and you can get one for around $25 from Amazon.

I know this is a super stupid question but on these training programs where it says to walk three minutes and then job/run two minutes and repeat five times, how does one keep track of the time without stopping to change a timer or something? What gadgets does everyone use? Thanks!
