It is possible that you are having trouble because you are not eating enough fresh fruits and veggies? Running burns a significant amount of calories and your body will feel that. Check to see that you are getting enough protein, you are exercising. You could add some stretching?
I think the biggest thing that sticks out to me in your question is "given the stress..." If you want to lose weight you'll have to deal with the stress in a positive way. I found several good meditation apps that help. Another option is journaling or counseling? Fishing, long hot bath, yoga, getting your freak on with some loud music.... Whatever floats your boat, but my guess is your stress is your inhibitor, good luck.
One last thing: your body will not release weight if it is dehydrated or underrested. Maybe it will, but it does better when you are hydrated and rested just so you know...
I bet you knew all that and just needed someone else to say it out loud? :)

When I started running the first time it took about 6 straight weeks of 3x/week runs before I started to feel my clothes fit differently. I think my body might have been in some shock about what I was doing off the couch ;)
The endurance improvement though I started to notice after two weeks--that was encouraging enough for me to keep going! Good luck--you are doing great things for yourself!!

I know when the scale doesn't move it is discouraging but muscle does weigh more than fat. If you clothes are fitting better & your energy is increasing you ARE making progress. So keep up the good work, the scale will catch up. Be sure & take all your measurements each week & you will pleasantly surprised I am sure.
not to sound to scary but I have actually gained a few pounds (and yes I have stuck to my diet) and I am on week 8. I know not really all that helpful... but I am hoping that if nothing changes as far as clothing fitting and measurements you will gain muscle instead of losing weight.
