I don't think I tapered for my first 5k since I wasn't done with the program before I ran it. And I haven't raced anything shorter then a half marathon in a very long time.

I wouldn't do any running the day before the 5k and maybe only run for 1 or 2 miles a couple days before it. You do want to have fresh legs when you toe the line.

So my first 5k is on Sunday June 3rd. Can anyone give me advice about tapering and how much I should be tapering? I followed the newbie program so obviously I run 3x week and cross train 3x week.

And congrats to everyone that has completed their first 5k! Your messages are very inspiring and its calming my nerves a bit!

Today I ran my 1st 5k. I am so pleased with results. Came in at 32.10 minutes. Would have been faster if not for me slowing down for 30 seconds on the big hill and then slowing again slowing for the hubby to take my pic..lol. But all in all I am totally ecstatic.

Congrats to the rest of you that have finished your 1sts as well. What an awesome feeling!

I ran my first 5k today!! It was absolutely amazing! My WW buddy and I finished in 48 minutes! We ran more then we walked and it was an amazing experience that I had been dreaming of doing for a long time!! Now I can't wait for the next one!!

I'm Dani! And now it's about me!

I ran in my first 5K yesterday with my cousin. He helped push me (he's a more experienced runner). I ran most of the way, taking walking breaks as needed. I am very pleased with my results - 38:52. I felt a bit light-headed and dizzy for a few min. afterward, but my endurance has definitely improved during my training. I used to feel that way after running (no walking) a mile. Now I can run a mile and feel fine. :o)
