I've been using a fitbit for almost a month. It does a great job tracking and is in sync with spark to automatically transfer the data so I don't have to enter it.

Thanks, Moomshine and Janet,

Sorry I haven't replied sooner. I forgot to return to this page and so far I haven't received any email notifications. So I just bumble along doing the best I can. emoticon

BECKAGIN - You got a lot of good information from MOOMSHINE.

Don't worry about editing on the log page if you are having trouble with it. Instead do the editing on your Fitness page.

Have fun.

Hi, Beckagin
I don't know how "important" it is to have the actual numbers; however, SP gives you a virtual trophy for every 25 or so miles you complete. For me, keeping track, seeing the numbers, and getting the virtual awards is encouraging, especially since I have no support on the home-front.

When you post your miles on the 5K Your Way Walking chart, the time, calories burned, and miles are automatically posted to your Track-My-Workout page, but not vice versa. Since you're calorie requirements are based on your energy expended, then your Nutrition Tracker will tell you to eat too many calories, and too many calories will prevent you from losing weight.

In order to lose weight, I need to consume between 1200 and 1400 calories per day, so, to answer your question: It is important for me to have the correct number of miles on my chart.

So sorry for being so wordy. The point is to have fun while we're losing the weight - That's what's Important.

I made a mistake on tracking for my 3rd day. I attempted to edit it so I would get my correct number of miles but don't think it worked. Is it important?

didn't even see that "miles" marker on the tracker. Just spent a few minutes posting every mile for the past thirty day (then deleted the duplicate cardio. . .something very satisfying about seeing those 36.73 miles in print. 8-)

I usually don't use the tracker after figuring out the distance for the route. I just know the mileage and don't worry about it. I tend to use the same routes as they work better for me than a new one every day. Once mapped and logged, I write it down so I don't have to do it again.

I posted the question and will let you know how it turns out. I've not had much luck asking tech questions; they tend to send me pasted copies of instructions that I've already read and not understood. Hopefully this will be better!

I got a great response, though maybe not what you or I was expecting.

Spark has community message boards that we can use to get information we can't find else where. I knew they existed, but wasn't sure where to find them. Thanks to Coach Nicole we all have the information now.

Go to "Community" on the orange bar above. On the drop down menu click on "message boards." Then choose the message board that best suits your question. There is one for technical help.

Why don't you post your questions there and see what answers you get. Sometimes this also gives the SP leaders ideas for additions to the system if the solution you seek doesn't yet exist. Give it a try, and let us know what you find out.

KLUTZY68 - I have sent your questions to the coach. While I'm good with training questions and issues, I don't have that much technical knowledge with the Spark site to be able to give you an accurate answer.

It may take a little while, but the coach always gets back to me. So be patient and one of us will be letting you know the answers to your questions.

I hope someone is still answering questions here. I use the route mapper, love it! Is there a way to use it like favorites in the food tracker? I can't figure out how to get a route I've saved into the favorites, or some other way to automatically add it to my mileage rather than having to open it and put it in (which isn't THAT hard, just wondering). Also yesterday's route did not get entered into my daily totals. I think that's the first time, although I haven't been checking. Anyone know what went wrong? I did save it.

If I had a Fitbit, would that connect to SP and enter the info for me? I would only consider the basic model that costs ~$55.

I just found a new app for my phone called MapMyWalk. I love it. It's a free app and will measure distance, time and elevation changes. It uses your weight and age to determine how many calories you burned. I just plug my info into my fitness tracker on SparkPeople. It will also let you set up courses and you can try to beat your time from previous walks/runs. My daughter and I like to try to beat ourselves. It's a little goal to help me practice for the bigger goal of the 5K.

When you track in the mileage tracker it should automatically transfer to cardio as well. However it uses spark's calorie burn numbers. Many times these numbers are either way high or way low. So if you track your own calorie burn, you can always delete the numbers spark puts in your cardio and put in your own. If for some reason your mileage doesn't automatically transfer to the cardio section, go ahead and enter the information there as well.

I like to hop on the elliptical at the gym. I track that in my cardio. Can I track this in two different places or should I stick with the mileage tracker. Don't want it to look like I'm exercising twice as much.

I use my pedometer. I walked a known distance a few times and figured out how many steps it took to walk that distance. Then I can use the pedometer to figure out my mileage.

Another thing I sometimes do is drive the distance and use my car odometer to figure out the mileage.

If you use KM instead of miles, adjust the program to fit you rather than kill yourself making you fit the program. Figure out the kilometers per mile and adjust your walking program accordingly. I have to do that when I do a 5K on my own. I know that a 5K is 3.1 miles. When I've gone 3.1 miles, it is the 5K.

On your fitness tracker page click on the mileage tab. You will see "Map Your Route" in red just under the tabs. You can use that to pre-plan or find out how far you went. Also if you are in a city, many of them are planned on specific distances. Where I live in Colorado 8 blocks is a mile (120th to 128th ave. is one mile) and the main streets are also built on one mile increments.

Hi! I plan to start with this program bur I don't know how to keep track how many miles/kms I walk when the training program says walk 2 miles etc.. Minutes are easy, I can easily set up a music file that long to keep walking as long as music runs but I don't have any fancy equipment to track the miles i walk. How do you do that? Any ideas?
