Teresa, your doctor may not talk to you about the stem cell procedure. Not all doctors do it. You will probably have to do the searching on the internet and get the information about the procedure, and find out which doctors do it in your area. Good luck. Fran

My Dr.s have not said a thing about stem cell treatment for the knee to me. From what i get the rooster comb shots are all that is left of then TKR foe me. I have asked them what else there was and this was what I was told.
Its raining here today and it has my knee upset so I hope I find something that works before winter or its going to me a long winter for me.
LONG35-Thanks so much about sharing that the stem cell treatment worked for your niece. I am wondering did she have a partial or TKR? Also, would you happen to know the name of the hospital or clinic where she had it done at so I could go to their website and learn more about what they are doing. Thanks again!
Is your pain bad? or is it something you can block from your mind? I block it out on many days but then other days its so much pain that I can't. When I get up from setting down for as little as 5 min its hard for me to walk at first. In the mornings its like pulling teeth to walk for about 5 minutes or so. I hold the wall and make my way to the bathroom then to the living room by then the stiffness and soreness is starting to losen up some. I can't stand still on it for more then like 5 or 10 minutes or it starts to burn and hurt
My mom is like 66 and the arthritis Dr says her knees are in much better shape then my are. I will have the surgery if that is what it takes but I hope the shots work so I don't have to at this time. I want to be able to do things with my 6 year old twins and as it is now I cant because of the pain. They want to go to water parks and the fair/ect the way I am now I just cant handle those things much at all with out LOTS of pain. I am not scared of pain but when it makes me cry you know I am in pain. No pain meds with labor so I can handle some pain. I just want to live my life without it being a everyday thing.
The first time I had the set of 3 shots, I was relatively pain-free x ~ 6 mo. I went back ~ a year later and the pain-free period was only about 6 weeks. I have had arthritis in my knees for 43 yrs. and was told 18 yr ago that my knees were bad enough that replacements were recommended. As long as I can walk, I choose to wait. I teasingly tell people, "I'm the energizer bunny - I keep going and going." Then I add, "in slow motion!"

I appreciate you wanting to wait as long as you can to have a TKR. I too am trying to put off having one. I have been trying to educate myself about possible alternatives. One that appears to offer promise is stem cells. I plan to attend an online seminar on August 13 to learn more about it. Should you be interested here is their website: http://www.regenexx.com/
The way I see it even if stem cells doesn't turn out to be a viable option it is encouraging to know that alternative treatments to a TKR are being researched. I just hope they get them sooner rather then later. In the meantime I wish you good luck with the shots. Who knows you may be in the 50% of people they help.

Ok there are many brand of shots that have the rooster comb in them for the knee. The Dr today says that I have a 50% chance of this working on my knee. He says that he don't think the one shot treatment will work so I have to try the set of three (one shot a week for three weeks). I am not to king on more shots in the knee but I am not ready for total knee replacement just yet either. So I am going to try the shots if they can get them paid for me to have them. They cost a nice amount they said. I hope they work for my knee I am so sick of being in pain and having trouble walking often because of my knee.
