Kasey, the safety leashes are awesome. Saved me many times from losing my ped. They are easy to calibrate. I just need about 15 min of quiet time and I can figure it out. Bev

Joann they have pedometers with and without safety leashes from 6.50 to about 25.00.
at Amazon.com. For anyone that has trouble with losing pedometers they sell safety leashes for about 2.50 there too.

Joann - just GOOGLE the brand and then you can access the instructions. That is why I like the new WW pedometer, it is simple and I am all for simple. I cannot tell you how many I have lost, but this new WW comes with a strap attached and you clip it on your pants and you cannot lose the pedometer. I have bought them from REI, Wal-Mart, etc but the best results is the WW one. Bev

JOANN - If you can't find the instructions you may be able to locate them online. That's what I usually end up doing. If you want to tell me the brand and model I'd be happy to look for them for you.

I bought one at the Canadian Tire store here and can't get it to work right. I get so frustrated with the silly thing. Stopped using it for a bit. Have to find the instructions and reread them..

It is a brand new one. I just bought it and the gal was going to add my information in for me and I told her how many steps, and she told me that it was already calibrated in the pedometer. Works for me. Bev

BEV - What kind of pedometer does WW use that doesn't require you to measure the steps?

Hi Carolyn, I tried it again and it worked. Unfortunately my cat Franklin wanted to do the exercises with me. He's a hoot. Will have to do them again when he is sleeping. BTW I got my new pedometer at WW and you don't have to measure the steps it is built in. I really love it and wear it every day and try to increase them all the time. Glad you are using your pedometer. Bev

BEV - I don't know what's wrong with your link. I just clicked it from the post below and it went right to it. I have a pedometer but need to re-calibrate it because the step length is off. I've been using the "Map Your Route" link under the mileage tab on the Fitness Tracker to find out how far I walked and I just check my watch before I leave and when I get back to find the time it took. One of these days I'll dig out the instruction book and fix the pedometer but until then this works fine for me.

Whitney-Teacher - When I try these links I get a "page not found". Don;t know why. I wear a pedometer and try to do more steps every day. I mark them on my calendar and I can see the improvement. Any little bit helps. Bev

I just found this yesterday. It's a link to a You Tube video called "Chair Stretch (quick stretch, seated exercise)" done in a chair. It takes about 10 minutes. The person doing the video was recommended by someone on another team so I checked out some of her video's. Here's the link:

Exactly Bev. I no options for getting up if I get on the floor. So I do them in the bed and it also cradles my joints so they don't get the pain I would get on a mat on the floor.

I cannot do floor exercises because getting down is OK, but getting up is a bigger challenge. I found I can do the same exercises on my bed and get the same results and don't have the problem of getting up or down. Bev

IKACEY that is great advice and you can also try the pool for exercises as well.Remember to check with your Doctor before starting any exercises first.

I use a combo of bed exercise cardio combined with range of motion exercises. Whatever you do start slow and don't do too many reps at first. No Pain No gain is just not true. You should be able to work up slowly on what you can do and not experience pain. Some muscles may protest a little at first as will joints being moved that haven't been being moved fully in awhile, but not to the point of real pain. Our local library here has books that show good range of motion exercises for OA and it helps relieve pain. After using them a bit I find that I miss them if I miss a day. And I can feel the difference.
As far as stretches go there are some nice easy seated or chair videos here on Spark and on You Tube. Check the video library under articles and videos on the orange bar up above.

It depends how bad your arthritis is. It's very important to keep the joints moving.
This may be motivational (does not exactly answer your question).

Also look into the chair exercises on Spark People. I have done some of them and they aren't as stressful on the joints.

Blessed be.

Welcome. My doctor and gym trainer recommended the recumbent bike because it doesn't put stress on the joints. My doctor also recommended walking in the pool. Just 15 min in the pool is 30 min on the ground. I too have OA in my knees and find that doing the chair exercises on SP really helps me. Bev

Sparks has exercises you can do in a chair. Also, your local Arthritis association should be able to help.

Every day I am on the verge of making slight changes that would make all the difference in my life.

I have problems with my knees ankle and back. Things that help me, water aerobics, low impact, good walking shoes, walk with a staff, it takes up to 60% of your weight off your legs, floor exercises, no crunches, ball exercises, sit on exercise ball.

Aqua aerobics can be fun - classes are usually relatively inexpensive if you have a YMCA or a local recreation center near by.

Yes a regular bike or exercise bike hurts my knees too much. But I can see that an incumbent bike would be much better. Thanks so much for the suggestions. I'll take more from anyone who has them!!

I took up swimming and bike riding.I love my stationary bike - recumbent bikes are usually easier on the joints.
