Yeah I hear you. I was taking advil and it worked better than my tylenol 2s. My brother told me to stop the advil as I take a 81 mg aspirin and you aren't to take advil with them. Go figure get something that works and can't take it. I love red grapefruits and can't have them as I take Lipitor. Just can't win for losing these days. I am not giving up though. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

JOANNHUNT - I too have tried everything under the sun to be in less pain. I cannot take Tylenol because it makes me sick to my stomach, I cannot take Celebrex because I take medication for Glaucoma, so I have to rely on ALEVE and whatever OTC meds I can find to relieve the pain. The doctors all tell me to lose weight, and exercise more. Hard to get up and exercise when you hurt and just bending down I hear the crackling of the bone on bone. I do lots of chair exercises that I got from SP and they are helping. The support from SP and the wonderful people, as yourself, that keeps me going is better than what I get anywhere else. You ladies are awesome. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I've tried so many diet pills and remedies and non of them got me informed as SPARK PEOPLES site does. Pain killers don't work on everybody. Since I started with Spark People just over a year ago I have gone from taking 8 Tylenol 2;s with codiene, plus one celebrex each day to just taking one celebrex each day. I am not in all the pain anymore like I was. I can't take NSAIDS at all. They give me severe charlie horses in my legs. I have 2 total knee replacements, breast reduction, ftbromyalgia, ftbroidcysts in my breasts, carpol tunnel in my wrists, impingement in right shoulder, deteriating discs in back, arthitise in my legs, back and hands. Since Spark Prople I have learned to cope and move on up to a better life and future. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Everyone is different. I know when I worked in the ER the doctor would prescribe meds according to a patient's weight. One pill might do for some, but for heavier patients they would describe, for the same med, 2 or 3 tablets depending on the weight. So everyone is different and you will always get someone with different results. You have to know your own body. Bev

I've noticed when reading reviews of products that it's not unusual to have some people swear that it helped them and others swear that it didn't. I think different people's bodies respond differently based on a whole bunch of variables. It's important to be in touch with your own body and be able to honestly analyze the effects (if any) that you are getting from a particular product. If you genuinely think it's helping than I don't think it matters much what it did or didn't do for someone else. The reverse is also true, just because it appeared to help a bunch of other people doesn't necessarily mean it will be effective for you.

There was a Dr on the Dr Oz show that talked about Raspberry Ketones. There are some that are sanctioned by the FDA and others that are not. My health foods store explained it all to me and we checked online for the best one. Thank you for the web site and I will check it out.

When I hear of a vitamin or supplement on the market that promises certain benefits I do 2 things to check it's possible effectiveness:

1. I go to WebMD's "Find a Vitamin or Supplement" site and see what it says. It has really good information about uses and effectiveness for quite a few things. I just went there and typed in Rasberry Keytones and this is what it said:

Insufficient Evidence for:
Weight loss.
Obesity.
Increasing lean body mass.
Hair loss (alopecia).
More evidence is needed to rate raspberry ketone for these uses.

Here's the link to the WebMD's Vitamin and Supplement search page:

http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplement
s/default.aspx

If you look to the left once you're on that page you can also do a search by medical condition to look for things that might be effective for your particular condition. I looked up "obesity" and "arthritis" for example. They give a list of products that claim to work for your condition. The products are rated as "Possibly Ineffective" through "Likely Effective", there are several categories in between. You can then click on the product on the list and read more about it. I found out about SAMe that way when I searched for "arthritis", it's rating is "Likely Effective."

2. If I find a product that I want to try I go to Amazon.com and look for it, not necessarily to buy it from Amazon but to read other people's reviews of the effectiveness of the product. Sometimes you can get good information just from reading reviews from people who have used the product for awhile, how long it takes before the product starts working for example.

Unfortunately we are all in the position of wanting a "miracle cure" and are hopeful of every new product we hear about. There are a lot of unethical companies out there that are more than happy to take advantage of that and even more happy to take our money.

I called my local Health Foods Store and they have it in stock. I will be going there tomorrow. Has anyone heard of Raspberry Ketones? I heard they were good for fat burning. I got them at my Health Foods Store and they worked for me. I stopped taking them, as I detest taking pills and always forgot to take them. I am sure you have to be consistent for them to really work.

I'm thinking Costco might have this. I'm surprised it is prescription only in Europe.

I live in a small, out-of-the way place as well. I love Amazon. Plus, my youngest son works for them. In some small way, I feel like I contribute to his job security each time I order. emoticon Funny how they are always our babies no matter how big they get.

Amazon offers free shipping in you spend over $25. A good way to order thing you're not in a tremendous hurry to get is to add things to your cart when you find them until the total goes over $25 and then order. They just sit there until you hit the order button, Amazon doesn't delete them or anything.

I buy mine through Amazon.com. Because I live in such a small town I buy mostly everything from Amazon. I've done this for years with no bad experiences, their customer service is really good too. I really like to be able to read customer reviews before I purchase a new product of any kind and Amazon has customer reviews for about everything they sell. Here's the link to the one I take but you can look at other's on their site also:

Where did you buy yours? Can I get it at a health food's store? I got jaded with ordering anything online. Ordered the Forever Comfy Pillow the one that is advertised for $19.95 and second one free,HA HA HA. They sent me a bill for $129, which I am still disputing with my credit card company. I sent them back, cost me $40 and I have nothing to show for my $40. So not a believer of what is advertised on TV anymore. Let me know where I can buy SAMe. Bev

I hope it works for you. I only started taking it myself a few weeks ago and I know with some things it takes a while to see results. I started with 400mg in the morning and 200 mg in the afternoon but I might increase the amount since the article said 600 mg a day was the minimum recommended dose for osteoarthritis. I liked the idea that it might possibly rebuild cartilidge, that sounded good. I'm also still taking the Schiff Glucosimine and think that is helping also.

I did look it up. I am going to try it because I can't take N-said's and need a safe medication. I'll let you know how it works for this old gal. (Hey - who you callin' old?) emoticon

It's easy to want to try anything that you think might work if you're in pain. Unfortunately there are a lot of places that will take advantage of people and try to sell them totally worthless products with the promise of relief. I was happy when I found some reputable sites to get information from that included actual studies and research. I think, like anything else, some things work well for some people and not for others. There is a lot of trial-and-error when it comes to medical issues I think.

It is worth a try. Right now I am using the MEGARED for joint arthritis. Only 1 pill a day and I noticed a great improvement in the beginning, but now not too sure. I have tried the Schiff before and it had a short time for improvement. I just have to lose all this extra weight and I think that is half my problem.

For quite a while now Iíve been doing research and trial-and-error experimenting on myself in the hopes of finding something that will ease the flair upís of my knee arthritis (I also have it in a lot of other joints, my neck I think is the worst, but my knee arthritis affects my weight loss efforts the most). Iím sure a lot of you have heard of or tried Glucosimine with Chondroitin supplements but for me I found them to be ineffective. What did work however was Schiff brand Glucosimine with MSM which I got from Costco. I tried it when someone with pretty severe arthritis recommended it to me and, after about 2 weeks began to notice some improvement. Another friend of mine recommended the Costco brand of Glucosimine with Chondroitin. That was cheaper so I stopped taking the Schiff brand and switched to the Costco one. In a very short time I noticed more pain and stiffness so I switched back and now take 2 tablets daily for a total of 1500 mg. I have no idea what MSM is but, for me, it was more effective when combined with Glucosimine than Chondroitin.

I recently found this information about another over-the-counter product, SAMe, which I didnít previously know about:

From the University of Maryland Medical Center website about SAMe
(S-Adenosylmethionine) and it's effects on osteoarthrisis:

Osteoarthritis
A number of well designed clinical trials show that SAMe may reduce pain and inflammation in the joints, and researchers think it may also promote cartilage repair, although they are not clear about how or why this works. In several short term studies (ranging 4 - 12 weeks), SAMe supplements were as effective as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen and naproxen in adults with knee, hip, or spine osteoarthritis. SAMe was as effectives as these medications in lessening morning stiffness, decreasing pain, reducing swelling, improving range of motion, and increasing walking pace. Several studies also suggest that SAMe has fewer side effects than NSAIDs. Another study compared SAMe to celecoxib (Celebrex), a type of NSAID called a COX-2 inhibitor, and found that over time SAMe was as effective as celecoxib in relieving pain. However, other studies show no diffences in pain relief or tolerability between treatment with SAMe or habumetone over 8 weeks in patients with knee osteoporosis.

You can also look up the current information on the effectiveness of a lot of supplements on either the WebMD website. WebMD said that although SAMe is over-the-counter in the United States itís a prescription drug in Europe. Itís also used to treat ADHD and depression. Here is the link to the SAMe information on WebMD:
