Sounds right, but if it were my DH we would be in a major argument about my nagging him. I say things like that once and leave it alone. It is his life, after all.

If I can only get through to him, it would be nice. But at 50 years old, I guess I cannot stop him. At least I got him to stop the dark sodas. Dark Sodas create kidney stones in men. He got them once and since Mountain Dew no stones. I wish he would listen about the Mountain Dew. Oh well, his problem.

I love Mountain Dew, but it is more highly caffeinated than coffee, tea or chocolate. Joanne is right - he is in withdrawal from caffeine. I don't drink it any more either.

Your sons headaches from not drinking the Mountain Dew are withdrawal from the caffeine in the pop and will pass with time. The longer he does without the better he will feel. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I will check them out, I didn't think they had any artificial sweeteners in the Hansens.

I was looking at the regular soda. The diet varieties are sweetened with Splenda.

I will check it out, if I remember correctly, the last time I looked it was sugar free. I will still check the ingredients. Bev

Even an "all-natural" soda is just carbonated water and sugar. It might have natural coloring and/or natural flavors added, but it's still basically sugar and water.

Fran, all the Fresh and Easy have been made into Sprouts, so I am sure they carry the same products. I will check out Hansen's soda next time I go in. I know it is touted as all natural, so I will check them out when I go. Ginger Ale has always been my favorite. I drink my coffee in the morning and water the rest of the day. But Sodas will trigger hunger miswulf1 glad to hear you stopped the sodas and feel better. Trying to wean my son from Mountain Dew, but he gets major headaches due to the loss of boost he gets when he doesn't have one. But at 50 years old, kinda hard to do. LOL

Wow. I might be way off the mark here, and I realize we are all different... but drinking soda for me just made me crave more soda. I would forget to eat because the need for the soda took over. I am actually 20 days into soda abstinence and I tell ya, even though I might not be losing weight like I thought I would (you know, the whole commercial about how the woman quit drinking it and lost a little weight, but her hubby quit and lost a lot... cant' remember which one it was) ... anyway my point is I feel better, I move easier, I breathe better hell I even sleep better! Now all I drink is my religious coffee in the morning, orange and mango juice, milk and water all day long. Yay me!

I have had to cut soda (with the exception of sparkling water) out completely because they would trigger cravings for junk food for me. I haven't had a soda since July 31st of last year.

Bev, they also sell Hansen's at Fresh & Easy (if you have them where you are). I haven't been in a Sprouts yet. I was in the chain they bought out and didn't care much for it. Hansen's only come in cans, so no double portions. They are very good, but like all cold drinks they have sugar in them. I usually keep a couple of cans of their Ginger Ale, made with "Real Cane Sugar" for a splurge day (in the summer).

Most of the time I drink decaf. tea (Earl Gray or Chai flavored) when it's cold, and water the rest of the time.

Time to wrap for this day. Been working since early this AM - really tired.

Shelly - Good for you. I stopped sodas altogether and only drink hot green tea and water. I think more and more people are finding out how harmful those sodas can be, even one a day. Someone told me about Hansen's which is all natural. I know they sell them at SPROUTS, so I might check one out. Still not keen on them at all, don't trust them. I know as a WW I check the servings and surprising most of them are two servings so you have to double what the nutritional count is. Most people don't check that. Bev

I am hearing more and more often about the fact that diet drinks (synthetic sugar in any food) is really bad for us. Not only Alzheimer's, but also affects the kidneys and other parts of the body (I don't remember the whole story). For the person who drinks one soda a day and doesn't get any cravings - you have already satisfied your craving. Each bottle of soda is 2 servings - have you ever looked at the calorie count on them? I love Cherry 7-Up - drank it every day, until I checked the calorie count shown on the bottle. Now I stick to water and tea.

I haven't had any sodas in years. Just drink water with lemon. Read an article from Dr Blaylock and he stated in his research people that drink sodas tend to get Alzheimers. Asked my cousin who does seiminars on Alzheimers if she heard of it and she did, glad I don't drink them. Also read that dark sodas will tend to form kidney stones. My son had them, passed them and now drinks white sodas (7-up, Mountain Dew) never had another problem. I am sure everyone is different and if we look into all foods they are all bad for us in one way or another. My dad died from Alzheimers and drank sodas every day. You never know, there are some people that drink them and never have the problem, same as people that never smoke die from lung cancer. Go figure. Life is a crap shoot and you never know how the dice will roll. OK off my soapbox for today LOL Bev

I still drink a lot of pop, but I haven't noticed that it makes me want to have more sweets than normal.

Blessed be.

I drink any kind of soda very rarely. I much prefer mixing lemon juice into a glass of water.

I used to drink diet soda but I gave it up after I had a stroke. Soda made me go to the bathroom too much, especially when combined with high blood pressure medication.

I don't drink any sodas at all anymore. When I did, even it it was diet soda, I craved sweets or other carbs. Once I cut them out completely, I have fewer cravings.

Another reason I cut out sodas was the problem with gas & bloating - neither of which was very pleasant. Since I stopped drinking soda, I don't have that problem anymore, unless I eat a lot of beans or cabbage.

Diet soda doesn't seem to bother me as far as cravings, but then again one bottle of diet coke lasts me for 2-3 meals.

I have a question for you to consider. When you drink sodas, does it increase your cravings for food? In addition, what soda do you drink?

I drink caffeine free, diet sodas. I do think I have more cravings for food after I drink one.

Thanks!
