While my husband was in the hospital and 3 weeks for physical rehab and the possibility of more long-term care - I was really moaning and groaning and feeling sorry for myself and him (but must confess - more for myself). Trying to teach, see him, and take care of my elderly mother who lives with me was just too overwhelming at times and I'd just have to retreat to my bedroom for a good cry, venting, and just generally feeling sorry for myself. Took too much refuge in comfort foods at the time, so now I must get busy and get on with losing the weight. My husband is home now, but it's not been much easier and just as stressful, but I am managing the emotions better now and dealing with things that aren't going to change in the foreseeable future as well as I can. At the same time, I'm figuring out how to take time for myself and do what needs to be done for me! Dealing with my own medical issues (RA) at the same time wasn't easy either, but I did manage to avoid a major flare during all of this so there is definitely something to be said for that!

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass; it is about learning to dance in the rain!

NOPE, Not me! I've been battling mild to Moderate Osteo Arthrtis in my left knee since 2006 when I found out I had it though a torn Meniscus Surgery, One thing I told myself is to not complain, whine, cry, roll or have self pity on myself. And most importantly is never, ever give up on the things that you enjoy doing in life... My life passion is Fitness, no matter how much it hurts, how much I it slows me down, I keep going! I Run, I walk, and I Bike when ever I can. Done many 5k & 10K races and 2 1/2 Marathons, currently Training for my 3rd.

Though I do have my limits, The time it takes to train and the distances you have to build up to, a Full Marathon is not in my Plans for the Future. I want to be able to focus more on the shorter distances and do other kinds of Fitness with Running that will help me to keep in shape and keep active.

I think one of the main things I noticed with my Arthritis is that I have to keep moving, Sitting around not doing anything is not always the solution, be cause for me as long as I'm up and going I have no pain. It's when people tell me I can't do the things I want to do only makes me angry and more determined to for the Challenges for my Arthritis.

I take absolutly no perscription pain Drugs for my Arthritis... and very rarely I will get to the point of pain where I have to take a over the counter Drug like Ibprophen. I finding that a good soak in a Hot Tub of Ebson Salts usually does the trick after a long run or hard work out.

I guess the bottom line is I don't baby myself with it or by giving up the things in life I love doing...

Peggy

I have had bilateral knee replacements and it was one of the best things I ever did (next to SparksPeople). As long as you do your exercises as instructed to do, on your own and PT, you'll do great!!!!!! I have more bend in my knee than most people have that have never had a knee replacement according to my doctor. No, you aren't suppose to get down on your new after having a knee replacement but there are ways around it. Walking will be one of your best exercises for your new knee as well as a pool in time. Be sure to ice your knee down after your exercises - - it will help tremendously with the pain and swelling as well as keeping it elevated.

Angelbabies.....
Hang in there. I know many pepple who had knee replacements.....and most of them said it was well worth it in the end! Take whateverr pain meds you need and, hopefully, the pain will decrease!
Ouch!!!!! It hurts.....I know. But it WILL get better.

Big hugs,

Sometimes we just need a good vent or cry to get rid of the frustration! I was a runner, but due to OA in my shoulder, knees and hips, no more running. I love water aerobics as it so nice on the joints. I also started riding my bike as it is no impact and the doctor said it was okay.

We are all here to support each other on our journies.

Live long and prosper

Oh yes, my dear -- we all know pain. And it's alright to vent and whine once in a while!! I have a lupus-like inflammatory arthritis all over my body --- I live on opiate pain killers -- I've had cancer, blood diseases, blood clots -- and much more. Yeah....I say 'you play the hand you're dealt'......but sometimes, the reality of it all gets to me.....and I have to 'kvetch'..... Thank heaven we have this forum of unconditionally loving people to complain to. But they won't coddle you.....they'll give you support and suggestions and love. Listen closely -- there's lots of wisdom here.

Pain is a lonely experience....no one can feel YOUR pain. But there are remedies, alternatives and new meds to investigate. None of us is helpless.....even when we feel we are.

You have a great spirit.....Go for it....whatever 'it' is!! I used to walk 5-6 miles a day -- now, there are days I can barely walk a block. But -- I've come to accept my new reality (not easy) and along with acceptance, comes a little peace of mind. (and...I've managed to lose almost 40 pounds over the past 1 1/2 years!)

Hang in there....do what you can.....get some PT.....let a therapist design an exercise program for you-----and go out and attack life!!!!

Sometimes we just need to vent to let out our frustrations. We're all here for you. Water aerobics are good. They are easy on the joints. I too understand your pain. I have had both my knees replaced. You can do this. We're all here for you. Good luck in your healthy lifestyle journey.

You can vent here all you want! We'll listen to you and let you know if you're out of line--which you aren't, by the way!

emoticon aerobics is a good way to exercise when you can't do the walking. I have had both total knee replacements, fibromyalgia, fybrocystics disease in my breasts, a breast reduction done where they took 5 lbs off each side and deteriating discs in my back. I know all about the whinning, crying, sniffling etc. emoticon and keep our journey going. I have been in Sparks since the end of January 2012 and I have screwed up a lot and kept going. Nobody is perfect so keep going. you are worth it. emoticon emoticon emoticon

There ARE other cardio exercises you can do - even while sitting in a chair!! Try putting on some music - preferably with a good beat. You can sit, but march on the spot to the music (pressure is removed from the knees this way), you can get a teatowel or scarf and swing it in the air - there are lots of things you can do. Check out chair exercises on SP :-) Maybe it is a bit of depression that is partly causing your mood at the moment - pain and not being able to do things we would like to be able to do can influence this considerably!

Take care and know that it is best to sensibly wait it out rather than push ahead and do more harm.

I have been a member of this team for a short while...reading from the side lines.

I'm miserable, cranky, whiny, feeling sorry for myself! Along with going through menopause I'm just flipping peachy? Lol, I know not to take myself to seriously, but I do sway away from sane thinking.?

I got on Spark, and did the 8 week diabetic week challenge right away! It was awesome, lost 12 pounds and 13 1/2 inches!! I went from walking 13 minutes to being able to walk 2-5 miles a day. I enjoyed it, walking wasn't work, it was fun and danced, walked to "The Gummy Bear Song"........

Anyway week 7 my knees were really feeling odd, and painful. I thought I was doing to much did the ice and heat bla bla bla.............

Doctors/ Surgeons - MRI, cat scan and.........Arthritis.............Wonderfu
l! NOT!!!! Pain Sux balls! They put Synovis (Spelling) in it. Oh that was a treat!! It's been 3 weeks and I'm just a big baby! So many of you seem to have accepted this? I'm trying... but failing.

Told to stop walking for exercise?!! I cried"Darn it I was doing well, on my way to a healthier me?? I know there is other cardio to do. NOT sure exactly but..... I know I should be great ful. there are far worse conditions I could have? But I'm just not! I'm foot stomping, arms throwing, throwing a dang tantrum!! emoticon

Well? I am smiling now? emoticon Thanks for having a place I can just VENT!

Prayers and Hugs to all of you who go through this on a daily basis, over and over. God Bless
