Prednisone is great stuff hopefully it helps you out. Sorry your RA doc had no personality but it sounds like he did listen to you and gave you a chance to ask questions. Now we'll just pray you get some answers to your pain. Feel Better soon.....

Saw the rheumatologist Tuesday. There was no eye contact and zilch personality but he asked lots of question, did a long exam of my hands and feet, ordered xrays, drew blood and said it if was all negative wld order an MRI since this may be early RA.

He gave me a chance to ask questions which I had written down...smile. Can't get in for the follow-up results till Aug 1st but my sweet husband will call everyday to check for a cancellation.

I ended up in the ER Fri June 30 for pain after several cortisone injections a few days earlier. Seems I had a reaction to the cortisone. Glad I went in because I had no idea my bp was over 200 from the pain. Now I am on prednisone and watching my bp.

Rest and I hope the prednisone are helping. This is the most typing I have done for a week and need to stop soon : ) Thanks everyone for the advice!!!!

I agree with LARA write down all your questions and concerns don't let the doctor rush you. YOUR paying them for answers. I hate when a doctor comes in late and rushes through everything because they're behind. Stop them ask your questions and get your answers. If they are not willing to give you answers then see a different doctor that you feel comfortable with.

Thanks for the encouragement. I am a great advocate for my family members but lousy when it comes to myself. Writing it all down is a good idea. I saw a hand doc this week and I do feel she rushed me. Problems with my hands is new and I have trigger finger in 6 fingers. When I asked her what was the cause she said genetics. I need a better answer than that. We are an hour from Johns Hopkins and that will be my next step if I am not satisfied.

I knew I had OA when I had my first appointment with a Rheumatologist. I got lucky and she was nice, open, and willing to answer any questions I had. She was also the one that ordered the MRI for me and come to find out I don't have OA in my spine, the pain was coming from two herniated disks. I do have OA in both knees.

I would just suggest you make a list of questions to ask so you don't forget. Sometimes when a doctor answers a question it takes your mind off track and you don't ask all your questions. Be totally honest about the pain you are experiencing. If your doctor rushes you or is unwilling to answer your questions then I suggest you find another doctor.

Let us know how it goes.

I have my first appointment with a rheumatologist July 7th. Any tips?

My PCP wants me to explore all of my joint pain with a rheumatologist plus fatigue and chronic hives. My hands and feet have started having problems along with shoulders and elbows.

Neck has been awful for 2 years and just had an MRI this week. Saw a doc 2 years ago but all he did was xrays, gave me a traction machine and told me I did not need to see him again. Found a new spine doc I like.

Anyway really want to communicate will with rheumatologist and see if he can give me the whole picture. Is this RA? Ostoearthritis? FM? Other? or a combo?

Any tips?
