I am going to try water aerobics. My orthopedist strongly suggested it. I got my swimsuit yesterday from Land's end. I am an online shopper. Point, Click and Ship. I can't remember the last time I was in a mall...but I digress.
I am going to try one class at the gym before buying a membership. I'll let you know how I do. The pool is 4ft. deep so I guess that is shallow water aerobics. This is a whole new realm for me. I have been a "dry lander" exerciser up til now. I still try to do ten minutes of walking at lunchtime if the weather is good and the work pile isn't to high.
I wish I go apply the same work ethic to taking care of myself as I do in my job and taking care of other people.
Something to keep in mind with water aerobics. 20 minutes of activity is the equivalent of an hour on land. So start small!. :D Also if you are in a heated pool you shouldn't be working as hard as in a non-heated pool. Takes less to get your heart rate up.

My rheumatologist suggested I get back in to water aerobics. I was doing it 3x wk. up until last year. RA has really been kicking my butt. I know that as I lose weight, it will get better. I had a total left knee replacement in 2006, and now, my right knee needs done. OS wants me to take as much weight off as I possibly can before we do this. It will be much better for me and him. I'm on methotrexate ( 8 tabs once a week ), Enbrel, and will be starting Remicade IV in July. The only thing that reall takes the edge off is Prednisone 60mg every day. I stopped taking those, They made me feel extremely weird. Roid rage!! Not good. I work full time as a nurse and most days RA kicks my butt. But, so far, I've been able to fight through it. I did start water aerobics back again, but, it's not like before.
