Off to a good start to the new week. Doing my morning walking laps around the basketball court I did 5 consecutive laps doing a slow jog. (Very slow jog but none the less a jog). I'm trying to pick the pace up a little and I did it.

Did not sleep well last night. Overslept 1/2 hour this morning. Lower back is hurting. Not sure what I did with the back. I still pushed through it and got a 1 mile walk in this morning before work. (I usually get 1.5 to 2 miles in)
I have osteoarthritis in the knees so not sure what is going on with the back. Knees feel pretty good.

Very tired now and I want to go home and go to bed. Usually I just work 3.5 hours and I done but today I doing a little extra time. So the bed will have to wait.

thanks for listening. Hope the rest of you are doing well.

Thanks for the tip. The doc said I need to go to physical therapy but no time as we're moving next week. Standing up so much packing hasn't helped. I'm hoping to find a physical therapist near Pensacola once we get there who can help with this.

plantar fasciitis is what I was diagnosed with one time (in the foot). I walked on it for weeks and finally thought I might have a broken foot. When I went to the specialist, that is what I was diagnosed with and went through (2) rounds of prednisone. I'm happy to say that I have not had a problem since and it has been over 5 years.

Hope this helps.

It's tough when multiple chronic conditions raise their very ugly heads. Sometimes I find that things that had seemed so frightening almost fade in the memory as new ones emerge. Arthritis is tough, add in an allergic factor and it's tougher.

Right now I have tendinitis in the foot, but wondering if it's also arthritis, as my foot hurts and can hardly walk 1st thing in the am, but then it eases.

Talk about complications. The doc prescribed an ankle brace for my foot, but it aggravated a skin condition, leaving me with a sore, red lower shin. I have 2 skin conditions and have to guess which one it is. Sometimes it gets overwhelming, but the best choice is to just keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Hope you get some of your conditions sorted out and the docs come up with a good solution.

I have allergic asthma in addition to this arthritis problem. Prednisone for the asthma helps the arthritis but prednisone has many side effects.

Thank you for the reply. I don't take anti-inflammatories but I am on blood pressure meds. I'm going to get some new blood work done and found some info on the web about this condition and suggests dehydration and low salt. Orthostatic intolerance is the name.

Anti-inflammatories if taken for arthritis can lead to gastric problems, thats why they shouldnt be taken on an empty stomach.
Dizziness when standing may be blood pressure related, so you might need to go to a doctor and have it checked out.

Cheers

I have a question. Does anyone get an upset stomach and feel like you will pass out if you stand for a period of time? I'm having a rough time and wondering if this goes along with arthritis.

I need your help Please! I have suffered from RA since 1992. It is the most aggressive kind. I have been on all the meds. Orencia is my last one but has stopped working after 6+ years. Now my doc wants to put me on Rituxan/rituximab. I am very, very concerned about the side effects of this drug. It kills off all of your B cells and the F cells have no idea your body has an infection. So no infections are stopped. This can mean infections run rampant in your body. The worse case is it can take over your brain and your body becomes a veggie.
Has anyone been on this drug?? Can anyone give me some help? Side effects? fears? Infections? I have to know right away they want to start it next week.
Thank you so much for understanding.

It might have something to do with the weather. I've been back in St Louis for 3 months, heading back to Florida in January. I feel much better in Florida---I guess the warmth helps. No matter how many cardio exercises I do here, if I don't do the exercises given me by the physical therapist for my back (arthritis in the back), it really gets to me. The longest I can lay off is a day, otherwise I have mobility problems.

I have actually been surprised lately that my arthritis has been bothering me more than usual. I exercise at least 30 minutes every day. I know the weather is beginning to change, but this is unexpected because of my daily exercise. I take Alieve for it once in a while, and that usually helps.

Nothing Is Impossible with God.

Spark People Team Leader, GLITTERGIRL, from Team, "I Can't Do This On My Own", helped me reach my goal in 2012. I was able to maintain my weight for several months, but now I have to get serious again as much of my hard work I let go of, putting my focus on another issue. I will keep on, until I get back to my goal.

Steph, I just read your comments and your thoughts really help me at looking at moving my body. I am a recovering food addict and I have never really enjoyed exercising. However, once I start on a nice walk, it starts to feel good. I have become pretty arthritic in my later years and I just try and get up after sitting for a couple of hours and I am having a hard time, I take it slow and then I can move.

I am going to join a Silver Sneakers group at the YMCA so I will be in an enjoyable group to exercise. I see you are having fun golfing and FUN is a key to exercise. Maybe one day I will find other activities I think will be fun and engage so I move my body.

I AM A FOOD ADDICT. LOSING MY WEIGHT IS LIFE CHANGING. HERE I GO!

Good luck with that 2nd knee. I've had both done and the 2nd wasn't as bad. It helped that I had a better doc the 2nd time. Keep up the good work and stay with that PT. The therapists are your friends. I lost my greyhound to cancer after the knee surgery, while still in PT. My therapist connected me to a great rescue group in Ft Myers, Florida, so we were able to get our sweet Bella Blue. Her quiet sweetness helped in my recovery.

Now have arthritis in the back, so stretching and doing my PT exercises every day are necessar.

@paulagriffith75 - yes, we do suffer as the barometric pressure changes. Sometimes it is unbearable without some sort of medicated help - I try to go as long as I can without it. I've got it in both of my knees, my husband has it in both of his hips, knees, and ankles.

Yup. Just had my second knee replacement. First day of therapy today. Was scared because the therapy really hurts. But surprise surprise my knee felt GREAT afterwards. Was very relieved and pleased. What had helped is I never stopped doing my PT exercises from the last one. That is very important. Also to make your exercises your job while home on recovery. It is so worth it after all is said and done.

We can do this!

Artielle,

we hope you feel better soon.

Also have been in the grip of a flare-up since Early January and had full force of side effects last week as well. Now things seem to settle in and during the day the pain is manageable. Just starts from early evening to hit full force again.

I triggered my RA by overtraining, when I did my first marathon and then foolishly a short race a week later.

Fibro & RA are the same disease group, so you will see many similarities.

Hello peeps! Like some of you, my RA was also triggered by an event, I got Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever when I was 26. Is it common to be triggered? I know that's how Fibro is often started. The weather is beating me up, however, I'm on the path to healing... I guess. Not that it's curable.

Hi everyone,

Believe me exercise is essential to keep your joints flexible & strengthen them as long as possible. Find good shoes that support your foot where you need it and keep moving.

I am in the middle of a flare up, but still managed to play golf yesterday. I have 2 pairs of golf shoes and realized the tighter ones give me the support my big toes need when I am in a flare up. I also do not hit the ball as hard as I would try at other times. Who cares if I score or not. I am out there to have fun.... LOL

Good news:
The swelling on my index fingers, is so far only cartilage and not bony yet. So my Doctor has decided to give me some new medicines on top, which hopefully help to control this.

It's very chilly here and I'm reluctant to even venture outside. There's a woman in my neighborhood that really inspires me. She has terrible arthritis but has taken on a paper route to keep in shape. Plus she walks 3 dogs (plus her own)--- all a different times. Sometimes when I can't get out of bed I think of her. emoticon

my mom got RA when she was 27, my dad when he was in his 50's and i was diagnosed at 42. Sometimes i just wonder how i am going to get out of bed, but then i think about my Mom and how she has two small kids and never gave in or stopped going.. so i try to just get out of bed and get on with the day.. sometimes in tears.
Stretching and meditation really seem to help. I also try to have one really good laugh a day (at least) because sometimes when i laugh i can not think so much about the pain

We are all connected

Hi Ellen,

that picture is a few years old, taken when I was 44. I had then gene for RA in me, runs in the family and triggered it when i was 37 by overtraining for a marathon & then doing a race too soon after the full marathon. Would have gotten it later in life anyway.
I do manage to control it with exercise & diet most of the time, but do get attacks especially during the cold season. Luckily I have managed so well that so far I have little permanent joint damage and hope to maintain this as long as possible. Right now it is only my big toes that have some deformation, but the joint is not yet destroyed. The big toes were the first to be affected. But some of the finger joints are going towards permanent damage as well.

Have a good day all

8HABIT Like you, I have not been here for months. And I am bone on bone in one knee and looking at a knee replacement soon. Trying to get back to my routine here on SP and lose some weight before I have the surgery. Also glad we have Medicare to help us out with all the problems caused by arthritis as we age.

Maybe we can compare notes along the way here. Take care.

You look very young to have arthritis. I hope it is not too bad.

I have a friend who is working on her Masters degree in hospital management. Is that similar to your degree?

I actually did a lot of research on Medicare during my studies when I did the BBA in healthcare management. I thought that a very interesting model. Good for you!

Steph- Actually it is knee replacements, not hip and since I am over 65, I am lucky to have Medicare. I am so glad that our government put this in-place for seniors almost 50 years ago.

8HABIT,

so sorry to hear about you needing hip replacements. Do you have health insurance that covers it? Do they have waiting periods where you are?

I know quite a number of people who had it done successfully and are doing much better now.

Hi Blakqwen I am back after a long time too. I have RA, diabetes, and osteoporosis. I knew I had to get back to exercising .I hope to loss weight too. But diets never work for me. I have to learn to eat right . Stay away from junk food. That is hard for me. I swim now and do Zumba Gold. That is for people who can not do real Zumba. Ha Ha It is fun. It is a hour long and a good work out for me. I live in Pennsylvania. The weather is getting nice now. So I will walk now too. Do you try chair exercise at all. I saw some good ones on Spark.

Hi Cupbutter. I did my swim today. It is nice again here today. Losing weight is hard.Right now I am trying to just get more exercise and feel better . I will have to start watching what I eat more soon I know. But I will eat regular food. I will think more of healthy eating then a diet. I would not stay on a diet. Eating healthy can help the weight thing a lot. I just have to stay away from junk food. I would loss a lot just doing that I think. I am trying lately to eat better snacks like fruit. I drink a lot of water too. Does the water ever get high where you live? Sounds scary if it got high. Write later. Take Care.

Hi Snow. This used to be quite a nice team and then everyone dropped out. We used to get a lot of good info. Yes I live near the water. LOL. The Androscogin River. Sometimes we have a boat go by but we have rapids and we have more people in kayaks fighting the rapids.

I have started taking ginger and turmeric pills. Something is working for me. Today I have not had pain hardly at all. I mowed yesterday on the riding mower and usually it really hurts. Just started going to the chiropractor think he is helping as well. I am feeling really good. All that is wrong with me is arthritis. If I didn't have any pain nothing would stop me. When its hurts to move it is not fun.

It soooo hard trying to loose weight. I am on the paleo diet and counting points as well. Its working a little I have lost 4 lbs. So slow.

The lady in my picture is another Sparker. She came to visit me. It was so much fun. I have also met another Spark Lady when we went to Fla. Such nice people.

Hey, I am writing a book.

Hi The weather was nice today here too. In the 70's. Maybe things are getting better weather wise here too.. Your dog sounds like a cutey . I; was doing the 180 minutes of exercise challenge with this team. Is this a team anymore? Anyway nice to meet you. I did the Zumba today. But I am sore today from the class. Just cut up a watermelon. I like a snack before bed I am a diabetic My sugar drops at night if I do not eat something.I am weak though. I eat things I should not a lot too. It is hard to eat healthy sometimes.Do you live near the water? Like where the boats go out to fish? Well take care.

I have a little Pomeranian. Buttercup. Such a good little dog. She is going to be 8 in June. My DD bought her for me when my little black and white one died.

What a beautiful day here. I think we may hit 70. For the first time I put on flip flops.

Wanted to take the dogs for a walk but they were too hot and didn't want to go. So we came back. There goes my exercise. I will find something else to do.

So Penn. is cold too. Seems it would be hot there by now.

Hi Cupbutter. I live in Pennsylvania. Spring is having a hard time getting started here too. Cold and rain. Hope it warms up soon. Sounds like you do a lot of exercise for 80. That is great. What kind of dog do you have ? Well I am headed for Zumba Gold. I do that and swim for my exercise. I will walk to when it warms up a little. Take care.

Hi Snow.

It was 65 here today. 39 this morning when I woke up. Been very cold here in Maine

Where do you live? I have been on sparks for about 6 or 7 years. I did good at the beginning. Now I have all went to heck. From 104 to 128. Wonderful.

For exercise I do Denise Austin, take my dogs for walks shovel snow and mow the lawn. I also do Mike Ross for older people. I will be 80 in Dec. I have 2 torn rotator cuffs which make my life interesting.

My arthritis makes it hard for me to walk. Quite painful. I take celebrex and gabapentin.

Got to brush my teeth and my dogs teeth then settle down for the night.

Hey, You have a wonderful evening.

Hi cupbutter. What is otho arthritis? I know there is like 100 different kinds of arthritis . Can you exercise with that? I swim and do Zumba Gold. That is for older people or people who cannot do the regular Zumba. That was to much jumping around and fast moving for me. Is it warming up where you live? Does cold weather bother you? How long have you been on Spark People? I just came back myself.

I have RA. I had some severe flareups. The pain is so bad I can hardly move when that happens. I take good medicine now and feel better now. But I have been hearing a lot about gout lately. Everyone I know that had it said you would not believe the pain. I hope I do not get it. Hope you find something to help out with the pain.

Hello Everyone, I have been gone a very long time, kinda fell off the wagon for awhile.
I am back now, looking forward to meeting new friends and gettng advice and tips on how to stay motivated to try and lose some weight to help ease my joints and back.

I have severe osteoarthritis or as they call it DJD in both knees and DDD in my lower back and my rt hip. So you can imagine at my current weight it's difficult to exercise effectively for any period od prolonged time without a lot of pain at sometime from somewhere.
