I'm still having food difficulties, but I'm getting my 10,000 steps in more often and am starting to get out and walk again (the cold is hard on an old lady).

Worked out this morning and made consistently healthful food choices.

Went for a bike ride today when I really felt like just being a slug on the couch....it was a great ride and a great day! I stayed in range on my nutrition tracker and I'm feeling the exercise afterburn....it's all good!

On new Year's eve at a friend's party, I unconsciously chose to fill my plate with salad rather than piles of pasta...Realised while eating it that I have reached a stage where I choose the healthier option....Or at least for the moment.

I bought some shortbread and biscotti but rationed them to myself. Otherwise treats have been fruit. Its summer in AU which means summer fruit that I love. We get cherries twice a year local in summer and from California in winter woohoo!

I dumped the rest of the cookies in the garbage. They were too tempting. My 8 yr old made a sad face, but I promised her that I would buy her a treat later.

I'm heading down to my parents to celebrate my husband's big 3-0. Tonight they are getting Chinese, and then tomorrow we are going to a burger joint. I have a rough estimate of how many calories the Chinese will cost me. I should still meet all my nutrition goals for the day which is one challenge down.

I plan on just getting a mini-burger tomorrow and a side salad. I'm hoping it won't bring on any extra cravings. Good luck this weekend everyone!

Had a rough day yesterday. Went to a pizzeria with my family. I had a salad, but the pizza and cannoli were tempting. I only had a bite of each, but it made me crave sugar and starch all night.
Back on track with my low carb regime today. Going to make myself some scrambled eggs and cheese.

We had fajitas for dinner - although I decided to avoid the while flour tortillas altogether and just ate mine with a fork & knife. I got to have two "fajitas" worth of the mix instead of one fajita's worth with a tortilla. Much more filling and nutritious!

Today was "ice cream & popsicle wednesday" at work, which happens all summer. I usually go for one of those ice cream cones (similar to drumstick) which clock in at ~200 calories, of course. Today I went for a Del Monte Real Fruit popsicle, which was only 50. I got to socialize with my co-workers and enjoy a cool sweet treat, more or less guilt free! I didn't even feel deprived like I thought I would.

Also, just now, my husband made dinner - spaghetti bolognese. I made a salad so that I could enjoy a smaller portion. It worked, I came in under my calories. At the same time, my homemade salad dressing is rather high in calories so I'm going to have to take a look at alternatives that use less olive oil...

I got up early only to find the promised open cardio run locked. Instead of pouting or throwing a fit, I returned to my apartment and did a 30 minute exercise DVD, thus discovering that my new apartment living room is not too small to exercise in. Who knew? (I also discovered that I am more out of shape than I expected.) I'm expecting more better choices to change that!

This is the last time I'm losing this weight.

Woo hoo... I've got lots of better choices to share today emoticon

We moved on Thursday (finished moving at midnight o.O). I love our new apartment. Our living room is bigger so there's actually room for me to move around while using the Wii My Fitness Coach. I'm just finishing up breakfast then I'm going to exercise.

I deliberately let us run almost out of food before our move and have overhauled our kitchen. All the food going into our kitchen has plain food ingredients. No modified ingredients, no chemicals, just food.

And the absolute best part about our new place is we have an indoor pool and gym in the basement. Last night I used the elliptical for 20 minutes then went for a 20 minute swim then hit the sauna... and I'm going to do that tonight too.

And the sun just came out!!! Not a better choice, it's just been cold and raining since Friday LOL

Got in 30 minutes on the stationary bike this afternoon, but went over on nutrition (way over - had Chinese food for dinner, decent portions but still up there on calories & fat)....so got back on the bike. First day this week I wasn't in range on the nutrition tracker.

Thank you, Pam, for the followup on the TRX straps. I went for a similar thing and the workout is something else!

TOTHEFUTURE1--good luck in your quest. In the meantime, even the small steps are in themselves a total success. It's weird how they build up. I had a winter of being snowed in a couple of years ago and got no running in. I just walked in the building and climbed steps when I could. I had the best spring of running I'd ever had. Just the calm and steady movement actually resulted in startlingly good improvements. I was stunned, so take heart.

My better choice for today was to skip making the margarita with the lime on my counter. I'm really trying to not calm down after work with a drink, and it's going well.

I went out to a Thai restaurant with my parents for lunch today. Their lunch special is huge. A bowl of soup or a salad followed by curry with either noodles or rice (depending on the curry) and two vegetable spring rolls. I ordered a mango salad and a bowl of hot and sour soup instead.

About the TRX.... I started using it in physical therapy this fall and kept using it when I transitioned from PT to a "wellness" program (sort of a step down from PT, but more support than a gym). My goal was to be able to resume 100% workouts from home by 2012. So I've been using it for about 4 months or so and it has become a core part of my training routines. It is very versatile - you can increase the challenge at your own pace as needed. I believe Santa prepared in advance and purchased it from the TRX website when there was a discount. It may still be offered, I don't know. I had individual instruction for the exercises, but it came with a dvd that gave good instructions (with demo) and it looks like there is a lot of support if you register your TRX on the website.

I met my goal and am leaving the wellness program in a few days (end of year). So I am happy to have met that milestone! Having the TRX to incorporate into my home training program will be a big help.

Good, wonderful Santa! Will you blog or post about your impression of the TRX on using it? I'm wanting to get it after the new year from Amazon, when I get rewards points for buying from Amazon via Chase CC. But I'm also nervous about how useable it is, if you need to have a lot of room away from the door and so on.

Where did Santa pick it up? Online?

Nice job controlling those vices and getting in the workout! I got in some extra walks, nordic track skier, and stationary bike. Overindulged on calories and fat on the 25th, but not by much. Santa brought me a TRX suspension system, so I am psyched.

I whacked out tired from being up too late preparing Christmas for my child and then up too early. Well, also because I DID indulge in sweets at my friend's on Christmas Eve: a gluten-free cake she was desperate for me to try, that WAS really good, but I just don't handle sugar well. Anyway, today at my sister's, I really pushed the raw veggies and chose proteins, and had none of the cookies or sweets. Did have a small shot of the vodka plain on a full stomach, but basically took it easy on the vices otherwise. Off to bed early now.

Thanks for the support - it is very much appreciated. I did not quite make my goal today, I was over on the calories by about 60, in range on the rest. And I knew I was going to be over - all the tempting stuff was still there and I battled by eating a little too much of healthier stuff - extra fruit and a large lunch (goat curry and rice - yum). Got in the 30 minute walk again. Tomorrow will be a long day - early shift and then I am on call all night tomorrow, so I may not even log in to track my intake until Fri. But today was much better than yesterday and I feel much more on track again.

Pam - I know the feeling. It is easy to get down on ourselves for having a bad day. But feeling guilty won't prevent you from doing it again. Try to accept that you are going to have bad days - at least a few and maybe many of them. If the good days substantially outnumber the bad days, you will progress toward your goals.
Try to look back at the situation and figure out how you can avoid it in the future.
You are doing great!

Owning and moving on is a good choice. And I'm frankly impressed with a 30 minute walk break given the way I recall your work has been really demanding a lot of you lately!

I left my desk 3 times today, the longest walk was 500 steps, because I was stuck on a 6 hour bridge call due to technical difficulties for our users. Then, fast food and ice cream for my daughter and me because I worked so late I had little time before her Brownie meeting... talk about caving!

I'm here to just celebrate you all, because I've nothing to post today except that I WILL get to bed before 10 tonight. It'll go better tomorrow... emoticon

Today I really caved. I cannot remember the last time this has happened. Too many very tempting snacks and too much stress. So....I chose to set some mini goals for Wed, Thurs, and Fri to help avoid this happening again (the work situation is scheduled to stay the same all week). My mini goals for the rest of the work week? Stay in range on the nutrition tracker! I did also decided to spend my one break at work today walking (30 minutes) and will get in 30 minutes on my skier tonight, but it is not enough to overcome the guilt. I just have to own it and move on.

You are right - sleep is critical to weight loss and good health in general. I try to make sure that I get at least 7 hours on week nights and 8 hours on the weekend.

I chose to sleep in until I got my full 8 hours or so this morning, rather than fret about "the sun is up! And I've got so much to do!"

Sleep, I'm discovering, is HUGE. So, I chose sleep. I'm a bit behind on some plans, but I feel great.

Today I chose to walk right by the very tempting holiday cake somone brought in. Since it was placed in very close proximity to my cube, I had to make this choice over and over again. And I did! So far, I have been in range on my nutrition tracker all week.

Made two good choices today

I stepped on the scale this a.m. Not good, but I needed to face up to the facts.

And that choice inspired me to make another good choice - to take the stairs at work. Three times!

Sometimes that special treat just makes you know you can live healthy most times. I'm looking forward to a decadent Indian food meal the night of the 16th with my bookclub. I ain't holding back!

I stumbled at lunch and got General Tsao's chicken, with steamed rice. I know it wasn't the smart choice. On the other hand, it's been ages since I've had Chinese food and I don't feel too guilty. I did fit in a 30 minute walk and made it to the gym for a pretty decent workout.

And lunch was SOOOOOOO good!

After getting off track because of conference travel, Thanksgiving, and a stupid cold, I made it back on my stair stepper this morning and stepped through an episode of "24."

Usually I don't work out at home, I hit the gym or the trail 3-5 days a week, always on weekdays. This evening I hit the airbike in the basement for a killer hour. And didn't eat as much Chinese food as usual afterwards.

When in doubt, take a hike.

I got up this morning and exercised before heading off to work (I started at 6:30am). I worked 8.5 hours and, despite working at a doughnut store which has a very cheap employee food plan, I always bring my own lunch and snacks and brought healthy food (fresh blackberries, TLC seven grains crackers, low fat cream cheese, veggies, salad with homemade hemp dressing, tomato juice, homemade tofu and noodles in a peanut sauce and one Lindor chocolate and peanut butter ball... spread over morning snack and lunch). An apple to eat on the way home.

It was busy today too so I did lots of pouring coffee, changed garbages twice (going outside and throwing bags into the dumpster), filling sugar containers, and sweeping and mopping... so I got exercise at work too.

Now I've had dinner already and plan on being in bed by 9pm. I'm going to brush my teeth soon so I don't get tempted to snack later. I'm full so it would just be boredom snacking.

I ate 2.5 pieces of pizza (instead of more) and gave the crusts to my dogs.
Everyone was happy.

Living a healthier life does not require perfection in what we eat or how we exercise. The key is to try to make better choices every day.

I am creating this forum for us to celebrate whenever we make good choices - whether big or small.

I will begin by admitting that this was not one of my best days, but I did make one good choice. When I went to the vending machines at work to get a diet soda, I resisted the temptation to also purchase candy. A small victory, but in this season of excess, I will claim it.

What good choice did you make today?
