Tracking makes me feel more connected to the SP community, when I haven't been able to track due to travel, power outages, general craziness I start losing interest in SP overall. Since I'm so far from my goal, that's not acceptable. So I try to track regularly, but if I know there is some big challenge to it (like work travel, or a lengthy power outage), I don't worry about it - I just try to eat and exercise as usual.

Interesting about eating more simply - less variety - helping with weight loss.

For this of you who are interested, I an following the McDougall Plan (in fact am the leader of the team here at sparkpeople). I.kn having a lot of success, xoxo even while eating a huge variety of food on this vegan low fat way of eating. But I have a long way to go and was just reading about a variety of McDougall that is hadn't to be boring - lots of capture dense food, but the idea is that we'll consume fewer calories if we're a bit bored. Maybe that works especially week with a starch based plan like McDougall, because sugar cravings seen to disappear when we eat enough starch. If you're interested in knowing more, join the team , and of course check out drmcdougall.com adnd specifically search for "Mary's Mini".

Hi all. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one struggling to make the changes and track it all. Tracking is one of the hardest things for me. I can think of a million other things I'd rather do. It's been a zoo of a couple of months and tomorrow my husband has to have surgery to have his nose rebuilt. STRESS is my middle name.

How's everyone's 2012 weightloss going! I'm still working on really sticking with my exercise plan. I have decided to go to classes I love and build up from there instead of classes people say are teh most effective.

Hopefully, I can create some new habits!!

Totally in agreement there with Stormy. Food tracking is an awful lot of work. I think it's more important in the beginning of this journey, when you aren't as aware of the impact of your intake. I still track food, but I'm not religious about it -- I just do it for the SparkPoints these days. :) At the end of the day, I know an off day from a good day.

When in doubt, take a hike.

Since I'm new here, I will tell about getting off-track in a HUGE way.

On the Biggest Loser recently a doctor talked about how long it takes us to get used to eating well and how fast ---a week's vacation for example ----to get off track. In August, I went on a month-long trip to Brazil to visit old friends and former students from when I lived there 40 years ago. I knew I would not be able to weigh or measure food, but I figured I would make good choices and walk a lot to compensate for that, but...

One can never eat enough to please Brazilians. We would eat breakfast at our host's home, then she would drive us to other friend's homes where we would be fed again. People took us out to lunch or dinner with several visits at other homes in-between where we were given more food. I tried to eat as little as possible, yet be polite. We drove everywhere, rarely walked at all.

Later, at other destinations, my travel companions either walked very slowly (not my normal cardio pace) or took buses or taxis. We ate at many buffet-style restaurants where one pays by the kilo, so one can make good choices and pay only for what one takes. We spent an entire day on a river trip in a small boat (no walking that day) and spent several days taking 2-3 planes or a day-long bus from one destination to another. It was winter south of the equator, so not advisable to walk after dark (about 5:30) in strange cities.

Finally, the others went home. When on my own at my next destination I walked much more than my daily step goal and then at my last destination I stayed with a friend who had no car, so we walked most of the time.

Almost as soon as I got home, I had to travel again for a week ---and then I had an injury that kept me from working out for another week.

I was so good for 15 months ---lost 72 lbs. But my trip broke the spell. In Aug. and Sept, I gained 10 lbs.

Now ---I'm walking and working out. But I just cannot bear to take the time to measure, weigh, and track food again. I do not want to do it anymore. I'm still eating well (maybe not quite as well as previously) and lost about 2 lbs in the past 2 mo. I'm trying to get back to my July wt. by being careful and keeping active, even if it takes 10 mo. to lose 10 lbs. If I start to gain, I will have to measure again, but as of right now, I'm off the food-tracking rails.

Has anybody tried suspension training? I am transitioning from physical therapy to a wellness program (sort of cross between PT and independent workouts) and some of my exercises utilize TRX system. Since TRX is the only suspension system of tried, I'm wondering how other systems compare. I may get a system for home use down the line.

Thank you for the suggestions and well-wishes. I am progressing slowly but feel that I'm on a good path.

PAMSPARKS - I've seen a "Chair Exercise Group" mentioned around SP before - there are a lot of people that have mentioned having success with it - I think if you type the phrase I have in " ", a link will come up - also you could try some of the gentler yoga poses that don't work the injured area - may you feel better soon :)

I'm so terrible about keeping up with Spark. I get on a roll, then I get busy with other stuff and leave for awhile. But, I always come back! So here I am..again.

I've never been "allowed" to run or jog because of some issues I have with my eyes, but last week, randomly, my doctor gave me clearance and said I'm allowed to jog. Woohoo! This is amazing news because I'm so bored with cardio machines, and after I had my son a year and a half ago I don't have time for spin class anymore.

So, I started Couch to 5k last week. Sort of. I did 2 days of it then wussed out over the weekend because it was so hot. I need to get used to it if I'm going to run outside because it's going to be hot for awhile! I'm going to try to do week one all over again this week. Starting today.

To answer you Pamsparks, no I haven't had that type injury, but I hope that anyone who does seeks medical treatment immediately, and realizes that healing is the number one goal.

I have engaged to conquer Power 90... the prerequisite to P90X. I has been pretty tough. I have encountered workouts like this before but I have never been this sore in so many different places... It's great.

On day two..... hope to make it to day 90

So, today is my first tentative day back in the saddle. At least I haven't gained quite as much back as I had feared, and looking at my updated weight ticker, I realize that I'm still a good 25 pounds less than my all-time high. That's big for me, after a major de-railing like this. I usually get it all back plus an extra 10 for good measure.

Anyway, I have done well so far, eating well and a good variety. I plan to go for a walk tonight if the humidity is low enough to breathe in, and I finally got back to doing my morning stretches this morning, which felt great. Of course, if the humidity IS too bad, then I'd better have a backup plan.... half an hour of serious Wii tennis, I think. (I know, I know, serious plus Wii does not compute, but I do really get into it and will be winded at the end of the half hour. One day I came close to killing my TV, I was SO after that digital tennis ball!)

Be well all!

Lala

Hi all! I'm not entirely missing in action. I'm hanging about and reading posts, but haven't had the chance to make reasonable responses to anything for a while. The redux-ing has turned into maximizing for me, so I'm going in the wrong direction physically. I am working on some emo crap (that I'm not going to burden the group with), so with luck I'm going in the right direction emotionally.

But I'm taking a brief break from work to check in with my peeps and say hi - 'cos I'm knackered and wondering why the heck it isn't Friday yet! It's not even 5pm on Thursday yet (not here, anyway)!!!! Ugh...

How is everyone doing this week?

I went to boot camp once last week. My wrist is starting to heal. I had a bad day for food yesterday as we bbq'd and had apple pie. But have been on track otherwise!

Do alot of walking this weekend! We shopping on Friday and walked alot. Saturday went geocaching and then went geocaching again on Sunday walked over 6kms on Sunday, not sure how many Friday and Saturday.

Elimination diet is going well. I am reintroduing items still, currently on strawberries should be done introducing by the end of the week. Then I just need to get my portions under control and not fall off the wagon!

Bootcamp continues to the end of June and I need to get into Curves at least once a week once my wirst is totally healed! Soccer starts in 2 weeks as well so that should improve my cardio emoticon . I'm going hard for the next 3 months as my carribean vacation is three months away and I would like to be at the very least 145pounds

You had to mention mowing the lawn! My several acres are in desparate need of mowing but the weather is not behaving.

It's pouring rain today and 6C... and I've got a feverish son sleeping on the couch and a teenage daughter still sleeping who was complaining of an upset stomach last night.

I did exercise with the My Fitness Coach for a half hour this morning and, after hitting the walk in clinic, I've got a bunch of housework to do.

I took a couple days off work to make it a long weekend and the weather has really cooperated. After days of rain, yesterday was sunny and 70 and I took my dog for a nice long steep hike...wore us both out! I also got in some gardening (which really means weed-pulling at this point). Today it's sunny again and the high is supposed to be 60 so I'm taking my bike out. I think it's supposed to rain tomorrow again, so I'm making the most of outdoor exercise opportunities!

On Sunday I bought a new exercise mat and exercise ball. My daughter accidentally ripped a chunk off my old mat a while ago and it had a tendency to curl up while using it (and slide across the floor) and my exercise ball had several holes in it.

Yesterday I decided to get back on track with the Wii My Fitness Coach program so I've used it today and yesterday and will continue to use it for 15 minutes every morning.

I started a new blog last night (it's under my signature) and I'm hoping that writing daily positive and healthy information about myself will keep me on track.

And now I'm going to bake low-fat banana mixed berry muffins :o)

Got through the week, did not manage to keep nutrition in range everyday, but did not go over by much. Fitness is on track and today I did an extra 45 minutes on the ski machine today. Still....nothing to show for it on the scale. I've got to do better with managing my eating. Seems like I am hungry all the time these days.
