New year = new beginnings. Therefore, I am going to start a new 'Daily Check-in' thread for 2013. It will be called 'Roses and Thorns...2013' It is going to be placed as the #1 "sticky" in this forum. Share your highs (roses) and lows (thorns) of your day/week. Let's make an effort (myself, included!) to stay better connected on our team pages this year. Personally, I am going to try for at least one check-in per week.

emoticon Elizabeth for running our challenge emoticon you always come up with the best extra points category emoticon

Our DD had her 30th birthday party yesterday and the theme was "What's it gonna Bee?" She's pregnant with their 1st baby so it was a gender reveal party. Only the baker knew what she is carrying... so when she cut the Bee hive cake it was either chocolate inside if it was a boy or lemon if a girl emoticon

It's a BOY!!!! I still can't believe it and neither can she... we were sure she was carrying a girl. Her DH is over the moon emoticon He went out today and bought a bunch of onises with dump trucks on them emoticon He's in construction emoticon They tried for a long time for this baby so we are very grateful emoticon and they will make wonderful parents emoticon

IONA, congratulations on your daughter's graduation!!!!
Life is good, indeed!!!!

I completed my 4th week of the Challenge, and it's the final week for me for this Summer Challenge. I am off early Wednesday for a 3 week vacation to visit my family. My daughter and I are going back to Moscow. My parents' summer house has lots of apple trees and other fruits and vegetables growing. Since my corn growing is failing, I can't wait to help them with apple picking and veggie/berry eating.

Thank you, ladies, for being a great sport participating in the Challenge! Elizabeth, I appreciate your leadership skills and time invested into the Challenge!

Linda, your vacation sounds so wonderful! The state of happiness on vacations makes us not gain from even pounds of bacon. But most importantly, regardless of gaining or losing, you had an awesome camping trip. emoticon

I am getting ready for my trip in less than 2 weeks to visit my family. Until then, I am enjoying my summer job that allows me to spend more time with me and SP. The only question: how do I stay the same and not lose motivation when I come back from the vacation? I have tendencies to have post-vacation blues. I need to learn it from you, Linda, to come back energized, happy and ready to continue.

Hi Anna, the run was good thanks, fog lifted a little before the start. I was about 30 secs quicker than last week but not as well placed! 29th out of 71 runners. 5th lady - 35 ladies took part and second lady in my age group

(I was first last week!!) emoticon

Hello Team!

I am back from San Diego, and happy to say that I did not overeat on the trip, did a lot of walking at Sea World and running/playing at the Bay. Had fun without focusing on food. Another beach day today.

Iona, how was your run in the fog?

Linda, I agree, it's nice to get caught up here on the Team! I missed you two!

Elizabeth, congratulations to your DD and you, mom, for such a big honor! And you have so much work to do until the end of the school year.

As Linda, I can "weight" emoticon till our summer challenge. But no down time for me in exercising as I am finally re-committed. I also have to learn a lesson of the last few months how to maintain without gaining during stress and busy months at work. I was where I wanted to be last year but then with my new boss at work and my family health issues I hit the slippery slope.

My Spring semester ended earlier in May, and we already started Summer classes. What a joy to teach summer classes. It's stress-free, smaller class size, and we accomplish more. Why can't it be like this always?! And my department Chair is vacationing in Safari for 3 weeks that means I don't have to face my disorganized, super hyper and hectic boss on daily basis. emoticon

Enjoy the cooler weather!

So glad you are tracking again Anna and I know you are looking forward to school ending as well... I too have been totally enjoying spring this year. I TOTALLY know what you mean about needing work to slow-up....only 17 working days 'til summer vacation!!! I feel like I am not being half the leader I should be for you gals, but hey...life happens, and well, the internet just has to take second seat sometimes.

So, yes, DD13, Grace, ran & won for student body president for next school year....WOOHOO!!! Couldn't be more proud....but of course I am glad the campaigning is over. Now we have to get ready for the 7th/8th grade dance in two weeks. Thank goodness she has a cousin that has a closet full of dresses to borrow from! It's a 1/2 day of school & the dance is from 12-3, hosted by the 7th grade for the 8th grade grad's. Apparently it is 'something else' and can get a lilttle over the top for the age group (thanks to 'those' kind of parents that plan it, no less.) The biggest deal is the rest of us parents have to set-up the night before (wah!) 6pm to ???? They say sometimes they get done at midnight....this is a school/work night for the rest of us, mind you. Looks like DH will be taking over that job :/

My entire classroom is getting overhauled for next school year...all new computers/technology, plus they are completely remodeling the inside of my classroom, too. It's like 'Extreme Makeover' classroom edition...hahaha! Can't wait for the big reveal in August. Unfortunately, though, that means I have to completely move out of my classroom while they work over summer; and I am responsible for getting rid of all the equipment we will not be using. I already have a huge e-waste load to take this weekend and it's not even half of it...YIKES! So, needless-to-say I will be quite busy for the next 17 working days (last day is JUne 15)...and, yes, I am counting!!! The Summer Challenge WILL come, but I guess it will just have to start....when summer does! Thinking of you all. emoticon

Hello team!
I was so waiting for this ease up in my work schedule so I can jump back into my Sparkpeople routine. As much as I would like to stay away from the computer and live a real life (as we all mentioned here before) but this site is an inspiration to keep me going in the right direction. So I am back in full speed as I used to - logging in my exercise minutes, tracking my food and getting support and being supportive myself.

Hello ladies!
I hope you are enjoying a beautiful Spring weather!
Elizabeth, I know how busy it gets with work and a family. I don't have time for Sparkpeople every day (or for a few days on the row) either. Challenges do help but I am sure we are responsible enough to continue our exercising and calorie count even in between the challenges. I bet you are looking forward so much to the end of the school year!

Linda, it's so good to see you so active and being a great example of Sparkpeople.

I am off to plant some flowers and go to the gym while my DD is in Saturday school.
I wish I planted flowers when it was a perfect weather for that, and not so hot. But never got a moment for that. I am just so happy that my crazy winter/spring is almost over, and I can breathe again. But I spotted some gray hair in me as a result of the craziness. emoticon

Ok, gals....hate to tell you I am still beyond busy at work. I think my computer lab is getting a full-blown ("extreme") makeover for next school year (donation from a foundation that helps low-income schools) so we have had a lot of visitors around checkin' things out. Thus, not a lot of Sparking time on breaks. Had an AWESOME time at a wedding on Saturday...wore a dress & killer heels, and danced the night away! DD13 is also wrapping-up track season the next few weeks, so our Sundays are busy, too (even got a nice sunburn yesterday sitting out all-day at her meet!).

That being said, If anyone would like to step-in and start-off a few weeks of a Summer Challenge I would appreciate it because I am on overload at the moment. On the other hand, if everyone is ok hanging on a couple more weeks, then ok, too. Don't think for one second I am slacking off with my workouts or healthy eating. It's ALWAYS "GAME ON!!!"

Tell me about it...Spring Break went by WAY too fast. The visit with my sister was just as fast, but wonderful!!! Can't believe it was almost 2 YEARS since we've seen each other. Of course, we talk, text & facebook all the time, but nothing beats face-to-face. Unfortunately, during the last two years her husband has had to have several surgeries (joint things--shoulders, hips) and they've had to use all their vacation time for that. And, of course all of our "travel" money was tied-up in buying our house last year. They are on the verge of buying a new house, too , this year, so they probably won't be out this summer either. I think (no, I KNOW) we will have to make another trip during the summer (despite the heat). 2 years was way too long! Plus, my DH didn't get to go...had to stay home & run his business. So, he definitely wants to see them, too!

Anyhow, didn't mean to be so MIA the rest of this past week, but was just simply enjoying the "real" world, my kids, being home....and trying to figure out what the heck was up with this SoCal weather. Has felt more like winter than winter ever did. Had a long-sleeve shirt & a sweatshirt on the last 2 days...and I don't get cold easily. (Funny that it was 95 driving through Arizona last Monday, and then to come home to this...huh!?!)

Also, just focusing on my workouts & eating well after the Easter holiday...nothing disastrous, but, like anything, always room to improve! I am going gluten-free. Did it awhile ago & forgot how much better I feel. Never been diagnosed with anything that "requires" me to '86' gluten, but considering I feel like I deflate all-around by about 3" when I take it out of my diet, I think I am on to something that really works for me & how I feel (which is my main focus these days). In addition, I am hitting some awesome PR's with my weightlifting: hit 170 for my deadlifts, 175 for box squats, and bench pressed 100!!! I have found a new love and it's name is WEIGHT TRAINING. It makes me feel kick-a$$, and that translates into a confidence I have never felt before. And, boy, oh boy, isn't confidence sexy!?! And, no, it does not make you bulky, people.....GO ME!!!

Anyhow, aren't I chatty for a Saturday night...must be the wine! emoticon ...plus, my TV is "out" so it's been an adjustment...and I don't even watch it that much. But, take it away completely and I feel like I am cut-off from the world. Hopefully, we will have it fixed & back by Wednesday!

I know I promised a Summer Challenge to begin...if I don't post tomorrow (I just may be enjoying my one final day of Spring Break to its fullest!) then sit tight & I will post by Monday. I think the weather will be taking a turn for the better/warmer, too, so find motivation in that....beach season will soon be upon us! All I know is that I have 42 working days to summer vacation and.....I need a pedicure, STAT!!!

Can't believe spring break is almost over. We had 2 of our grandkids for a few days... B10 & G8. Had lots of fun. Easter was lovely. I enjoyed a few hollow chocolate eggs and since we didn't host it NO leftovers emoticon We got slammed with the storm yesterday but our freggie garden is busting out all over emoticon Today was emoticon emoticon
